Angry Birds Star Wars Hoth level 3-27 may be one of the hardest levels to date, but we have a repeatable strategy to offer you! Fling Chewie north of the initial planet, so that the projected trajectory is outside of, but still affected by, the gravitational field. The large asteroid should crush two of the three wooden structures. Aim Han so he will pop the pig on the right side of the initial planet, and fire his laser such that the western pig, the two TIE Fighters, and the stray eastern pig all get blasted! Not an easy shot, to say the least, but it’s doable. The score in the video below is 76,700.

77,010 as in video. It is important to knock all three pieces of the big boulder into their planets to get it out of the way for the second shot.
77,660 using the approach above. You must push all of the big asteroid (as mentioned above) pieces into planets.
Target the second bird to the middle of the storm trooper and fire so first shot does go through planet’s atmosphere.
The new levels certainly have some significant bugs. Before coming here, the suggested strategy was what I had been trying over and over. There was one time that I saw the last laser blast head for and hit the far pig … and nothing happened. I have had other times that I can hear the laser blasts but no lasers appear. And with Leia, I have had times where I can hear her gravitational pull but no beams occur. I’m still trying for 3* on this level. Frustrating, especially with the bugs, but I’m still happy to have new levels.
I should note I am playing on an Android device (Samsung Infuse).
I don’t think any of these are bugs really. Or at least they can be attributed to normal gameplay.
1) There’s a small block just south of the north pig. It will occasionally block the laser from reaching the pig. I’ve seen it happen a few times.
2) If you are very close to an object, it may absorb all three laser blasts from Han. This happens especially with stone/medal.
3) If your aim Leia’s tractor beam such that there’s nothing for it to grab, then it grabs nothing.
Note that this is probably the most difficult level in this update, even knowing the “proper” strategy.
I watched the laser blast miss the wooden block and hit the pig dead on. When nothing happened I restarted the level and looked to see if he was wearing a helmet I might have not noticed, thinking maybe the helmet had deflected or affected the shot. The “missing” laser shots have happened on this and several other levels. On this level, when I was entering the grav field and fired at the metal deflector, there was nothing to absorb the lasers and I could hear the 3 laser blasts but saw no blasts. With Leia, I was playing Level 36 and right after I fired her from the slingshot, I aimed at the bottom of the nearest tower (which I found after a while was the wrong strategy) and I could hear the humming of the tractor beam but no beams. If you tap on nothing, you still see a single tractor beam and a quick hum.
@AMslimfordy, I don’t know if you’d call this a “bug”, but when I shoot Hans he gets everything and his last deflected laser blast always hits the upper right pig dead on but he just won’t die. I have to use Luke to push the asteroid left of the pig to kill him, but then my score suffers.
And it keeps happening time after time, I’m really starting to ABHOR this particular level.
Yeah, I’ve been through the same here. Calling it a mere annoyance is putting it far too mildly, but at least it’s in the can. I may never get above the average on this level, but I might try again in about a year….
I’m glad it’s not just me, I’ve seen bullets hit the pigs and not do anything to them on this level too! I really struggled with this level and I saw that pig on the far right get hit many times, but unlike in the video, he didn’t even need a bandaid :-O. I tried with the alternative method outlined below and the first few times I saw the bullets go straight through that last flying pig on the left! I thought I was never going to get it done but I finally did achieve 3 stars with the alternative strategy, yay :-D. Just jedi level 15 to do and that’s 3 stars on all levels, including the bonus, for me :-D. I’m wasting my life, lol ;-).
Ditto! Driving me crazy.
About the laser bolts seemingly hitting the pigs but inflicting no damage: the bolts are apparently intercepted by the debris from a nearby exploding fighter.
You can’t see all the details through the fireball of the explosion, but you know that every exploding fighter leaves two big chunks of debris, the wings (or winglike appendages – you can’t really use wings in space). These parts pack a good amount of inertia, and they explode easily. Their trajectories are also quite predictable. (I often take advantage of these facts on this level by using the right wing of the top fighter to push the top asteroid into the top planet.)
The bottom fighter, if you hit it first with a direct shot, tends to leave its right wing spinning in front of the right fighter, blocking the shots reflected back from the big mirror. To avoid this shielding effect, I usually try to miss the bottom fighter with my first laser bolt.
Another strategy that can also work is to shoot Chewie to the north gravity field to take out the top right pig. Chewie should also push the asteroids to destroy the pig in the far right and he should fall down to the planet below to take out that pig.
