The latest update to the original Angry Birds (v1.6.0) is now available for iOS and Android devices, with more platforms coming online soon. This update includes a brand new world named Mine And Dine (links to trailer).
ANNOUNCEMENT:Angry Birds v1.6.1 is now in the Apple AppStore. This update fixes the loading issue mentioned below.
If you have issues opening Mine And Dine post-update here are some solutions to try:
- Reboot your iPhone / device and then load Angry Birds again. It may take awhile (2 -3 minutes), but it should load.
- Try turning ON airplane mode and then load Angry Birds (it still may take awhile to load). After it has loaded you can turn airplane mode off. Thanks to those commentors who recommended this solutions.
- Go into Game Center and log off. Then when Angry Birds loads click cancel when it asks whether to log in to gamecenter (thanks to the tip C.q).
- Per Rovio, “If you have problems with Mine and Dine update not starting, just wait, can take several minutes.”
- Another suggestion for users with older devices (pre iPhone 4 and including 4th Gen iPod Touch due to less RAM). Go into your Settings, tap General and set your Auto-Lock to “Never”. This will stop your “screensaver” from interrupting the loading process of game. Again, this could still take a few minutes. Remember to change your AutoLock back to your preferred setting after the game loads up. Thanks to SteveJack for bringing this to our attention.
From what we know this update includes:
- 15 new levels that take the birds deep underground
- Some 3 star scores and levels were adjusted a bit, so you may no longer have 3 stars on all levels. For example, we know the minimum 3 star score for level 3-5 has changed and the level has been slightly tweaked. This is likely in preparation for Angry Birds Sync (trying to get all devices in unison)
- There is at least one new Golden Egg. Checkout our Complete Golden Eggs Guide for the location and walkthrough.
- Additional achievements
- Bing integration has been removed.
- For those on iOS devices there is a new Mighty Eagle feather counter below each episode selection button.

A cup well earned! Even though I am A Canucks fan, we came in second and played well. Bosten played very well and earned what they have. The raid was unnecessary and shame on them. That was only a small part of the people. And there was more positive then negative in the crowed! GO CANUCKS GO!!!!!

I’ve been waiting for this so anxiously, and was so excited for it to finally show up. Unfortunately, even after rebooting my phone, it hangs at loading and eventually crashes.
Such a disappointment :(

Agrreing with Liz… Using an iPhone 3GS and I get nothing but crashes after being stuck at the loading screen for a minute or two. Strongly disappointed but keeping hope alive for a miraculous recovery.
You might try killing off all running processes first (or rebooting your phone). I tried to run it directly after the update, and it took about 2 full minutes to load on my iPhone4.
This update has removed my 3 stars on level 3-5 down to 2 stars. Anyone else had this happen?

A score of 100k is now only 2 stars. Still working on 3 star score.
Rovio posted in the update that a few level star-scores were adjusted. This seems to be one.

Yep, I have 98k score – 1 star. Now I did it with 108k – 3 stars.
Oh no..level 3-5 is definitely in my list of top 10 most challenging levels in all of Angry Birds…it’s hard to go back to try to three-star that level again… the trauma that that level induced me is too much to bear :)
It’s a lot easier now – the entire roof and the board above the TNT, which used to be wood, are all glass now. Super-easy to get a score of 110k+ with 2 birds.
Same here, just that it was even harder for me to get three stars (for some reason, the PC version need at least 110,000 or something) which made keep trying. So I guess I don’t have to worry about it. BTW, don’t you think it would be funny if I lost my golden egg and achievement from GameCenter and Crystal?
Wow, me too! I had 102,590. I thought that should be more than 2 stars. What is the new minimum for 3 stars on regular AB 3-5? BirdLeader should update that number.

