Using our trusty green snout we’ve sleuthed up a great video from Engadget that gives you a hands on first look at Angry Birds Star Wars II gameplay, some of the characters, and the brand new Telepods technology. Telepods are basically action figures that you purchase that can also interact with the game, by swapping birds in and out. This video shows off a few of the new characters as well. For example:
- The first example shows Jar Jar Binks, but unfortunately doesn’t reveal his ability.
- He then teleports in Mace Windu whose ability is a boomerang lightsaber.
- Next up is pod racing Anakin who zooms forward behind his pod racer then explodes on impact.
- After switching to the Dark Side he zaps in The Emperor who uses chain-lighting to annihilate some poor Jawas.
- Now Darth Maul flings into action and causes massive destruction with his wickedly cool dual lightsabers.

I wish that I can play without using the power-up item!
I can’t wait!
We will kill the Piggies without them :-)
@thee-michelle You won’t be required to use Power Ups or Telepods.
The Trailer looks very awesome. Is a pity that it’s all about power-ups :-( but i think it will be a great App. Can’t wait until Sept 19th.
Hey @cc-jolly, as I noted above you won’t be required to use them, so I think it will just fine. This video obviously focuses on Telepods because — well — it’s a marketing video. I’m looking beyond that though at the actual gameplay and characters.
I’ve proposed that Rovio include a lightning bolt icon next the score when a PU or Telepod is used. This will allow to easily differentiate between scores obtain with and without them. We’ll see what they do.
Yes that’s true @birdleader. It seems to me as if Rovio just makes more publicity for TelePods. The game itself is in the background!
Yes @birdleader
That would be cool if we see different scores. But why Rovio didn’t change the other Apps/Games to different scores!? It is only done in AB SW ! We will see what Rovio plans in this case :-)
@CC-Jolly Not sure what you mean. It’s done in Star Wars, Space and Seasons. In ABo, they are logged separately but not yet displayed separately.
@Slim i only want to say that it is not showed up seperately in GC. I know it have nothing to do with Rovio!
GameCenter is not a priority. I’m referring to in-game distinctions.
In the level when he changes Jar Jar to Windu, the score is not distinguished(the usual lightning sign) so maybe the Telepods are not considered by Rovio as PUs??
Also If the Telepods are really PUs then why does the PU counter decrease AFTER increasing(when he selects Windu and Anakin, the number shows from 15 to 16, then again to 15). As far as PUs are concerned, counter always decreases when selected(AFAIK).
After Windu teleports in he has a purple icon with a reversed arrow. This might mean that the Telepods character can be swapped with Jar Jar again.(Maybe?? Not sure) Nonetheless can’t wait till Sept 19!!
Please see BirdLeader’s comments above. Rovio is still making changes to some details about gameplay. Any specific details seen in videos are subject to change before public release.
Oh..Sorry for that. Just couldn’t resist the temptation of the app’s arrival. Feels like it would have been best if we could download it right now. Hope you understand the anxiety amongst such hype.
That means that is his power. At least I think that because Darth Maul’s is a double bladed lightsaber blue button.
San Diego Comic-Con 2013:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zjm3HhXYJOk
Very Interesting. More Bird and Pig powers plus info. Yoda gets a bouncing attack, Jango Fett has a Missle attack, General Grievous has got the four lightsabers attack, Obi Wan’s got the force push (obiviosly) and Qui Gon Jinn gets the Green lightsaber drop and Jar Jar sprouts (that was my original theory.)
Quick question.. sorry if I missed it somewhere else..
How will the Telepods work for smartphones? Or are those “pad” exclusives?
It is designed for Front Camera’s most smartphones have front camera’s i believe. Dont think Back Camera will work
Could this mean they will work on PC? They have a front camera.
“PC” does not, by design, have a front camera.
A lot of laptops nowadays have front webcams built in. Mine does. And one could hook a bought webcam in to any PC. Might take some tinkering, but Rovio could potentially make this work for PC users and webcams.