Next aim Han to collide with the top OINK fighter and shoot his blaster so that it destroys the pig on the left, bounces off the metal below the planet and then destroys the other OINK fighter. A piece of asteroid should then collide with the structure where the top pig is finishing him off.
Thanks – finally managed it this way. Tough level.
Wow! This level was brutal! I tried all the strategies, but the BirdBrain/rab strategy was successful–on about the tenth try. Thanks.
The BirdBrain’s strategy worked for me, and I found a couple of refinements to make getting 3 stars not so difficult.
1. On the first shot, aim Chewy so the curved trajectory leads to the red dot on the ear of the top right pig. The split asteroid and Chewy himself will dependably kill the middle and bottom pigs on the far right.
2. Aim Han at the uppermost asteroid beyond the top Oink fighter. This rotating asteroid has a relative flat light side and a convex dark side. Wait till you can aim at the middle of the dark side and fire Han on a line just outside the gravitational field. (Don’t worry about the Oink fighter–you’ll hit him regardless.) This shot will usually push the asteriod into the top right structure and kill the pig.
3. Just before contact with the upper Oink fighter, fire Han’s blaster
at the right side of the metal below the planet so that it caroms and kills both Oink fighters and may get the upper-right pig if the asteroid doesn’t do the job.
Best score: 79,550.
My strategy is similar as @TheBirdBrain‘s and @rab’s, except I aim the second shot well above the top Oink fighter. I fire the lasers through the top fighter (taking out all 3 fighters as well as the trooper on the small pedestal. Being farther away, it’s easier to get the angle of the laser just right.
As the top Oink fighter explodes, one of the pieces has a good chance of hitting the top asteroid and pushing it into the top right trooper.
@rab5 – Thank you! Perfect directions. After countless tries with orig method I got 3* on the second try with yours!
My strategy is similar to yours, @TheBirdBrain. Got 76K+ really quickly but then, impossible to repeat neither to improve! Guess i need a little more practice and some patience… ;-)
I was so frustrating with my precious score that i came back and played again on that level ! So now i have FINALLY got a good one, thousand thanks to @thebirdbrain and @mysteryproducer strategy, and also to @rab for his really helpfull tips. I can go to sleep now… :-)
Wow, very, very good strategy @amslimfordy and excellent write-up @birdleader:)
Would have taken me an eon to figure that one out, very well done!:)!
Gosh, this was hard. I will be happy to have the 3*, and maybe see later if i can improve the score. Maybe.
I’ve had pretty good results sending Chewie counterclockwise around the initial planet between the bottom 2 tie fighters and the small black rock adjacent to that planet. This sends the large asteroid down to the 2 structures at the top right and also gets the pig trooper on the far side of the initial planet. Score typically around 29k, with all 3 tie fighters, the pig trooper on the near side of the initial planet, and the trooper in the structure at the bottom right still left. I send Han clockwise around the initial planet, aimed so that he will land on the bottom right trooper, and entering the gravitational field at about 10:30, underneath the top tie fighter. When Han gets to about 2:30, I fire at the floating piece of metal. Direct hits take out the bottom two tie fighters and with luck ricochets will take out the trooper on the left and the top tie fighter. Best score so far is 78,200.
Thank you @hallieginsb ! I tried video method and couldn’t get above average score . Thanks to your brilliant strategy I managed to score 77240 almost right away.
@aleksch Yay! So glad this strat worked for you!
Great strat.! I worked and worked, on my own, to finally get three stars using the video method. I achieved above avg. in a short time using your advice. Funny I tried something like this but never could make it work. Thank you!
Thanks so much for this method, worked on third try.
Glad to see this strat is working well for others. It is a good way to get scores in the 77-78k range. However, I got my best score so far of 81k using the @mysteryproducer strat below.
Thank you @hallieginsb. I just couldn’t get the video strat to work but got 77k with your well-described method. Thanks for sharin
Thanks so much for this method. Got 3 stars with the first try.
Could not do it by other ways after a few hundred times. I think this is a bit easier than other method.
wow, brilliant. 76k on first try (after an hour trying the other way). Thanks so much!
Thankyouthankyouthankyou. Obi-wan, you were my only hope.
Excellent strategy @hallieginsb! It took a while to find out the strategy’s meaning, but when I got it, all of the shots afterwards eventually gave me a 78k score! Thanks! :D
@hallieginsb you’re an absolute genius and should have your strat become the Official Walkthrough Method.