I had 104k, which was still only 2 stars. I finally got 108860 and received three stars.
The golden egg is above the ledge in level 15-12.
The update crashes for me; it either sticks on the splash screen or drops out after just a few seconds.
This is with a 2G iPod touch running iOS 4.2.1.
Some people have reported this. Try restarting your device and seeing if that helps.
I’ve already tried restarting to no avail.
Try starting AB while in Airplane Mode, then switching back to normal mode once AB has got going

Can someone else confirm: The Mine and Dine Golden Egg is numbered at 23. Wondering if either there’s an earlier egg or if the Football is now #22 even tho it only shows as a Football.
Confirmed, I believe you’re correct, the football must be 22.

Oh that’s good to know. I compared it to the PC version and it was indeed changed. I hope the Mighty Eagle feather scoring changes too…some of the levels seems impossible to achieve 100% total destruction.
I think there was only ever one level that was literally impossible to eagle feather on. 7-2 or something. I’d have to do some searching around, but they were all certainly possible for several months now.
6-4 WAS impossible, but that was fixed a long time ago. We have forum board where users request Mighty Eagle Total Destruction walkthroughs.

Had to redo 3-5, 99930 was no londer 3 star, but 2 star. Don’t think the strat has changed much, use two birds, drop them through the roof, activating the TNT. Maybe a level has been added to the house? I easily got 101k when my second bird hit the TNT and demolished the house, +10k for the third bird and 111k = 3 stars again.
Easily 3 starred and eagle feathered everything new. I literally only had to redo a few levels. Maybe it’s just what’s going to happen after we’ve all been playing angry birds for so long, but there just wasn’t a challenge imo.
STILL no logical check to pick up achievements you’ve clearly earned (AKA I still have the 100 and 200 eagle feather achievement, but do not have the 50 feather achievement)
Still no tracking of any kind for the smash maniac achievement.
I think the changes are in preparation of Angry Birds Sync, which Rovio has said might be out towards the end of summer. In order for sync to properly work all levels need to be in sync across all devices.
I’ll second that. I have all feathers (except for Mine and Dine; haven’t tried em yet) but only have the 200 achievement, not the 50 or 100. However, I transfered my data from iPhone to iPad and that’s where I lost it.
Same thing happens to me in Cut the Rope. I three starred the whole game and have the Golden Scissors but no Silver Scissors.
101K is 3-star? So why is my 103070 score now only two stars?
If you read @Matt’s post carefully, he scored 101k with 1 bird remaining. Thus his final score was 111k.
We think the minimum 3-star score for 3-5 is now 108k.
I had two stars with 106’ish and three with 108,150, so I’m pretty sure 108,000 is correct.
Gaah, it hangs at loading and then crashes. I´ve rebooted several times but nothing happens. Help?

Same here… it was tantalizingly close after I rebooted (instead of a blank blue/black screen hanging forever, I got the Angry Birds screen and “loading…”) but then THAT hung forever.
Nothing works with me either :( Only if I reboot it and start all over again :(
Update — I tried everything suggested here and nothing worked. I tried a few more times just in case. I did eventually get in by a) being in Aiplane mode and b) restarting the iPod touch. I went through all 15 levels in one sitting (fun! didn’t three-star them all though) and then closed it, thinking since I was in, I was in.
Then I just got a notification from Angry Birds saying that the Mighty Eagle is back in action, or something. Clicked on that, and it did the hanging thing again. So as of right now I can’t get back in. I will go through the whole rigamarole again later (Airplane mode, restart, repeat), but definitely annoying. Maybe this is why it took so long to come out after Rovio submitted it to Apple. (Trying to fix this bug and mostly but not entirely succeeding.)
what about android?
Should be on Amazon Appstore any time now, and then on Android Market probably this time next week. My observation is that Amazon has exclusivity of Android Angry Birds updates for about 1 week.
It’s out for Android Market now, guess it must just be RIO that the Amazon Appstore has the exclusive on first updates. Oh and losing stars on 3-5 also happens on Android
Yes, just saw it land on Android Market. Supposedly it should be all versions of the game, but who knows. Mine and Dine hasn’t even update on Amazon yet, but we suspect it’s been submitted. Nonetheless, enjoy the update! (Let us know if you had difficulty opening the app, or if it’s iOS specific.)

