We first heard about the Bad Piggy Bank when Rovio announced it a few months ago. The Bad Piggy Bank is basically a payment system created by Rovio to handle In-App micro-transactions. Apple already has a similar service, which is why it was relatively painless for Rovio to release the Mighty Eagle add-on across iOS devices. Android, as well as other platforms, just don’t have a great way to do this…yet.
Per Rovio’s blog post, here’s how it will work:
Bad Piggy Bank purchases will be paid through operator billing. No credit card is required, you simply select the content you want to purchase in the game, and select the Bad Piggy Bank icon. You confirm your purchase, the payment is made via SMS, and you will be charged in your phone bill.
But don’t get too excited yet, right now the Bad Piggy Bank is only available on the Elisa network in Finland. They say that “Bad Piggy Bank support will only be released through various operators globally later during 2011.”
So hang tight all you Android Angry Birds fans, the Mighty Eagle should be coming your way soon. Also, once this problem is solved, I imagine we’ll see other Angry Birds add-ons, like the Pink Flamingo (< joking). Not familiar with the Mighty Eagle? Check out our in-depth explanation.
Cool
Cool! Cant wait for it to come out!
SWEET!!!
This is CCCCRRRRRRRAAAAAAAPPPP!!!!! Rovio needs to realize like the rest of us have that the whole world doesn’t revolve around apple products! Most of us have opted for the more open source platform that android provides. Get with the program rovio and develop full support for android users!
That is actually what they are trying to do. It’s not Rovio’s fault that the Android is a decentralized platform with no good in-app purchase solution. They problem has to be resolved before they can fully support Android.
Sadly, Bird Leader is right, Monkey. Android is SO open, that there are so many flavors, specialties, and ‘fragmentation’ – basically what linux went through. Go to distrowatch.org and see how many flavors of linux there are now…try writing an app for ALL of them that works without ruining your brand.
Rovio has stated this problem. While Android is used more than Apple, Android is not one big consistant OS like Apple has. Pieces here, devices there…so Rovio knows Android is huge. But a smart business is going with the most stable singular environment first, then getting things to work on that Android device. Then the next. Then that one, and that one. Once they have a majority working, they release.
is this going to be a one time pay or monthly?
The Mighty Eagle is a one time payment.
good i have a n900
maricas
Are android users ever going to get a new update?? Starting to take the piss a bit now
You guys got the same update as iOS users a couple weeks back. If you’re pissed about not having the Mighty Eagle, that’s not really Rovio’s fault (see the comments above).
I have not had any updates what so ever i still haven’t got the Ham em High levels thats why im pissed!
…and why the hell have they taken it off the market? Angry Birds Seasons is up there but the regular one isn’t any more (well it isn’t on my phone)
I have no idea. Have you tried just getting it from GetJar.com?
Legend! That worked a treat got all the levels now. Although i have to start again right from the beginning because i had uninstalled it but oh well at least i have something to do at work!! Cheers for that link though mate!!
My only concern now is will i get an update when one is available after downloading it from getjar.com? Usually when updates for games ect are ready on my phone it tells me in the Market
I also agree with BirdLeader. The fragmentation of the platform is also what is keeping me from the android side as well. I thoroughly respect the platform and think a lot of it is really slick. But mostly I like how much it pushes apple to further things on their side in a quicker fashion. The android platform is SO confusing and extremely difficult for developers to develop for. There are just WAY too many versions of phones and features for everything to come together for every user.
Now remember this is not a bash on android, (I’m definitely not getting that one started) but just a defense on Rovio’s part.
Also guys Android guys? Ummmmm….Your version is currently free. Free. I’ll never understand people who complain about things they get for free.
The android update for ham and valentines seasons have been out for weeks now. We don’t have levels for code unlock and levels at end of ham are “coming soon”.
As far as free, toast? We have a paid version if we don’t want the”lite” ver
My apologies, I could’ve sworn that the original android Angry Birds (full) was free at release. Was that only temporary?
I’m sorry I’m still confused, I just looked at the android market and it says both the Original & Seasons are free. And I asked an android friend if there was a paid version and he said there is not.
Translators are definitely not perfect. There is no paid version for Android yet, except for maybe in Finland we’re they’re doing some beta testing.
I believe that became the lite ver once the updates came out in full
Why don’t they just use Google Checkout? That’s how you buy apps on the Market.
I presume because it’s not seamless enough. This has to be built inside the app. You don’t want to leave the game to go to Google Checkout = lame.
I suspect it is to avoid having to pay a percentage of each sale to Google.
