Will you be adding leader boards for the web based ones like Heiki, Philadelphia Eagles etc? How about Angry Birds Space free? Star Wars free?

Because those apps are simply the first few levels of the full app. No need to Leaderboards.

Hi AMSlimfordy, quick question, quite unrelated to any AB levels specifically; i sent a message on today’s challenge and for the first time noticed that the time on my posting was an hour earlier than where I live in my little piece of the world! So, can you please confirm if messages are posted in PST. Thanks so much!

Selecting “Free & Lite Editions” in the “Leaderboards” menu doesn’t take you anymore to the free & lite editions leaderboards?

Rank: Sling God with 25675 points
By AMslimfordy (@amslimfordy)

They have been temporarily removed while we do some work in terms of hierarchy and taxonomy of the Leaderboard structure. Rest assured that scores are still logged.

Avatar of to mock a mockingbirdRank: Out of this World with 2655 points
By to mock a mockingbird (@vuelva)

Ok. Clearly, with the addition of new versions taxonomy has to be revised from time to time. (Two remarks 1) splitting into leaderboards with and without pu’s could prevent/take away some confusion? 2) I thought “Free & Light Editions” was a bit of a misnomer as selecting it gave the list of all leaderboards.) I was not worried about my scores (I have them on my ipad), but a bit about the comments, but later I saw that the walkthrough pages were still accessible (even with scores), so no worries. Thinking about it, it could be useful to have an “archiving” function which would send your current profile (all of it, comments, pictures, etc. e.g. zipped) to your e-mail address, or would that use (potentially) too much bandwidth/computing power?

Rank: Sling God with 25675 points
By AMslimfordy (@amslimfordy)

(1) We have no intention of creating a PU Leaderboard at this time.

(2) This may be adjusted in the taxonomy improvements, but there was nothing else that could be done.

(3) There’s really no such log.

@amslimfordy since it is two months (may 2013 – july 2013) since the “temporary removal” let me inquire about the status of these Angry Birds Free pages (same for Lite etc.) again. at present, their status is unclear to me:
- I do get notified that my top scores have been beaten in Angry Birds Free, and following the link provided in the e-mail does give one the leaderboard for that level.
- but these level leaderboards do not seem to be accessible from the menus (? or where can I find them)
- the total score leaderboard seems to have disappeared (following the links on the walkthrough pages gives you an empty page saying no scores entered yet)
- the same message is given on your own scores page: your scores for the individual levels are shown though just no total score.
- walkthrough pages are available and accessible via the menus as before.
could you say something about the future of these leaderboards?
(i know activity was/is low on these pages and that the taxonomy is already crowded; on the other hand just checked on gamecenter that there are daily still ~300k players; anyway i think it would be good to be clear)

Noticed that the free and lite leaderboards are fully functional again, and that the problem of the menu becoming too full has been solved by not listing them in the drop-down menu, only showing them after clicking on Leaderboards. Excellent. Thank you.

I appreciate that you guys have been busy working on the site (database update messages for most of yesterday!), just thought you should be aware of some issues that I have come across since things have been back online:
1. Pages not loading up correctly (just the standard blue background with ABN header & adverts, nothing else!)
2. Pages loading up but with yellow blocks of html coding (this has happened when you haven’t been updating too, but as yet I’ve been unable to get a screenshot)
3. pages loading up but they have episode/level memory numbers written on them (please see screenshots ‘doc1′ & ‘doc2′ in my album)

Hopefully these are just blips, and you may already be working on them, just doing my bit to help. ;)

Rank: Sling God with 25675 points
By AMslimfordy (@amslimfordy)

We’ve made some minor improvements to the default sorting in the leaderboards. I’d be interested in hearing your feedback. The most notable episodes effected by this update include:

Rio Bonus Episode now lists all “Star” levels together, followed by the “Eagle” levels. I’m not sure if we want it this way, or grouped by episodes. (Related: Seasons Bonus Episode)

Space Eggsteroids now lists the “Eggsteroids” together, followed by the “Rovers”. I think this makes sense, based on the pagination.

