filthycasual@filthycasualThe cave is tiresome and too focused on facebook promotion. I dislike having to borrow a bird or use the pigs. Having only 3 bird in a team is limiting enough–making it just two makes for a boring game.
filthycasual@filthycasualHere’s a strategy to eliminate three birds with one attack
1. Use Wizard. He’s usually picked off first when the opponent moves
2. Save the rage chili
3. do some damage to the opponent’s birds, but don’t KO
3. Allow your other birds to get KO’d
4. When Chuck comes back, drop the pepperIt’s a little risky having to wait for Chuck while your opponent gets in hits, but I find that this is a pretty normal sequence of events when using Wizard anyway (chuck gets pecked off – – hurrrr). So saving the pepper is the only modification to capture the daily objective.
Works well with vengeful banner, as long as the opponent’s birds don’t get taken out by it.
I wouldn’t use it against rogues because your banner will take so much damage it will be even more risky. Also don’t use it against the banner reducing rage abilities even further.
filthycasual@filthycasual@larry it’s not fighting fire with fire – it’s fighting cheating with cheating.
What enjoyment would this community gain by cheating the system?
We might win more – would you enjoy that?
Would it feel good to be on top but without the moral high ground?
Are we upset that people are cheating or upset that we’re losing?
If we’re upset that people are cheating, we’re a sad bunch if we turn around and do the same. If we’re just upset that we’re losing, well, I guess do what you want.
Also, keep in mind that you don’t just cheat the cheaters. Remember that leaderboards are not shared – the other people on your leaderboard don’t necessarily have the same lineup you do. There could be some folks out there who are competing with you on their board and you don’t even know it. They had a completely clean board with no one cheating, and now you start. Sucks to be them, I guess. Maybe they should’ve cheated too?
Not the course I would embrace.
filthycasual@filthycasual@burbman that’s very interesting. I would love to know what happens when you complete the different objectives on both devices. I can’t think of any way to do this without being unkind to other players who might have you on their leaderboards.
filthycasual@filthycasualwelp.
iOS device advanced to gold league (still not even playing with the android).
I haven’t encountered any hackers, so that’s nice. maybe it’s because I’m in the low level league.
I’m still clearing all the objectives pretty easily with level 6 birds as long as I don’t choose to go in against an opponent with higher level account and mastery 6 birds with matched sets. The difference a matched set makes is pretty huge.
Won’t be advancing this go-around though. There are some others in the league who are grinding out extra medals to stay on top. More power to them.
The biggest determiner for winning is having a bunch of matched set items (and high level mastery). Now that my android is max level with only mastery 7 birds and a few (much lower level) matched sets, there’s no way I can compete.
However, having competed with the lower level device has at least reinforced that it’s not something I’d truly enjoy anyway. The system is so binary – – there’s really not that much interesting strategy involved. But I’m also not a huge competitive gamer, so YMMV. I just hope they develop more interesting solo content. I’m bored to death with the caves (especially as a non-FB player) so I’m just grinding a few hundred snoutlings and buying mastery upgrades at the moment, but my days with the game may be numbered.
filthycasual@filthycasualust curious, if you have ABE on two devices, why not link them together on FB?
@inimical What it comes down to is just convenience.Actually the original reason I started playing on the second device was to have one very lonely “friend” for my original play experience. I incorrectly thought that I could friend the accounts through rovio accounts instead of creating FB accounts.
The bottom line is I don’t have a FB account. I’ve never wanted one. Thus far none of the content in ABE has been so compelling that I have considered it worth the trouble.
I’m also a little stubborn. I don’t really want anyone forcing me into facebook.
However, since I have not been interested enough to keep pushing that device to higher levels it would not serve any purpose for my original account to use the birds. I would get much greater benefit by friending up some of you who have worked much harder at creating solid accounts than linking my two devices, if I were to create the FB account.
filthycasual@filthycasualWelp…
My two devices both got the reset, so I just collected presents instead of fighting event battles. My iOS device took 4th place and my Android took 6th or 7th without a single medal from battles!
Two stars for each, both rolled 6kall+blues on the first roll. For a non-FB player, that’s about as good as I could have asked for.
I do wish the event would have continued—I liked collecting the presents!
filthycasual@filthycasualStill constantly resetting. It’s no big deal. The issue is there and it’s Christmas–I wouldn’t hold out on a fix this week at all.
I hope the “restitution” everyone mentions is awesome, but who can really guess?
It’s not the end of the world either way.
filthycasual@filthycasualintermittently on my android device.
filthycasual@filthycasualupdate day 3(?) of week 2
My level 16 device is still stomping on everything and at this point I’m grinding snoutlings from the arena in order to continue to upgrade mastery without leveling up. I think the interest is to see how far this will travel, but it clearly demonstrates how off-center the arena is.
