Sad thing is that anyone considered they could actually say anything like that. Even though we all know that is what they really think, lol.
EpicGrindr@epicgrindr@datguygamer @toolow @smwforever45
That “Official Response” I posted was entirely fabricated (with the exception of the words “never intended”, which is a direct quote from an actual Rovio response to complaints we made after an update not too long ago).If you found yourself considering that my extremely offensive joke response might actually be real, even for a second, then you might want to seriously take a look around for a different game whose developer is a bit more respectful of players and responsive to their concerns. You all are a fine representation of the best, most patient, loyal gamers a company could want, and there’s got to be some devs out there that don’t follow the abhorrent practice of rewarding player efforts by constantly devaluing accomplishments and moving the bar higher and higher instead of adding actual gameplay enhancements.
EpicGrindr@epicgrindrOfficial response from the developers regarding complaints about latest update:
“Sorry to hear you are having trouble. However, it was never intended that players would be able to reach maximum Mastery levels without a monetary investment equivalent to an ongoing monthly car payment. We feel such investment is worthwhile for such a unique and high-quality game. Additionally, Rovio is planning to discontinue all of their games which don’t meet the criteria for ‘Obscenely Profitable’ status, and we want to keep our jobs. Please consider making several large purchases of Lucky Coins, and we will consider revising the code to suit your preferences.”
@smwforever45
Sorry to cut and run like this, but I’m taking a break from ABE. Possibly permanently. Just want to say that Statistics Heroes like you deserve a more stable and respectful game to focus on.
@pointless
Yep… your handle says it all, really, lol. But regardless, been fun reading your perspectives over the months. Hope you enjoy still hammering away at those caves: Good Luck!
@datguygamer
Peace out and props for the code-investigations. Was that you who found all those Elite class pics and posted them up? Well, thanks to whoever that was, anyway. Was pretty cool.@everybody else:
Thanks for adding entertainment value to ABE by posting on this site. You all are awesome gamin crew. Maybe I’ll check back again someday to see what everybody is up to. KiK ‘Arxslyde’ if you find some non-Rovio game ya want to invite me to.
@Rovio
Y’all remind me of Rincewind the ‘Wizzard’: comically inept, vastly self-centered, and yet still somehow managing to make some small contribution to the world. Must be The Luggage that’s following you around…

Regarding Arena items: I know what you are referring to as far as banner items and timing of what Arena League (wood-diamond) affecting the strength of the AGPM items spun up. My experience used to be as described: when Arena Reset occurred, banner items awarded were weaker at wood than when they were stone, etc.
After one of the later ABE updates, it changed to where purchased/daily spin banners would award at the highest level attained during the previous Arena season. I.E. if I reached the Gold League, the the banners would award at Gold League strength all through the next season, or until I got promoted to Platinum League.
It still seems to operate the same way. I can verify that player level does affect APGM item strength also, but once you reach 62, it is pretty uniform.
That free item from full rainbow bar has never awarded me a banner set item which I didn’t already own, so I can’t say if that is different, since I immediately scrap those for the shard and haven’t bothered to check stats first.
EpicGrindr@epicgrindr@datguygamer
Nah, I didn’t get an award chest at start; that was my girl’s account (on iOS). She doesn’t play enough to build up any spare FE or Stamina Drinks, so she’s only got 7k medals yet. Doesn’t sound like she’ll get an award chest at 10k from the sound of things, but will let you know.
EpicGrindr@epicgrindr@datguygamer @smwforever45
Update on event: I hit 10k event medals on my Android, opened chest, and it awarded Elite Cannoneer. Nice, but since I got my Blues’ Artillary set to level 10, I really wanted the Elite Rogues. Spent 5 LC to re roll and it came up with Guardian. I didn’t care about that enough to earn it during its event, so I re-rolled again and it came up with Druid. Still grumbling, I gave it one more try and got the Rogues: looks super cool to me. Yay for 2300 xtra damage for 3 turns on non-immune targets!
I guess Elite Lightning Bird knew better than to show up as an Event award for me, cuz I was gonna do a Lightning Uninstall if it did, lol.Side Note: Since today is happy Rainbow Riot x5 day, I figured I would throw some o my LCs into the Arena GPM to see if I could get any of the new banner set items. First whack at the 25LC pack awarded two new banner set items (“Bird of Justice” and “Stone Blanket”). Subsequent rolls didn’t award any banner set juiciness, but I won’t moan about it. I don’t have the shards/mats to level up banners anyway, since I poured so much of my scrimpings into the Artillary set. :-)
Anyhow, nobody else in my event team is trying hard, so I look to finish on the losing side, but that doesn’t bother me much. Kind of a goofy event anyhow, but to be expected when they introduce any new code it is always buggy, lol.
EpicGrindr@epicgrindr@smwforever45
Ok I started event and found that my account (on Android OS) did not receive a “Bonus Elite Upgrade” that some people have reported getting. When I fired up my daughter’s ABE (on iOS), that account was awarded the Bonus Elite Upgrade. So I wonder if it has to do with the platform being used.
