    Pretty obvious the way this week is going just like last week my days of being competitive in the Arena are over, so so is my enjoyment. Stuck in 7th again and the top places already too far out of reach.

    edit: Are you freaking kidding me, I just had a rocket bounce all over the screen and never did it trigger. How low can they go to rig this game.

    @psygaz

    @heybert17 Like everything else the rockets have become mostly ineffectual, exploding in mid-air rather than into structures. That’s if they trigger at all – the only way to guarantee it is to do a direct hit.

    @sambeaver

    @heybert17 @psygaz Direct shoot with Chuck usually makes rocket explode instantly.

    @heybert17

    This was almost comical, it was a circus level so the rocket was bouncing off of structures, trampolines, everything until it finally flew off the screen. I lost track of how many things it hit without triggering.

    @heybert17 Yeah, i saw that phenomena several times too.

    Wow!!! The leader in my tournament just got demoted to 1 point. He is now in 14th place. I’ve heard about that happening but I’ve never seen it happen before. He didn’t look like a cheater. He is star ranked 86 with all lvl15 birds and a golden slingshot. He has 9 1st place wins. His name is bossy sparrow. He already had over 800 points.

    Arena has too many cheaters. I have 3 that were demoted from 2000+ points to 1 late last week. 2 of them are in the new arena tournament with me again this week. Seems that there’s a new cheater, rocketed to 500 points in less than 24 hours. Give me a break.

    @peany

    I’ve got one in my arena this week … Tweet … rocketed to first place now has 1 point LOL.

    heybert17
    @heybert17

    I have yet to get a demoted cheater in one of my Arenas, but until last week, except for when a player would come from nowhere, my Arenas have always been at least competitive, but now the last 2 weeks I am buried within the first few hours of the week.

    I think that the latest levels were designed by blind baboons. Also I have noticed more and more materials being attached to each other. Wood and stone falling but never coming apart. So not only are the birds weaker but the structures are even more reinforced. It is getting ridiculous.

    And I know I am not alone in this, but I am very tired of losing rounds because having to waste birds to kill micro pigs. I think micro pigs more than any of the issues with this game will finally drive me away.

    Note that sometimes, you will face opponents (like me) who have sat out for a week or two…. playing every “free entry” possible, and taking the accompanying extra entry ticket… but no more.

    They will also take a treasure chest every 15 minutes, EVERY 15 minutes, 15 hours a day.

    Two weeks later, they’ll have 100 free entry tickets, and 50+ of the three lowest spells, plus a pig inflater or two.

    Then they land in your arena the next week, ready to play. They’ll spend every ticket, playing round after round after round, and expending 3 spells per level on streaks above 2, in order to get a 7-streak and 500 feathers…. and 300+ stars per day in the process.

    In my experience, an entry ticket is worth about 9 stars, when you factor in future entry tickets, and if you’re willing to expend 12 spells per “7 streak” (2 each from level 3 on, 3 each to catch 6 and 7). Thus, if I start the week with 100 tickets and 50 each in the lower 3 spells, I expect to spend about 50 of those tickets, to earn about 450 stars. In addition, I’ll earn 12 free entries per day (6 on time, 6 on watching videos after), or another 84 tickets…. worth another 756 stars.

    I’ll earn over 1200 stars, and *still* have 50 more entry tickets in reserve if I need to spend a couple more to crush you and get the full 300 pearls and 200 gems for first place.

    In such weeks when I’ve saved up, I’ll often race out to a several hundred point lead the first day or two, in the hopes of discouraging others from even trying, leaving me to a walk (and perhaps, spending fewer tickets). Sometimes this backfires, as sometimes I’ll encounter another “me”, and I’ll have to decide if accepting second place is better than spending 50 or more tickets. Sometimes, I’ll take on such a character just out of spite, especially if their “medal” record indicates that they don’t take second place lightly (i.e. they have 19 golds, one silver and no bronze — I *love* handing such a player their second bronze).