I did get my first unobtainable objective today (win 5 battles with a class I don’t own). So there is that, but I’m still first place with a 6k lead over #2. Don’t know if #2 has beaten his daily objectives yet.
Thing is, I don’t want the arena to get more balanced. I want more single player content, but I suppose I have no right to demand it since most people would rather something like this (if it were more balanced, skill based, and less buggy I suppose this would be wildly popular)
I much more enjoy my level 37 device, but it can’t compete for a second in the arena against matched sets around that level. I can eek out a win if I win the coin flip. Otherwise no chance.
It’s a bummer of a moment for epic, really. The arena is incredibly imbalanced, constantly crashing (with forced losses), offers unobtainable objectives, and may(?) be overrun with hackers. Meanwhile the Christmas event is constantly resetting and the servers are completely inaccessible sporadically throughout the day (I’m still hanging on the loading account screen intermittently).
A moment is just a moment, though. There’s always next year ;)
filthycasual@filthycasual@rassell1234 to finish @DragonofHeart ‘s thought.
You have to lose, then pay to play again.
Accomplish three objectives
lose (intentionally if you must)
pay up
repeat
…
profit?
filthycasual@filthycasualfailed to login, two devices.
filthycasual@filthycasualgot my first reset on the ios device. none on andy.
filthycasual@filthycasualThe events are all competitive as well. If the pseudo pvp of the arena draws in the competitive player set, it may mean more difficulty getting those event rewards. I don’t want to compete with anyone – I play games to relax from the ultra competitive real world.
I just want to enjoy the arpg elements of the game. :(
filthycasual@filthycasualhave had no resets of any kind, android or ios.
filthycasual@filthycasual@dr_ishmael well, obviously it’s all relative to the field.
My low level device is only level 17 (mastery 4-5). Perhaps this rank is more favorable with this level mastery? I also have a matched level 17 dragonbreath set, which does quite well in the field.
It’s also possible I’ve just had (two) easy brackets on the lvl17 device.
My level 37 device struggles to scratch out any wins with mastery 5,6, and 7. I have a few matched sets, but nothing compared to the opposition. Those that are matched are also from earlier levels, so not as strong.
I dislike the pvp system entirely, but this has been my experience thus far.
filthycasual@filthycasual@cosmo2503 it’s actually much easier to finish at top of league with lower level. My higher level device didn’t stand a chance because it wasn’t top mastery upgrades and lacked matched set items. My level 17 device destroyed the competition because it has better upgrades than the competitors in the board. Because you are matched with other players around same level.
filthycasual@filthycasualweek 1 finish update
Android device (lvl 37) couldn’t cut the mustard. My birds are mastery 5,6, or 7 and I have a few matched sets (although none of them are level 37). I could barely win a few of the matches on that device at all since every opponent has matched sets and better mastery. Finished below 3rd, did not advance. Got a matched freezing banner set, made no difference.
iOS device (level 17) finished second without playing on two of the days. My device is overpowered against all the opponents because I have level 5 and 6 mastery birds and a few set matches. This event enables the device to continue to avoid leveling up while buying mastery upgrades with the snoutlings.
Thing is – since the introduction of mastery I’ve been thinking that there is a disincentive to level up. The events, castle, caves match the level of your birds, so leveling up doesn’t give any advantage at all. The better advantage comes from mastery. All I’ve done on my iOS device is play enough to unlock chronicles, then stopped. I’ve participated (marginally) in the events, which is why it has the mastery levels, but I don’t run the caves and haven’t farmed any snoutlings or mastery. Better to just sit, I guess.
I still disdain the arena. I think the side-effect of a p2w pvp arena is that it’s drawn in lots of players who will “compete” in the rest of the game. The events are also “pvp” in that there is a leader board. I really enjoyed the game, but it looks like the future content is just “competition” in some kind of ranked event with other players who are obviously “better” than me. I just wanted to plod along and enjoy game progress, but there may be no future updates to progress through. Oh well. It was a pretty fun ride. I’ll enjoy it while I still get some fun out of it :).
filthycasual@filthycasualHow will the buffs benefit you if your birds are knocked out on the first turn when losing the flip?
My experience has been that when I lose the toss the opponent focuses all attacks on my lowest hp bird. Thus, I lose white blue or yellow every time. If the opponent happens to be running AoE, there is a good chance a second bird will be close to death as well.
I’m not sure how having a buff would offset this….Maybe a samurai shield to keep the one bird alive, making sam an auto-include for every arena battle?
Won’t this make non buff birds severely weaker in arena?
How would the single-target buffs choose targets? Randomly?
filthycasual@filthycasualday 2 results.
iOS device has not lost a battle. Checked off the three daily quests…played 5 or 6 more before deciding the trophies from the wheel weren’t worth the time.
Android device won the first two battles (won the coin flip) and lost the second two (lost the coin flip). The field of competition is *so much* easier on my iOS device. The android’s competitors are much higher level, usually wearing matched sets.
