Squeaky McGee@squeakymcgeeThe first of those already exists – any battle with all pirate-type enemies are all immune to damage over time. And there’s one cave where at least one debuff can’t be removed. In the caves where your birds get stunned every few rounds, you can’t remove the stun effect via cleansing.
Squeaky McGee@squeakymcgeeI’d say one major downside of the Priest class is that you have to spend almost every turn reestablishing links with your allies to keep the communal healing going. And if you’re fighting enemies with Dispel attacks, she’s nearly useless. Also lacks a cleanse effect (though that’s more of a reason why I prefer Princess than anything against Priest).
Squeaky McGee@squeakymcgeeThe Joker’s attack sounds a lot like Blues’ Rage ability. They even use cards (as an off-hand item). Only thing missing is the stun.
I came up with a good Rage for Bubbles:
For 3 turns, Bubbles goes solo. He inflates and gains 200% health and attack, but the other birds are pushed off the field until it wears off. His attack changes from whatever his class attack was to just damaging all enemies, and he loses his defend ability altogether. (Rage bar is frozen until effect wears off.)
It’d be the only Rage ability that lasts more than one turn, but I think it works.
Squeaky McGee@squeakymcgeeI doubt they’ll do a no-items cave. Items = cash for Rovio. There’s no way they’d discourage you from getting more of them. What they might do instead is make items (and possibly other healing) 50% effective so you have to use more of them.
I could see messing around with the party-structure – you only get 1 of your own birds plus 2 hirelings? Or only 1 of each? Maybe even a 1-on-1 for the whole cave? Or go the other way – allow 4 or even 5 birds, but make the battles much harder so you NEED to bring a large group. (It is possible to have 4 allies at least – it currently only happens in the 2nd wave of Wizpig Castle.)
Permanent undispellable ghost ability on pigs? Force you to miss half of all your attacks? Or maybe just randomly ghost pigs every other turn?
Randomly put undispellable counter-effects on pigs? (Lightning Shield/Thorny Vines)
One evil combination would be repeatedly blocking rage abilities while simultaneously giving all pigs Wildling ability and making the rage bar fill up faster. Even better if you can’t dispel the rage-block so you have to wait for it to wear off while the enemies get the advantage of the full bar for longer.
Squeaky McGee@squeakymcgeeWell, make that 2 duplicates – the second was a weapon. Oh, and there was one time I got a set weapon (completing the candy set for Bomb) but the save game rolled back and I lost it. (To be fair, many of these are since the post about rolls on friends’ pigs being a guarantee if your rainbow bar is full.) I wouldn’t have thought anything of it except that the discrepancy is so large. I guess it is random. For me, I noticed I kept getting items (set and otherwise) for Matilda and almost nobody else at first. It’s annoying because with so few weapons, I can’t get any of the set bonuses despite having most of the off-hand items. (I only have 2 complete sets – one of the weapons goes along with an off-hand I’m still missing.)
Of course the ones I have complete are both the “Revive a bird if killed” ones, for Chuck and Blues – which I’m not even sure if they work. If they do, you must only get a little health back, not enough to save you from a really big hit.
Squeaky McGee@squeakymcgee@killerkea – Actually, the dungeons can get up to 325 just on the loot wheel (which I do almost every time since I have enough Friendship Essence to reroll it), not counting any you get from enemies. And if you use Piggy McCool (which you can’t on King Pig’s Castle), you’ll get even more. Of course you only get one dungeon per day, so King Pig’s is still good, especially since you can use all your own birds and not rely on hiring them. Only annoying part is you need to have a low-damage bird to deal with Prince Porky at the end, so my usual team of Paladin/Wizard/Princess doesn’t work there.
