On Sunday, the original Mighty Eagle Peter Vesterbacka visited Moscow to celebrate with some of Russia’s brightest high school graduates. While in Moscow’s Red Square, Rovio decided to announce some more information about the original “Angry Bird”…
Rovio announced today that the next episode of the original Angry Birds game will be called “Red’s Mighty Feathers“. The episode will contain 15 levels and will first appear in July! It’s not clear when in July, or if Red’s comrades in fling will make appearances to help thwart those nasty pigs.
Update: Rovio has announced that the release date will be July 3rd!
With 15 levels, this will be the shortest episode to date. That said, there’s plenty of room for speculation. With Angry Birds Go! still being teased, we may see some references and hints within Red’s Mighty Feathers. It’s also quite possible that this episode is a teaser for a new standalone game. Yes, that is pure speculation, but we’ve been right a few times in the past.
Be sure to check out our original post on the topic. Remember that Rovio originally hinted that the Red Bird would gain a power as well, so there’s still some question about how that will work exactly. Personally, I think that power will be exclusive to Red’s Mighty Feathers.
Red bird = ME? May that episode red bird act as ME and there is no scoring as teaser image?
This is possibly the reason why there isn’t any feather scoring…

I wonder if it will have to do with Red’s feathers spinning around him similarly to the “hatchling” speculation that was made when the episode was originally teased.
So Red probably will act like ME in this update and that is the reason why there is no scores counter in the episode selection screen of the previous announcement. And my be they will change the app icon like in the end of the video
Well, maybe it isn’t for AB Go…. or maybe it is! Mighty feathers might be a part of the new game or something. Still, though… if it isn’t that, then I speculate that
1) It’s a powerup
2) It is something like the Mighty Dragon episode, except this time exclusive Mighty Feathers instead of a dragon….??????!!!!!??.
Really cool performance, I like that choir singing AB music theme. Somehow I expected Red would come to Red Square in cessna.
As for new episode I hoped it would have at least 30 levels, but 15 isn’t bad. i also hope that upcoming new game Angry Birds GO wouldn’t be the end for ABO that we know and love very much. Like you I tend to believe that Red’s super power will be this specific episode exclisive.

Maybe Red Bird with some new powers, a middle sized bird between Big Brother and RB.
Maybe the introduction to a new set of levels in AB-O with feathers that when spread provide a different destruction technique.
Finally they will change the AB Original app icon. I like the new App icon.

Red Bird’ power will like Mighty Eagle. Therefore, it’s clear that we will not get scores after completing a level. That’s why there was no scores in previous teaser image. I can’t wait for this update.

That icon… is it gonna replace ABo’s current icon? That might be nice. Regarding red’s power, maybe he won’t act like ME, perhaps use his ‘feathers’ to attack? Also, just 15 levels? well… seems worth it.
Mighty Eagle doesn’t have any special power other than his strength. And So does Terrence and Red. May be these three are related somehow.

My theory:
In the last picture we saw it looked like the red feathers surrounded him. I think the feathers will be a shield. I think the reason it is a Red Bird only release is that the set of levels will have a TON of projectiles that Red will have to active his shield to get through certain parts to get the pigs.
Part 2 of this assumption is that I still believe ABGo will be a Mario Kart style of game and while all the other birds have powers in the AB games that could translate to a Mario Kart scheme RB does not. Hence the new RB shield power that I expect will be his power in ABGo.

Maybe Red bird along with the little red birds do damage as you release the little red birds by tapping the screen and they fly off in all directions. Can’t wait for this update!
I think it will bee a lot like Mighty Eagles power because Red is the original Angry Bird and that means he must have a power that can almost break anything I hope his power can break anything because it will make it allot easier to get the stars with the levels with Red in them I hope they put him in all the other chapter to because that will be very helpful.
It must have something to do with the fact that the ME always leaves a trail of feathers when he attacks. Maybe. Maybe not.

Wait…. What?? An Angry Birds update out on a Wednesday??
It’s happened only once since I’ve started playing, which was the Road Hogs update. Dr. Omega made a good point when saying they avoided doing it on Thursday because it’s a big US holiday.
So Finland actually recognizes July 4th and will respect it by not putting it out on that date?? Wow. Props to Finland. BTW, @angrybirdsspacemaster I don’t play Bad Piggies so I’m not familiar with that “Road Hogs” thing.

Looks like you may have 3 objectives: Collecting an (or multiple) Eggs, popping all pigs, and something either related to feathers or number of birds or time.

