Back in March, we announced that a “Cloud Sync System” was making its way into the Angry Birds world. (If you don’t remember, click here for our post.) Angry Birds v3.2.0 has just been released and it appears that the system is ready to go! Thus far, the system has popped up on iOS and Android via Google Play, as these are the only platforms for which v3.2.0 is available. As the update lands elsewhere, we will keep our eyes peeled for Rovio Accounts there as well.
Over the past few months, Rovio has been slowly rolling out the Cloud System regionally, starting in the Scandinavian region of Europe (biased much, Rovio?) and then extending through some of eastern Europe. Presumably, Rovio wanted to do some quasi-live bug testing without rolling out the system to millions of people in the larger market regions, such as North America.
Update: Rovio announced on 19 July that Rovio Accounts is now available for the original Angry Birds for iOS and Android worldwide. Their next step is to expand the feature to more titles, and likely more platforms.
Below sort of repeats a lot of what was said in our original post, but it is worthwhile to mention again.
Introduction
First and foremost, we have to tip our hat to Rovio for creating what we thought would be a utopian system that bordered on impracticality. Rovio Accounts uses a level-by-level sync! What exactly does this mean? It means that each time you upload your scores to your Rovio Account, the system will check your score on each individual level. If the server has a score that’s better than your device, your device will be overwritten on that level. If your device’s score beats the server, the overwrite will go the other way. Basically, this is an ideal system for users who fling on multiple devices.
Of course, no Cloud system is perfect, so proceed with typical caution (I’ll talk more about this below).
We greatly look forward to seeing if/when the system lands on other platforms and how it works between different operating systems. We outlined a few of our preliminary concerns in the previous post and hope to answer some of them soon.
Getting Started
Step 1: Register or sign in to your Rovio Account. If you made an account during the “gamma release” of this system, or in “The Croods”, you should be able to use it here as well. Registration is super straightforward: Give your email, set a password, fill in your birthday, and be done with it. When signing in, if either your email address or password is wrong, the system will tell you.
Oh, one thing I should add. Don’t try to fool Rovio by providing a fake email. You have to confirm your email address within 48-hours of registering.
Step 2: To the Cloud! Once you’re logged in, you will be prompted “Add scores, stars, and feathers from this device to your account?” If this is your first time logging in, we recommend you start with your primary device so you can push that data up into the Cloud. One of our major concerns has been squashed: You will also be asked whether you want to upload your progress to the cloud.
Step 3: Dissendium! Open Angry Birds on another device and log in. Any progress in the Cloud should be pulled onto your device! (Note: You may need to logout and log back in to trigger the download. A small price to pay.)
Be Safe: Manually Backup!
Disclaimer: The below information is based on very preliminary tests on iOS only. Proceed at your own risk. Always backup via iTunes first! We will try to firm up the details over the next few days with direct input from Rovio’s gurus.
Sync systems, especially new sync systems built in the Cloud, are not perfect. So we highly encourage you, before you proceed, to consult our Ultimate Backup Tutorial. Some platforms are easier than others to backup manually, but it’s worth a few minutes to save your hours of work!
Even after your use the Cloud, you can still backup manually to a degree — at least on iOS, which is all we’ve had the chance to test. After you pull data from the Cloud, you will have two additional “highscores” and “settings” LUA files. These new LUA files contain a hashed string of characters (e.g. ‘highscores_<hash>.lua’ and ‘settings_<hash>.lua’). The “hash” is a long hexadecimal number, most likely unique to your Rovio Account.
I don’t have a Rovio Account yet
Proceed as in our tutorial. You can backup, transfer, and restore as you always have.
I have a Rovio Account and already synced
To backup: Open DiskAid and backup highscores.lua, settings.lua, highscores_<hash>.lua, and settings_<hash>.lua.
To transfer and/or restore: Logout of your Rovio Account and completely close the game via the Multitasking Bar. Open DiskAid and copy the four above files to your new device. Open Angry Birds on your new device and login. Your new progress should be there, and you can move it up to the Cloud if you want.
