Angry Birds Mine and Dine 3 Star Walkthrough Level 16-4

Mine and Dine level 16-4 is quite challenging. Our strategy is to lob the first Black bird into the gap between the two towers on the left. The resulting explosion will push the towers outward and hopefully cause a lot of damage. Arc the next Black bird into bottom-left triangle of the top tower to cause it to topple leftward. Note that passing the level with only 2 birds does not guarantee 3 stars. More important is the destruction. The score in the video below is 112,310.

2 days… Can’t get 3 stars. Personally, this has been the second hardest level of any AB game. (second only to the Halloween level with the slanted towers… Took a month to get 3 stars!)

I love that the level is hard, but I hate it at the same time.

I’m so addicted to AB that it worries me sometimes! To repeat the sentiment posted by others, I really do appreciate this site. With the helpful walkthroughs, comments, and leader boards (with average scores), this is Hands DOWN, best AB site on the web!

Keep up the good work! … It’s much appreciated.

I have been doing this the same way as the video, Then I realized the difference between getting a so-so score and and pretty good one, was how much rubble falls off the low rock in the middle. If it doesn`t fall you can get anywhere from 85,000-103,00. So I kept replaying until the rocks fell better in the middle. Just based on the first blast. I now have 111,700, and I know I can do better, But it seems to be the placement of the first bomb.

119950… Easier method.

Bird 1: shoot straght into edge of horizontal stone plank located above the first pig… The big pig in the big miners helmet. It will break through and fall/nestle right next to the big pig. Let it explode and you can do massive damage, yielding 80k easily. For this particular score, it destroyed everything except for the rightmost pig in the high stone tower and I had 92k after this 1st bird! (using the other method I was lucky to reach 90k after all three birds!!!). It only took a 4 or 5 attempts before I got it to destroy all but one pig, so it’s not a rare, or hard to achieve result.

Bird 2: take out right tower like in the video.

Bird 3: 10000 points

Note: 130,000 should be achievable using this method. I messed up because I was so excited after the first bird, I hit the screen by accident, and wasted the second bird. So this score is with bird 2 causing NO damage and using bird 3 for the tower (thus I didn’t get the 10000 bonus).

It was not difficult to get the high score. What has been hard is to duplicate it.

Dropped the first bomb on top of the left side of the thick horizontal concrete bar of the second structure rather than down between the first and second structure. This caused the concrete blocks to fly to the right, hitting the far right structure, which then collapsed to the left. Second bomb dropped at the base of the first structure. White bird remaining.

Wow, this one took me forever. Definitely one of the harder levels to get three stars in.

I tried loox’s strategy above but could never get more than 50,000 points with my first bird, not nearly enough to get three stars. I finally got it using the same strategy as the video.

I found that the amount of destruction you get with your first bird depends a lot on exactly how it falls. If you go slightly too far to the right and take out both concrete blocks just to the top right of the little pig in the gap, then the right tower will not fall (I guess because the two wood blocks left over just blow up and don’t put enough force on the right tower–whereas if those two concrete blocks are there, they blast to the right and knock down the tower). If you go slightly too far to the left, and the pig doesn’t pop right away, he buffers the explosion, and again the right tower won’t fall. The best situation is if you can get right in the center and pop the little pig before exploding, so you get the optimum blast on both towers. At least, that seemed to get me the most points on a consistent basis. There’s a lot of luck involved on this level.

Send the first bomb on a very high arc, causing it to land in the little “nook” in the first structure holding a small, spot-light-helmeted pig leaning against a wood piece.

Get the bomb in there, and detonate it. This should send pieces flying in all directions and with a bit of good luck, a concrete block into the wooden structure holding the highest pig, causing him to fall as well.

The goal is to get the horizontal stone plank with the shovel in it to go up and hit the far right stone column. This can also be done with a straight line shot of BB coming to rest on the vertical wood column underneath the shovel.

@wrw01 a huge thank you for this idea, also to @vuelva for his screenshots & detail included with them. I prefer to use the straight ahead shot you mention towards the plank with the shovel attached. I found I could clip the top ice block on the left, which slows the bomb down & tips it towards that plank, or send the bomb very low over the ice on the left to rest on the horizontal stone block beneath the plank. Both methods can produce the same result – enough of an explosion to send debris over to the right tower & knock it down. Sometimes it wasn’t specifically the plank with the shovel, but just the general shower of debris that got it done. My higher scores came when I had 85k+ after the 1st shot.
I used to mock a mockingbirds’s 2nd shot of a lob to the right of the remaining front pig. I had more trouble getting that shot to work, but when it did I got better destruction than just sending the bomb straight to the pig.

136k with two birds.
final score:

For the 1st, i was following the idea of the 1st bird of
combined with that of sending a helmet into one of the crevices of the right tower to destabilise it (cf. item 3 in my first comment on Angry Birds Free Level 7-3). For the 2nd, i noted that the destruction of the 2nd bird of the theater333 video was quite minimal (17k) and that more (20k-30k) could be had by using (almost) the same trajectory as for the 1st (given the right placement of the helmet).

Still, the 1st shot in the theater333 video is amazing and i’ve not been able to replicate it (that is, to take also the right part of the tower down, by letting the horizontal stone plank with the shovel in it bump into that part, as reported in the comment of @wrw01 above), whence my adaptation to employ the helmet instead to take the tower down completely.

