In the wake of one of the biggest Angry Birds release days ever Rovio has one more surprise up there sleeve. In partnership with Wonderful Pistachios comes an brand new browser based mini-game titled, “Angry Birds Pistachios: The Hunt for the Golden Pistachio“.   It’s optimized to run in Google Chrome, but will likely work in other modern non-mobile browsers as well.  The direct link to the game is getcrackin.angrybirds.com.
I should add, most stories I’ve read covering this update state that this is the “first” Angry Birds brand mini-game.  We all know that to be false, as Angry Birds Volcano was released a couple months back, which laid the ground work for Angry Birds Pistachios.
Our walkthrough videos are up, but we still need to obtain codes to unlock the other levels.
Here’s the lowdown on how Angry Birds Hunt for the Golden Pistachios works:
- Head on over to getcrackin.angrybirds.com to in Google Chrome or other modern browser (Chrome is ideal).
- The first two levels of the game are open to all players. No log-in is required. Once you get to Level 3 you can start winning prizes.
- The prize levels have randomly hidden Golden Pistachios. If you hit them you can enter to win prizes, which vary from free bags of pistachios all the way up to $25,000!
- When you register you get five free plays in the prize levels. For 15 more plays, you have to head out and buy special bags of Wonderful Pistachios to get your unique “Get Crackin’ code”.
- You can also earn extra plays by sharing your score on Facebook and Twitter.
Of course, this is the much-abbreviated details of the game, but to read (far) more, see the official rules. Â Here are the highlights:
- Promotion and prizes are only available to legal US residents 18 years of age and older
- The promotion runs throughout December.
- Get Crackin’ codes are available on specially marked 8, 10, and 16 oz. bags of Wonderful Pistachios
- Codes expire at 11:59pm EST on 31 December, after which time they are void and attempting to use them is considered tampering and disqualifies you from the contest.
You can also receive codes without purchase by following these directions:
Register for the Game, invite a friend to participate in the Game via Facebook (Note: Your friend must accept your invite in order for you to receive the free Code) or send the provided tweet regarding the Game. In all cases, invite/tweet should only be sent to individuals who are personally known to you, who are eligible to participate in the Promotion and who you believe would be interested in the Promotion and Sponsor’s Wonderful® Pistachios product.
How these codes actually work is still not crystal clear.  They stated that the codes are “unique”, so it very possible that they are a one-time-use and, when you enter them online, any further attempt to use the code will fail. At this point, we just don’t know.

Um, I thought this would work in any browser? I can’t get past the “Optimized for Chrome” Screen. I am installing Chrome now just so I can play this(and any future ones that are Chrome only) but if there is a solution to playing this in Firefox, that’d be appreciated. I honestly have no interest in Chrome nor do I want to waste my HDD space on it.
It can be played in Firefox for me though, try using it in Safe Mode?
It can’t be played in my browser so I’ll just have to download Chrome. One more thing, I’m new and I’ve just got one question not relating to any of this, how do I change my profile pic from that random dude into a picture i want?

@AMslimfordy – To reset the level you hit the letter “R” since the title is replacing that. Up and Down are zoom are it was in the other game.
Are these codes emailed?
Nevermind, it appears they are added automattically when you invite a Facebook friend or Tweet their message. It just takes a few minutes.
Darn, I won’t use Facebook, I’d rather not tweet this on my Twitter account, (it has nothing to do with AB), and there are no stores selling their products in my area. Since it’s Chrome, it’s too bad they didn’t include Google Plus. That’s where my Angry Birds stuff is. Other than that, it’s a very nice version. The graphics are quite pretty on a dark night when it’s sleeting outside in my area.
epic fail. Won a coupon for a free bag but it won’t print from Chrome and tells thou to use Safari. Went to Safari, tried to print but it says I need to use Java 4.0, but I can;t downgrade from the current version. It ate the coupon so I can’t even try another browser. Kind of bad when they have 3rd graders write websites.
I clicked on the link to try this, and the only thing the site does is lead me to a page to download Chrome. So, guess I’m not playing this.
You can only play the game using Google Chrome browser (cause it’s faster).
This game is broken. Chrome is required to play this game; will not work on Internet Explorer or Firefox since you always get the Download Chrome screen. Birds will not activate special powers on demand, thus making the first level absolutely impossible to complete. Sound lag with some sound effects missing. Not playing until this gets fixed.

Wasted all five of my freebie tickets on the Factory (1-3)…LOL. Not having any problems with the interface or Chrome, but can tell this is going to be a lot of fun from the standpoint of not being sure I want to buy one or two codes (and pistachios that may or may not get eaten with all of the other holiday fare in the house *tries not to think of the White Fudge Oreos and Christmas Tree Cakes*) for something that’s going to require at least a few retries AND will be completely available without need for codes in January. Especially with my still trying to get the hang of the boomerang birds (please go easy on the somewhat-newbie)…though, the ‘free’ plush bird or pig prize is a teeny tiny bit tempting.
The boomerang birds seems to behave slightly differently on this version of AB…
I’ve yet to reach the boomerang birds on original recipe AB (farthest I’ve gotten thus far is Poached Eggs 3-2…not kidding about being a somewhat-newbie ;) ). But I’ve wondered if the pistachio boomerangs are different behaving, as awful flighty (no pun intended) as they seem to be. That said, I feel not only better about when I do get to the normal boomerangs, but also particularly ecstatic about achieving the three stars on 1-2/Harvest as quick as I did.
As I said on the AB Volcano post, I would happily pay for a collection of these mini-games. (Please Rovio, if you read this…..) I’m not so keen on using the Chrome Browser, and not at all wanting to use Facebook and Twitter to get game codes, so what’s a poor angry birds addict supposed to do?
(And if Rovio reads this, please make some angry bird cookie cutters. Those cookies in Wreck the Halls are just begging to be made in the real world.)