Oh no! I downloaded progress from the Cloud but didn’t want to!
Hopefully, you haven’t done anything more since downloading the progress and freaking out. Your old progress may be salvageable if you haven’t opened any levels. Logout of your Rovio Account and completely close the game via the Multitasking Bar. Open DiskAid and delete the two <hash> LUA files. Open Angry Birds and your old progress should be back.
We are still sorting out a few details about this release, and we still have a few questions outstanding. But as the system rolls out for other platforms, we should be able to iron them out.
Is this available in all Angry Birds apps? I don’t see it in any. I’m in Canada
Only ABo At this time. I don’t know about Canada, all I know is that it is now available in the US
@Joey, @amslimfordy, i am in canada, used it to move abo from old galaxy tab to new ipad. Worked perfectly. BUT game center choked and is stuck with 7,000,000 points missing, and half of acheivements missing. ** please, no need to reply with suggestions, i have uninstalled and reinstalled abo on the ipad 5 times trying different ways to trigger gc to reload without success and phone call to apple was useless also.
@grammyK I have reported the achievements issue to Rovio. I believe I know the cause of certain ones not popping up, and included this theory in my email to them.
While on the topic, could you shoot me a list of which achievements DIDN’T log that you think should have?
Regarding Leaderboard points, GameCenter’s leaderboards are pretty terribly buggy. I forget the exact formula (maybe @PointDexter5 is the guy who knows it?) but I think
@amslimfordy , i added up the total scores on the episode select screen of episodes 1 thru 8, poached eggs thru bad piggies and it exactly matches the score in gc. So, i am happy with that now :-). I have sent list of all other missing things and attempts to fix and give permission to use in any reports you may do on the issue in the future. Thanks for work you are doing on this.
It erased all my red’s mighty feathers data!
@Doodle-Sandwich If you log out, does that data come back? (Make sure you DON’T play any levels with this buggy data)
Only in the U.S ?
I’m from Mexico ._.
Not only in the US. We’re just making the announcement because it has landed in the US. If it’s not in your country yet, then it will likely be soon.
Dumb question: I’ve looked on rovio.com and inside AB on my iPhone and I can not find a place to register. Can you tell me where I go to do this? Sorry if this is a dumb question but I can not seem to find it!
See the topmost picture in this post. On the front screen of the original Angry Birds, bottom-center of the screen, there are two small buttons. One is to go to the Power Up Shop, and the other is to log in to or register for your Rovio Account.
my ABO Android version doesn’t have such a small button on the bottom-center of the screen. There’s only one button of PU shop. my ABO is not HD (like the screenshot above) but just a free version (so ads interrupt the gameplay often) so isn’t it available?
According to Rovio, it should be available for all Android devices running ABo v3.2.0. Restarting your device may help, along with an active WiFi connection.
Thanks AMslimfordy, later I noticed I’ve activated a firewall function of Avast! Antivirus app onto ABO to prevent advertisements. Actually it had been almost useless not to interrupt ads, but apparently it worked against Rovio Account button update. I found the button after disabling it and re-started ABO and I could successfully register an account. Thanks a lot!
Will this feature be available for other Angry Birds games (Seasons, Star Wars, Rio, Space)? Just wondering
We have no inside knowledge about this, but assuming the system operates well, I would imagine it will appear for all active platforms and all active apps.
System must be REALLY busy, earlier today Red tried to connect with planet earth, and I got an error message, now the dotted line just keeps bouncing back and forth.
Wow just in time I just upgraded from my Droid Razr Maxx to a Samsung Galaxy S4 and was so worried about losing my scores. I had them back up on my table. So I register from my table and then downloaded game on my S4 and it back up and restored with no problems. Yeah now cant wait for the other games can do this. We all spend way to many hours playing Angry Birds I really didn’t want to start over again.
Thank you Rovio
i am going to raise the ante on dumb questions and ask: what is the difference between “stars, feathers, and scores”, vs. “progress”?
