Since it’s release on iOS devices the Mighty Eagle has been shrouded with mystery. This article and Q&A aims to clear up some of that confusion.
So, what exactly is the Mighty Eagle? Put simply, the Mighty Eagle is an in-app purchase that can help you pass a level. Â But that is not all. Â It also adds a new dimension to Angry Birds — in a way it’s a game inside the game (more on that later).

The Mighty Eagle is currently available on the following platforms (last updated July 2013):

Important Disclaimer
Foremost, the Mighty Eagle is a separate in-app purchase for each app. In the original Angry Birds, Seasons, and Rio, a 1-time purchase will gain unlimited use, per the Q&A that appears below. In Space and Star Wars, “Mighty usage” is a consumable IAP and subject to different pricing. The Q&A below is not 100% accurate for these “consumable Mighties”, and you should refer to our Classroom Lessons for additional references and details.
Questions and Answers.
After purchasing the Mighty Eagle you can to use it to pass a level once per hour, or, if you’ve already passed a level you can use it as often as you like.  Using it will not yield any stars or points, but rather it calculates a percentage of destruction, with 100% destruction being Total Destruction.  When you do receive Total Destruction on a given level you will receive a feather.  Ultimately your goal is to obtain a feather on every single level of the game.  On some levels this is NOT an easy task.  Fortunately we have some video walkthroughs available for the most challenging levels.
Okay, so how does it work from within the game? After you purchase the Mighty Eagle you have to activate it from within a particular level. Â This is simply done by tapping the eagle eye icon that appears next to the pause button on every level. It’s important to note that you can then use it in conjunction with your other birds (actually, on many levels you can’t receive Total Destruction without using them together).
After you activate the Mighty Eagle your slingshot is loaded with a can of sardines. You then hurl the can towards the piggies mocking you on the other side. After which, you wait a couple seconds…then…BLAMOH! T he Mighty Eagle drops out of the sky and smashes everything. At that point your destruction is calculated based on the damage sustained. How much destruction really depends on how strategically you place you can of sardines, use of your other birds, and on some levels bit of luck. After you’ve used the Mighty Eagle the level selection icons display an eagle graphic to signify he’s been used.
That’s pretty much it. Â We’ll use the Q & A section below to answers some of the more common questions we receive. Â A big thanks to Rovio for chiming in on some of them.
- Q. What devices currently support the Mighty Eagle?
- A. Right now the Mighty Eagle is only available to purchase on iOS devices (ipad, iPhone, and iPod Touch). NOOK Color owners can access the Mighty Eagle from with Barnes & Noble, but there currently is no option to purchase. Rovio has stated many times that expects the Mighty Eagle will eventually land on most devices and come to different versions of the game (like Angry Birds Seasons).
Update: This list has since been expanded. See the full list above. - Q. I am having a hard time passing a level. Do you have Mighty Eagle walkthroughs available?
- A. Yes, we have many video walkthroughs for some of the most challenging levels.
- Q. Will this yield 3 stars every time?
- A. Per Rovio, “Using the Eagle doesn’t give you any stars, but the scoring goes into the Eagle mode. The destruction is calculated in percentages, and getting a 100% Total Destruction awards you with an eagle feather for that level. This gives you a reason to revisit all the old levels again, even if you’ve got three stars on all of them. So, when skipping a level with the Eagle, you still have to come back and earn the three stars in the regular fashion.”
- Q. How will affect leaderboards? It seems kind of unfair to rank these people higher than those who passed the level without the Mighty Eagle.
- A. Per Rovio via Tweet, “No effect on leaderboards”. Per Rovio, via comments below, “The Mighty Eagle can be used with the regular set of birds, and this might be required to maximize your Eagle score in some levels (or, first destroy some difficult-to-reach blocks with the regular birds before launching the final blast with the Eagle.”
- Q. Does this incentive Rovio to make the upcoming levels harder, if not almost impossible?
- A. No. Â This question was asked before the Mighty Eagle was really understood. Since it’s not supported on all devices this just wouldn’t make since. Â Also, as we’ve shown above, the Mighty Eagle is like a game within the game, so there is no affect on the normal game play.
- Q. How much will it cost?
- A. “The price point is $0.99/£0.59/€0.79” per app.
- Q. What do you get when you purchase the Mighty Eagle?
- A. The Mighty Eagle comes with two features:
1. It allows you to skip a level in the event you’re stuck and just want to move on.
2. Â It’s basically a new “mini-game” where your goal is to obtain feathers by receiving Total Destruction. - Q. Is it a single use item or do you only have to purchase it once?
- A. You only have to purchase it ONCE per app. Per Rovio, “The Eagle is NOT one use only, but it ‘recharges’ for a time before it can be used to skip a level again. However, the Eagle can be used repeatedly in any level you’ve already managed to unlock.”

Do you have to pay for the eagle every time you use it.Once you have bought it.

The “mini game” I assume is the 3 Achievement scores totaling 60 points for collecting feathers.. Feathers are scored for each 100% total destruction in each level.. You score 10 points for getting 50 feathers, 20 points for 100 feathers and 30 points for collecting 200 feathers…
I love the idea if it but I’m using an iPod touch but every time I try to buy it it just stays on the purchasing sign (where the circle thing keeps spinning) please help
First try restarting both your phone and the game, and see if that helps.
I had this happen too. Be sure you have In-App purchases enabled by going to Settings -> General -> Restrictions then scroll down until you see In-App purchases. You also need to be sure you have wi-fi enabled.
Download it to your Itunes on your computer, then sync it. That’s what I had to do.