Squeaky McGee@squeakymcgeeSome good ideas there. I thought about the Boomerang for my Hal, but unfortunately, there’s already boomerangs under the Blues’ weapons. Likewise for Terence’s giant fist (which Bomb already has). Also the Bubble Wand I think is actually the exact name of one of Chuck’s weapons (which I used for a while). Maybe if we came up with another word for it? I like the Lollipop for Bubbles, but it’d be better as a weapon and use the basket as off-hand. A suggestion for Stella’s rage is that you make the enemy invulnerable to attack while in the bubble. Otherwise, it’s no different than stun. Not sure about the variable duration. I’d say just make it 1 or 2 turns and be done with it. (3 is a bit much.) Terence’s rage seems to be pretty much the same as Blues’, but without the dispel. I agree that it should be some sort of earthquake-like thing, but it needs something to make it unique. Maybe damage everybody + damage reduction?
Squeaky McGee@squeakymcgeeYeah, I pointed out elsewhere that you’ll get ONE extra medal of whatever type you had for Mage. My Mage was Elite, so I have an extra Elite medal instead. But since you can’t go back to Veteran, it’s impossible to get two extra medals. (I assume if I’d had a Master Mage, I’d have an extra one of those instead.) Doesn’t really serve any purpose other than bragging rights though.
Squeaky McGee@squeakymcgeeMy map (linked earlier in this thread and also posted in the Walkthroughs on the site) has all this info and more, since you can see the entire loot wheel for each level.
As for getting the full map at that resolution, I don’t know how the original map on the site was created, but I can tell you how I did mine. I took dozens of screenshots of the map in rows and columns, and hand-stitched them in Photoshop. The biggest challenge is that things that move on the map didn’t look the same in every shot, so it was hard to line them up sometimes.
I have a blank of the map without all the wheels on it if anyone wants it – it is kind of huge though – about 12MB so I can’t upload it to the site. (I sent the full version directly to Bird Leader via e-mail so he could post it.)
Squeaky McGee@squeakymcgee@junkmaniac – There have always been special offers for the Golden stuff, but they only occur at fixed times very early in the game. Specifically (and somewhat annoyingly), the two Golden Chili offers and the first Golden Cauldron offer seem to be designed to occur when it is impossible to have earned enough coins yet without paying cash for them. (I’ve verified this with a new game on my old phone.)
Squeaky McGee@squeakymcgeeThis is just a harder-to-read version of the map I already made and got posted to the site here.
Squeaky McGee@squeakymcgee@t0panka – I’m on Android, can’t tell you anything about iOS. All I know is the little medal counter on the right will show one extra medal of the appropriate type when you upgrade the Mage to Archmage. As far as I know, the medals serve no purpose other than bragging rights. Oh, and the first medal you get of each type (Veteran/Elite/Master) gives you an achievement. But that doesn’t apply in this case, since it’s not going to get you a medal of a higher type than those you already have.
All in all, there’s no reason NOT to upgrade from Mage to Archmage. It costs nothing and it’s just a slightly stronger version. I still prefer Wizard (or Rainbird against Dodge opponents), but since I already had every class at Elite level (except Skulkers, Thunderbird, and Sea Dog, which I can’t afford yet), this was just gravy. And I think the sale ends in 3 days or so? So get it now while you can.
Unfortunately, it seems like they can only upgrade the first class for each bird, otherwise it’d be unfair to people who hadn’t already gotten that class. I’m hoping they do this for Pirate or Tricksters, as those are the only starting classes I actually use sometimes.
Squeaky McGee@squeakymcgee@thebirdstunna – From my experience on two phones, you can get ONE extra medal from the Archmage upgrade, but only based on the current level of your Mage class. So if you already have Veteran Mage, you’ll have an extra bronze medal, if you already have Elite Mage as I did, you’ll have an extra silver medal (but NOT the bronze), and presumably if you had Master Mage, you’d get an extra gold (but not bronze or silver). On my old phone, I didn’t even have Veteran, since I’ve been playing the game over from scratch. So while I’ve got the Archmage now, I won’t get any extra medals, since you can’t go back to regular Mage and get the medals for both classes. This is probably the same for the Ronin upgrade for Red’s Knight class that was only available in Japan.