Is v3.2.0 correct? I downloaded it when RMF came. No such option. Live in Scandinavia btw..
v3.2.0 (Red’s Mighty Feathers) is the latest version of Angry Birds. We are not aware of which countries actively have this feature, however.
Okay, I just registered and it automatically uploaded my scores without a prompt.
I’m afraid to click on it to find out, but what is the red button?
@bonneypattycat What red button? Where is it located?
Lower left on the progress screen. Is it for logging out?
I’m a little nervous as I have no other Apple device to backup to.
That’s logging out, yes.
Works well. Activated my iPod (where I play primarily) and then somewhat nervously activated my iPad. In cases where my iPad had the higher scores, that is the score that is used now for both devices. As a further test, I played Poached Eggs level 1-20 on the iPad and increased my score from 56K to 61K. It took about 5 minutes or so for the iPod to update, but it did update with the new 61K score. Only problem now is I’ll have to go back and check my leaderboard scores, because I was only entering the scores form the iPod. Easy way to move up the rankings a little bit :) Can’t wait for Seasons, Space and Star Wars to have this feature as well. Thanks Rovio! And thanks ABN for all of the helpful information to get this set up :)
Happy to report that it works on my Kindle Fire (I live in France). Now waiting to be able to sync with my PC, and it would be outstanding (no feathers, obviously, but I’ve got some better 3-star scores on PC).
@amslimfordy (and @birdleader and @sal9 too)
I’m going to take up the space here just to thank all y’all for what you do to keep ABN the best! There’s only one site I need for all things AB.
@amslimfordy My Android phone died a few weeks ago. I had backed up my scores with Angry Birds Backup by Rice Labs. My new company supplied Android phone came with Jelly Bean os so I couldn’t restore my scores using that app. I also just bought a Nook hd+ which has Ice Cream Sandwich. I installed ABO v 3.2.0 on both. I was able to restore scores on the Nook. The phone shows the Rovio registration icon but the nook does not so I can’t get Progress to the cloud to transfer them to the phone. Any reason why the Nook doesn’t have the icon to access the cloud?
@howie-k Sorry, I don’t have this information. But to my knowledge, NOOK does not have v3.2.0 yet.
@amslimfordy I downloaded it yesterday from Google Play and just checked it. It’s definitely 3.2.0 and does not have the icon on it. Guess I’ll have to wait and see if it shows up.
Thanks. This is my favorite site. Thanks for all the work you guys put into it.
I have the same problem.
I have the icon on my phone but not on my tablet or on the android emulator on PC. I can’t test the transfer… We”ll wait …
Just be patient, guys, even my Galaxy mini and my fake iPhone 5 (running android) still doesn’t have that function. Seems to be this function doesn’t exist on several countries yet.
I sent an email to Rovio about this and got this reply:
Unfortunately Rovio account is not available for Nook devices. This is why you can see the registration icon on your Android device, but not on your Nook. We’ll hopefully introduce the account on other platforms in the future, but cannot disclose any plan at this moment. We’re sorry if this has inconvenienced your gaming experience.
Best regards,
Pilvi
Rovio Support Team
Thanks for the post on the cloud and keeping the members informed. Worked great for iPad. Now I feel better that something can back up the results. Still will use DiskAid but their icons for each game are getting hard to view because of their small size. Also the file names for the games over the past year have changed as new updates were released.
Will this potentially make it possible to transfer game saves from PC to iOS or Android? And vice versa?
Ideally we would think so, but no official word yet from Rovio.
I can confirm it definitely works from iOS to Android and vice versa. I played a level on an android phone and it showed up on my ipad. I then played another level on my iPad and it showed up on the iphone. If you find it doesn’t, hit the account icon to force a sync from each device.
This really changes how I’ll play now. I had slowed up because of possibly losing progress. But, now, if I stay with an Android phone or go to iOS later, I’ll have my AB progress. I just hope it’s implemented on all versions of the game!
correction… I played on the iPad and then showed up on the Android phone…. but, it works because platforms perfectly and quickly.
