Spells no longer a card in treasure chests

It is intentional. While I understand Rovio wanting to increase revenue, it would basically end up killing the game. Arena would die down sooner than later.

If anyone from Rovio is listening, I have an alternate idea. Rovio can start an additional spell chest. Classify types of spells and number of spells in a card into common, uncommon and rare categories. These chests can be timed (opens like once in 4 or 6 hours) for general use. Also, they can be used as rewards for events. They can monetise it through gems like for other chests, for multiple card draws from same chests. Players would get spells to continue playing and anyone wishing to move ahead can buy the chests.

In the current gameplay scenario, ending spell draws from chests would just end the game

Rovio have pulled some strokes in the past but this beggars belief – it’ll kill the Arena, especially with the current “too hard to win without using all spells” mode which pops up very frequently even at level 1, since a couple of updates ago.

They seem to be intent on making the game more difficult, not more enjoyable. If I can’t get enough spells to play arena competitively, I’ll stop playing it. That will result in my supply of gems declining and eventually running out, which will prevent multiple replays of MEBC and other parts of the game requiring gems.

The “rewards” for DC and KPP were pretty paltry to begin with, and since the removal of the video bird they also have become more difficult, so I’ve mostly stopped playing those too (except to claim a couple of apples and daily quest gems).

That will leave me with playing the map, which is what I started with in the first place but rarely play any more. Maybe that’s where all this is headed. So be it. I still won’t pay real $$$ to buy spells. There are other things I can do with my time.

@garethw I’m using the same strategy of not watching any ads.  I don’t spend real money on the game and I’m sure not giving them ad revenue for 50 lousy feathers.  I used to watch every ad available for treasure chests when they had treasure in them, but no more!  I have exactly 250 spells left and when they’re gone, unless they change it back I’m done.

Its simple.. they want money for spells. After trying money for feathers (since nobody plays the green snot nose they forced us to use it). But the money just didn’t come.. now this.

it might work I’m afraid. New players won’t know the times spells were up for grabs. The boring money players will pay for anything that moves with some holes in it. And even bittered old timers like me might be tempted in the future?

in my case: I won’t buy daily mail or a clan chest anymore. But put 12 euro the month on spells.

though I think quitting may be best.. since they messed halfway season with the training, nothing feels right(eous) anymore.

Why do these buggers don’t understand that a.b. Players are prob. Easygoing peaceloving peops who like a relaxing game to ease the mind and body?I bet they make more money if they treat us right instead of a constant kick in the ass.. This don’t fit their lovely game . It sure as hell don’t fit this player.

totally agree with you all – the amount of arena play has dropped – I’m back in LL this week was motoring along nicely, now have virtually stopped, a couple are a few hundered ahead, and there’s someone in third virtually the same as me, who is just doing the odd game or two, no one below is making a move.

you can’t get past round 5 as up pops someone with 5 spells not worth it for a chest now.

stopped watching any ads – I’d look at something 20 secs or less for the first time anything longer or repetitive ads got the screen face down – now I’m not giving them the click at all,

bizarely (and I’ll mention it in the correct thread the ToF last couple of days has been very good

to finish totally agree I play the game as a sort of mental relaxation – it’s a “ finger spinner” for me

ps glad to hear I’m not alone in my thoughts here – but of course sad that the change has been made

I let Rovio know that I wasn’t getting spells in the chests anymore and asked if it was a bug, and if so were the developers working on a fix and I got this response:

Spells are back with the latest update.

Funny how short they do these try outs? Panic football we the Dutch would call this.

I must say: I loved the way -for the first time- at least the first 4 levels at the arena appeared to be FairPlay?

But using spells the right way does juice up the game play.

Yup – just noticed that 1 chilli is now a rare treasure   – rather than 3 as before.

Also spells in general are appearing much less often in the uncommon chests.

I got spells in the tof today.

The chest spells were thankfully fixed and the problem only lasted a very short time. Unfortunately for me at least, now the blue x3 Chilli spell card hasn’t been working correctly for the past week or so:

I can’t be the only one who’s getting this. I messaged Rovio the other day (I sent them a message through the Contact page which is under the About tab on the top yellow menu thing).