I had been plunking away at this level using the video as a guide for the past 18 hours and could not kill the stupid pig on the top right side no matter how many times I tried.
Thankfully I came across a post by kartflyer in which he lauds your method as excellent but hard to interpret, I must also be honest with you as I too found it difficult to interpret, but once the bulb in my head illuminated, your strat became perfectly clear.
Suffice it to say that it only took me 3 attempts using your method to finally kick this level’s a.. Thank you very very much. Happy Hunting!
@werewolf69 and @kartflyer This strat is becoming my claim to ABN fame! I’m glad you both could figure it out – a video would make it so much easier to follow, if I only had that capability. Congrats on your great scores, and if you aren’t completely sick of this level, give mysteryproducer’s strat a try.
Actually, @hallieginsb I’m quite content with the score I have on this level, and as Rovio’s my witness, I never want to set foot on this sado-masochistic level ever again. Happy Hunting!
ps. Why don’t you ask dollarbill2208 how he got his program for video recording of levels being played.
This strategy was so much easier!! Got it my second try!! Thanks!!
Thanks I must have tried a million times like the video, and got it your way after 5 tries! 77220
THIS WAS IT!! THIS WAS THE ONE!! Thank you, @HallieGinSB! I’d been stuck at 72,050 FOREVVVEEERRRRR. Got 3 stars at 76020. Love youuuuuu!
@concretebrunette glad this strat worked for you and thanks for the exuberant response. If my ex had reacted to this strat the same way, we might still be together! ;)
Haha! Know what you mean.
@HallieGinSB – you deserve all the accolades for your strategy on this level. This was my last level to three-star in Hoth and although I barely cleared the three-star minimum I am happy to leave this this one. Thank you for such a clearly written strategy!
@mg516 thanks for the kind words and congratulations on mastering the Hoth levels!
My approach was similar to @thebirdbrain‘s, except that Chewie should just clip the planet (the leftmost planet) next to the pig. This slows Chewie down a bit so that the big asteroid only just splits, sending one chunk into the bottom-left pig, and one into the bottom-right pig. Han goes above the same gravity field, as close as possible.
@mysteryproducer this is a great strat! The key is to get the asteroid chunks to hit both structures as you describe. The second shot goes through the top tie fighter with Han firing to take out the left trooper with shots ricocheting off the floating metal to get the bottom two tie fighters. Shrapnel from the top tie fighter knocks the top small asteroid into the last pig and structure at the top right. Lots of destruction points with this strat!
Big thanks to you guys for the well thought out strategy.
@mysteryproducer excellent strat!
I’ve made a video of @mysteryproducer strategy for 81,140 if anyone is interested :
http://youtu.be/1uPTQv21yVk
@crazy-rider thanks for the video!! Great help! @mysteryproducer and @hallieginsb thanks for the strats and help!! :D
http://angrybir.de/ZjSBJi
@crazy-rider ‘s vid is a better example but here’s a screenshot of the same aftermath
http://angrybir.de/ZjSMEm
Thanks for the video @crazy-rider :) it helped me improve a bit..but still stuck in 78k land!! Can’t seem to to break it:( now with your video i will keep trying:)
And great thanks to @mysteryproducer :) and also @ hallieginsb also a great strat:)
Great job everyone and congrats on the underdogs ..nice one halliesginsb ..last minute lady luck and a lot of fast flinging..good job:)
@mysteryproducer wonderful strat. Feels like I threw a thousand birds at this one with almost the same score every time. The difference was in the 1st shot, the boulder that drops to the lower structure destroyed the whole thing instead of leaving part of it standing, giving me over 28k.
Here’s the screenshot – @AMslimfordy
http://angrybir.de/12YqsvJ
77100 as in video. It was hard to do, but it warking!
I got my best scores with @thebirdbrain and @mysteryproducer strategy. Thanks for the ideas ;-) Here’s a few tips that helped me:
I had best results when I lined Chewy’s dots to hit right at the first planet’s top Trooper pig on his “eyebrowl” line, between his cheek and the red thing below his ear. This allows for Chewy to hit the big asteroid on the right spot so that it splits and one piece goes to the right planet and another piece, along with Chewy, goes to the bottom planet as described above. You definately want one of the asteroid pieces to hit the bottom so that your score after first bird will be between 26K+ to 27K+…if only Chewy hits the bottom, you won’t get much over 24K.