I am going crazy waiting for the Mighty Eagle. My twin sister keeps teasing me. Where is it I want it now :)
When is the mighty eagle coming for android??? (my touch 4g)
Sorry we don’t have any dates yet.
Any updates in this matter?
Yes, but it’s not good news. It looks like there have been snags/delays in rolling out the Bad Piggy Bank to Android. I believe Google is hard at work on an InApp purchase solution for Android as well. If they roll that out I imagine we’d see the Mighty Eagle come to Android fairly quickly.
Last time this question was posted was a month ago so I am wondering if there has been any changes since than. Any updates on when the Eagle will land on Android?
Check BL’s post. That’s the latest that I have heard as well.
Tell me wise man.
I`m situated in Bulgaria and I use pre-paid cards to pay for my Android phone bill – no monthly tax. Should I also be able to purchise Piggy Bank stuff. Also my mobile provider Globul is situated in Bulgaria – how can we be sure that they will support the service.
Thank you.
does mighty eagle available on Sony ericson X10?
Not yet. Only on iOS for right now
Any updates on Android getting fhd mighty eagle?? Its been a while since anyone asked.
People have been asking a lot, just usually on other pages. All Rovio can say is that it is an ongoing project that is still progressing. I think optimism would say by year’s end.
But when
Hey guys!
The Mighty Eagle has landed on Android. Step by step it will come to all our fans – http://t.co/GoG2Y0jd
Enjoy :)
Julien.
Hey thanks for bringing it to android! Keep up the good work Rovio!
Thanks for the info Julien! A job well done!
Could you possibly elaborate on “Through Oct. 13, T-Mobile customers will be the first to be able to call on the Mighty Eagle to help defeat those pugnacious ‘lil piggies.” ? Does this mean ME is coming to normal Android Market on 13 Oct.?
We’re working on bringing it to more fans, but we want to make sure we provide the best user experience possible for the payment.
Taking a bit more time to polish :)
I heard that the ME will come in the later half of the year… but its december already. I’m wondering if it will be late december or early January?
Hey guys,Rovio just answered all my questions, here’s what they say :
Hello Alfred,
Thanks for contacting us!
We have listened to our users’ feedback, and have some good news: We are going to introduce a new ad-free version of the game for the Android users as well, in co-operation with the local operators.
The Bad Piggy Bank is our payment service, enabling the purchase and activation of “In-Game Elements” in Angry Birds via the mobile phone bill. There are two options you can purchase: An ad-free version of the game and/or the Mighty Eagle.
The Bad Piggy Bank will be available through Getjar very soon!
Best Regards,
Jenni
Angry Birds Team
Slim or BL,Maybe you should write a post about this or something :D
Good hunting. May or may not write a post on it. If it’s coming soon, then we may simply wait it out. Good info though.
Thanks :D
Getjar? What about android matket?
I hope if it IS on getjar then the version will overwrite the Matket Version.
Thanks :)
What if you dont have a sim card? I don’t have a mobile phone bill :( will it work without it? Will this work:
Well i could use one from another phone like my dads and then pay for it then?
Is anything clear on the BPB coming to Seasons or Rio? If so can you explain?
You should direct these questions to Rovio.
Is the ME coming to Android soon? What about this video ? Is this how it should be?
That’s the T-Mobile version.
Ok. But is it coming to the Android Market soon? And will it be like this?
I haven’t heard an ETA. Not sure how it will go.
I never understood this.
I can understand the amazon one week or so exclusivity before every android appstore can carry the product.
But to offer ME only through T mobile is plain silly imo. Do they really think people will switch carriers just to get ME ?
Probably not. I think the T-Mobile release was a beta test of the Bad Piggy Bank. Now they could do it either individually to the different service operaters or they could release it all at once, which takes a little longer.
I think the T-Mobile Mall just offered the technology necessary for the purchase, moreso than Android Market.
Doesn’t Amazon already have in-app purchases?
Not that I’m aware of.
I checked Cut the Rope on Amazon and they had a key that was an in-app purchase.
How does Angry Birds Chrome have the Mighty Eagle and not Google Play? On Chrome you pay with your Google account (I think), and Google Play is made by Google.
Rovio should make the Bad Piggy Bank an actual product. It should be about $10.
By that I mean an actual Angry Birds Bad Piggy Piggy Bank.
@amslimfordy This is Great! Don’t you think Rovio should do it this year? No C.Card, payment via phone, it is gonna be way more better. If this do land, PU and ME for PC can work right?
In theory, it would enable a lot of things. But seeing how long it has taken to get things this far, I’m not sure how optimistic I am for its arrival.
aww I really wish that they do it ASAP.
I am quite sure it is an active project. But after nearly 2 years I don’t expect any monumental news.