Thanks @martyedwards. I’m not sure if someone else had reported yet about iOS <–> Android, but it’s definitely good to know!
PC/Mac <–> mobile may be a little more challenging in other apps, such as Seasons, where the levels don’t quite match up 1-to-1. But time will tell!
Finally I have the same progress on my iphone and iPad.
My achievements didn’t transfer in gamecenter though.
@danbarth – I play on iPad and have just gotten a new iphone 4 and I am going to register but was wondering if you meant that the achievements are still showing in GC on your usual device but they just didn’t transfer and/or show up on the second device? In other words…you didn’t LOSE all of your achievements…they just didn’t transfer? They are just showing up on one device…Is that correct? Thank you in advance ;-)
@Lesleyg – I have two versions in Game Center. Angry birds (iPhone) and angry birds hd (iPad). When I loaded my account on my iPad, it transferred all of my progress. But Game Center only gave me half of the achievements on AB hd. It won’t give me the achievements for completing any of the episodes, but the ones for having 3 stars on every level are there.
Game Center still shows all of my achievements for my progress on my iphone though.
Thanks @DanBarth ;-) So I’m assuming that your iphone was your “main” platform before? Or maybe that’s irrelevant? I guess I’m trying to find out if I create the Rovio Cloud account from my iPad, which is my main platform, do you think my GC will remain intact there…then once transferred to new iphone, I should expect only the scores of course and the “3 starring levels achievements” will appear on the new phone’s GC app but should remain intact on my original CG app on iPad? Sorry to sound ignorant, lol…I am tech challenged, lol ;-)
P.S. I did manually back-up my iPad today via iExplorer on my laptop so that gives me some peace of mind!
Thanks again for your help and for getting back to me so quickly :-)))
@lesleyg – Yeah, I only played on my iphone before. And everything is still intact on it. It seems to just be a discrepancy in GC since the iPhone and iPad have different versions of the app.
Thanks @DanBarth ;-) I was just reading a previous post from someone on the “transfer progress from one device to another” section on the site and I was going to tell you that it seems like he had the same problem when transferring progress from iphone to iPad and I believe the problem only existed because his iphone app was non HD and the iPad app was HD…Perhaps this is also why it happened this way for you? On the iphones, do we have the option to get the AB games in HD? I have never owned an iphone so I wasn’t sure ;-)
This is now available in Australia :D
Now it´s available in Sweden! :)
And Denmark too
@AMslimfordy, sorry for being ignorant in this matter, Rovio has announced just some time past on Facebook that Rovio account is globally available now. I want to know, will the account option just “appear” in the app or will there be an update? Btw I don’t still have this option yet.
It should be rolling out worldwide now. If you have v3.2.0 of ABo, it will appear in your app.
Rovio Account now available worldwide on Android and iOS:
http://www.rovio.com/en/news/blog/344/rovio-account-now-available-worldwide-on-android-and-ios
Thank you @chriss, I know that. I found this out in the morning itself. But the problem is I still don’t see the account option(I have v3.2.0 Android). On their facebook page Rovio has said “to boot AB”. But it still doesn’t work. If I clear data it would probably work, but then my scores would be deleted too. Kind of defeats the whole purpose for making an account in the first place.
I am stoked that they finally added this feature. I have been waiting for a very long time. So far I am very pleased except for the power ups not transferring and the fact they disabled power ups on ABO.
Hello @amslimfordy ;-) Thank you for creating all of this wonderful info for us!!! I just got an iphone 4 and I apologize in advance for my ignorant questions but…First of all, I DID back up all of my AB games via iExplorer today, so that’s done. Now should I download all the AB HD apps on my iphone first…then go about “transferring data” per your instructions on the site for that, then register the new Cloud Sync on my iPad which I have the HD versions (where available)and then they should “match”? Is this the correct order I should do this?
