    I’m guessing they ended it early because they’re tired of getting support tickets, didn’t feel like dealing with it during the holidays (remember Europeans take loooong vacations). They’ll get some angry emails from those who got hosed, but that’s probably a much smaller number.

    Waiting to see what “compensation” is, if any… and/or if you have to prove that you spent money to get said compensation.

    Me too, third time. Who started the rumor that it was fixed?

    Why let the challenge continue? The only stamina I’ve spent since I got screwed the first time is what I earned thru spins. But some people are presumably using real money and getting burned.

    Only solution I see is have every leaderboard host only 3 players. Everyone gets the 6000 spin and they fight for a few snoutlings. Otherwise Rovio is just saying “oh well, sorry, keep playing and keep spending suckers”.

    Crap. I just read this thread, went to check, and I went from first place in my board to zero. I actually went in to take a screenshot to send to Rovio in case this happened. 6000 mastery… they picked a bad challenge for this bug. (iOS 7/ipad4)

    I haven’t been playing nearly as much as before, just aother reason to stop playing.

    It won’t let me into the arena. I have 3 banners, not x-d out, but when I click the “battle” button I hear a click and it does nothing. Anyone else having this issue? I need less than 100 points to get back to two stars.

    I recommend against bard, unless you like using lots of potions. Damage is good, stun looks attractive, but matilde’s job is healing and bard just doesn’t provide enough. I wish I could have my LC back for bard — I never use it.

    I’d go with skulkers, if for no other reason that — alongside druid — it really helps with ninja levels.

    Was hoping it would be more than 1,500 mastery. That’s 3 turns at the dojo. Agree this is lame, as is only 600 snoutlings for first place. Would be nice to have another 6,000 mastery, or some other sweet prize (lucky coins, epic item, etc), that makes the events worth competing for. As it is, it’s nothing more than essentially just a distraction.

    Don’t take chain attacks into the 7-stamina fight. I had capt’n, rainbird (with chain attack), and spies. One of pirates throws out a 200% counter buff which can’t be dispelled. I failed the level.

    I didn’t play this challenge the first time around, so maybe this is already known but thought I’d throw it out so no one wastes 7 stamina.

    The boss is actually easier than some of the other levels in this cave, IMO. I recommend not using any potions until you have at least 3 decoy bombs on the screen. Otherwise just restart. If you get 2 or more bowmen attacking you at once, followed by the boss attack, it’s game over unless you use a lot of potions. Once you have 3 bombs, it’s pretty manageable with a few pots and Matilda’s chili.

    Also, make sure you don’t use any weapons with chain attack, since those will knock out the bombs and make your life more difficult.

    I used samurai, Druid, and pigiana. Knight is prob better, but mine was only lvl 5 vs samurai lvl 7. I think druid is arguably better than princess because you’re healing a lot, and druid’s thorns allows you to damage the bowmen over several rounds while still healing.

    FWIW, I’m having a much harder time with cave 12 than 11.

    I’m an adult, and if I was playing the game just for myself I wouldn’t have an issue with Facebook. My gripe with it that it puts younger players at a big disadvantage. My kids are 7 and 8. They aren’t allowed to have facebook accounts yet, and not for several more years at least. They’ve bought (via my money) hundreds of dollars of Angry Birds paraphanalia — telepods, pajamas, hats, bedspreads, lunchboxes, plushies, even some gift cards for IAPs so they could get golden chili (my first IAP ever). They’ve played every AB game. Yet Rovio goes out of their way to ignore them by making the game so facebook-heavy.

    My biggest irritation is the timer on the pig allies. 12 hours is excessive. It’s basically limiting to advancing the game once per day once you get to the caves, since pigiana is the only pig ally to have enough HP to survive them. Facebook already allows many advantages — essence, pig spins, allies, more lucky coins, friendship gates, etc. There’s no need to put such an excessive timer on… kids having fun.

    The freemium model, unfortunately, isn’t going anywhere. Facebook has helped spread the game and people using real money to buy stuff. I get it. But essentially flipping the bird (as it were) to your core audience has soured me to Rovio. My kids are playing AB Transformers now but I’ve told them we’re not buying any telepods for the holidays and no more IAPs. They have so many things on their list and my opinion is that money is better spent elsewhere.

    I finally finished cave 11. I think my problem is that the 2nd level is actually one of the hardest and I gave up for a while. The master ninja on the final wave knocks out the shields, with bowmen and the shogun then massacring everyone in short order.

    I ended up buying a dojo ally to beat that level, as well as the 10-wave battle that also had a master-ninja/shogun/bowmen wave. The rest of the levels using pigiana weren’t too bad.

    Also, you’ll only ever have 1 craft able item of each type. If you have a blueprint for a weapon that has critical strike, for example, and you get another blueprint for a critical strike weapon, only the newer item will be craftable.

    I agree burning veggie cakes are waste. Having to buy veggie cakes cuts into snoutlings needed for healing juices/fruitcakes. When they nerf SRC like they have all of the other farming spots, snoutlings will take longer to build and burning cakes will be a pita to craft if you need to.

    Moreover, 50% will usually be enough in a bind, and if you’re spamming chilis you have to use two cakes to get the meter from zero to full anyway.