For the second bird, I aimed Han at the very bottom of the floating tie-fighter…it sways back and forth and you just need to graze it’s “wing” sticks. Once Han reaches the tie-fighter, aimed his lazers to cut through the left Trooper pig and richochet off the metal piece down below. I had better luck aiming more towards the left to middle on the concrete. Sometimes the richocheting lazers reach the top right pig but more often the very top asteroid gets bumped in to take that one out. The tie fighter debris usually makes it up that way too but you get better damage when the asteroid takes him out which for me is way more consistant then the tie-fighter debris.
Forgot to mention a “Thank You” to @hallieginsb too for her added details on the second shot ;-)))
@lesleyg this is a fun strat, huh!? Great score and nice pointers on both shots. On the first shot, I also found that if I did a softer launch (not a hard pull-back), Chewie was more likely to break the asteroid the way we want it and still drop down to the bottom planet.
Fabulous!! I was doing this strat but when I came to the WT I read your comments and the aiming tips and was able to even better!! Thank you lesleyg and hallieginsb you two are awesome!!! :)
Thanks @AngryAdvisor! I was able to improve my score by over 2k!
Some more details or another description of higher written. For Chewy – on my smartphone aiming line was over red dot and below black hole of ear of Trooper (2:10).
Extra observation which works well for me is to not full but middle tension of the slingshot. Just to see a line at Trooper ear area but not longer. It’s harder to adjust but scores highly repetable.
I’m not mastered the 2-nd part (yet :) but first shoot must be before this which goes trought the left side Trooper (9:30). Before Han start I’m calculatng flat pass under swinging Trooper and observe rotating asteroid to hit. I need more time to analise this part. To be continued…
This was the strategy that worked for me!
I got 78,290 by sending chewie the opposite way round the first planet and taking out the two ties.
Han should be used as per the walk through. If everything goes to plan a piece of the damaged remaining tie should nudge the asteroid towards the second planet.
@birdleader–
I think you forgot to tell that lasers must bounce off the metal joint, hitting the pesky top pig, which is almost unreachable with rocks.Anyway, with the lasers successfully reaching target,I got 80190
The force is just not with me on this level. I’ve managed to destroy both of the fighters with the second shot just once in hundred’s of attempts. I’ll be very happy when I finally three star this level.
74360 using the method posted by @hallieginsb so it’s only a matter of time now (I hope!). :)
@jtb you are so close! You’ll get it soon, I’m sure.
@hallieginsb Finally got it last night using your strategy!!! 77,160 followed by 77990. Now if I could only get past the average score… At least I know it’s possible! LOL
Looks to me like you already are past the average score! The point spread between the 3-star minimum and the high score on this level is so narrow, staying above average may be a challenge, though. Fingers crossed!
There are so many of us aiming to be above average in our scores, I am often reminded of Garrison Keillor’s Lake Wobegone, “where … all the children are above average.” Hope that’s true for us. ;)
Yeah, the point spread isn’t much. My posted score of 77,760 is the correct one (the 77,990 was my score for 3-28). Hopefully 600 or so better than average will last for a least a little while. At one point I was better than average for all my scores. Thy started releasing so many new levels that I couldn’t keep up so I have a LOT of playing to do! What a horrible, horrible problem to have, huh? LOL
I just played this level again, and there was a blue object on the bottom right side of the screen. It wasn’t there before and I shot it. It came on the screen almost like a golden egg but nothing happened afterward. Does anyone know what that was?
Post has been updated with the answer.
i got 76150 by shooting the first bird under the first plant. when he hits the rock it will kill the pig on the west side. the rock then kill the two on the far right. i shoot the second bird though the atmosphere of the first planet and where he is sling shot strait to the pig on the bottom. i then shoot though two tie fighter and bounce the shot into to other two. i think this might be easier than the other way.
Finally 75530 as shown how to in video . I really was going to give up & kept telling myself this is it – my last try if I don’t get it I’ll settle for 71000 and 2 stars. But I’m stubborn. I won’t try for a higher score :-) this indeed was the toughest level at least for me. That second shot has to be dead on. I wonder when the last challenge page will open in Cloud city.. .message says coming soon. Wonder what it will take to open it!
Using same strategy as everyone. Guess I finally found some luck. LOL. Screenshot in album.
@gambit040706 – Which same strategy as everyone? There are three or four strategies listed above.
@burbman – guess I should pay more attention….I went clockwise with the first shot. I did back off a little though….no dots past the first “ear”. I aimed slightly above and shot. Second shot thru the fighter shooting down at refector. Only took a lttile over a thousand of the same shot to finally get a decent score.