I wasn’t sure if I need to download new AB games on my new iphone because I am going to be transferring my Android contacts, files, etc., to my new iphone first, which I have never done before so I wasn’t sure if I have the option to transfer my AB apps as well or do they need to be re-downloaded on new iphone, then go on to transfer the progress from iPad to iPhone via your transfer tutorial page then create Cloud and sync?
On another note…I read some previous post on the transfer tutorial pages you have up and it seems that the GC issue of not all achievements showing up after syncing with Cloud and also transferring progress between devices, may be due to one device running SD version and the other HD version…Do you think that’s what it is?
A Big thank you in advance for your guidance. You are truly appreciated!!!
@lesleyg
I’ll talk about GameCenter first, because its perhaps easier. The HD vs SD apps are logged separately, but the issue with achievements not registering would still be separate. I’ve reported it to Rovio and am working with them on it.
As for your situation with transferring progress, it’s really up to you. If you have backed up your data already, then it’s pretty much six-in-one / half-dozen-the-other. I’d say using the Cloud would be fine and, if there’s any issues, I can help you override the Cloud Sync for a manual transfer.
Not sure if I got everything. Let me know!
Thank you @amslimfordy ;-) I guess we’re in “wait and see” mod on the achievements…but that’s ok because they should remain intact on my iPad which is my main platform ;-)
As for the transfer of progress…I think you’re saying I don’t need to manually transfer now that the Cloud sync is out…it should automatically update my scores from iPad to new iphone…That’s great and should be the easiest and actually saves me that step…It’s very good to know if it doesn’t work properly you can assist with re-doing it manually ;-)
Lastly the only question I have left is…A really silly one I’m sure…Will I need to download the AB games on my new iPhone prior to Cloud registration or are they able to be part of either my data transfer from my Android to iPhone (I don’t know if Apps are transferable like contacts, etc.) OR do they automatically “appear” once I’ve downloaded the Cloud and sync? I hope you understand my question ;-)
Thanks again for all of your help slim ;-)))
@lesleyg I think you’ll have to buy the iPhone apps. They run $.99 each, though Rio is free now.
Thanks again @amslifordy for all of your help ;-)
@amslimfordy
For manually Backup it is important to copy the 4 .lua files from Disc Aid to the New Device, right? I tried it several times but i only copied the settings and highscore lua and not the hash files! For what are the hash important? The scores shows all right in ingame progress. But the Scores and Archievement in GC will not be synched!
Hope for a answer, thanks CC
… further i updated the Data Files on my Windows PC. If i copied some Files from Disk Aid to PC some Files names are to long for Windows. It is One file in Folder Library -> Caches -> Game Kit -> …
I renamed the file. Is that a probleme?
(1) The hash files are the Cloud data files. It is good to back these up. If you are transferring to another device with Rovio Accounts, transferring the hash files should guarantee that the Cloud data will at least have this data as a minimum.
(2) I’m not sure what you’re trying to transfer to PC but its not good, whatever you’re doing. The only data files that are even relevant are highscores and settings.lua files, which we discourage anyways. You shouldn’t be transferring library files since they aren’t the same app. And yes, renaming files is a bad idea.
Okay thanks for answer. So i have to copy only the .lua files to PC and than i have to copy it from PC into Disk Aid IPad Device!?
… i dont cant find hash.lua !?
@CC-Jolly Those files look like “highscore_RANDOM123ABC.lua”. They will only be there if you have enabled Rovio Account
Okay i understand. And they are also important to copy. Thanks very much Slim!!
Sorry if this has already been mentioned before, but I’m getting a new iPad and I don’t know how to transfer my progress in seasons. Is there any non-complicated way to do this?
@blahalb09 congratz on the new iPad and yeah you are right, there are several items that cover this.