    As to strategy, pieces nailed together, etc…. bring it on. I’ve long griped that the arena doesn’t have as much variance as it should. I often encounter the same sequence of rooms, several matches in a row. There are literally 700+ level available. Why must the arena focus on 20 or so each week? Make it about skill — make it about READING to room, looking for physics exploits, or for trouble spots where there are reinforcements (yes, they are there — if a piece stays connected, you missed the weld in the first place!).

    I pride myself on being good at reading a room and a series, and exploiting it with the birds available. I’d far rather be up against a random level, than one *everyone* has had weeks to master with that “perfect shot”, knowing that they need to “save” Matilda or Chuck for that “long” shot that they expect 2 levels down, because they recognize the sequence they are in and know that in a level or two, they’ll need them.

    Randomize the rooms in the arena (pick any of the levels from 200 and up), and you’ll find that it becomes far more a game of skill than a game of rote.

    I also have a player in my arena named Jose, whilst he never made 1st (that’s my position! lol) he was second or third, yet I wake up today and he now has a score of 1 down at the bottom of my list.

    Love it when cheaters get caught!

    Well said. I follow a very similar strategy. I take a week or two break and collect well over a 100 tickets. Then play hard for a week.

    I agree they need to mix up the rooms more instead of focusing on the same ones over and over.

    You didn’t mention bird useage strategy. Silver is great example. I almost never use silver the way she was intended. Jeers right then up then straight down. I use her to side swipe structures as she seems to tear through more effectively than straight down. Bomb appears to more explosive if you activate him as soon as he comes in contact with the structure spewing pieces to the right. Terrence works bestows down angle (someone mentioned this before).

    @david-martin

    Silver’s a girl? How did I never realize that?

    I love using Silver to undermine a structure and make it topple to the left on top of something below. I mostly use her downward swoop when there’s a pig stuck in a corner behind something indestructible that would be difficult or impossible to hit with a normal trajectory. (Though if I have Matilda, I’ll probably use her first.)

    Silver’s also handy when you need her to swoop upward to hit something just slightly too high for another bird to reach, though you have to time this exactly right.

    She also seems to make a bigger impact even when her ability is not used. In terms of sheer weight, she seems to be third heaviest after Terence and Bomb (just don’t say that to her face!) If there’s a pig floating on a tiny balloon with a stone structure a little ways behind it, I can usually count on Silver to pop the balloon and still break one of the stone bricks, even without the swoop. She’s come through in a pinch several times when I haven’t had Bomb available.

    It’s also incredibly fun to use Silver’s swoop to drop-kick a boss. I’ve KO’d several of them in a single hit this way.

    Overall, Silver’s probably the most versatile bird in the flock. I consider her a vastly improved successor to the unwieldy green boomerang bird from the first game.

    Okay, it is obvious some people take this game A LOT more serious than I do, to me it is just a time waster, I have no master plan. I play when I can sometimes a few times a day, sometimes once or twice.

    heybert17
    @heybert17

    Really, the same level back to back, get over 6 million and win streak 6 easily, streak 7, same level, birds stink so bad I can’t even get 2 million and lose because of the weak birds and a micro pig that took 4 birds to finally kill. Really losing all fun of this game.

    Pappybear
    @pappybear

    @david-martin

    LOL. ? Pretty sure “it” is a she. Maybe “it” is transgender. ?

    I forgot about using her on the upswing. Agree on the Boss kill shot. ?

    Micro piggies is about the only annoying thing left for me.

    @david-martin

    Hey, as long as Silver hits the Target, Silver can use whatever bathroom he/she/they/xe wants.

    heybert17
    @heybert17

    Are they running out of levels, I have gotten the same level 4 of the last 6 times, and while my opponent seems to be having no issues the damn structures are not collapsing with my weakling birds. 6 birds to clear room one while my opponent racks up over 2 million points.