Scoring 125k+ is not too difficult using this strategy, but getting 130k+ took a lot of effort (this was my first successful attempt, but a quite successful one at that, so will not play the level again). i’m curious as to how other 130k+ scores have been achieved (the top scorer has already reported her strategy above, but i could not get that to work, however hard i tried).

Rank: Gold Flinger with 9485 points
By to mock a mockingbird (@vuelva)

seeing this is the daily challenge, i just reread my earlier comment above and think it still is adequate (including that i have no inclination to try for more; very tough level; the extra ks are there but to get them… or is a better strategy available?). two minor additions:
– the reference in my comment was to tabflfka73 (the Angry Birds Free Level formerly known as VII-3) but currently the link is wrong: after the last update of Angry Birds Free the level is now known as 15-3 (to go there: the Angry Birds Free leaderboard is not directly available from the Leaderboards menu, but becomes so when clicking on Leaderboards). the point of the reference was that both my strategies for these levels make essential use of a defect of physics engines called tunneling (of helmets into stacks of stones to bring them down; so in principle available in all M&D levels). For those interested read my comments there for more, but anyway it doesn’t change the goal of the 1st bird, which simply is to bring the right tower completely down, be it with theater333’s original shot or the alternative one mentioned in wrw01’s later write-up.
– my reason for tagging the comment as a new strategy (making it appear blue) nonetheless was the alternative 2nd shot. i found it to be a tricky shot, and i was always taking the opportunity to practise it after a partially successful 1st in order not to miss it after a (rare) great 1st (cf. also karen68’s comment).

1st shot arc up into the gap landed just next to or on top of little piggie with only moderate destruction. It could have been 75k, but I really think it was around 71k.

2nd shot to front to try to land in front of the bottom pig, but I swear it landed on him & here comes the luck …. the debris to the left also took out the gem, but most importantly, the shovel flew up to the right & literally pierced a stone on the lower part of the upper tower causing it to collapse into the middle leaving an extra 10k for bonus. Initially it looked like the score would only be 113k-114k, but debris continued to fall into the middle racking up a few thousand points.

2nd to far fight upper tower & only a small stone was destroyed & the tower started to wobble, but then stopped. Suddenly a piece of debris from the explosion rained down, hit the tower & the wobble started again. A small smile appeared as the tower oh-so-slowly fell into the middle for another small improvement….so if you’re just trying to improve during this Challenge, anything is possible.

One tip that helped for me was to try to break each crystal.
What I did was aim the first Bomb through the flag and onto the big boulder at the left of the level. This should get rid of most of the first structure. (Note: you may not destroy the purple crystal at the extreme left of the level).
Get the second Bomb as close as you can to the second crystal and detonate. The second structure should collapse, ideally breaking the purple crystal in the crevice. It helps to be around 85 or 90K at this point (or 100K if all pigs have popped, obviously).
If the Corporal Pig is still intact, aim Matilda so that her egg breaks as much as it can in the crevice, and so that she hits near the bottom of his tower. He should topple into the crevice and break more stone.

It took me a few tries to perfect this strategy, and it still may not work 100% of the time. It’s not so good if you’re competing for the top spot in the leaderboard, but it can help you get 3 stars.

Hi all!
I improved 4k and reached 130k for today’s challenge. I used the general idea from several of the methods above, of destabilising the right tower with debris from hitting the left structure with the first bird.
I can’t see that anyone else did it exactly the way I did it, however, so here we go:
First bird straight to and through the top left ice block, and then hit the vertical wood block below and to the right of it. Detonate as it hits the wood. Hopefully debris, preferably the plank with the spade, hits right tower. Here is a screenshot showing my first shot:
Second bird should be either straight on to the big helmet pig or a high lob down to the right of it, depending on how things has fallen after first shot.
Here is a screenshot of my second shot:
As you see, my second shot could have done much better, so I believe this approach has higher potential.
During one attempt, I failed to notice that the big pig was about to pop after the first shot, so I took my time taking a screenshot. The pig popped and I got a one-birder scoring 124k. A good second shot then should have produced many more points, so I guess maybe more than 140k is possible.

reading that you had found a new strategy had to try it, but upon playing it quickly discovered that it was in fact not new; see karen68’s (and wrw01’s) comment for the 1st, and that and my own comment saying that for the 2nd instead of going straight (as you did; see wrw01’s comment) a high lob to the right of the pig (through helmet if needed and available) is more effective, in general. trying it again just now quickly got me 130k after a not so great 1st:
to get 140k+ it’s just :-) a matter of combining such an excellent 2nd with an excellent 100k+ 1st (as in your and my earlier attempt), not easy but feasible i think now! (btw on the angry birds scores website 130k+ 1-bird scores are listed; no strategy though).

yes, it’s a pity as the situation definitely had more potential (but there’s a risk: if you don’t get the roll back to the left the score will be lower). in fact the situation in your picture was the same as in my 130k attempt: the vertical stone on top had moved a bit to the left making the corner to the right of the pig directly reachable, without the need for the tricky roll back (going through a helmet), and in my case the bomb bird did get there directly.

I let it self detonate. This took out everything, all the way to the slingshot platform. In my screenshot, you can see the arc of the second shot and the absence of debris from the slingshot platform to the middle platform.
