TNT's Art Style

  • This is probably going to seem like a really petty gripe, but does anyone else find the art style in this game rather ugly and unappealing? Over the years, while likely not major I feel that one of the many appeals to Angry Birds has been its really cute art style. Even in the movie, when the birds went through a major overhaul in appearance, they still retained their cuteness. Just look at Bomb here. Meanwhile in TNT, most of the characters look really hyper-detailed and over-stylized (and I can’t say I’m too fond of some of the birds having a female bust- they’re birds for Pete’s sake). While this style definitely could work elsewhere, I really don’t feel like it suits Angry Birds. But hey, maybe I’m just being too nitpicky. What are your thoughts?

I was thinking the same thing. The Angry Birds Movie had a certain charm to it that TNT seems to lack. I would not compare the AB Movie to TNT though unless Rovio has specifically said that it was inspired by it, though. It does not follow the plot of the Angry Birds Movie either, and there are notable differences in the setting of the movie and TNT. The art style is close to the movie’s, but different enough to differentiate between the two works.

Personally, I thinks it’s very refreshing and lovely and is one of the main reasons i enjoy working on the project.

It is DEFINITELY different from the beauty that is AB2 for instance, but the ugliness and personalisation of the characters is the most endearing aspect to me.

And tbf some of the map locations can pull their weight.

It’s not a style we’ll be going for with the whole company, no worries.
It’s unique and beautiful in it’s own right.

    A dystopian(?) AU~~

As for Lady birds with more plumage (HA!), my extremely critical-self has been more than happy with almost all of them.
I’m my lady-opinion, I’m happy to see so many female characters and I’m also happy to see them in so many shapes and sizes in a respectful manner, considering the context.

My main issue is the shaved heads.
    It’s unnatural!!!!
It’s new, cool and funny but I’m still going “BUT WHY WOULD THEY SHAVE OFF THEIR NORMAL ONES I JUST DON’T LIKE IT” and then screaming in to the abyss.

@rocketfury I really like the new art style for me it takes away the cute and emphasises that these are “ANGRY” Birds. Though I am confused if this takes place in the same Bird Island from the movie.

tbh we don’t even know either.
Most of the stuff should definitely not be considered as canon, much like AB transformers for instance.

It’s an interpretation/au/whatever! We don’t like labels! Mostly we’re just focusing on making it the best experience we can :)

@rocketfury yeah I guess it’s better that I don’t over think tings. Heck the original angry birds didn’t have labels for the characters or island.

the ab movie also changed it so they have separate islands! Changed a lot of canon.

@angrybr0 My idea was that this game takes place on the Bird Island from the movies, but after the main cast moved to Piggy Island (for whatever reason). This is why none of the “classic” birds show up (except Mighty Eagle).

And I also think the art style looks a little odd. Feels very “uncanny valley” to me.