I believe the field may be selected based on your own birds. I thought it might be nerfing my opponents because of my level, but they don’t have matched sets either so I think it’s just who they are.
Of course, I might’ve just gotten an easy bracket on the ios.
filthycasual@filthycasualI have the infinite loading icon on my android as well.
Also, with my iOS device I have had a much easier time winning battles. I don’t know if this is because of the randomly chosen field I am playing against or because my device is level 17 with 5 or 6 mastery birds.
I’m sure tons of people will play it. I have no idea how profitable it is, but it will probably generate more whales than the rest of the game did because people like spending money to be competitive.
My point is that the game wasn’t designed well for pvp which makes it an ill fit. PVP phone games probably generate more money than PvE games, but I’m not that familiar with the industry. I wouldn’t have ever played the game if I thought the point would be PVP, but I recognize that there’s a big market for that. I just feel the implementation is still sorely lacking, and the development path of the game thus far has not been compatible with a PVP focus.
I hope I can ignore the PVP anyway, but I have my doubts.
ps how do I get a new opponent? when I back out of the battle and return I still have the same opponent.
filthycasual@filthycasualThere are three huge issues with this “event” (which I am sure is a long term feature).
First, the game is not balanced for birds vs birds. Every aspect of game design up until this point has balanced birds vs pigs, with progression of pig strength to offer variety and challenge when using various combinations of birds. This update pits birds against each other, which they have not been even marginally balanced to do. Some of the rage abilities appear to have been nerfed for the arena, but some of the birds just don’t have enough hp to go toe to toe with other birds.
Second, the coin flip is the most deterministic factor in the whole affair. Since this is not real time pvp, the coin flip is just plain stupid. There is no reason the active player should not go first 100% of the time. This leads me to believe that either 1)the arena was originally designed to be live pvp but had to be retrofitted by pitting a player against another player’s robo-birds or 2)there will eventually be live pvp. If 1), there should be no coin flip – player should go first. If 2), the coin flip is still a ruinous design choice that takes 99% of the “skill” out of the battle.
Third, this update destroys any sense of free to play the game had. As with most pvp games, any pay features which offer genuine advantage over other players must be considered very carefully and delicately in order to maintain the perception of “skill” within the game. Since ABE was PVE this was not that big a deal. Thus, offering so many LC upgrades was no real skin off of the free player’s back. The push toward facebook was more tiresome for the non-FB player since one couldn’t enjoy the benefits of free LCs, free FE, and birds to borrow. But at the end of the day, the free, non-FB player could enjoy his ABE experience in his own little corner of the world without worrying too much about what other people may be doing. Now he is thrust into an arena with people who spent LCs, may have used the set item exploit, or may have even used an emulator to farm mastery (and snoutlings) like some of those on this forum to get a *huge* advantage over him.
I don’t care if that’s how you like to play the game. I just don’t want to be forced to play against you. My concern is that the new, fresh content of the game may continue to revolve around this new PVP “feature” and possibly even future upgrades to the single player experience will be dependent upon performance in this incredibly imbalanced system.
I am very sad about this update. I typically seek out non-pvp games and enjoyed ABE. However, my objection is not just that this is now a pvp game. My objection is that this pvp system is being poorly cobbled onto a game implementation that simply isn’t designed to support it.
ugh.
oh, and just to note my experience….on my android I won 5 battles (two of which going second, by the skin of my teeth) and lost 3 (went second). On my iOS device I lost all three (device is level 17 with all classes mastery 5 or 6, the other player’s birds just KOd me every turn).
I got a set totem item on both devices on the first day.
filthycasual@filthycasualwhat are the 5 classes you don’t have?
Do you have paladin?
Paladin is my most used class. Best LCs spent so far.
filthycasual@filthycasualwhat about the golden chili?
I know many of you already had it, but I never have. It seems like people use it a lot for the mastery events.
Currently I don’t have:
thunderbird – I don’t have the gates unlocked either, no facebook
marksmen – same as above
skulkersOn my initial playthrough I thought the golden chili seemed like cheating. I was drawn to sea dog more than skulkers (skulkers lacked any appeal at all), and then I’ve been mostly just spending the LCs every week on golden pig rolls.
So I kind of decided to get the chili, but now I’m on the fence about maybe one of the classes instead.
So my question is: do any of these upgrades actually make a significant difference in play?
I find that most of the time I don’t use a bunch of the classes. I don’t want to add another sit on the shelf class. The golden chili seems like it could be a pretty big deal – at least it can potentially affect every battle.
Honestly, I rarely use sea dog or priestess so on my second device I haven’t bothered with either. That device has 330 LCs (could be 430 if I created an account and logged into an android device).
filthycasual@filthycasual@MadMike Everyone should favor android ;)