    I can’t get past the final wave of level 2. It has a master ninja who usually knocks out samurai’s shields, and the shogun attacks 3 turns in a row instead of buffing. Even with highest level pig juice and fruit cake I can’t fully heal and someone goes down in the 2nd or 3rd round. I’ve burned a bunch of potions already. Plus with samurai shielding and matilde healing each round, I’m only attacking with pigiana… slow going.

    I’m thinking I’m going to have to spend the gold in the dojo to get samurai, rainbird, and matilde so I can get past this level. Maybe using the chili on rainbird will allow me to take out the master ninja early.

    After upgrading, I don’t find SRC to be any more difficult than before. I can still kill wizpig without him getting an attack off… using Paladin (aging dragonbreath set), Druid (good non-matched set items), and Tricksters (aging beep gun but non-set offhand). Open with trickster’s chili to stun, and the chili fills back up before he gets another shot off which is enough to take him out.

    I do agree the nerfing sucks. It dampens enthusiasm. Why not introduce new set items, rather than screw with ones that weren’t overpowered to begin with?

    Lootwise the game has stalled. The golden-spin bug created an in interesting element… you wanted to play because you got cool stuff often. Now you have to wait longer to get less-cool loot. They need to address this somehow or I see a lot of players moving on.

    There’s a guy named CarLong that started with 6,665 medals on my board within 15 minutes of the event starting. He hasn’t added any since. Obviously a real player would have to have used a lot of potions and essence to get that much in such a short time. Why would they do so and then sit back and let people slowly pass them?

    Seems pretty likely that Rovio is planting scores to at least get some people motivated to play more.

    @colkurtz

    @burbman – actually you’re right. Playing again, the tit-for-tat still shows up if you examine porky, even after you dispel it. His attack buff is dispelled but not the add’l damge he takes. Kind of annoying, since higher damage is more often than not bad — especially 30%.

    ColKurtz
    @colkurtz

    I liked the last challenge better. Other than the dragons, it wasn’t difficult, but it still gave you something to do for a few minutes. The low and middle levels are just too easy, takes 30 seconds. The higher level is difficult — too difficult for me to beat without potions, and not worth the effort.

    Hopefully the next challenge is at least multi-stage. This feels like busy-work.

    ColKurtz
    @colkurtz

    Prince porky is still bugged when you fight him — his tit-for-tat cannot be debuffed. This has been an issue for the past 3 updates.

    Example: Take samurai, rainbird, and capt’n into desert pig castle. When you encounter porky initially, samurai’s attacks succeed. When he buffs with tit-for-tat (increasing damage taken, and attack, by 25%), dispel by attacking him with capt’n.

    Next time you try to attack porky with samurai, all 3 attacks are blocked by ironclad… for the remainder of the battle.

    Screw the hardest (ronin/750) level. It’s WAY more difficult than the middle 500 level. Maybe worth it if reward was 1000+.

    ColKurtz
    @colkurtz

    Yeah I started about 15 mins in and someone is already at 6,000+, someone else at 2,000.

    HUGE advantage for those with golden chili playing the middle/500 tier. You get to play 4 birds, and 2 out of 3 times the pigs were wiped out immediately when I opened with rage chili on chuck.

    I wondered about this, too. I have epic on 2 iOS devices, and didn’t begin the puzzles and dragons event on either one until at least a day after the challenge started (I missed the first challenge b/c I hadn’t upgraded).

    On both, I was middle of the pack initially, but with semi-frequent play — very few stanima potions used — I ended up in first place with around 20,000 vs. second place around 13,000. Contrast that with some people saying they won with 50,000+ and second place around 40,000.

    So was wondering if they will slot players based on past performance or how often the play the game… or if you start slow maybe you get mixed in with more casual players, giving you better shot at 1st place.

    I guess we’ll have more data, if not answers, in a few hours.

    Forced update on iOS. My rainbow bar is still full, but I haven’t spun yet. Leaving that for my kids to do, as they don’t have facebook and looks to be the last guaranteed set item for quite a while.

    @toothgnasher – iphone 4s constantly crashes for me too. No issue on ipad 4.

    @colkurtz

    @killerkea – Thanks. Came here looking for advice for this level. You’re right, I was able to do it with just Knight and Princess. Attack with red and heal with matilde each round, shield red when lawrence attacks… throw in occasional holy strike. Rince repeat. It’s like they set up this level for that combo. If you need help I agree Cannoneer would help clear it faster as it was a 10+ minute slog with just the 2 birds.

    @cheeky
    – you should be able to do it with paladin and druid. Just need to make sure your paladin can take out the weaker (non-bandana) summoned pigs with one hit. You probably should have started another post rather than threadjacking this one, but luckily there is already one with more info —

    I’m still surprised that so many people are promoting bard. It was posts like this that made me buy it, and I regret it. I can’t remember last time I used it. Maybe people who love it use lots of potions, are playing easier levels, or have full sets for everyone… but in general it simply does not do enough healing to keep birds alive on difficult levels. It does good damage but not so much to offset loss of healing.

    If I had to do it over again I would save my coins and get skulkers. As mentioned, skulkers/druid is awesome combo. Only downside is you get skulkers so late in the game, and if you don’t have a lot of FB friends it’s not too useful in the caves when your third is a pig ally.

    I noticed that Porky’s tit-for-tat cannot be debuffed in King Pig’s castle. If you debuff (I test with both lightning bird and Matilda w/comb) the animation shows “dispelled”, but he continues to do the extra 30%dmg and takes an add’l 15%dmg. iOS 1.0.14.