This level is a real booger. After playing an hour last night and all day today, I finally chipped my score up by nearly 1 whole k. It is really hard to get Chewy to skip off the planet into the rock formation just right. Congrats to @karen68 and @gambit040706 for the UD badge! Still a little bit of time left on the challenge for today so I’ll keep on flinging a bit longer, but I am pleased I finally raised my score on 3-27 just a little. @mysteryproducer, @lesleyG and @thebirdbrain have the right strategy to get higher points – along with a bit of super luck of course. I’m getting a magnifying glass for closer view when I’m playing! My old eyesight makes it harder to get the right spot playing on an iPhone.
Thanks to @crazy-rider too for posting a great video of the winning strategy!
Darn it all! I got 82130!!!! I went to enter score just as the challenge refreshed. I can’t go check properties for time on screenshot until tomorrow now. If my image shows at 10 pm Eastern or sooner can i still get the badge? Pretty please @amslimfordy? I’d be crying in my beer right now if I had one …
Same strat as I posted above. I had over 29k with chewie destruction.
I couldn’t sleep…had to come back down on computer to check the image properties. I snapped the shot I just posted in my album at exactly 2200 (10pm Eastern / 7pm Pacific)…will that count?
Oh my God, @gypsybird looks like you got your score at the last moment of the challenge! I like your screenshot with the last bird still counting and your phone ringing. :) Please @amslimfordy take a look at the evidence in GypsyBird’s album. I think she did it fair and square, and deserves the underdog badge.
Thanks @annach! I appreciate the support! I was so excited when I realized I hit just a little over the original top score before the challenge! This is a very difficult and challenging level to raise scores on. PS – my phone wasn’t ringing, I just grabbed for the two buttons needed with my shaky hand to take a screenshot and I accidentally grabbed the volume button too!
I’ll allow it, just cuz you’re awesome @gypsybird :)
Oh Thank you @amslimfordy! I’ve been working on getting an Underdog badge for soooo long! I’m thrilled! Been close a few times but it kept eluding me. Thanks so much!
Favorite underdog success story EVER! Congrats, @gypsybird
Thanks @catsnbirds! I can’t believe how excited I got over hitting that score on 3-27. I felt like a little kid again! WooHoo!
tried everyone’s different strats, get above 72,300
Although not a big points-earner, an alternate 3-star strategy: first step same as video, goal to destroy bottom structure and the lower of the 2 structured. Second step: under the planet, angled to push Han into remaining asteroid chunk down to remaining uppermost structure. Fire through the bow-ties so laser fire bounces off the metal to take out the left pig. Hans falls, taking out right pig.
AARGH! Ditto for “may be one of the hardest levels to date”.
I tried everything, including standing on my head while spitting nickels. (they leave a nasty taste after a while, too.) Chewie’s part became a snap, but Han’s drove me to… well yoga. My crux of the matter: the screen pans to the right, following Han’s flight path. My aim finger couldn’t shift smoothly or accurately enough. (and yes I also tried zooming out, which made accuracy worse)
Eventually all that blood rushing through my noggin payed off. Following a red-out and 20 minutes of unconsciousness a fresh idea occurred: my Aluratek AT197F Android tablet has a 9.7″ display. I vaguely recalled some of the developer options in the control panel.
WINDOW ANIMATION SCALE – the default is “1”. Resetting it to “2” solved the problem- I 3-Starred the level, first try! ;-)
I can hardly wait to try this for other levels that kicked my tail, took hours of “try and try again” and at times made my compulsive nature a curse.
My understanding of 4.X Android tablets and phones in general, suggests similar ANIMATION SCALE choices for most devices are available. If you have a 7″ or smaller display, the benefit should be more even more positive. This did not require “rooting” by the way.
Bon Chance!
Seems to be much more achievable then the video strategy. I had to use a 4 mm stylus to get the aiming point correct for the second bird (I have very large hands) but once I switched to that it took me three tries. Thanks!
83540 Chewie counterclockwise 90% spped, aiming line an earswidth above and upto ear of stormpig. Just shy of 30k after first bird. Second bird as everyone else.
Damage after 2nd bird: 3-27_after_2nd.jpeg
Score: 3-27_83540.jpeg
After some more tries while tweaking speed and trajectory, 30180 after first bird, 84240 after 2.
3-27_84240.jpeg
