WeeNaoise@weenaoise@franciscrawford – you posted on this when the competition was not yet three hours old to say that you had had two runs over 150 and a few over 100. You would only have had six free runs at that point – and my experience is that most runs are under 100. How many gems are you using for this competition? And have you asked yourself just how many of the prize accessories you are going to buy with your tokens, how many tokens you will need for them and how much value you are getting for your gems? Personally, I have bought all I want with the exception of two accessories, each priced at 900 tokens. I have 700 tokens sitting in the bank right now, so I only need 1100 more. I assume I can do that just on daily totals alone without needing the tokens for high placings and I’ll still have tokens left over.
WeeNaoise@weenaoiseI have tried various TFs – even those that can knock out a mortar tower with a single hit in regular play are taking multiple shots in the competition mode.
WeeNaoise@weenaoiseI am struggling to believe in this competition. Most contests, I come first or second every day with little expenditure in gems. But this one seems to be following the same pattern as one previous one (the one with the gold optimus prime IIRC) where regardless of the time of day you start, there are opponents called Drew, Igor, Sergio and various others whose scoring patterns defy all logic and are able to sweep ahead at the end with improbable scoring feats, leaving me in the 4-6 category. Not that I care greatly since almost everything in this contest is purchasable with gems anyway – no point spending gems to avoid spending gems!
WeeNaoise@weenaoiseI was also playing at the end – finished in second place and got 500 tokens. No problem (apart from the two runs in a row with only 36 points available that cost me first place Grrr).
WeeNaoise@weenaoiseAlso, does anyone know whether having two accessories offering, say, +10% damage would add up to +20% damage, or does one just duplicate the other?
WeeNaoise@weenaoiseI can’t see myself losing sleep over this one.
WeeNaoise@weenaoise@sukerman13 – yes, I was having a little bit of fun, but only in the most gentle way. I certainly didn’t mean to cause any upset, but I still think you are incorrect that the odds in the lab for each outcome are equal.
WeeNaoise@weenaoiseIf you don’t mind my saying so, you illustrate very well the success of Rovio’s current format. You see these limited edition transformers as must have and on other threads, people report spending huge amounts of gems to achieve them. I am imagining that new players would move heaven and earth to get the new transformers. But giving people second (and third and fourth…) chances to get them if they miss out first time would just devalue the currency. No need to spend gems or participate in this contest because there will be another chance in a few weeks.
WeeNaoise@weenaoise@optimuspig – the good news is that the probability of that happening is only 2.7%. Therefore your experience, just like mine and TriPolar’s, is a statistical outlier and is balanced by Francis Crawford and Sukerman’s never ending run of success on the old lot machine.
When I was at school, there were a couple of people in my year who swore blind that they never lost on slot machines – except when anyone was watching lol.
WeeNaoise@weenaoiseI presume clip size refers to a TF that shoots – say, five bullets in a single shot – and increasing the clip size by 20% would mean firing six bullets in that single shot.
WeeNaoise@weenaoiseMany things in life are available for a limited time or for a limited quantity. If you didn’t get them at the time, you miss out. That’s just the way it is.
I saw a lovely antique carpet in Marrakech. I wished I had bought it, but I didn’t. I saw some lovely ikat scarves in Tashkent. I wish I had bought them, but I didn’t.
There are limited edition accessories on many games – special Christmas hats and Easter eggs and stuff; if people don;t get them at the time, they will never have them. Sometimes it isn’t even limited edition stuff that gets discontinued – remember monocles for grimlocks? I wish I’d got them when I still could, but I didn’t. Too bad.
But I would certainly object if I had bought or earned limited edition, exclusive things and then they were made generally available at a later date.
WeeNaoise@weenaoiseAnd I am telling you that the probabilities were altered a few updates ago to make it very rare to win anything other than coins on the high yield spins. Numbers are my thing and I can tell that these probabilities are not equal even by feel because they are so far from it.
WeeNaoise@weenaoiseBut that’s not right. The probabilities of each of the outcomes is not equal – the odds are massively stacked in favour of coins. If you don’t believe me, keep records and run the maths to see how unlikely the outcomes would be if there were equal probability of each outcome.
By way of example, the odds of blowing all three spins and getting coins three times is 1/10 (0.6 x 0.5 x 0.333). The odds of doing that three times running would be 1/1000. Yet this seems to happen to me often. In fact, I can’t remember the last time I got gems on the 3 SRs – poor even on the SR, AC and BP spins.
WeeNaoise@weenaoiseIs it just me or does anyone else think that Windblade looks like a gay clone from the front – with a bushy moustache and a police style cap with a big metal badge on it?
WeeNaoise@weenaoiseAgreed – but I don’t see that coming back any time soon. I guess they paid out a lot of gems in that event and gems are what they charge cash money for.
WeeNaoise@weenaoiseThere is no point saving the tokens, but not much point in spending them either once you have bought what you want. The carry over was a one off because the token centre closed early by mistake. It won’t happen again. But then again, once you have bought the new TF and any attack related accessories, there’s not much value in anything else – some defensive or vehicular related accessories that won’t change the outcome of any runs (since you don’t die or run out of vehicle time anyway) or coins to add to the many millions we already have. The only purpose of the coins in the rewards is to give people something to spend the spare 970 tokens on at the end of the challenge on that aren’t quite enough to buy a major item – so they don;t feel the effort of earning the spare tokens was entirely wasted.
WeeNaoise@weenaoiseI suspect that the 5%, 10% and 20% are not mathematical certainties but just represent rough hierarchy of magnitude. Since we want to be as destructive as possible then we should be going for 10% explosive force rather than 20% defence – unless we are regularly dying.
WeeNaoise@weenaoiseI believe they are human on this one. I thought the opponents for Shockwave were probably not.
WeeNaoise@weenaoiseOne thing with every run scoring similar results is that you get some insight into how people use gems. Yesterday someone used two lots go gems (i.e. 10+20) straight away, zoomed up the leaderboard and then finished well down after failing to run the full set of regular missions. Today there are two players who used gems straight away – one used two lots and one used one.
WeeNaoise@weenaoiseJust had a soft update. Silver had gone down to 4000 tokens – but the leaderboard glitch is still there.
WeeNaoise@weenaoise@ef5ox – it was only ever open for another three days, but I agree that using 00.00 GMT is confusing as that could be interpreted as the beginning of the day (which is the reality) or the end of the day. But it is now 28 February in half the world.
In any case, this encore event was just a little bonus. The real event had already finished and everyone should have been reconciled to only having what they had bought at the end of that event. If you got enough tokens for a little something extra thus time, it’s just an unexpected windfall. Most of the stuff can be got for gems anyway.
WeeNaoise@weenaoiseThe coins and gold blocks are a red herring. Most of us have more coins than we’ll ever know what to do with. But for me – and I imagine for others – the joy is in making things blow up, collapse or implode. When they mess with that – that’s what grates.
WeeNaoise@weenaoise@droversdog
+1
WeeNaoise@weenaoiseI think maybe some people are seeing their competition prizes as “bonus tokens”.
Datgamerguy seems to have been using thousands of gems – not least evidenced by getting EOP to Level 15 almost immediately.
WeeNaoise@weenaoiseIf you didn’t get to 550 tokens every day then you don’t have EOP, the medallion and 850 tokens left over. And if you do, you will have spent truckloads more gems than you claim. Serious truckloads – not just a few. I have spent 70 gems a day, sometimes 130, and not even got close to the figures you are claiming. I also question how on earth you got to 485 missiles after only 6 hours of the competition when I have only got to 223 after nearly 9 hours.
