What's the feather-loss animation do?

I’d started noticing something funny by the slingshot, particularly when I take high-angle shots. At first, I thought it might be the hatchling going for an amusing tumble, but it’s actually a bunch of rainbow feathers falling off. Does anyone know what this does, or whether it actually does anything?

@rippiggies What bird did you first notice this? What hat were they wearing? Because I think that might just be the birds’ hats (they always fall off when you launch the birds).

So far, I’ve also thought that it’s the bird’s hat that falls down!?
