Angry Birds Facebook Power-Ups Explained

With the Angry Birds Facebook launch only days away, Rovio has released a bit more information about what is likely its most unique feature: Power-Ups! Per the screenshot we included in our original announcement, it looks as if there were going to be five Power-Ups available; however, we only have details for four of them at the moment. If there are more we will be sure to update them here. For now, be sure to follow us on Facebook (if you already haven’t).

Update, Angry Birds Facebook is out now! Check out all the juicy details in our article here.

Things to keep in mind as it relates to Power-Ups:

  • Power-ups are limited use, so you’ll have to use them sparingly.
  • One can receive Power-Ups by receiving a “mystery gift” from a friend. These gifts are random, so you can’t predict which Power-Up you’ll receive.
  • You can purchase Power-Ups, or bundles of Power-Ups, for $0.99 and up. They can also be earned via game play.
  • Unlike the Mighty Eagle, power-ups can be used to help pump up your scores, thus improving your ranking on the leaderboard.
  • You can use some Power-Ups together. For example, you can use King Sling with any other Power-Up.
  • King Sling and Sling Scope are applied to all the birds in the level.

General Q/A:

  • How will you earn Power-Ups via game play?
  • We don’t know exactly yet, but will try and find out.
  • When you use a Power-Up and achieve a highscore will the leaderboard show what Power-Up you used?
  • No, at this point in time it shows up just like a normal score. If you want to compete on a level playing field with friends just agree to not use Power-Ups.
  • How is the Mighty Eagle used? Will it be used in the traditional sense (i.e. collecting feathers) or will it be considered more of a Power-Up?
  • It is used in the transitional sense; however, the Mighty Eagle is limited. You have to purchase or earn more just like Power-Ups.

Roviohas not said anything about an ABx update in February. Not to say it won’t happen, but nothing has been said.

You’re right you can play angry birds on facebook now. https://apps.facebook.com/178222352279634/
(need adobe flash player to play).

Really is out!!! Need most current version of Adobe Flash (I had to update). As far as I can see, there are 3 episodes, Poached Eggs, Mighty Hoax (both of which appear same or similar to ABO), and NEW Surf and Turf! Haven’t seen anything like teaser scenes yet. You get a starting set of power ups by clicking on the heart in opening screen. You can give power ups to people who are already registered as your friends (these may not cost you anything, and don’t deplete you stock, I think). My current friends list includes AB players, but no addicts, so I haven’t tried this.

The gifts don’t cost anything, but people can only receive gifts from you once a day.

Tried out the power ups (on PE & MH). I like the sling scope the best, and the king sling second. They both require a little getting used to, the KS more than SS. Birds follow the path of the SS, but don’t necessarily land where you pointed it, e.g. the YB starts on the path, but when you accelerate it, it goes off the path. Birds launched with the KS may go much farther than you expected. Super seeds didn’t seem to help that much, and bird quake does next to nothing unless you have carefully picked a level where a little bit of shaking can have a big effect.

@mvnla2 we’re apparently very different players. I know it’s been a while since this post, but I found superseeds to be the most advantageous of all. It, combined with KS has been my primary weapon. It plows through literally everything.

Birdquake – S&T levels 1, 18, and 38 are capable of no-birders, 15, 23, and 39 come very close, and another significant handful they will do the vast majority of the destruction beforehand.

Sling scope – I never use it. None of my scores were obtained with it. I use other tricks for accuracy. For this reason, I never buy the bundles. I buy each separately.

From my small use of power-ups, I do prefer sling scope, perhaps due to it’s similarity with ABSpace? Super seeds probably second most useful I find, and I agree with bill, combined with a KS, a bird can be devastating! Birdquake – occasionally useful, lol! :)

I’m not sure I understand. Can you provide a bit more detail on the issue? We’d love to help

I am glad that I viewed this site prior to playing AB on Facebook. It explained the attributes of the Power-Ups.

This is just another example of the presentation of objective information that the folks at ABN presents to assist their players. Thank you.

Will Space come to Facebook? I’m actually a bit surprised they didn’t introduce it as I’m sure FB gives Rovio the biggest audience it can get.

Rank: Sling God with 28500 points
By AMslimfordy (@amslimfordy)

I don’t foresee that happening.

Profile photo of PdBRank: Pig Leader with 10620 points
By PdB (@playdbird)

Then I guess I’m confused – I thought AB PC and AB FB to be virtually the same. If PC users have Space shouldn’t FB users get it also?

Rank: Sling God with 28500 points
By AMslimfordy (@amslimfordy)

They are very different, most notably Facebook has power ups and only limited levels from the original Angry Birds app.

Profile photo of PdBRank: Pig Leader with 10620 points
By PdB (@playdbird)

Point taken about the power ups… But you still wouldn’t think Rovio would want to roll out Space for FB? It’s super popular game on the biggest social media site would seem to be a natural.

Rank: Sling God with 28500 points
By AMslimfordy (@amslimfordy)

But if it is that popular, people will purchase from Rovio’s shop as well.

Profile photo of PdBRank: Pig Leader with 10620 points
By PdB (@playdbird)

True, of course, but the sheer numbers of FB users would guarantee them a huge revenue stream. For example, my sister lives on FB. She never played AB until it appeared there and now she’s hooked, and buys the power ups, eagles, etc.

I guess we’re just speculating, but if I were Rovio, instead of sitting at my kitchen table, I’d put my product in every possible channel while there’s money to be made. :-)

SUGGESTING A NEW POWER UP
I don’t know if already treated but… what do you think about a “SWITCH” power-up to modify the birdie queue. Suppose you have a Yellow, a Blue and a Black… after the first shot, you need better the Black than the Blue bird to conlcude the level, then… keep calm and use this cool power-up. :-)))

@amslimfordy – what about this? ;-)

The admins have no control over what power ups are put into the game

I’m not a fan of power ups in general, so I’m certainly not a fan of adding more. Sorry.

I wish there was such “SWITCH” power-up available to modify the birdie queue! I’d love it :) @nchiriano

Profile photo of BillRank: Champion with 3655 points
By Bill (@dollarbill2208)

It’s an idea that has always been in the back of my mind. I think it would be interesting. Would the switch be random, or something you can control? Random seems like it would ruin the very idea, but it might take some work modifying the game where you can control your bird line up.

Profile photo of BillRank: Champion with 3655 points
By Bill (@dollarbill2208)

With that said, does Rovio ever act on any ideas that ABN comes up with? Do the admins pitch them ideas, and maybe Rovio will act on it, but maybe not?

Rank: Sling God with 28500 points
By AMslimfordy (@amslimfordy)

Rovio had that survey a week ago regarding Power Ups. I’m sure that’s a result of ABN.

You should contact support directly for transaction issues.

Ok…that’s what they do but HOW do I control them? The scope makes no sense. How do I point it to my target?

Rank: Gold Flinger with 7665 points
By SweetP (@sweetp)

When you use the scope P/U and you’re ready to fling the bird, you’ll see the trail of dots in front of the scope which tells you the trajectory.