Why, in the app, does it ask if I wish to purchase ONE mighty eagle when you only need to pay once and have it forever (just once an hour)? It is very misleading as it sounds like you have to pay 59p to use it just for the level you were stuck on. I suggest re-wording it to something like ‘Do you wish to purchase a Mighty Eagle to help you with levels?’ as I had to do an Internet search just to double check that it was a permanent thing which could be reused.
Totally with u, I thought u had to purchase it everytimee u use it as well, so panicked when I realised my daughter had been using them!
Not sure, but I know for a fact you only get charged once. There would be A LOT of poor people if you didn’t.

It is an InApp purchase, so it is separate.
The eagle is just whats needed to give the ANGRY BIRDS the advantage they need over the evil green pigs

I don’t. They have stated it will come to those platforms, but I haven’t heard when. My guess is it would come to the Mac first, since it’s likely easier to process the payments.

When you are in a level, tap on the eye next to the pause button. You’ll get a sardine can to toss for the MEagle to eat. He loves those sardines. ;)
Ok….has the Mighty Eagle been released for the Android yet? I need to destroy little green pigs….particularly ones in helmets….grrr…..
Unfortunately it has not, so the pigs get to live another day.

I have purchased the Mighty Eagle but it isn’t there. I tried restarting both the game and my iPod Touch and doing the restrictions thing. I also tried when in range of a Wi-Fi connection. Is it not supported on 3.1.3 firmware? That would be sucky since I have the game but not this add-on. Any help and I will give cake :)
Hey Jonny, same exact here. Purchased the Mighty Eagle but nothing there. When downloading it stays on the spinning circle thing and that’s it. Tried restarting, rebooting, both game and iPod, In-App purchases already enabled under restrictions, I’m constantly connected to Wifi. I am jailbroken on 3.1.2 firmware. I have a very strong inkling it’s only working with OS 4.0 and higher now. Looks like we just wasted $0.99 buddy. :\
This is usually related to having InApp purchases disabled in the Settings panel (Settings > General > Restrictions > In-App Purchases needs to be ON)
I had the same problem with the Mighty Eagle not finishing the download,but when I hooked up with my pc, it all worked perfectly. Now the eagle can fly!!

I do believe you’re correct that it is a pre iOS 4.0 bug of sorts. May I ask why you haven’t updated? Is it because you still have a 3G? From what I’ve heard the jump to 4.2 significantly helped with the 3G being slower than a granny in high heels walking up hill. I mean yeah it’s still gonna be pretty slow but let’s face it smart phones evolve even quicker than computers nowadays. Just curious.
I may just have to update if I want this thing. I haven’t gone for 4.2 cos my iPod is jailbroken and I haven’t had time to find and do that again for 4.2. If there’s no known solution I’ll just mosey along without the Mighty Eagle until I can find the time to update it.

And then another thing that can be helpful is the jailbreak backup tool, AptBackup. It saves all your jailbreak preferences for a quicker simpler update. Good Luck!

Guys, it worked. I downloaded it to my computer and sync’ed and voila, it worked! And I’m on Firmware 3.1.2. Good stuff, thanks! To answer the question why I haven’t upgraded to 4.2, it’s just too much of a pain in the you know what to completely redo everything. Redo the whole jailbreaking process, reload thousands of songs and apps, both normal app and cydia, etc. Thanks again all!

When you buy the Mighty Eagle for $.99, you can:
Use it once every hour to skip a level which you have 0 stars on
Use it as many times as you want in a level which you have at least 1 star on (the minigame is for Total Destruction)

Mighty Eagle alert notifications can now be turned off. Amen! Here’s how on the iPhone: Settings > Notifications > Angry Birds > Alerts Off
Angry bird (iphone) mighty eagle in-app purchase will “work” on a copy from the same user for angry birds HD or I need to purchase it again?
I actually just sent Rovio an email asking just that, but Apple has said that (on their end) it’s not the same app, so it will be a separate purchase.

“Once you buy Mighty Eagle to a specific platform (in this case iPhone), you can use it for example on another iPhone. However, the Mighty Eagle for iPhone is not compatible with iPad HD Angry Birds. Therefore, if you wish to have Mighty Eagle on your iPad, you need to download the compatible version.”

Mighty Eagle is only available for iOS devices. If you are using iOS, make sure you have in-app purchases enabled in your device settings. Open up Angry Birds and click the eagle eye on the front page.

what does it mean by “total destruction” ? In some levels I destroy all except a block and I got 99% score but in another level I have 2 pieces undestroy but I get 100% score!
So what is total destruction?
Total Destruction is some level-specific amount of destruction. Some levels seem to require every piece to be destroyed, others can allow quite a bit to survive.
Its funny. :) You will put a sardine on where you want to launch the mighty eagle then Boom! The Mighty Eagle will eat the sardine where you launched it then it goes away! And its big to crush everything!
If I purchase the mighty eagle within the “angry birds” app will I be able to use it in “angry birds seasons” and “angry birds rio”?
Right now, no. The Mighty Eagle has not yet landed on Seasons or Rio. However, this is expected to happen very soon (within the next few months). Even better, Rovio tweeted that the Mighty Eagle will be a one-time purchase across all apps. That is, 99cents buys you all three Eagles, instead of having to buy each separately.
Total destruction is not as easy as it seems. It looks like you have destroyed everything but you still get only 99% destruction. Very frustrating .