EpicGrindr@epicgrindrUpdated to 1.5.4: so far noticed the following
* paths between world map levels are shorter (less time wasted curving back and forth).
* Arena opponents now are up to 1000 power stronger than in 1.5.3, and none so far have a lower power (and I’m still in wood league, lol).
* None of the Arena opponents post-update have any of the new banner sets anymore.So the arena changes just don’t make sense. Who were those new banner-users clogging up the arena in 5.3, and where did they go, and why does Rovio seem to object to me being able to achieve a 3-star result in Arena?
EpicGrindr@epicgrindr@jacob1
Not sure what the concern is with getting new banner sets. Since their release, approximately 85% of my arena opponents have had one of the new banner sets equipped. Naturally, none of my AGPM rolls have awarded a new banner set item, but I don’t spend a lot of LC on that so I just figured others were rolling till they get em.
@smwforever45
Are you going to republish mastery data for this version, or are you burned out on that? Nobody would blame you if you were, lol.I was just settling in to a happy place where Arena matchups have been tolerable and new bird leveling was feeling pretty fair. Not looking forward to updating and getting slaughtered in Arena again…
EpicGrindr@epicgrindr@smwforever45 Maybe I can put it in perspective this way: my M13 Wizard is two levels away from max level. If I enchant my equipment a little more, it is strong enough to compete against a M15 wizard opponent. So I am grinding away trying to get to M15, getting closer, and suddenly “BAM”! The opponent’s M15 Wizard is now a M60 Wizard (and has not become weaker?) while my M13 is now M53, and HAS become significantly weaker. So now I can’t compete until I get closer to M60.
Well, I guess you could say that now I don’t have collect ALL that 50k mastery to get stronger: I will just get stronger in smaller increments, more often. I guess that is a good thing. But you cannot tell me that whoever is sitting there with M60 birds isn’t laughing their butts off at how much weaker a large percentage of their opponents just got. Or maybe they never get matched up with weaker opponents? I’ll never know, because every time I get close to catching up, Rovio raises the level limit. I feel like I am actually getting further and further away from achieving bird level cap due to the game changes.
So depressing! I guess I should quit wasting time moaning about it and go grind some more! ?
EpicGrindr@epicgrindr@smwforever45 While my brain can see what you are talking about, it doesn’t change the fact that my heart is all torn up over the rebalancing. I know that my rogues are still doing roughly the same percentage of damage they did before, but I was excited to get their “damage per turn” above 2k mark, and now that landmark (which took considerable grinding to achieve) is arbitrarily whisked away, lol. I tend to agree with @datguygamer about nerfs, and feel that if you want to balance gameplay, you introduce new rules, equipment, and/or strengthen the weaker side to generate new excitement of competition. You don’t devalue stats on the stronger side. It is just a matter of preference, but ya can’t fault people for their preferences, lol.
EpicGrindr@epicgrindrAnd it looks like the mastery to next level is a lot less than it used to be? Who the heck has the patience to keep figuring all this out?
EpicGrindr@epicgrindrWell so far it looks like all my birds got weaker. Event seems to work like it is supposed to, but I think this could be my last ABE event. After 2+ years, it is just not good enough a game to keep tolerating the crap they keep pulling.
EpicGrindr@epicgrindr@shapokomanbeast
I can second your observation regarding wheel prize tendency to gravitate in a specific direction for a period of time. I have also noticed that if I use FE to re-spin until top prize awards, it seems to be more likely to continue paying the top prize for a few battles. But this is only perception based. Over the course of dozens of battles, the wheel usually seems to end up awarding an average number of medals equal to half the maximum payout. So for calculation purposes, I estimate how many battles I need to win based on that half-maximum average payout.
EpicGrindr@epicgrindrWell if there is one thing we have learned for sure about Arena, it is this:
If you are dissatisfied with the current state: check back later. Rovio is constantly tweaking the arena, searching for the ever-elusive “Maximum Income Configuration”…
EpicGrindr@epicgrindr@dallasreds
Any time you exit ABE, the matchup will change. I have also noticed that after an update, matchups will sometimes change in unusual ways. After one recent update, I saw matchups change each time I used the “back” arrow to select different birds or banner setups. A day later, that had stopped.
EpicGrindr@epicgrindrHoly Fecal Matter, Batman!
What is the deal, Rovio? You got something against Arena goals being feasible?
After 1.5 update, Arena sux more than a Hoover with a black hole in it!
Went from evenly matched opponents to being instantly, reliably, and completely outclassed in every matchup! If I was ever inclined to spend any money on ABE, this update just squashed that temptation like a Capn+Red+Rage attack…
EpicGrindr@epicgrindrInteresting arena note: after a few hours of grinding points in arena, it looks like opponent strength increase ties more directly to score than it does to number of wins.
