    Hoe is het met je? @vuelva always glad when you pop out of your wormhole to say hello(I’m afraid I had to google the Dutch greeting)(Ooops is Dutch a word the people of The Netherlands are comfortable with?)

    There are quite a few expressions in English pre-fixed by the word Dutch that have negative connotations( uncle for instance-great band but rubbish relative).Think it all stemmed from that period of history when Brittain,Holland,and Spain were all vying for supremecy in Europe.Wondered if you guys have similar expressions(English tossers?(Not as bad as their indian counterparts))

    @vuelva, the story of the Appalachian Trail is that in mid January 2024 my friend Jenn said that her Fitbit (or equivalent) had congratulated her on completing a challenge walk of some description (can’t remember which) and that now she was beginning the Appalachian Trail, 2198 miles.  I said that Twiggy and I would race her to the end and that we would try to do it before the end of the year. As it was we reached the end on December 29th and straightaway decided to try and do the Pacific Crest Trail (2680 miles) in 2025. As of now we are 585 miles along the PCT and Jenn has almost reached halfway on the AT ha-ha. In reality you wouldn’t be able to do this because significant sections of both trails have to be closed during winter months. The record for doing the PCT is just 48 days, i.e. over 50 miles a day, by a Belgian dentist. Our distance requirement is just over 7 miles per day.

    Backtracking a little here’s the very first Stiff release…https://youtu.be/YEpr8kaczck?si=tMKGBCEE0MFcFIjJ

    And then Nick Lowe produced this, also coming out on Stiff, widely regarded to be the first charting UK punk single. Written by Brian James, who died 2 weeks ago.

    They also produced early Costello singles before Jake Rivierra stole him including this beauty…https://youtu.be/snPDoXl9ZPs?si=vXbyZSMS1FrEmnS6

    And this as well on Stiff in 1977! An unknown record label just exploded with talent.

    Think we had a dead heat two weeks in a row on UC @hunnybunny. I’m missing OC. The replacement chess programme is mildly entertaining but who knew that there were so many double entendres in the game.

    If you don’t post, you know what you are going to get. Apparently this “begins with an elastic reggae beat before becoming consumed by sheets of guitars, wispy harmonies, and stabs of brass”. What’s not to like.

    The harmonies are a little too wispy for my liking and with knife crime in the UK being what it is we shouldn’t be talking about brass stabbings.Comment awaiting moderation unlike this tune https://youtu.be/j8fSymv-5R8?si=48cnWTPK946UL8nD

    @desperate-dan

    Well if you don’t like wispy harmonies, we could go a little heavier. Everyone is turned up to 11 in this one. Especially at about 2:26.

    Customer Capers

    One of my customers came out and asked if I’d finished.I said no,since you put that wooden board up to keep your dog in I have to double back to finish the rest of the house.

    “Oh” she said”I can take that down now the dog’s gone…and so has the husband!”

    After a brief awkward pause I said “I’m sorry  about that.”She said “I’m not,I’ve never been so happy.”

    In the course of the ensuing conversation one of her gripes was that he was a miser.This I can confirm, he used to stop me going when the clocks go back in Autumn until they go forward in Spring reckoning the windows were never clean in the Winter.Don’t think he understands the concept of a window cleaner.

    Customer Capers No.2

    One of my customers has to take her dogs for a walk seperately now after a recent incident involving a squirrel.She said when they saw it she was off her feet being dragged through a freshly ploughed field.She had to let go after her nostrils filled with soil.Yorkshire terriers eh?

    I’m there cheering Twiggy on. I know she hasn’t got the slightest chance of ever catching one.

    Desperate Dan
    @desperate-dan

    She once chased a hare. Well, she’s an optimist, I’ll give you that. It was the biggest field I’ve ever been in and also a very big hare. Hare and Twiggy got smaller and smaller until both became specks in the far distance and vanished. After about ten minutes she came back exhausted and wiser. Tactfully I didn’t ask about the hare.
