My Rant About AB2

  • Yes, it’s another one of those threads :P.

Thing’s about the game seem very fishy to me. So, in my rant below, I will be explaining why I don’t think Rovio is being completely honest with us about the games physics, and how it appears rigged.

Now, I know that at least one person is going to tell me that the game is not rigged. But, let’s think about this for a second:

Indestructible Micro Pigs: What are these anyway? Are they just a glitch, or are they actually intended? If it was a glitch, shouldn’t they have been fixed a long time ago? These guys have been in the game for literally months. How long does it take to fix a pigs health mechanics? Rovio has not even mentioned them, despite the hundreds of comments about them that Rovio apparently reads.

Terence and Balloons: Another long time “glitch”. Since the beginning, Terence has NEVER been able to efficiently pop balloons. I know for a fact Rovio knows about this, but instead they leave it as it is and think nobody will notice. All because it makes you waste a bird. Therefore, making you want to pay for more.

The Supposed Anti-Cheat: Of course something like this will take a while to code, but Rovio has not brought up anything about the anti-cheat for months. Is Rovio still working on it or did they just stop development? The main reason why there are so many hackers in the arena is because there is literally nothing stopping them. Rovio won’t even ban them directly! They’re free to do whatever they want!

Blizzard: Many people complained about it. Some Rovio folks acted like something was going to be done. However, they never mentioned “next update” and instead, stopped talking about it entirely. This makes me think that they WANT it to be useless. It makes sense, useless spells = an excuse for a “reward” that doesn’t actually help at all. It’s also notorious for wasting a Destruct-O-Bar fill up, which comes right back to buying extra birds.

The Daily Challenges: For the majority of the DCs, the rewards don’t really out weight the amount of gems you have to spend to actually beat these levels. Sure, there’s an easy one once in a great while, but most of them require extra birds, nullifying the benefit for players (Not Rovio though!). One more thing I’d like to point out: Do any of you remember the boss levels being that hard the first time you completed them? Because I sure don’t.

Because of problems like these, three of the most dedicated flingers on the nest (Mvnla2, Wrw01 and Sparty83) have quit the game. Now that’s saying something.

I agree with all the things except for the Blizzard spell. Personally, I don’t get why people are complaining about this spell. This spell is a killer combo with birds like the Blues or Terence in cases where there are wood and/or stone structures lined up. Not to mention it helps in significantly filling the destructometer because ice blocks break easily.

@mighty-red-1 Maybe because we’re not mega pros like you? ;)

I see where your coming from. When set up correctly, it can be a powerhouse. For many situations though (For me anyway), it’s just not very reliable.

Like when you watch a video to get an extra bird that turns out being a Blizzard. That automatically causes you to fail the level because of horrible luck. Or just not having the right bird setup at the time. Like you said, it’s a powerhouse with Blue’s and Terence, but with birds like Chuck and Red it’s next to useless. Even if you’re saving the Blizzard in your arsenal until you get Blue’s or Terence, you’re wasting a valuable slot that could have a much more versatile bird in it.

To conclude, yes it can be a powerhouse, but IMO it’s just too situational.

    @partshade,
Add me to that list of long time players who have given up on AB2. Each update is worse than the previous version. Updates are supposed to make things better, not so much worse like in AB2. (too many to list and they have been brought to the attention of Rovio, so no need to beat a dead horse).
I don’t have a problem with Rovio wanting to make money with In-App-Purchases, but with AB2, it just so blatant. When a company relies on IAP for their game to succeed, they have already failed.

@sparty83 Wow. All the veteran players are dropping like flies. You will definitely be added.

Also agree with everything you said. I think it’s official, this is most poorly handled AB game there is.

Rovio´s moral incompetence is making be think I might as well drop this game.
Have not been paying serious attention to the arena for weeks.

It is just a shame to see such a great game going down the drain.

    Anyway…

I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again.

My biggest problem with the game is the scoring system. It doesn’t use your actual bird levels, but rather your assumed ones (which doesn’t take into account gifts and arena rewards, only the map treasures). Because of this, as you progress in the game it becomes easier and easier to get 3 stars in levels, which removes any challenge that was previously there. In many of Mighty Red’s walkthroughs the 3-star threshold is passed in, say, the second room – in a level with five rooms. If his actual bird levels were taken into account, some of his walkthroughs wouldn’t actually be 3 stars!

All the problems mentioned by @partshade are minor for me. Terence doesn’t pop balloons as well as birds like the Blues do – in the same way that Bomb doesn’t break wood as easily as Chuck. I believe @bankler said that pigs suddenly becoming indestructible happened automatically and accidentally when they switched their game engine from Unity 4 to 5. The cheaters will always find some way to exploit some kind of hack in the game, but for some reason I’ve never really encountered any. I don’t use spells (unless they’re pre-provided), so Blizzard isn’t really much of an issue for me. And I can’t say anything about the daily challenges as I stopped playing the game before these were released.

All in all, I wouldn’t say that I’ve quit Angry Birds 2; I’m just boycotting it until the scoring system is evened out (or reverted, but that’s probably less likely). It should adjust itself when your bird levels change. This would be enough for me to end my boycott. But until then… no AB2 for me.
