    The spells should all be the same level as your highest leveled bird. The order in which you throw them should not matter. We’ll look into this. Thanks!

    You are exactly right about how the card drawing works. Thank you for helping other people out! Much appreciated.

    @james-simon

    There is some bug that causes the reward to not be given out sometimes. It’s a very high-priority one to get solved. Luckily, in most cases the reward seems to just get delayed. Still, it obviously needs to be fixed asap.

    @kedik22

    Thanks for the list. Regarding your questions, I take it you are not satisfied with the experience. I’m sorry for this. We’ll do our best to continuously improving the arena. I’ll give you some of my reflections looking at the list though.

    – It’s not good that so few people are trying. We should try to implement something to prioritize more active players in the leaderboard matchmaking to get it more interesting and competetive.

    – It makes me sad to see that you have three cheaters in your list.

    – It makes me happy to see that these three cheaters for “some reason” :) don’t have competitive results any more, so that you can have a fair competition against John. At least I did something right.

    All in all, things are at least moving in the right direction. No doubt, we still have work to do.

    Regarding your birds leveling down from 9 to 8, that is really bad. I’m so sorry for this. Please contact me through PM if you want me to take a look at it (I need your facebook id in that case). You could also open up a CS ticket. Have anyone else experienced this?

    If it would show “Red, Red, Yellow”, then something would indeed be fishy. I can’t think of a scenario when this would happen. If it shows “Red, Yellow, Red” though (even on the starting screen), nothing is necessarily wrong.

    (1) You throw Red, draw another card. Destruction happens and you get Red as extra card from the destructometer, and it gets put on top of the drawpile. (2) Throw yellow, draw Red, then (3) throw Red again.

    The technical details:

    Remember, when you get an extra card, that card is put in a random position in your draw pile. It might very well be put on the top of the draw pile. I think it’d be a 20% chance after the first throw, granted you brought no spells, since there are four cards left in the draw pile (so five possible positions for the new card).

    Interesting. Please contact me through pm and let’s get it sorted out.

    Higher level birds fill the destructometer faster. This multiplier is not as significant as the multiplier for score, but it helps for sure. You get destructometer fill from destruction (not from score).

    I’m very happy for the mostly-positive reactions on the update. Thanks a lot for the inspiring feedback.

    Regarding the new card tiers. We decided not to release all elder tiers at once, but rather release them every now and then.

    Have a nice weekend and keep flinging!

    “Today’s arena- opponents still getting duplicate cards. >:-(“

    The top corner cards actually just show the order in which the opponent did throw their birds. It does not reflect the opponent’s current hand (despite the undeniable fact that it looks like that). If they threw a bird, filled the destructometer, got the same bird back, and threw it again (which is very common), it will look like the opponent has two similar cards in hand.

    So, it’s not that they are cheating. It’s rather a presentation problem.

    We are aware that this is really confusing for the players who know that you can never have two similar cards at the same time. Really sorry for that. We are discussing different solutions.

    Our designer got some inspiration and started looking on this one right away. As visible in the image, the small pig is indeed hard to rock. We’ll take care of this asap, tweaking the torque so that they are roughly equally hard to get rolling.

    @smwforever45
    That’s a really good point. Most likely it’s because the small pigs’ mass is so much lower than the larger ones, yet the torque they generate to stay upright is the same, making the small ones much less likely to roll. I will take a look at this and see if we can tweak it a little for a future update. Thanks a lot for the feedback.

    Thanks a lot for this thread. It’s good and very visual feedback on some of the frustrating situations (and in some cases, bugs) that sometimes appear in the game. I really appreciate the positive attitude, despite the frustration.

    @david-martin

    I’m convinced that the actual pig object, in terms of how it interacts with other objects in the game, is not actually defined as having a round shape. The “skin” is round to give that appearance to the player, but it’s clear from the way these things refuse to roll sometimes that they’re some sort of a polygon closely resembling a circle. (Except for the micropigs. They’re probably just square.)

    I can shed some light on this one. The pig colliders are perfectly circular (except the boss ones obviously). What makes them able to not roll over is that they actually do try to balance. As long as they are somewhat upright already (up to 10 degrees, before giving up), they actively apply torque upon themselves to stay upright. In most cases this is good. Having pigs rolling around everywhere would look silly (in early development this was the case). In one of the screenshots the auto balancing makes the pig balance on a ledge that just barely touches. The pig’s friction combined with the auto balance torque makes it stay upright. I think it’s an edge case (no pun intended..) but I admit it doesn’t look good! Sorry for that one. :)

    Regarding the cheats, the situation is roughly the same as before. At this point we can’t identify a player you report through a nickname (Facebook name nor anonymous Red#XXXX name). It’s a technical limitation I hope we can work out asap. We have filters that take care of some of the cheats. There will be some better ones in the next update. It’s true that we haven’t focused enough on it. The reason is just resources. We’ve had lots of work with the WWF campaign (which I’m happy we did by the way) and the Daily Challenges. There are now more discussions than before about cheats and quality in general in the office, so hopefully there will be some improvements in these areas in the coming months.

