Since it’s release on iOS devices the Mighty Eagle has been shrouded with mystery. This article and Q&A aims to clear up some of that confusion.
So, what exactly is the Mighty Eagle? Put simply, the Mighty Eagle is an in-app purchase that can help you pass a level. Â But that is not all. Â It also adds a new dimension to Angry Birds — in a way it’s a game inside the game (more on that later).

Important Disclaimer
Foremost, the Mighty Eagle is a separate in-app purchase for each app. In the original Angry Birds, Seasons, and Rio, a 1-time purchase will gain unlimited use, per the Q&A that appears below. In Space and Star Wars, “Mighty usage” is a consumable IAP and subject to different pricing. The Q&A below is not 100% accurate for these “consumable Mighties”, and you should refer to our Classroom Lessons for additional references and details.
Questions and Answers.
After purchasing the Mighty Eagle you can to use it to pass a level once per hour, or, if you’ve already passed a level you can use it as often as you like.  Using it will not yield any stars or points, but rather it calculates a percentage of destruction, with 100% destruction being Total Destruction.  When you do receive Total Destruction on a given level you will receive a feather.  Ultimately your goal is to obtain a feather on every single level of the game.  On some levels this is NOT an easy task.  Fortunately we have some video walkthroughs available for the most challenging levels.
Okay, so how does it work from within the game? After you purchase the Mighty Eagle you have to activate it from within a particular level. Â This is simply done by tapping the eagle eye icon that appears next to the pause button on every level. It’s important to note that you can then use it in conjunction with your other birds (actually, on many levels you can’t receive Total Destruction without using them together).
After you activate the Mighty Eagle your slingshot is loaded with a can of sardines. You then hurl the can towards the piggies mocking you on the other side. After which, you wait a couple seconds…then…BLAMOH! T he Mighty Eagle drops out of the sky and smashes everything. At that point your destruction is calculated based on the damage sustained. How much destruction really depends on how strategically you place you can of sardines, use of your other birds, and on some levels bit of luck. After you’ve used the Mighty Eagle the level selection icons display an eagle graphic to signify he’s been used.
That’s pretty much it. Â We’ll use the Q & A section below to answers some of the more common questions we receive. Â A big thanks to Rovio for chiming in on some of them.
- Q. What devices currently support the Mighty Eagle?
- A. Right now the Mighty Eagle is only available to purchase on iOS devices (ipad, iPhone, and iPod Touch). NOOK Color owners can access the Mighty Eagle from with Barnes & Noble, but there currently is no option to purchase. Rovio has stated many times that expects the Mighty Eagle will eventually land on most devices and come to different versions of the game (like Angry Birds Seasons).
Update: This list has since been expanded. See the full list above. - Q. I am having a hard time passing a level. Do you have Mighty Eagle walkthroughs available?
- A. Yes, we have many video walkthroughs for some of the most challenging levels.
- Q. Will this yield 3 stars every time?
- A. Per Rovio, “Using the Eagle doesn’t give you any stars, but the scoring goes into the Eagle mode. The destruction is calculated in percentages, and getting a 100% Total Destruction awards you with an eagle feather for that level. This gives you a reason to revisit all the old levels again, even if you’ve got three stars on all of them. So, when skipping a level with the Eagle, you still have to come back and earn the three stars in the regular fashion.”
- Q. How will affect leaderboards? It seems kind of unfair to rank these people higher than those who passed the level without the Mighty Eagle.
- A. Per Rovio via Tweet, “No effect on leaderboards”. Per Rovio, via comments below, “The Mighty Eagle can be used with the regular set of birds, and this might be required to maximize your Eagle score in some levels (or, first destroy some difficult-to-reach blocks with the regular birds before launching the final blast with the Eagle.”
- Q. Does this incentive Rovio to make the upcoming levels harder, if not almost impossible?
- A. No. Â This question was asked before the Mighty Eagle was really understood. Since it’s not supported on all devices this just wouldn’t make since. Â Also, as we’ve shown above, the Mighty Eagle is like a game within the game, so there is no affect on the normal game play.
- Q. How much will it cost?
- A. “The price point is $0.99/£0.59/€0.79” per app.
- Q. What do you get when you purchase the Mighty Eagle?
- A. The Mighty Eagle comes with two features:
1. It allows you to skip a level in the event you’re stuck and just want to move on.
2. Â It’s basically a new “mini-game” where your goal is to obtain feathers by receiving Total Destruction. - Q. Is it a single use item or do you only have to purchase it once?
- A. You only have to purchase it ONCE per app. Per Rovio, “The Eagle is NOT one use only, but it ‘recharges’ for a time before it can be used to skip a level again. However, the Eagle can be used repeatedly in any level you’ve already managed to unlock.”