How to Transfer Angry Birds Progress Between iOS Devices
I also wrote a forum thread about this (and had success with a couple less computer savvy friends)
How to transfer progress from Apple to Apple
Good to see you around @blahalb09 ;)
Not sure where to direct this comment so I thought to put it here since I started having this problem when then introduced the cloud. Every since I started using the cloud not all my golden eggs are visible. The golden egg counter says I have them all but when I open up the golden egg page it doesn’t show all my eggs. Why is this?
You’ll have to explain a little more. Is it random eggs that are missing, or an entire page? (Remember that there are 2 pages of eggs)
Its random eggs. Not counting the eggs from todays update, I had them all. My egg count shows them all. But in the 2 pages some are missing
You might want to talk to Rovio. Sounds like something went wrong with your settings.lua file.
I created my rovio account on my android phone. I confirmed the email and then logged in on my android ABo. It did not ask me to up load, it just gave me 0 progress even though I have almost completed 3 stars on everything. I pulled out my iPhone that only had a couple levels completed and it did upload progress. How in the world do I get my android progress in the account? Am I just totally screwed now because it didn’t upload my android scores the first time but it did upload the 2 level progress on the iPhone?
For now, I would recommend logging out of Rovio Account and staying logged out. We are in talks with Rovio about some ways that they may be able to improve the feature.
Hi, I’ve been wanting to share my experience about Rovio Accounts with you for some time, but somehow never found the time for it… Sorry if it’s a bit long to explain.
I usually play AB when commuting to work in the underground (subway) or while traveling (sometimes with my phone in flight mode), so quite often I don’t have access to “the cloud”.
I was quite excited when the Rovio Accounts update came to my Galaxy S3, so created my account; my progress was uploaded and I continued playing while on the underground (subway). After completing some levels, I lost data connection, and got a message that I had been disconnected from Rovio Accounts, but continued playing anyway. When I got connection again, I could see that I had different progress in my phone “offline” and in my Rovio Account (the progress I made while offline hadn’t been uploaded, and when I signed in again, it didn’t update).
Bottom line is: your progress only gets registered to your Rovio Account if you are online and logged in while playing. I talked to Rovio about this and they confirmed that point. So my solution for now was to keep playing offline till I had completed (3-starred and Total-destructined) all the levels currently released, then deleted my Rovio Account and created it again (to have my progress backed up).
I really hope that Rovio comes with a solution for this – I think it should not be too hard to keep a tab on which Rovio Account you would like to update with the progress you make offline as soon as you get online, and thus not losing the “multiple accounts in the same device” possibility.
Any ideas / impressions about this?
Sorry for the long rant, and hope some of you find my impressions useful.
Cheers, ABN!

We love hearing user feedback. There are a couple threads already active on the topic, and we (ABN) are trying to actively work with Rovio on possible improvements to the service.

Thanks for the link to the related thread, your summary there is really good; I hope you don’t mind my copying it in this thread:
So there are two situations.
(1) If you ARE signed in to your Rovio Account, scores obtained will NOT be saved to your device. This allows users to have multiple Rovio Accounts on a single device without overlapping progress.
(2) If you are NOT signed in to your Rovio Account, there is currently no way to force your Account to input your device’s scores. You can do this by minor manipulation of data files, but I don’t recommend that for people not savvy about the process.
Both issues, I believe, are being evaluated by Rovio staff.
ABo 3.3 has been out for some time now, but the account is still not available to me. I’m in Cambodia, and use a Galaxy Grand (unrooted). Any idea how to get the cloud sync working?
Hi,
Can I transfer angry birds apps from iphone to samsung galaxy note 3 via rovio account?
As Rovio Accounts are available on both iOS and Android, you should be able to merge progress. However, the process is by no means absolute, so we encourage users to backup via the guide included in the post.
I used to use iphone but I just bought samsung recently. Do I need to buy angry birds apps again for my samsung or I can transfer the apps from iphone to samsung?
Thank you
Separate platform means separate apps.
You don’t need to buy the app, but you need to install it (there’s a free, ad-supported version in Goole Play). Then, transferring your progress via Rovio Accounts should do the trick.
