Angry Birds Rio Blossom River Walkthrough Level #9

Our strategy for Blossom River Level #9 is to fling the Yellow bird underwater, aiming for the TNT on the right side of the boat. The water is a bit murky, so aiming can be challenging. Then shoot straight ahead to blast the TNT poorly placed in the middle of the ship. The score in the video below is 92,180.

High scoring strategy:

First bird on a fairly flat trajectory, aim for the lowest part of the upper square stone block. The objective is to break the horizontal wooden plank but still have enough momentum to topple the stone blocks to the right, so that the structure with the flag also topples for extra points. TNT should detonate (which it usually does).

Then go for the TNTs on the right as in the video.

Opportunity for a one-birder here as the flag occasionally flips right and can detonate the far right TNT. Unfortunately my lack of patience led to bird two just floating in the water as a wasted 10K when the flag hit the TNT. Maybe next time…..

Did the same first bird shot, thanks @f91jsw. Couldn’t get the one bird solution. Had the flag pole and two wood blocks hit the plank on the right side and couldn’t break it. The yellow bird hit it a few times but the far right tnt box remained. Happy with using the second bird to get the fight side tnt boxes.

I don’t think it matters, but I like shooting the underwater shot first. Aim so that it just clears the corner of the boat and activate just prior to the boat. To line up this shot align the sling bands and then lower your angle slightly. I could get 18K+ 50% of the time with this approach.
For the second shot, I aimed slightly less than 45 degrees to achieve a higher attack angle. When I hit the plank above the horizontal stone, yellow bird continued on and cleared the glass from above the TNT. This created a better opportunity for action and for a stone to be projected left towards the mast. I think you must get the mast to achieve 96+.

For those greedy flingers that want more than 96k, disregard the above message. Use the basic @f91jsw strategy, but don’t shoot as flat as he says. Test your approach angle. Shoot the bird higher and don’t activate. Then start lowering your arc. When your bird starts hitting the wood under the large concrete block, lower it a few more pixels and activate late on your next shot. Your close. Play with your angle and activation from this point. You’ll find your sweet spot. Good luck.

For those less greedy, I found the shot described by @rat9 to be a good first shot (if it doesn’t work properly for a one birder) when followed up with an under water shot to easily get 96k
That’s not to say I won’t chase 100k+

@kathy rat strat worked for me. Although I didn’t go through all those ratty steps. Just flung less flat than f91jsw

@Kathy what she said. like f9jsw but a higher arc. If you get too high, the blocks won’t have the oomph to fall rightward and knock the flag over. Too low and you won’t break through the planks. Right in the middle, that’s where you wanna be. :)

@Kathy Sorry, forget I said that. I was trying to make a Goldilocks comment. Too high-too low-just right, but it came out wrong. Shoot like you’ve been doing, it’s fine. If the debris isn’t flying left to hit the tower, just try inflating a tad earlier. :)

THX, folks! The comments are really good … & fun. I just started with the whole submitting scores thing (justa couple, so far) & usually have been – over the past ~2+ years/whenever – able to ~ match the *average* score posted. It sure looks like if I read & follow particular advice on a level, it should help augment my scoring – maybe even quite a bit —- IF I can interpret the suggestions correctly. In any event, it’s GREAT FUN! So, again, THANKS! Rogue

@rldoty As a fellow PC user and guy who wastes lots of time doing automated testing of AB levels, I can tell you platform DOES matter sometimes. In every game, there are always a few levels where some small change means PC just can’t touch the iOS or Android scores. I call those PC-Cursed levels. Fortunately, the reverse is true. On other levels, PC comes out ahead, so that all pretty much evens out.

On Blossom River it’s a pretty fair mix. the only PC-cursed level I found was #12, but #5 came close. Had I not used an ipad to play those two, I’d never have hit #1.

There’s one more quirk ti watch for on the River. On levels 2,5,6 and 12 after you repeat a certain shot 50-100 times in one session, the game will get ‘stuck’ in a mode where you’ll get the same score, or a repeating series of scores every time you try that shot. That means no higher scores :) The easy fix is to close Rio completely, then restart. That seems to reset the ‘counter’ for another 50-100 flings.

Anyway, I hope that’ll save you a few headaches. Glad you’re finally submitting some scores, and good luck! :)

First bird as described above by @f91jsw , second bird over the boat and into the right side TNT. Underwater shot is fun and challenging, but I got higher scores staying out of the murky water!

I prefer the first shot the muddy water shot. Followed by the first shot of @f91jsw. However, I think that the first shot of @f91jsw can lead to a one-birder. Then ofcourse, this strat is not working.

My 1-birder ended in a lucky punch with a submerged stone block hitting the right TNT box after underwater explosion of the other one (which fell down from the broken wood plank). Top score for the moment.

Thx, Kathy. I was aiming for the contact point of big upper square block and horizontal wood plank (as proposed by @f91jsw and @rat9). Trajectory and point of activation always varies a little bid, so it might take a while before you find the right setting. A big portion of luck is also necessary. Go ahead – higher scores will be possible.

Could not get a 1 birder!!! Yellow bird to the square stone on top of ship. Will push right, and dropping debris sets off TNT. 2nd Yellow Bird, Steep low are to the right under ship, so that it surfaces in front of ship setting off the TNT. 99K