Yes. Red bird to far side and then yellow bird slice through middle horizontally. Chicken drops egg on rock boulders and then drop sardines to bottom. M E should then destroy everything. I have 204 feathers. Still waiting on explanation concerning 6,4. Good luck!
I read on another web site that the only way to get 100% on 6-4 is to beat it with the ME before you unlock the boomerang bird. 6-4 is the level where the boomerang bird is locked in the cage the first time you play the level. Once you free the bird from the cage, the bird and the cage are never there again. Apparently some people have been able to get 100% by destroying everything (including the cage) with the ME, but this is impossible if you’re playing in ME mode after you’ve already unlocked the green bird. This sounds like a glitch that hopefully will be fixed with an update soon. I’m at 209 feathers and would like to be able to get the 6-4 feather as well.

Are you sure you counted right? I have completed all the games and gotten 3 stars & a feather & I only counted 204 with the exception of the 6,4 game.

Okay, thanks for the explaination. Seems to be plausible. You can only get 80% once the cage is not there any more, cos the cage counts 20%. Hope this bug will be fixed soon.
Either they have to turn our 80% into 100%, or the cage must stay there even if the boomerang was locked.
I also have 209 feathers-all but level 6-4, which I have 80% on, however under the achievements, it won’t give me the “200 feathers” achievement. Perhaps the developers should have tried out this game before releasing it. I smell a need for quick Christmas revenue…
Please help someone !!!! I have 3 stars every level 204 feathers. I am stuck on 9-11 9-4 11-10 12-7 12-15 and of course 6-4 ! How do I get 100% with that chuffing eagle ???

I got 100% on 12-15 by simply working left to right. Start at far left with first bird, and just work your way over. That leaves a lot of work for the ME to do, but he is up to it.

I really wish I would have found this site earlier. That would have kept me from being so anti-social during the holidays, trying to beat 6-4. All levels 3* and feathers EXCEPT 6-4 (82% is the highest I’ve gotten). Now that I know it’s a glitch, I’ll wait it out.
I only have 2 levels left to get 100% with the eagle ! One is 6-4 which there is a problem judging by the feedback. I really need some help on 12 – 7 Please if you have any hints let me know !!!!
If I remember correctly, you hit the edge of the wood extended to left with pig in Stetson and hopefully it smashes and drops half the building , use chicken to destroy rest of building and debris from that hits TNT boxes and blows up. If needed, the cardinal will slice off cord of bolder and hit TNT and blow. Lightly toss sardines to first rock and ME will destroy what is left in the way. Good luck!

Im stuck on 9-9, 4-2 and 5-13. Tried a few thigns suggested here but no joy, really bugging me now. Love Angry Birds though.

4-2 and 6-4 left for me too! They’ve been driving me potty.
4-2 I suspect is just very, very tricky as I’ve managed to get 98%. I’ll just try to keep working on it, though it’s annoying me now.
6-4 is another problem entirely. I’ve destroyed all but about three blocks and I’ve only got 80%! That can’t be right. Thankfully I found this page and it looks like what I suspected; a glitch. Hopefully sorted in an update soon.
Any help with 4-2, 9-9, 10-9, 10.14 or 11-5 would be much appreciated :)
4-2 was my hard one, first blue bird first pilars, they will fall, use second same spot and try and finish them off, yellow bird left corner of the ice block, and follow with sardine can in same spot, it took me about 60 times, it has to be perfect.
That’s exactly how I’ve been doing it. Good to know I’m at least on the right track.
It is frustratingly difficult though. I’ve been at it hours and even on those rare, practically perfect goes I still only get 96-98%. It feels like the birds are wrong maybe – the second bird shouldn’t be a blue one, it makes destroying the wood that much harder.
I hit 99% so many times, try and launch the eagle while the yellow bird is still on the screen, it will usually throw the yellow bird to help knock stuff out.
Finally got it. That one took a stupid amount of time compared to the others, but it’s done now.
Now, about that bloody 6-4…..
i’m pretty sure this yellow bird (and any remaining blue birds) is the secret to total destruction on 4-2.
I’ve played 4-2 hundreds and hundreds of times, it was my last one (other than 6-4 of course) for the longest time, and have finally found a relatively consistent way to do it (I’ve done it multiple times this way since with about 10% success rate after figuring it out, which aint bad for this level!)
As you may know the mighty eagle doesn’t destroy other birds you shoot, but rather shoots them at high velocity around the level if they don’t happen to disappear before the mighty eagle lands and collides w/ them. This is the key to this level.
I’d been trying how to exploit this aspect on this level but it’s extremely hard to do it effectively. Until now!
Firstly 2 blue birds, as others have mentioned just use them to take out first pillar on left side. Now The important one is the yellow one. I couldn’t figure out how to get it in the right spot w/o it disappearing before eagle landed to be able to use it to take out the right side effectively.
After taking out the pillar on the left with the blue birds, shoot the yellow bird as close to straight up as you can, and immediately tap again to launch it waaay up in the air. Then, quickly activate and launch the eagle tuna can so it lands on the floor of the level in between the left “stair case” and the main island in the middle. (Basically same trajectory as the blue birds, but since you took out the pillar it will fall to the ground there, or hit the rock on the left side and fall to the spot)
Shortly after you shoot the tuna can at the sweet spot above mentioned, the yellow bird will finally land, IDEALLY in the same spot as the tuna can (you want them to be basically touching each other at that spot). Then, cross your fingers and hope the yellow bird gets launched properly by the mighty eagle and effectively take out the right side staircase. And congrats on your last feather!
This isn’t a fool proof 100% destruction every time, but as I said I’ve had better success with this method than any other.

6-4 Has to have a glitch, best I have done is 81% and nothing was left on the screen. 209 feathers 630 total stars and 18 golden eggs, 16,614,520 total score..

I have an iPhone 4 and the software is up to date. I purchased the Mighty Eagle and have never been able to use it. Any time I try (either by tapping the eagle eye on the menu or on a certain level) it just hangs and never loads. It just shows that spinning circle and won’t stop until I force the app closed. My husband and I share an iTunes account and he can use the eagle on his iPhone. It’s just frustrating. :( Has anyone else run into this???

No, I have not deleted it and re-added it. I was too scared that it would make me lose all my scores that I worked so hard for!! My husband assured me that it would be fine because the gamecenter should keep the scores with your login. He deleted his game and re-added it last night and he now has to start all over again because it did, indeed, delete all of his scores.

Are you connected to wi-fi when trying to use the ME? Just a shot in the dark.
Yep, I am connected to wi-fi when trying to use ME. My husband had to restore his iPhone to his last sync to get most of his scores back. I’m just not willing to risk losing the scores. I switched from Android to iPhone and had to start them all over again then and so don’t want to do that again!!
That is disappointing that they don’t get back to people in a timely manner. I haven’t heard from them either, btw.
I’m having the same problem and e-mailed support@rovio last week and haven’t heard back from them. I also don’t want to delete the app and lose all my accomplishments, etc. Is there a way to delete the app without losing scores, accomplishments, etc.?