I’m having some problems starting AB too. I updated it on my iPod and it crashed. I tried to reboot it several times. Nothing happened. But if a just remove it and download it again, it works, but I have to do it all over again. I tried to run it while in airplane mode several times, still nothing. I’m playing on an iPod touch 2G with iOS 4.2.1. Anyone any tips??

It’s the only one we know of so far. The quote from their update seems to imply a few changes, but not sure where.
So when I update I won’t have 3 star anymore ….So do I lose the golden egg associated with 3 staring poached eggs until I get it again or do I still get to keep it? Thanks
No you don’t lose anything: You don’t lose the golden egg for 3-star Poached Eggs; You don’t lose the GameCenter achievement.
If you already had 108k (which we think is the new minimum score) then you’re still at 3-stars. Otherwise, most people had around 98k or 100k, which is 1- and 2-stars, respectively. There’s no real issue with it, just something you have to replay.

level 10-14 for me now has 0 stars even though I have finished this chapter now that change has made me laugh!

The layout in 1-12 also changed. You can easily increase your score by 10k.

Still have all feathers in all levels and all 3 stars (after I replayed 3-5 for 112,000). Everything else is fine it seems. Had the hardest time 3 star level 15-3…what a pain! I restarted my iphone 3gs and tried it…it took a long time from the loading screen, but eventually loaded.
Yep, i’m another 3-5 “victim” since i had 98k. Suspect they tweaked the level to make it easier, since i got 113k on 2nd attempt
Weird I just downloaded a new version of angry birds Rio from amazon app store version1.2.1 but unfortunately there was no new levels. I dont think anything really changed maybe they fixed a bug or something ….
I figured out what they’d changed! They got rid of the dizzying fore and backgrounds.( In carnival upheaval) so now the level is still!

Finally it loaded. Here’s what i did. I just let it keep loading and it loaded after a few minutes. Try this if you can’t get yours to load.
I’m so disappointed! I just can’t get this new version to load. I too am using 2nd gen touch and all I get is a black screen when I open the game. I’ve tried turning my iPod off, resetting it, opening the game on aeroplane mode. Nothing is working. Does anyone have any advice at all?

That wasn’t the case with me. I wait and wait and then it just bounces back to the home screen. Waiting does NOT solve the problem.
Level 3-5 is a lot easier now. Btw, I’d anyone else still waiting for smash maniac? It’s been so long!!!!
People are torn on whether or not the achievement is bugged. Personally I lean towards bugged. I’ve thrown so many hours into Angry Birds it’s riduclous. Surely I’m either one block away and/or the achievement is bugged.
So much replay value on a super cheap game, a lot of console game makers should be ashamed imo but that’s getting off subject :)
The achievement system itself is definitely bugged (people have the 100 or even 200 feather achievements, but are missing some of the lower value ones which is logically impossible).
Personally, I just wish they’d do a tracker. I know it’s possible, some of my other games have started showing trackers on the achievements, letting you know how close or far away you are.
I was thinking the same thing earlier. Got loads of games that show you the percentage you’ve achieved towards a particular achievement. Still, who are we to question Rovio?!!!

Have tried absolutely everything. Running airplane mode, turning off and leaving off. Every time, it hangs on black screen for 10 secs, goes past clickgamer, then rovio then hangs on the angry birds loading screen for a few mins (up to 5) before returning back to the main iPhone screen.
Running iOS 4.2.1, iPhone 3G if it could possibly help anyone help me!
Also, my Angry Birds Free started closing after about 10 seconds of usage, now hangs on the loading screen as with the main game.
I’m starting to get a little nervous that with all the issues iOS users are having that they may delay release on Amazon App Store to double check for bugs!

Go to gamecenter and log off. Then when ab loads click cancel when it asks whether to log in to gamecenter. That’s what worked for me. Looks lik gc is the problem – crashed sooo many times when I tried to view ab achievements

I’m suprised that so many iOS users have problems with the new update. I downloaded mine form the Android Market with absoutley no problems and it loads like normal too (no 2-3 minute delay). What could be causing the problem?