    Psygaz
    @psygaz

    @heybert17
    I had that issue for the first time today. A stone structure that took four birds to bring down. Red had a really weak blast and bounced off it. Bomb only took the front half off, Terence stalled and finally Silver took it down.

    heybert17
    @heybert17

    @psygaz

    Yep, and I keep getting the same 3-4 levels over and over, and they are the worse designed levels of the recently added levels. really getting frustrated with the lack of “randomness” of the game.

    I wonder how Rovio is calculating when to denote a player as a ‘cheater’?

    They must be using some formula to estimate a maximum amount of possible points that can be attained in any given time period, and if a player exceeds that, they are marked off.

    Eg In my guess-timation each Arena round takes approximately 2 – 4 minutes to win. Let’s say the maximum score would have to be 10 stars. So all Rovio has to do is create a ‘sniffer’ that looks for scores which jump from x to y in the course of an hour (aka ~20 possible games per hour at 10 stars win each = 200 stars).

    In my travels I’ve definitely seen people’s scores go up that much in the matter of 30 min…

    ADBjester
    @adbjester

    Folks, there are not nearly as many cheaters as you might suspect.

    Scores that jump 200 in an hour happen ALL THE TIME, and it is NORMAL. When you look at these things with the eye of a programmer, you realize that, while YOUR star count is real-time to you, updates of your opponents’ star counts is done in batches to minimize inter-player communication and the load on the servers.

    In short, every action is reported to the server, but not every action is reported to the other 14 players in the arena. You will get “bulk updates”, and yes, it can look like an opponent jumped up a lot. Those 100+ stars weren’t magically inserted at all. They were built up over a series of legit-played games, the same way yours were.

    If *you* play 20 matches in an hour, then someone else is seeing YOUR score jump up by 150 stars, and they think YOU are the cheater. See how that works?

    And yes, I do know a little something about load-balancing game servers for hundreds of thousands of concurrent players, having worked in the online gaming industry for 12 years on a site of at least this scale, probably larger. Aggregation like that to minimize demand on servers is carefully considered, and frequently done.

    David Martin
    @david-martin

    @adbjester – I’m not a server admin myself, but I’ve worked with enough of them for what you’re saying to sound legit.

    If you know a little something about keeping a server up and running to begin with, then you probably know more than Rovio does. ;)

    ADBjester
    @adbjester

    I *finally* saw someone rolled back to one star. I was rolled back by 400+ stars myself, but this still left me in first place.

    I have my suspicions as to what happened, and it isn’t “cheating” so much as exploiting bugs.

    Yesterday, the player in question RACED past me by hundreds, so I did what I normally do — I started throwing my banked tickets at it and played many, many rounds.

    After a few rounds I noticed that when I’d choose three spells (not the most powerful two), my “spell count” would not go down the next time. It was as if I had an unlimited supply of spells. (Sometimes, it would deduct ONE, but not the other two, etc).

    I suspect that the player that was demoted to 1 star achieved *all* of his stars that way, resulting in his demotion, and that I was docked those stars I earned last night but left with the stars from Saturday and Sunday where my spells were deducted.

    I’d say this isn’t cheating so much as taking advantage of a bug… but the answer is for Rovio to fix the bug, rather than to spend time chasing down those exploiting it.

    Could somebody explain the arena to me. I just started playing AB2 the other week. When I tap on the arena and my opponent comes up, is that a real person? Or is it just random names and avatars Rovio created?

    What is the point of free entries after watching an ad when it’s just going to take away one of the entries that I have earned? I had 1 entry that I had earned. But I was given the option the watch an ad for a free entry. I used the free entry and won the battle. I went to enter again the entry I had earned before was gone.

    How the hell can my opponent accumulate over 350,000 points on the first room/stage whatever it’s called, when I cleared it with a strike and barely got 115,000 points?

    How can my opponent have zero birds left but have a points increase of 50,000+ after I shoot my last bird?
