Fresh on the heels of the “They’re coming…” teaser image, Rovio has announced that “Angry Birds Space” is set to blast off on March 22nd, 2012. This is not an update, but rather, it’s a completely new version of Angry Birds. Rovio’s lunar outpost for this epic launch is: space.angrybirds.com.
This will be Rovio’s fourth paid version of Angry Birds and the first to deviate from the traditional physics we all know so well. That said, this Summer Pignic Golden Egg level might give us a small glimpse as to what to expect; however, I’m sure the physics have been much refined and improved since then.
It looks like Yahoo scored an exclusive on this one, as they have an article with some details. You can also find some official details in Rovio’s press kit. Said details are a bit vague, but below are some highlights:
- You will be flinging birds on alien planets while contending with zero gravity. This opens up new gameplay elements like slow-motion puzzles and “lightspeed” destruction.”
- Angry Birds Space will include new birds alongside familiar ones, sporting new super powers.
- The three star rating system will remain.
- Both NASA and National Geographic are launch partners.
- On March 22nd Rovio will simultaneously launch in mobile gaming channels, retail, and an animation channel. Rovio states this is the first time this has ever been done for a mobile game. (See updates below for more info.)

Feb. 22nd, 2012 – Thanks to these awesome Angry Birds Space stickers (above) on we’ve got our first glimpse at some of the revamped birds and pigs in Angry Birds Space. I don’t know about you guys, but these look awesome! We were asked to take the stickers down.
Feb. 23rd, 2012 – New authentic footage from Rovio’s personal space exploration reveals a giant slingshot on the moon. While the video doesn’t say much (watch on YouTube), it does reveal that information will be revealed on March 8th.
Feb. 25th, 2012 – Rovio has confirmed that the March 22nd release date applies to iOS, Android, PC, and Mac. (We guess PC means the standalone version from Rovio’s site, and Android means both Market and Amazon, but this is just our guess.)
Feb. 27th, 2012 – Houston, we have a slingshot. The latest video (above) says that Angry Birds Space will be “launching with the Samsung Galaxy Note”. (Remember the Advent Challenge?) Not entirely sure what this means though, since the Note was released some months ago. Any ideas?
Mar. 5th, 2012 – The third teaser has been released. It seems like the pigs will indeed be making their appearance in AB:Space.

Angry Birds was not designed to be “modified”.
Even if some have managed to mod the game, I strongly advise you not to. You might end up loosing all your progress, corrupt other files and crash your game.
Not worth it at all.
i agree with Sal here, download the wallpaper by all means, but its too risky ‘modifying’ your game. i’d settle with just putting it as your background! :)

Unfortunately, there was no ABS update for Valentines Day.
We got a new game for valentines day: Angry Birds Facebook ;-)
We also had many updates the last three months.

i know angry birds space will be available for pc after march 22nd since i heard they will landing for devices first
Nothing has been said about which devices when. My suspicion is that it will land for iOS, Android, PC and possibly Mac on the 22nd, but Rovio will be releasing more information in the coming weeks.

I believe game-stalkers just tweaked the normal image from “space.ab”, just like BirdLeader does with some of our featured images. So to answer your question, the image itself is not Rovio-official, but a customization/tweak of the original.

Unlisted means it is not listed when you do a search, but if you have the link(which Rovio probably gave ABN) you can view it.

New Ice Bird? it obviously shoots snowballs at pigs to freeze them.
i feel like all those superhero style images of the angry birds made it to a game, so we have red bird as some kind of batman, yellow bird as iceman, big brother as hulk, blue birds as flash (wich doesn’t make sense to me, since yellow is faster)and black bird as some king of intergalactic hero (reminds me of buzz lightyear and zurg LOL)

maybe rovio decided not to release these stickers and didn’t want people to be expecting something they weren’t releasing? I can’t see them in the angry birds shop now, I don’t know if they were…?
Something along those lines because I placed an order for them yesterday & my order was cancelled & refunded this morning. :(

what rovio meab pc for standalone? i saw update as feb 25th ia that i cant get angry birds space on my laptop through downloadbird something like that?
That means you could download the AB versions from the official Rovio site for PC.

Curious: Other Android users, which do you find more reliable/fast with updates? Android Market or Amazon App Store?
I find that Amazon is usually quicker, but that could be because I am on Amazon alot :). Rio updates always came to Amazon first, because they had an agreement to have it first, I think.