So the more matches you play before achieving the daily goals, the easier the opponents you may get before completing the goals. This may be useful if you are trying to catch up with someone who has a higher point total than yours,
For example: I purposely used a team that would not fulfill the goals and played about 40 matches. With few exceptions, the opponents I matched up against at that time were pretty quick and easy to defeat. Once I caught up to the player above me on the rankings, I switched to a team that allowed me to finish the goals, and my ranking moved up to the middle of 2 star group. After that, opponent matchups got much more difficult.I don’t know if this is always true for everyone else, but it seems to be consistent for me…
EpicGrindr@epicgrindr@suzyq
I usually don’t do more than daily goals plus a few more matches. One time I made it to 7000 in about 20 minutes.
@smwforever45
Well, I have seen posts of players who claim to be doing upward of 17,000 damage to a banner in 1 hit. If true, I can see matches being short enough to get past 9k pretty quick. In other words, if you can win in 2 turns, maybe. But the realist in me agrees with your assessment: which leaves me scratching my head when players pop in with 9-10k points in 15-20 minutes.Rather than getting bent out of shape and throwing accusations, I started this topic to see if people’s fastest setups can make a 3-4K point lead in a short time. Personally, I can clear a battle in 4 or 5 turns for my team (against a weaker opponent). That doesn’t add up to anything like 9-10k points in 15 minutes though… Ha
EpicGrindr@epicgrindr@smwforever45
Unfortunately, Skulkers+Bard does not stun all targets. Oddly enough, if you use Skulkers on Bard, the stun does not always affect the attacked target (unless there is only one target): it sometimes stuns one other target. Basically, this begs the question: “Is stun actually considered a status infliction?” I will try to test by equipping StoneGuard with something that doesn’t ever give bonus damage and see if it does 150% damage on a stunned opponent.Edit: Yes, StoneGuard does extra damage to stunned opponent, so I guess stun IS considered a status infliction, so apparently Skulkers’ “Tricksy Trick” just can’t process a randomly inflicted status properly. The “apply to all enemies” code probably gets processed (with Bard) as, “15% chance to inflict stun on all enemies”.
Further testing confirms this, as I just got Tricksy Trick to stun 2 pigs.
Still, it is a disappointing interpretation of what players expect it to mean, lol.
EpicGrindr@epicgrindr@smwforever45
If your arena goals are anything like mine, keep hoarding those LCs for TBird!
I am still mad at Skulkers for not being a Chuck class.. Want to use at the same time as Rogues…
EpicGrindr@epicgrindr@smwforever45
Frost Savage is The Bomb (pun intended) when teamed up with a Wizard and Princess/Nightmare. As long as the pigs aren’t immune to stun, they’re more like harmless frogs against this setup (due to all the croaking, haha). When using this combo in an event, I can mow down those new piggies so fast that it takes hours of play before I even find out what the new pigs’ abilities are, lol. Doesn’t even matter that my Frost Savage is a few levels lower than the other two.Of course, I admit to having an unhealthy obsession with Matilda’s Nightmare set, but I blame this on the fact that Frostheart/FrozenHide was my first banner set. And you know what they say, “>2500 damage to opponent without using a turn = Quick and Easy Victories”… Well, if they don’t say that, they should!
Agree about Cleric, though.. uber-yawn. Elite Cleric = Why Bother? It’s still not strong enough to merit regular use, and it is always irritating to see Cleric in arena goals…
As far as Elite Illusionist goes, I think I would prefer an Elite Root Canal, or even an Average Pimple…
EpicGrindr@epicgrindr@smwforever45
Illusionist? To date, best use I have found for it is in a scenario where Matilda has Nightmare set and Red has the hammer set on Samurai. Then you get 6 chances for a double-turn stun, each of which nails the opponent for huge bonus damage. In fact, that kills any typical bird opponent in one turn, but is juicy fun vs a banner (especially if the opposition doesn’t have a status remover)!
Other than that, I would only use It if I had to use Chuck when arena goal prohibits knocking out a bird, and even then would only use his support ability. It is tough to wrangle during most arena events, and I’m always thrilled to see it on the opponent’s side, lol.Sigh… Editing because I am goofy tired…
EpicGrindr@epicgrindrHere’s the LC-purchase class priority list:
1.) whatever class the game keeps putting in your arena goals most often.
2.) whatever class you have best quality gear set for.
3.) any others.This priority tends to work out like:
1.) SeaDog
2.) Thunderbird
3.) Skulkers
4.) Priestess and Bard
5.) anything else yer missing.Exception: if ya don’t have Matilda’s witch yet, don’t spend a single LC on anything else until you do. This goes double if you happen to have the Sweet set (Honey Spoon + Honey Jar)
EpicGrindr@epicgrindr@smwforever45
Wut??? For competitors such as yourself, class acquisition should be TOP priority, even more than leveling up existing classes or collecting set items! All these event rewards you work so hard to get don’t get applied to classes you don’t have. I’m surprised you haven’t collected them all yet.Stella is basically the girl-version of Red, so I would expect her classes to be similar to Red’s, perhaps doing a bit lower default damage, but possibly higher damage when enhanced by support abilities. Maybe with a “medium damage all + bypass opponent effects” rage ability (not “dispel + single atk” like Blues).