Yeah I agree i play on my 4th gen Ipod I wish I could play these levels on it. My computer is terrible not even about to use that.
I went to four different stores today, and none of their Wonderful pistachios had game codes. Also, none of my Facebook friends are interested in playing so it looks like all I can get is the Twitter plays… which stinks because I had played just enough to really get into it!
Wonder why they don’t have Google+ incorporated into all of this? With the AB G+ group seems like we could really get things going.
I was wondering the same thing Stacey, especially since it’s a Chrome game. All my AB contacts are on G+, not Twitter or Facebook. I don’t use FB at all because I don’t like them, and I don’t want to send out tweets to people who would only be annoyed by them because they don’t play, it would be too much like spamming.

I honestly wonder how reliable Wonderful’s store locator is…it claimed that their pistachios could be found here in Bluefield (VA/WV border town). But 1. I have yet to see Wonderful brand bags sold at the recommended Wal-Mart, as well as the other three suggested grocery stores. And 2. I really had never heard of Wonderful Pistachios until their Angry Birds campaign, of which I had no idea would evolve into a contest when I happened upon the initial commercial on YouTube several weeks ago. kathi17, I’m in the greater Bangor area, and the stores here have HEAPS AND HEAPS of Wonderful pistachios… but none of them had the game pieces. =/
In fact, given the volume of pistachios I saw, if we have to wait for stores to sell all of those before putting a new batch out the contest will be over!
Thanks Jody, I was in Bangor today, but probably won’t get back until after Christmas. I guess I should have gotten my groceries there instead of in Ellsworth. I didn’t see any pistachios at Hannaford.
I’m in Stonington, if you want a cool place to visit next summer, come to Clam Factory Gifts in Burnt Cove. We have a beach! I go off island usually on Sundays, and sometimes we spend the whole weekend at Nicatous Lodge in Burlington, but I’m there every weekday from Memorial Day until Columbus Day.
It’s funny you should mention that – I haven’t lived here very long, so the only exploring I did this summer was along Route 1. This afternoon I was killing time/daydreaming at work looking at new places to visit next summer. I’ll add Burnt Cove to the list!

any walkthroughs on 3, 4, 5? I’ve 3 starred 3 & 4 but have been stuck on 5 with 174900 for a long time. I send the first through the ropes and take down the far pile and then the next yellow I take down the close pile but the only way to get over 170000 is to throw the black too.

some how im at 130 plays. I sent it out to a few FB friends. Yesterday I was posting to twitter, deleting my post, & posting again and would keep getting 5 plays. Today every time I would hit a golden pistachio it would give me 15 more plays. I would hit one every few plays to get 15 each time. I don’t know if it’s some sort of glitch but I doubt I’ve racked up 130 plays just by twitter and FB alone.
I just read the rules closely and it says the you’re limited to 3 non cash prizes (a plush toy, coupon, or year supply of pistachios) per week….so once you win any 3 of those, you will probably keep getting the play bonuses.
I won 3 prizes.. a plush, a free bag of pistachios, and a $1 off coupon. Afterward, I kept winning 15 more chances at the game. I maxed out at 250, and now it says that I can’t win any more chances. I’ll wait a week and see if I can win again!
Although I want to play the other levels, I hate Faceboook, and I’m allergic to nuts… So I don’t think buying pistachios is such a good idea…

Meh…they won’t let you enter a code until you login to Facebook, but every time I try, I get a blank screen and I still can’t enter the info. I like the concept of these mini games very much, but can’t stand the glitchy bs that comes along with them (I completed Volcano, but the controls made it mind-numbingly challenging). If they are released on ios, aweseome. Until then, these PC games are dead to me.

According to the rules you can win 3 non-cash prizes per week (coupon, plush toy, year supply of pistachios) and thats the limit. i hit at least 20 golden pistachios but after my last prize, ive only been getting additional plays. i guess this means i will save the rest of my 130 plays for next week when my prize count resets :(
so far i have seen 2 places where the golden pistachios consistently show up on levels 1-3 and 1-5. in 1-3, it is either in the little notch of the brown thing right below the hanging crate, or above the birds that you launch in the brown notch up there. in 1-5, its either hanging from the balloon on the far right of the screen, or tucked down to the right of the 2nd stone field goal in the center. on 1-4 ive only seen it in once place, and that is right down in the middle where the pig is between the two structures.
i beat all 5 levels and won an angry birds plush and a bag of pistachios.

There aren’t 3 codes. There are lots of codes, each worth 5 plays. But you have to get them by means described in the post, such as buying bags of pistachios.
