Melise@meliseHow are Arena opponents chosen?

RedYoshi45@smwforever45Based on your current bird levels and star count I guess. I always get something equal or slightly better than myself.
But none of us knows for sure. To cite @captsternn: “If you have the owner’s manual for this game, share it with us”.
cognitive@cognitiveSpeaking of opponents, when I get an opponent that has 8 birds instead of my 7, does this mean he used the extra bird with video at the end or something else?
Using the time-honored opponent avoidance method seems to work, there seems to be a rash of 23-29 star opponents with 3 birds @ 5, which I find very difficult to believe. I’d much rather take on a 37-38 like me with all 4 level birds, maybe a 5.
RedYoshi45@smwforever45@cognitive
Sounds plausible indeed. Pretty sure everyone uses that free bird especially when they’re close to victory or close to filling the Destructometer.
Partshade@partshadeI think they’re chosen with darts and a league colored board TBH :P. I seem to land on blue and purple a lot.
LSALT007@lsalt007It’s simple, whatever opponent is going to have every bird at level 8 and ALL SPELLS is the one you will get matched up with so that you will feel that you need to buy gems/spells/tickets in order to win…. Lol!! Thanks Rovio!!
angrynerds2@angrynerds2@cognitive: I also think the extra bird is from watching the video. You always get one when you have no more birds left and you have a lower score than your opponent.
That means, players with one more bird often lost their games or won it very closely.
The more succesful and dangerous opponents win exra birds by destroying constructions with one strike and these are not listed in the beginning.
RedYoshi45@smwforever45So to conclude, if I get an opponent with one bird more than me it should be an easy match? I really don’t think so, people with 8 birds in the beginning often outbeat me by hundreds of thousands of points.
cognitive@cognitivefollow the simple advise – choose opponents that have at most one bird ranked higher than yours regardless of overall star score. I’ve been playing daily for months, won Diamond several times, and all my birds are mid 4’s. My rating is 37. Take an opponent that’s a 23 with 3 birds at 5 and you aren’t winning. Take a 38-39 with all 4’s and I can win by half a mil points unless I mess up.
whether these wonders at 23 with 3 birds at 5 are cheats or not is unknown. But bird @ 4 vs bird @ 5 makes a huge difference esp in birds that cause lots of damage (Terence, Bomb).
RedYoshi45@smwforever45@cognitive
NEVER happens for me. I have 3 level 3 and 4 level 2 birds at this point and I always get all level 3 – sometimes one or two level 2’s or one level 4 bird, but not too much of a difference and whether I can beat an opponent or not sometimes doesn’t depend on their bird levels. I won against the one that had a level 4 Mathilda, but lost against one that had two level 2 birds in his flock.Winning or not winning also depends on the amount of extra bird the opponent gets. They seem to get more Destructometer fills the lower their star count is – or is that just an illusion?
Also note that there’s always a few that throw their dollars into Rovio’s beak willingly – be it young kids with rich parents, or those that spend 12 hours a day playing the game, or those that never played the arena before and got their entire star count from playing the regular levels.
cognitive@cognitiveThere are legit cheats. I just ran into one today, the usual high 20’s – low 30’s star rating with 3 5’s birds. Start playing, and all of a sudden his list of bird sports 2 Chucks. I’ve ran into the double Mathilda guy too…
Partshade@partshade@cognitive These are people who installed a hacked .apk file on the internet. It gives you unlimited Birds, power ups and gems as well as unlocking all levels. These hacks are shamefully easy to get TBH.
RedYoshi45@smwforever45@cognitive
I’ve had several double bird guys and I’m barely in the Bronze league. I thought they’d be the free bird you can get by watching an ad or a Destructometer bonus they got or something. Guess not. :(
cognitive@cognitiveNo, I don’t think so because the game is pretty good in not giving you a double bird. Let’s say you Terence or Bomb a rich level when you have 7 birds. You used one, and filled the D-meter so you get a free bird. The free bird is always the bird you just used which is nice.
RedYoshi45@smwforever45@cognitive
Yeah but it doesn’t make sense to me. Why would the first Destructometer fill be counted towards the total and show up as an 8th bird but the other Destructometer fills not? The AI is able to fill up its own Destructometer so I suspect the 8th bird phenomenon is either due to the free bird you get by watching an ad, or it’s a cheater.
Partshade@partshade@smwforever45 @cognitive It’s a cheater. The system is coded so that, if you have all 7 Birds in your deck, but get a new card, it WILL be a spell. There’s no way to legitimately have more than 1 of the same bird.
angrynerds2@angrynerds2The system always gives you higher ranked opponents and this sucks.
Now one single bird of my flock is on level six and I always get opponents with at least five 6-birds.
cognitive@cognitiveThe ranking should be by bird level and number of birds at level, not player ranking. If I play with a level 38 all 4 level birds I rarely lose. Like, one match a week and due to my error. If I play with some clown that’s ’23 stars’ and has 3-4 birds at 5 I usually lose by a million points.