Interesting !!! And looks like we have to kill the pigs in their vehicles too. Any body guess why there are so many Red’s feather in the image, it could be related with his power. I can’t wait.
Red’s “dots” go in a swooping way. Maybe his power is dipping down at the pigs, or possibly like Blu and Jewel in Rio. This looks like Flight in the Night from Bad Piggies, so they skipped those levels in Chapter Bad Piggies for this reason. But, only one day so we don’t have to wait long!!

This now ranks as the worst Angry Birds update EVER (for me at least)….it is not Angry Birds anymore, it is just pull back, press screen and hope it hits an area close to the pig. You have no control over anything.
This update ranks among Bad Piggies, Amazing Alex etc…just crap and nothing like the rest of the Angry Birds franchise.

LOL @chucky your avatar is my favorite out of all on the ABN. I could easily imagine you raving about how terrible this update is. It’s good in my opinion, but it is different from we know as Angry Birds and don’t have much in common.
That is my point, it is not Angry Birds or any of the Angry Birds franchise. If they want to go and slot this crap in on Bad Piggies or Amazing Alex or Croods or any of those dodgy games, I honestly wouldnt care. But they are introducing it to a game I have played passionately for years, and it is nothing like that game or the franchise it is trying to represent. As you can see from the replies above yours, I am not alone in how I feel about it.

Everyone’s hat dislikes the update, when you pause the game it asks you to take a survey about the update/ angry birds….I highly recommend you feed this back to Rovio

I don’t like it either. I didn’t mind Space, or Star Wars, which introduced different powers because they were still the same type of game play, and were fun.
This is totally different. It doesn’t use the same type of skill as the other AB games.

Very bad move, Rovio. This should have been part of Bad Piggies or a new standalone game, and NOT part of ABO. It’s completely alien to ABO in concept, execution and motivation, and the only thing it really is, is in the way.

Yes it’s a joke but last year it’s become more and more apparent that we score hunters and purists are not a target group any more. We had our time and it’s over now. I doesn’t matter how high we yell Rovio couldn’t care less about us. We who help them grow their business.
@errnor63 I can imagine hardcore score addict’s disappointment with update that lack competitive side. I guess players will either get all stars on all levels and leave it for good or will try first level and came to conclusion it’s not worth of time to play it. I belong to the first group.
i am not competetive with scores, after three stars i move on. But all the thought i put into a level to figure out the shots, that is the joy. So this update where you just pull back, watch the litte arrow, then tap anywhere to have the bird drawn to the target like a magnet requires lots of speed which i dont have but not much thought. So i would be a third category i guess. Its not about doing anything to get three stars, its about knowing you figured out the puzzle and getting the three stars confirms it.
You can add me to the second group; tried the first level, didn’t like it and will not return.
Its not just about you score hunters, there is no puzzle to these levels either for those of us who play for the joy of the puzzle.

OK folks, this is totally different, not ABO at all but still is great (IMO). Obviously it should give clue about upcoming new game. What I dislike is absence of score and therefore absence of replay value. Once player solve all goals there wouldn’t be any need to play level again. That was the biggest value of ABO and reason why it is so addictive and so popular.
ABO was challenging for score, stars, strategies and the fact you could challenge your friends…this is not challenging at all. It is a waste of time, and shouldn’t be associated with a game that has an already defined game style.
If by chance you are right and this is related to Angry Birds GO, well you can be rest assured that I will not be purchasing it.
I hope they never plan on ruining another of the existing Angry Birds games (especially Star Wars or Space).
I like your point about ABO having and already defined game style. That is exactly the point. We have been learning to use these birds and improve our skills with them, and it has always been exciting to get new birds with new powers.
The new update just doesn’t fit. I felt the same way about the boss fights. They weren’t really like the AB games I liked playing so much.
As for games like Space and Star Wars, they kept the flavor of AB while changing the strategies and were fun.
Certainly not up to the standard AB. Should have been released as a standalone. I for one won’t be bothering with it
I don’t care for this update myself. I agree it should be a standalone or update to bad piggies. Will probably finish it but will not be one that I replay.
Reminds me of the boss fight levels in Space and SW which I have never really liked.
Gameplay suffers: I don’t like that you have to destroy the first contraptions over and over again to get to the difficult ones that come last in the levels.
Well the update LOOKS cool, except that everyone hates it. And that I can’t get it. Reassurance: It’s only 15 levels. And what happened to the excitement about the app logo?
Anyway, I hope this will be like AB Go, except with some sort of stars or scores or something.