I recently was having some trouble (could not even purchase ME). Problem was that my iPod Touch would not connect to WiFi. Finally I decided to sync everything, then go on iTunes main menu for Device and click “Restore.” It wipes the iPod, downloads the most recent software, and reinstalls it. You have to reload all of your music, apps, and other content by sync. But none of my scores or achievements in any game (including AB) were affected. Now everything works perfectly.
I just heard back from Rovio this morning and here is what the email said:
Please make sure that you have in-app purchases enabled in your phone settings. You can find them in the Restrictions-section under general settings.
Sure enough, my in-app purchases were “off” and once I turned them on I was able to use ME. It prompted me to purchase it again but because I already paid for it it popped back up with the confirmation that I had already bought it. Just wanted to post this if others have this issue with the iPhone. I totally forgot about those settings so I certainly didn’t think to check them.
Chalk up another day to housework neglect for playing Angry Birds!! :D
How funny, I actually reported this issue to Rovio the day the Mighty Eagle came out. I’m sure I was one of the first to notify them. I figured since you already purchased it that wouldn’t have been the cause, so I didn’t mention it. Anyhow, i heard back from Rovio this morning too regarding my original bug report. How timely.
I’m a glutton for punishment! I downloaded Angry Birds TWICE, the second time in HD. Now, if you want to try to clear the board , you have to deal with the slo-mo of the birds & the weird , breaking fl…..ow… Of the birds!lol
Wow what an intense few days… Never been so addicted as to getting all 210 feathers… Thank God I have them now!!! Roll on level 13 & 14. Need new golden egg challenges now ;)

All I know is everybody else can only get around 80% on this level because it is a known glitch!!
I have the mighty eagle, but I still get the notification telling me that the Mighty Eagle is available. How do I turn it off? I have an iphone and I turned off my notifications in the settings, but nothing seems to work.
I don’t think you can at the moment. I know, it’s pretty annoying. I believe Rovio is aware of this one and will be fixing it in the next update.
I think it notifies you after 1 hour to let you know that you can use it on levels that you have not completed yet. Hope this helps!!
Yep. The problem is you can’t disable it.

My boyfriend and I got woken up in the middle of the night by the Mighty Eagle notification
beeping on my phone. He works shifts and had to get up at 5am

Use the 3 white birds to take out the beach ball, stone structure, and green pig on the far right, then use the ME, launch the sardine can into the second level of the left structure should clear it.

Oh god that was my luck shot, I think I worked far left first, and landed sardine can down low and got everything on the bounce.
Ok been playing it, launch first yellow far left blow up TNT, second yellow shoot up and land far left and use it to break down to lower TNT, then use pelican the blow up TNT right in front, then hit ME, put it in the gap so it drops down should clear board.
Finally did it, kinda like you said, quite a bizarre one that one was! Thank you

For levels you haven’t passed you have to wait an hour before you can use it again in the same level.

Does anyone know what the definition of “100%” is? Sometimes I get 100% when there are still a few pieces of debris laying around, even some things still standing. Does it have anything to do with how few birds you use? Or is it a bit arbitrary?
4-2 is killing me. 99% dozens of times…
6-4 is screwed
12-3 I only got 94%
12-7 I don’t see a solution on here…

I just got 100% on 12-3 in a way that I never expected to work:
I didn’t use any birds. I just shot the sardine can almost straight down, IN FRONT of the 2 mountains. The ME bounced and took out big chunks of both structures (but did not destroy either), and the dynamite fell to wipe out the structure at the bottom.
100%! What a shock! Not sure if I could duplicate it, but worth a try if you are stuck.
Sorry if this is a dumb question – my son has got to level 12-15 and can’t go any further into 13 as it says “Coming Soon”. Is this because the levels for this just haven’t been released yet or is it because he’s not got 3 stars on all previous levels?

I give up o 2-2 in HD. This is an impossibility! The second blue bird does nothing but bounce off everything wether single or trio, the yellow bird NEVER gets past the the first “marble” barrier, even though I tried every angle known to man and woman and the sardines have a mind of their own as well. I’ve cleared everything in regular mode, with the exception of 6-4 to achieve a 100%. Any comments for the jerky movement and non action in HD?

You won’t get 100% unless the Toucan is still there, it’s a glitch. Once you release the toucan 20% is gone!

I know. I downloaded this game twice because it was so much fun but I didn’t know about the gaged toucan glitch before I passed that mark.mark the second time. Phooooey! Anyway, I will go through and see what I can contribute.
Does anyone know if using the Mighty Eagle to destroy a structure counts toward the achievement for smashing 500,000 blocks? I have been playing for months, have had my 30 hour achievement for a while now and still haven’t hit that badge.