By design the points are awarded based on bird level which gives a huge advantage. So, pick your opponents carefully. Takes more time…
What I don’t understand is why Rovio is not filtering out those ’23 stars, all birds at 5′ type players. Figure 950 feathers per bird for level 5, at 50 feathers per bird per day even if you get perfect luck is 19 days per bird of playing… Times 3-4 birds plus the other birds that’s MONTHS of playing the arena. Someone who’s playing MONTHS is not ranked @ 23 stars people…
RedYoshi45@smwforever4523 stars and all level 5 birds? Maybe if they NEVER played the arena before and only ranked their birds up with their daily feathers & the feathers from the treasure chests on the map & some feathers they got with gems from the Premium chests & some feathers from the daily free chest? There’s quite a few sources for feathers.
I’m rank 19 and have earned ~400 stars from the arena so far. So without the Arena I’d be at rank 13 or 14, and would still have the same amount of feathers as I have them right now. I have all level 3 birds, with the exception of Silver at level 4.
I wonder if one could have all level 5 birds at Level 23 when not playing the arena, and then, with the birds at level 5, starting to play?
cognitive@cognitiveI’m at level 39, all my birds are at 600-700 out of 950 at level 4. The “inconsistent” accounts are pretty standard, < 30 stars player rating, 3-4 level 5 birds, 8 birds in the game vs 7, often a spell, and often they have a facebook account pic and handle, and/or the crown icon decoration for Red. In my experience so far (5 times out of 5 Diamond league win, all gold medals since Vanilla) I have rarely won against such players. Also strange that I don’t seem to be seeing a lot of 2 high + 5 low birds, used to, now it’s all 3-4 high and 4-3 low birds. Against such a player you’ll do well to only lose by a million points.
angrynerds2@angrynerds2
RedYoshi45@smwforever45@cognitive
My star count is so low compared to yours :P And my birds really aren’t too far away from where yours stand. My highest is Silver at 288/950, my lowest are the Blues at 113/550. By now. Red and Chuck have reached the Gold rank too.8 birds? I get these clowns (I don’t know who used that word first in this forum but I like it) quite frequently, too. They start appearing with level 2 birds or so, very early at least. Spell fellows are a rare sight yet, I get the occasional duckie guy whom I counter with my own duckie if I feel like it.
I got the crown for Red too; however, I wouldn’t spend another €10 for the second upgrade, even though I do see its advantages. At least all those ads don’t nag me anymore. Since I gave Rovio these €3 for the first upgrade, the only ads I watch in AB2 are those I choose to watch.
Right now I get anything between seven Lv. 3 birds, and five Lv. 4 & two Lv. 3 birds. I win most matches; only the guys with more Lv. 4 birds than myself are tough, especially when they have a Lv. 4 Bomb or Terence at them.
@angrynerds2
LOL. There sure are weird stories told about Super Mario, it would suit him if he hacked into AB2. :P Or Princess Peach pays for all his gems.
cognitive@cognitiveThe selection of opponents is pitiful – I’ve had to restart the game 10x times on occasion to get a remotely balanced opponent. Maybe these guys are legit, but when one bird just a level higher than yours can do a good amount of damage more (20% ?) and you get to play it twice on average, if neither opponent makes a mistake, then you lose by a few hundred thousand points.
angrynerds2@angrynerds2Today I met Robert, who would not like opponents like him?

But if you think logical.. who the hell would spend over 200 gems to win one lousy game in the arena? He needs to use that spells in every game to win the weekly tournament (over thousands of gems), where he wins 100!
That’s not logical, even a rich guy wouldn’t do that, would he?
angrynerds2@angrynerds2It’s always funny which opponents they give me.
Today I got a)guys from the college of cheatology b) the league of invincible superheroes of “angry birds” players c) an anniversary of high school where they spent their money for buying spells… who knows
I guess they scored at least 10 million points in that match.
cognitive@cognitiveToday I went thru 20 opponents to find 2 that were not ‘questionable’. Now, Rovio, I’m an engineer’s engineer, and understand probability and statistics a bit too well… Here’s what today’s concerns are:
– 18 of the 20 players I encountered had the crown and often additional decoration (gown, etc). By contrast, 2 of the players in my league have the crown.
– A very large majority of them (perhaps 12-13) are people playing with a name – and most of those are women. Now, far be it from me to question female gamers (both my daughters are ace gamers) but again, it would be a bit of a coincidence / stretch…
– 18 of 20 had FOUR birds @ 5 and 3 @ 4, and all with scores from 23-31. Again, I’m not paranoid, but none of the people in my league, even seasoned Diamond leaguers have anything like it.
– Computer generated opponents, well, nice gimme. About one in ten?
Bottom line… I am getting a feeling that this horde of superbly feathered bird flingers is not the result of some hacked version of the game but it’s intentional. And it seems to have picked up considerably since the last update, much like the immortal piglets are now getting to be more of a problem – for me at least – in the Arena.
Any thoughts?