Squeaky McGee@squeakymcgeeOh, one other thing about the 3 hours. The timer starts when you visit the Dojo. If you wait 5 hours and visit, the timer starts again at 3 hours. For those 5 hours, it doesn’t change if you didn’t visit it. I will say that some of the upgrades I was looking for took forever to show up. My last Elite upgrade turned up about a week later than my second-to-last. (I have 21 classes at Elite now. The others I haven’t saved enough LCs to buy the headgear yet.) And I was checking pretty much religiously every 3 hours except when I was asleep. When I can finally afford the Bard in the next couple days, I’m sure it’ll take forever for both her upgrades to show up. Just the nature of the random beast. Also a way they can tempt you to waste 5 LCs to have him reroll. Don’t do it. The ones you want will appear eventually, and those LCs are just too rare and precious to waste on that.
Squeaky McGee@squeakymcgee@tomc – You can do that IF you haven’t already gotten the blueprint from that level. Which I have, so I can’t anymore.
For GP items, the number of stars is shown ONCE, when you first get it. After that you can never see it again, so unless you’ve got a great memory, it’s kind of difficult to figure out after the fact. And even then, they’re dependent on your level at the time you get them (as are Set items), so the stats are variable.
As far as using the same image, there are some regular, non-GP items that do that too. That’s just saving basically work for the artists (and storage space for the image files). Usually there are some high-level items that use the same image as much lower-level items, so you’re not likely to see them both at the same time unless you hoard everything.
Squeaky McGee@squeakymcgee@chiiyuen0109 – Unfortunately, when you find a better version of any given type of blueprint, it replaces the old one. Since I waited until I was already pretty far in the game before starting this, I missed out on a bunch. Only way to get them back is to start a whole new game – which is exactly what I’ve done on my old phone. The ones at the Workshops you can still see even at end-game, so they were no problem. And I’ve got all the highest-level ones I’ve found on there. And now with my new game I’ve got a bunch of low-level ones. (Just up to Star Reef Castle now, but it’s a bit slow-going since I’m not hooking it up to my Facebook account – I’d need a second Facebook to do that, for which I’d also need a second e-mail, and a second Rovio account, just too much hassle.) But the ones in the middle are missing, will be filled in slowly.
Squeaky McGee@squeakymcgeeMore Chuck (Norris?) Facts:
- Lightning Bird’s “Lightning Speed” move can be performed even on a bird which is stunned, causing the stunned bird to attack. It stays stunned, of course, but this is a great way to use the ability of a stunned bird if you aren’t able to cleanse them. (Especially useful in Cure Caverns, where the stun effect CAN’T be cleansed by any ability.) I found this worked well with Paladin – if Red got stunned, you could still use him to heal the party by having him attack through Chuck. Probably good with Cleric too.
- The secondary damage of the Wizard’s “Chain Lightning” is unaffected by buffs and debuffs. Only the first target receives more or less damage. The rest are the same. Possibly applies to other multi-target effects? Must check other Chuck classes, and also Blues’ Spies.
Not Chuck-related but:
- The annoying Mimic ability (used by Frost Shamans) has one loophole. In order for it to steal the healing from an affected bird, there must be a living pig to steal it. Where this helps is, for example, if there’s only one pig left in a wave, which can be killed by the Paladin, but the Paladin is currently Mimic’ed and has the lowest health, and you don’t want to waste a turn cleansing him first, go ahead and do the attack and kill that last pig, and the Paladin will be healed even though he has the Mimic curse on him because there’s no pig alive in the current wave, even if there are more waves coming.
Squeaky McGee@squeakymcgee@silverbrain – Most of the walkthroughs on this site were from an earlier version I think. You’ll also note that the max level was higher back then, since they’re all done at level 41. Max was 25 for a while, now we’re getting varying reports, so I don’t know what to believe. (I just maxed out at 29 myself.) Anyhow, many of the later levels have changed considerably.