    @kedik22

    1) What is specifically being done by Rovio with this Carl individual, and many like him.
    At this point nothing is being done to target individual cheaters. Unfortunately. All efforts done are on a broader level with filters.

    2) What are Rovio´s plans in the future regarding cheaters and hacks.
    We’ll continue to improve the cheat-prevention with the resources we have available for it, a little in every patch. We’ll also try to open up a way we can look at individual cases. Today we cannot do this.

    3) What is the explanation behind the “randomness” of facing a cheater more than 8 weeks in a row in the Arena?
    Arena leaderboard matchmaking is primarily based on bird levels and secondarily on your current league number. If you have the exact same bird levels as another player, and you are in the top 1% of players, it’s not unlikely that you get matched against him/her again. This is my gut-feeling reply on the topic, I haven’t made a technical test to prove this. Is eight(8) weeks in a row the actual number (no single week ever without that player), or is it more like “he seems to show up much more than what seems reasonable”? Both cases are obviously equally frustrating from the player’s perspective, but the reason I ask is if there is a bug involved here, it’d be good to know exactly what happens.

    “What is interesting is that @bankler last response to anything in this forum was 3 weeks ago. There has been a number of posts asking for his response and assistance.”

    I’m still reading the forum. Lately there has not been any clear and specific questions that I can give any input too, except for some that have already been answered (in what ways we can prevent cheating and so on), and in those cases I hope the forum veterans here can help out repeating what I’ve communicated before and/or reference my earlier posts. If I’m mistaken, please point me in there direction of these questions, and I’d be happy to help out. I might just have missed them.

    There are always post with rants about how bad some things are. Unfortunately I cannot head into these discussions. I’m here to help, answer technical questions, and gather your feedback and forward it. I appreciate everyone’s input, positive or negative, and I often understand and agree with your criticism, but I won’t go into debate. There are lots of decisions taken that are way beyond my control.

    The WWF level is a “one-off” event. It’s only one level, and when you have played it, it’s supposed to disappear and be replaced with the ordinary daily challenge instead.

    Rovio_Bankler
    @bankler

    Do you no longer see the WWF gem bundle in the shop?

    Rovio_Bankler
    @bankler

    @shoemacher There is no difference in strength between a level 1 bird and a level 8 bird. The only things that change when birds level up are score multipliers and destructometer multipliers. There are some random physics glitches happening sometimes, and they can indeed be frustrating, but they have nothing to do with the bird level.

    Rovio_Bankler
    @bankler

    @aeshna No, we do not ignore your feedback. The levels will be adjusted. We intentionally put really challenging levels in there, but when the most dedicated Nest players cannot complete a level, it is too hard. As it requires a client update to change a level, it will take some time before the changes are in the game.

    Thanks for the reports. I’ll try to put some effort into improving the filter this week. I’m sorry you’re getting matched up against him over and over. It sucks.

    @dwhite40704 Do you get a consistent crash each time you complete the daily challenge? That’s really bad. I haven’t gotten any other reports of this yet. Is anyone else getting this crash? Are you playing on Android or iOS? Please contact me through PM if you want. If you can share your Facebook email (granted you’re using Facebook), I’d be more than happy to compensate you for the lost gems. Sorry for the inconvenience.

    @bankler

    @mvnla2 Thanks for the report. I don’t have a clear answer on exactly what happened. I will try to push for making an effort to bring some improvements to this. Your report is useful for tracking down any bugs that might still occur. I appreciate it.

    Generally, the score for a room (complete destruction) is calculated like this: 100k * BirdLevel, plus any extra score from strike or birdie (and headpops). So destroying every single block, pig and everything else in a room with one single level 6 bird should give 625,000 points (600k from destruction and 25k for the strike). There might be small deviances from this because of different reasons (causing approx +/- 10k points)***.

    Q: So how did the opponent clear the 4th room without increasing their score?
    A: There is no way of telling if your opponent cleared a room. Each time you throw a bird, your opponent throws a bird. You are synchronized in terms of throws, not rooms.

    Q: Why did the destruct meter increase 0.2 when there was no increase in score?
    A: Good question. Honestly I have no idea how this would happen.

    *** (Technical detail) The deviance comes from that the score multiplier a bird gives is not updated until after it has impacted. This means that for the very first block a bird destroys, the multiplier from the previous bird might still be active (or even be 1.0 in the case of the absolute first bird thrown). Scoring a strike in the first room (which had 38 blocks and pigs) with a level 3 bird actually gave me 319,672 instead of 325,00. It doesn’t affect the end score that much I guess, but I’ll try to get around to fixing this at some point.
