    @rovertank

    Here is a direct link to the support request page for Rovio:

    https://support.rovio.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

    Are you saying you had the crates appear earlier this week, but only for one day? What takes “months long”? As indicated by the response from Rovio to my request, we may never see the crates back before they put Bad Piggies permanently on ice. That’s just the way it goes sometimes…

    Thanks,

    Not much help now, probably, but the switch glitches are fixed in Bad Piggies HD in version 2.3.4…

    Sad news is that daily hidden crates are no longer presented in the same update, and Rovio said they are in no hurry to fix it since Bad Piggies is not in active development anymore.  :\

    Oof, I wasn’t even thinking about Arena… That really stinks.

    One would think this would be big enough that they give out a free class to folks affected (or at least enough LC to buy one at a discount).

    The whole event missed for you as well? I stopped doing the uninstall/reinstall thing after Friday, so am not sure what worked for people. But it still doesn’t work for me, so I missed the whole event.

    And instead of starting a support ticket with Rovio, I will be uninstalling Epic. I feel bad if you feel compelled to do the same, though, since you are a much greater tactician than I am and I now you enjoy the Arena, if nothing else.

    Sorry things went this way — it is the worst I have seen from Rovio since…well, ever.

    Can you tell us what your platform method is and what you did (if anything) to get the 2.4.0 version w0rking? A ton of folks are still stuck at “Loading balancing into memory”.

    I am in the same boat, gents. Reinstalled twice, rebooted my iPhone, the whole works. Even went through the whole tutorial, then quit, then got back in to sign in and it still said: “Game update required for this profile”. I checked for updates, there were none. Tried to log in again and got stuck on “Loading balancing into memory”.

    My ABE version is 2.4.0 (26801.5510.0). Running on iOS, iPhone 5s.

    Competition starts in 38 minutes. *sigh*. This might really be the final sign it is time to uninstall and never look back.

    You have a good point, and no, I don’t know of a great alternative for a party-based game that keeps the dynamics this simple. And I don’t want to play any of the quagmires that are Lords Mobile or Fire War or whatever — those all seem like too much, and are just as a money-grubbing.

    A lot of tactical games out there are the “conquer” or “destroy” types where all you are doing is taking over an area and building a civilization/army/whatever. I don’t care for those, either.

    So, no, I don’t really have a replacement for ABE — which is probably why I still haven’t completely left.  *smile*

    Anyone else know games similar to ABE to try out?

    Sure, I could spend my time and energy looking for positive aspects in a dying game…or I could just quit and find something else to play.

    We’re not operating in a vacuum here, and there is absolutely no reason for loyalty to any game that generates revenue via IAP and ads. Heck, there isn’t even” buyer’s bias” in play because we haven’t actually bought anything!

    When there are literally thousands of games out there, I don’t see much point to trying to bright-side Epic. That’s just my opinion, of course.

    You got me thinking about Rovio in general and their more-recent penchant for creating player-vs-player areas in their games…

    Other than newer games where they had arena-based play at rollout (or very soon thereafter, like Angry Birds 2), I think it all started with Go! They added the face-off racing, which felt like a natural addition to a racing game. No new content, really, just implement a leaderboard and head-to-head matchups.

    And that has been the trend, even with very, very old games. They added the Arena to Epic, Master League to the original Angry Birds (which I don’t mind so much in its newer incarnation), and even added Cake Race to Bad Piggies. Of course, at that point they also add some sort of coins or crates to a game to make people buy more stuff to be “competitive”.

    Then, in Go!, they even went so far as to make a sequel simply be a reset for everything.

    It seems very clear that instead of generating actual game content, Rovio is going to continue to create new games or simply tack on some sort of leaderboard-based content to existing games they decide not to scuttle. At this point I honestly believe there will never be an Epic 2. It’s much easier (and cheaper) to just raise power limits and perform tiny rebalancings and then let player-vs-player drive the sales. Ads help too, I am sure, but it is the stores that bring in real revenue, I’d wager. I wonder if once they go public (have they already) if their filings will break out what revenue comes from where…

    As long as enough sheep spend real cash to “win” at these entirely fabricated contests (yes, I know every game is fabricated, but Rovio’s leaderboards are a fabrication within a fabrication), Rovio has no reason to change their course of action. And they aren’t the only game maker doing that. Heck, very few game makers aren’t, at this point.

    Hm, didn’t even notice I have a buff on my All Star as well, “Refusal”: Debuffed enemies to 20% less damage.

    So I guess the All Star classes level out to have some new things, but they are still just dilution, in my view. Much better to have a whole new bird or some actual new levels to play!