@chiiyuen0109 – Well, it appears that there’s some inconsistency between games as to the locations of the items. I added the ones you gave me (you’re still missing the stats on those, as well as the materials needed for the others), but it seems there are varying numbers on these things. Possibly the name and graphic are chosen separately from the actual stats of the items, and as such are randomized for everyone? Hard to say for sure with such a small sample.
Squeaky McGee@squeakymcgeeFor what it’s worth, I just reached “Max Level” at 29. Does seem like people’s mileage is varying on that note though. 29 does seem like an odd cap. You’d think 30 maybe, but 29 just seems sorta random.
Squeaky McGee@squeakymcgeeI made a thread to answer just this kind of question. Look for “Dispel (Allies)”. Best option I think is Tricksters, because they can cleanse the whole party in one go, and you also get a damage boost for the next 3 turns at the same time. Tricksters can also dispel enemies, so they’re one of my favorite Blues classes. (And it’s the free one they start with.)
Squeaky McGee@squeakymcgeeYou’ll change your mind on using Chuck as a healer once you try the Wizard class. Rainbird’s healing is just too weak and spread out to be useful in later battles where a single enemy can do massive damage to a target, and Wizard is one of the best for dealing mass damage to multiple enemies. (Plus, Rainbird’s attack is wasted when using Chuck’s Rage attack, since he’ll always attack twice but the poison doesn’t stack.) Princess may only heal one at a time, but she’s still the most effective overall healer. (Possibly excluding Bard – I don’t have that one yet. Will have her in about a week to compare.)
Squeaky McGee@squeakymcgeeMost Wave battles towards the end of the game are good for this. Chronicle Caves are great if you can do them reliably. Take advantage of that Well-Rested bonus and play the game on and off in cycles. Getting double-experience from a 10-wave CC level is very helpful.
One other tip is to keep an eye out for enemies which summon allies. Avoid killing them before they can summon and you get extra XP for killing their summons. (Note that this doesn’t apply to undead – there’s a max of 7 per wave, and you only get XP from undead once when everything else is dead.) The various varieties of Pigmies are ideal for this.
You can also fight Monty at Old Nesting Barrows – 6. He summons 2 allies every turn (up to 7 total counting Monty himself), and if you avoid killing Monty, you can farm those forever. Not worth a whole lot, but it’s pretty easy.
Squeaky McGee@squeakymcgeeYeah, generally speaking, never scrap any Set item unless you acquire a higher-level version of the same item. Most of the Set bonuses are well worth the slightly lower stats. I’d equip the other item for now though and just keep the Paper around in case you get lucky and roll the Rock in the future.
Squeaky McGee@squeakymcgee@killerkea – Actually, it’s much easier to complete sets in a game like Diablo because you can trade items with other players. I wish they’d put a trading system into Epic. I’ve got half of several sets which I don’t expect I’ll complete for a very long time…
Squeaky McGee@squeakymcgeePersonally, I think that 20 coins is simply not worth it, unless you’re putting money into the game and have coins to burn. There are other much better things to spend your hard-earned lucky coins on. Get the Golden Chili, the 5 special classes and at least one Master class first. Golden Cauldron/Forge are nice but optional. (I got the Cauldron when it was on sale for 60 coins, was a nice way to make alchemy less tedious.) Definitely don’t use them to revive birds, purchase Snoutlings, or re-roll the Mighty Eagle’s training roster. The cheap roll might be worth it if you’ve got most of the things you want already. To get an idea, note that you can only get 35 per week (once you’ve gotten all the chests and reached max level). Look at something you want and divide by 35. That’s how many weeks it’ll take to get it. E.g. Diamond Cauldron at 700 will take 700 / 35 = 20 weeks (yes, 5 months) to afford…