Star Wars Bonus Episode now lists the “Stars” levels together, followed by the “Droids”. I think this makes sense, based on the pagination.

Avatar of frozndevlRank: Explosive with 2470 points
By frozndevl (@frozndevl)

Rio – It works, though is a bit hard to follow. Anyway to break them up the way the Seasons Golden Eggs were with Stars having one section, and the Eagle levels another?

Eggsteroids – Same comments as Rio, though with the shorter names it’s easier to read.

SW Bonus – Same again. The shorter level names make it easier to follow.

Turns out that I have the same comments for each, but I think it only really matters for the Rio levels because the names are so long. Though, for consistencies sake, having it the same in each would be aesthetically pleasing.

Rank: Sling God with 25675 points
By AMslimfordy (@amslimfordy)

@frozndevl I appreciate the quick response.

Our leaderboard taxonomy goes “App > Episode > Level”. For any app, you can chose to view all episodes on a single page, or a specific episodes. In this case, my links above are to the specific episode leaderboard (e.g., Rio Bonus). Our taxonomy does not have any intermediate steps between Episode and Level, so there can be no display tweaks on that end.

For comparison about how sneaky and tricky we are, we called Seasons Golden Eggs its own “App”. When you view that leaderboard, you are actually viewing the same thing as the full ABS leaderboard, only with far far fewer levels. The only way to simulate this effect would be to call Rio Bonus (and Eggsteroids and SW Bonus) their own apps. On one hand, I’m not sure I like that idea too much. On the other, I’m not sure how feasible it would be to actually move those scores. On the third hand (can I have 3 hands?), I’m not sure if it’s “natural”

I can certainly go through and see if I can scale down the level names a bit. If we can get them to display on a single line, I think that’d be awesome.

Avatar of frozndevlRank: Explosive with 2470 points
By frozndevl (@frozndevl)

3 hands are fine, better than 2 I always say!

I haven’t been around much, so I’ve forgotten a few of the intricacies of how the boards work. I agree that putting them into their own “app” wouldn’t make much sense. I think it would be too confusing, or at least more confusing than having wrapping names.

The other alternative would be to have separate boards for each type of level. Using Rio as an example, that would be a level for Star and a level for Eagle, instead of the combined bonus.

I can’t understand why all subsequence scores show n/a and why nobody else is showing n/a. Could it be a bug?

Rank: Sling God with 25675 points

No, it’s not a bug. No one has flagged you, and N/A does not indicate such.

I’m planning on adding my own scores to the leaderboard soon, but I need to ask something first…

I’ve read the policy on adding level scores and how many are recommended to be added at one time. There are some chapters in the game I haven’t completely finished yet (I’m only 2/3 done with Birdday Party and 1/3 through the Bad Piggies chapter, for instance). Would it be allowed if I put those scores in for now and save the rest for later (e.g. Bad Piggies 20-1 to 20-15), or should I just wait until I finish the chapter completely?

On a somewhat related note, the chapters for Angry Birds Original seem to have slightly different numbering systems than the other games. They seem to be numbered by screens, while other games are numbered by chapter. Would this affect how many scores I could add to the leaderboards at once?

Thanks!

Rank: Gold Flinger with 8240 points

That’s all up to you, but it would be best to enter your scores till after you finish the chapter, so as to avoid suspicion of scores.

No; just as long as you follow the numbering here in the leaderboards, everything would be a-OK.

Rank: Sling God with 25675 points

@RizDub We recommend that users enter scores “in bulk”. The idea being, if a user only enters 1 or 2 scores in a given episode, it looks a bit suspicious. If you enter 15 consecutive scores, that looks much less so.

I’ll be glad when Rovio has all the games synced between devices through the cloud. I entered some scores to my leaderboard from my iPhone on Rio and they don’t match with some of the scores I have on my iPad. Boy this is tedious! I’m determined to get them all entered, but might not get done this weekend.