    Thanks,

    @sutekh137

    @maxxmatt

    The All Star classes appear to vary in their attributes as to what they buff (or don’t). If you press and hold all the classes in the Event chest, you could see what various all star classes do. They might not even be consistent. Perhaps one person’s All Star Princess buffs offense while another buffs defense? Not sure.

    All I know is that I got an All Star Princess that is worthless since the Elite Princess I have has better stats. The All Star classes are pretty much just window dressing that dilutes the classes you can receive from Event chests. In a word, they are stupid, and more proof that Rovio is only going to add stupid things to Epic: artwork, higher limits, etc. as time goes on. No actual new content in a couple years now.

    Yep, just more dilution with these All-Star classes. No new gameplay mechanics, no new content, just various buffs and balancings.

    I did get my last Elite, though, so at least I can say that much is complete…

    The cumulative effect of some of that Arena gear is why I will never touch the Arena again (tried it last a few weeks back and got really disgusted with it).

    It used to have a 65% chance of resetting (same chance as Bomb’s Finisher), and now it is 25%.

    If I am wrong about that then I really must be losing it. I am almost _certain_ it used to have a much higher chance, because if I put Chuck and Treasure Hunter on a team, nothing that counted up ever got a shot off. Chuck was also very, very effective in the Arena because he could reset counters even on knocked out folks, and it was pretty sick. I could regularly win battles without the other team laying a hand on me (if I got the coin toss to go my way).

    I can’t recall when it went down to 25%, I just know I was doing some event and wondering “what the heck?” when resets were almost never happening, and I checked the description for the Set and saw it was only 25%. I am almost positive it was a nerf, becauseI have been waiting for Finisher to get nerfed ever since (in my opinion, they both should have been set to something like 40-45% from the start and left there — two-thirds of the time is too buff).

    Stop giving them ideas!

    I ended up getting exactly what I wanted — Elite Spies, so that was nice. I generally run the pure-offense Wizard/Seadog(w/ Finisher)/Spies. Get’s almost every job done. Not happy about the nerf of Chuck’s Reset gear, but Finisher is still soooo mighty (15k+ hits!).

    Good calls all around… I am saving all of my LC for Dojo buys come November, if I am still around at that point. Should be able to knock out a level ov mastery across all classes with the 5 LC Dojo resets…

    My Red is still sporting a Level 52 Dragontooth. I gave up on the weapon-level treadmill a LONG time ago, as I don’t have the LCs to keep up… Just more Rovio money-grabbing!

    Yeah, not sure why they keep moving stuff around, and the class summary viewer isn’t all that convenient, in my opinion. Since Legacy and Elite classes are apparently the same in terms of strength at this point, all it is viewing is the new artwork. Big whoop. Epic has needed more than just new artwork for more than two years now.

    @sutekh137

    Actually, the new “Legacy” classes are WORSE than window dressing — they dilute the chances of getting an Elite class upgrade now in the event.

    I should have been down to Elite Pirate and Elite Spies as choices in the chest, but now there are three “Legacy” classes in there along with the Elites, two of which I already have Elites for.

    Now instead of having a 50/50 shot at Elite Spies (finally!), I only have a 20% chance. This is the stupidest thing I have ever seen. About the only reason I was hanging around was to round out Elite class upgrades for all my birds, and now that is being strung out weeks and months as event rewards are diluted with upgrades where the only benefit is…new artwork? Disgusting.

    You said it all. This is window dressing.

    And what else updated today? Angry Birds — the original game, with 15 new levels. Actual NEW CONTENT!

    Yet Epic can’t get more than tweaks and rebalances. Baffling.

    Sadly, it has not been on since 2013. I have all the episodes as MP4 files, and there might still be places to download them, but it was a while ago… Not sure if they will ever get together to throw together another season or not (just 12 episodes, and they are only 10-12 minutes).

    I watch and re-watch it so much that I didn’t realize it has been off the air for four years.  :\

    You sound like the POTN (President of the Navy) on the Adult Swim gem, “NTSF:SD:SUV::” (one of my favorite shows of all time) when he describes how he has escalated a double-cross situation past “El triple-y cruise” (a triple-cross) all the way to a four-way cross:

    POTN: “It’s called the Cross, Double-Squared. Never used and highly classified, the only two people who know about it are myself, and my ROCKET LOVER!!!!”

    Love that show.

    The 70-snoutling offers are definitely nice. Sounds like you are plowing along nicely — I admire your grinding spirit!

    Mastery limits should not increase until November unless Rovio is changing the timing on that (every six months, last such update was in May). But who knows. They do seem to be talking p the 2.2 update, but then they also talked up 2.0 quite a bit and it really wasn’t that big if a deal. Ancients are stupid, in my opinion…
