Brand new intelligence report out of Finland!
Rovio has just posted a double-whammy of teaser info on their Facebook channel:
BEAKING NEWS: Red Bird will have a special power soon.
Well, that’s the first part of the “whammy”, and it’s pretty obvious. The more important second part is that, as the image suggests, the ninth episode of the original Angry Birds is coming soon!
Now, there’s some things to note and some things to ask:
- Foremost, no we don’t know when this update will land. It could be as early as this week, or as late as a few weeks from now. But it’s coming.
- Clearly, the episode’s sliver only has the star counter listed, but no score or feather counter. This is likely due to the beta version that Rovio has, and we probably shouldn’t think much of it. But since some people might mention it, I thought we should point out our powers of observation too. ;)
- Less clearly, here’s what I see when I zoom way in on the episode sliver. It looks to me Red is rushing towards his nest. If you squint you’ll also see Red in the background as well, but with some impressive speed blurs behind him. I’m guessing his power will be speed related. What exactly it will be, I haven’t the faintest idea. Maybe a tie-in with the recently announced Angry Birds Go?
- Our biggest question: Will the Red Bird’s new special power be episode-specific, or will it be retroactive to all 400+ levels of Angry Birds (ABo)? We can’t know for certain, but my guess is that it will be an episode-specific — or at least we hope so.

Update 26 June: Rovio announced today that the next episode of ABo will be called “Red’s Mighty Feathers” and will land in July! The 15-level episode will star the Red Bird himself — not clear whether his comrades will appear at any point to help out though. The announcement was made in Moscow’s Red Square, where Mighty Eagle Peter Vesterbacka spoke to local graduates on Sunday.

I think it introduces the Tournament because there is a pig on a pink balloon just like in Angry Birds Friends

To me,its not a pig with a balloon at all.To me,the name of the episode is called Angry Birds Go.OR may be a tie-in with Angry Birds Go like AMslimfordy said.
I think the power is only for episode 9 or higher.
A power-up item is the opposite, but I think that it is not bad like ABSW if you should start it again from a beginning.

I think they’re advertising AB Go with this chapter, like they did for Bad Piggies.
If so then, they are not going to release this update before Angry Birds Go , because Bad Piggies chapter had come out after release of Bad Piggies game. :D
Well, the game says it’ll bring you closer to Piggy Island than ever, and the background looks a lot like that. But you have a good point.
Those blurred Reds in the BG could suggest Red would have a speed boost as power but not as powerful as Yellow’s.

Hi @Fleshyskeleton! LTNS. Red Bird announcement should be today in Red Square! You’ve been nominated for the avatar contest, but right now I can’t see the wall.
Actually there are many programs to unblur image but it only natural blur, not synthetic.
They’re making a “big announcement” somehow concerning Red Bird in Moscow today. Peter Vesterbacka is repeatedly mentioning #redbird on Twitter, and the whole event is decorated with Red Bird paraphernalia. I think they’ll be telling us his new power!
Think it might be happening right now, since Vesterbacka stopped tweeting.

I think Red’s power will be like the one in Slingshot 101. But what does it do especifically?
May be similar to Bad piggies (game) and bad piggies (episode), this will be Angry Birds Go (game) and Angry Birds Go (episode). And I hope the “red bird power” is episode specific or else there’s a likely chance for confusion.
I’d like if new episode were kind of Angry Birds GO introduction.

Why Rovio you are really a master of teasing us with updates like this! Hm……..my guess would be that Red has a power to break through blocks, something like Terence. Also, I really enjoy how Rovio has broke the news here, and the video. I love that interpretation of the original song…
Also, I agree that the fact that the update was not announced ON the event in Moscow, but rather AFTER the event is disappointing…again, it’s not easy hosting such a big event in the heart of Red Square, so kudos to Rovio!