They do, but it is by no means the norm. Also consider that nearly every smart phone has a rear-facing camera, but TELEPODs will not work on those.
So do a lot of desktop PC’s. My Samsung has a front-facing camera, as well as the integral 23″ touchscreen monitor, so it seems as though it would be like playing on my iPad, only larger!
But still, the release date is still more than a month away, as of this post, so it might work, or not.
Stay tuned…
We explain in far more detail in our original post
I will be buying it. I won’t be using power ups.
Cannot wait to try this App! I didn’t see the Mighty Millenium Falcon counter in the video…unless it is the one I thought was the power up counter. Maybe this was before the Falcon’s time? Or not finalized yet?
Did anyone notice that the jawas birds sounds like the pigs when popped?
Another Video with gameplay/telepods:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d4gJ6SxFOFM
Interesting. Count Dooku has the Boomerang lightsaber just like Mace except it is a sith one and General Griveous has the four lightsabers attack!
Maybe it is free so that more people can buy telepods and stuff
@waelman See our original post for some preliminary pricing information.
Wow, now that video with the telepods looks fun. What a whole new concept of game playing. Will definitely have to try at least one of these just for the fun of it.
I think Telepods will be more successful than Power Ups. Great new concept.
I’m wondering if you are able to use all Telepods in all levels or just some selected characters.. And if we can use Birds to telepod on the dark side
Oh no, for the first time I’m actually tempted to the AB dark side/power ups. (I see the Telepods as a type of power up.) Do you think the Telepods will be sold individually or in sets? The mind boggles as to how much we’ll be charged for them here downunder :(
This means Rovio has finally given us gameplay with choices of birds/order they are flung. Many of us have queried this ability in the past and it seems Rovio agreed it is a great idea and came up with the technology to do it. I wonder if you will only be able to use one telepod per game or multiple times?
Nice video!! Podracer Anakin looks very cool :)
Did anyone notice that, there were no “Space” gameplay levels in previous trailer video by Rovio, and now also in this video by Engadget…There are no “Space levels”.[ i.e. Space levels means, Planets & Zero Gravity levels]
Yep, there’s no space levels in the trailer.
Hope, they will not include them in ABSW2. I love the classic levels, so much.
Wow! The video was good, and so was the gameplay. Can’t wait!!
That’s Crazy!! Guess i need to buy some action figures lol!!
Not so. It’s look like classcics expansion of the product :). BL wrote “You won’t be required to use Power Ups or Telepods”.
I noticed that there is a button next to each character. I am thinking that this is the character’s power. For example, Mace Windu’s shows a lightsaber turning around. So I guess that Jar Jar’s Power is sprouting.
Yay, this will be the perfect birdday gift! Not really interested in the telepods, but I do like the choice between the Pork side and the Flight side. This will be very interesting. Ironic that with the pork side the BIRDS are weak. I’ll have to get used to that.

@amslimfordy In this video they said its coming for android, itunes (ipod touch, kindle fire) . :)
and.. ”You can purchase or you can earn the credits to get the characters” like in ABSW & Friends on Facebook
btw. nice new header on the site
Again I cannot afford the time to speak my thoughts, so yeah! For now, LOVE THE CONCEPT, but I’m having mixed feelings for the Telepods system and the design of the birds (Pigs are greatzz!)
Omega X
As you can see here:
https://www.angrybirdsnest.com/members/josm/album/picture/5547/
after using a telepod he will be launched into the game via the bar at the top, with numbers on it, so this was said before:
”You can purchase or you can earn the credits to get the characters”
Looks like you can choose in every level 4 different characters.. earned in the game, or used by telepods. So ‘choosing characters’ is like the power-ups in the original game ABSW.
Here is the List of devices compatible with telepods( At the bottom)
http://www.hasbro.com/starwars/en_US/angry-birds-telepods.cfm
So, it will work on most iOS & Android devices with Front camera.
The list is not finalized yet! reply from rovio
Rovio stated on Twitter that something with Ian McDiarmid ( The Emperor ) is coming tommorow, but Look what I already found:
