@desperate-danLevel 2-12 is on the move at last. Crawled up from 146th to 135th. Painful.
But not as painful as someone on House of Games who went for 1970 as to when postage stamps were first invented. Ouch! Richard has to be incredibly tactful when faced with such incredible stupidity.
catsnbirds
@catsnbirdsHi Dan and Brian. I am still hiding in a booth with Tom Hanks as we try to decide if we should leave the country. Still having trouble accepting the current reality.
As one of those on “the other side of the pond” I recognize differences between the UK members in Wales/England/Scotland. All good, though I am currently a strong Scot fan thanks to David Tennant. ?
Desperate Dan
@desperate-danGlad to hear from you @catsnbirds. I think hiding in a booth in the BP already represents a departure from reality so you should be used to it.
Careful with being a fan of the Scots, DT’s mother was Scottish.
Desperate Dan
@desperate-danAccording to more than one poll I consulted, the greatest ever Welsh person is Aneurin Bevan. Probably not well known outside the UK, he was the founding father of the National Health service and other elements of the Welfare State in the late 1940s and thus has a profound effect on all our lives.
Polls on the greatest Scots person of all time are more varied – take your pick from William Wallace, Robert the Bruce or Robbie Burns. David Tennant even came 5th in one list of the greatest ever Scotsmen. Alexander Fleming is always near the top – I think he would be my pick over the warmongers and the artists.
English person? Churchill seems to be generally the top dog. Shakespeare gets a good shout out but we actually know very little about him so I would be more inclined to go for Darwin, Newton or Brunel.
We would have to have an Angry Birds tie-breaker between them all to get true winner. No women I’m afraid. My money would be on Isaac Newton, having the best understanding of the laws of physics.
Any other takers for great Angry Birds players from history?
Brian N
@briannHas to be Isaac Newton,he even appeared on Dr Who…as an Indian?!
Mind you so has Tennant(obvs) and Shakespeare.
Seriously though some great men are decades ahead of their time he must’ve been at least a century ahead.Apart from his scientific discoveries his scholarly approach to the bible is also noteworthy.Sadly he was so afraid of the power of the clergy that these views (which criticised the Trinity doctrine, idolatry, persecution by said clergy of anyone contradicting orthodox views even burning them at the stake etc among other things) were only published after his death.
Well you did ask.
Brian N
@briannI do like Trumpy’s 2 for 1 with Gaetz. When he’s not out quashing Trump’s felony conviction or clawing back $ millions in fines or using a cigar cutter on Michael Cohen’s fingers he can furnish him with nubile young girls from his little side hustle as a sex trafficker.Birds of a feather eh?
Blimey I’m really in his crosshairs now aren’t I?
I should of course say ‘allegedly’
Brian N
@briannDon’t worry about it @catsnbirds we have a piggy eyed narcisist/megalomaniac/sociopath in charge of a massive nuclear arsenal. What’s the worst that could happen?Oh wait Russia have had one of those for years.
Brian N
@briannDidn’t Churchill see off the Daleks?
HunnyBunny
@hunnybunnyBunny is hiding in a booth, trying to attract Tom Hank’s attention away from @catsnbirds with no success
You can both come and stay with me, but I only have one spare bedroom, if that’s OK, cats?
Brian N
@briannWho’s looking after the squirrels?
Desperate Dan
@desperate-dan5 years ago today we picked up tiny Twiggy from the breeder for the first time. And it was only a month or so after that she befriended Kathy in the BP. Kathy always slipped her some crispy pig ears, we haven’t forgotten that kindness. I think I prefer that reality.
catsnbirds
@catsnbirds@hunnybunny I do have a rather tight grip on Mr. Hanks in our booth… And one bedroom? Why would we need more? ?
@briann And the two of them are apparently besties. No problems then. ?@ desperatedan Pets to Twiggy from me. I prefer this BP reality too!
Brian N
@briannTruly kindness was among Kathy’s many fine qualities and I seem to remember that kindness was repaid by a good old face licking…er by Twiggy not you Dan.
Desperate Dan
@desperate-danKeep thinking the plural of forum is fora but apparently either fora or forums will do. But the plural of sheep is most definitely sheeps as in “Leave the sheeps alone Twiggy!”
Desperate Dan
@desperate-danJust when you think the clown car must already be full…
Desperate Dan
@desperate-danWow, a very rare thing today. A puppy parade on a Poached Eggs level without either Classics or a new strategy. Hard to know what to make of it. One must surmise that this level improved without anyone noticing (OK, it improved back in 2012 but that was already dialled in before today). Not complaining.
Brian N
@briannThanks for the heads up on the challenge @desperate-dan though I may have left it too late.Been watching Dune 2 @catsnbirds have you seen it yet?Ham Tonks isn’t in it but it’s a ripper.
Brian N
@briannIs Charles Manson still alive? He’d be a good fit for Trump’s cabinet.
No IKEA jokes please.
Desperate Dan
@desperate-danDr Who has just gone over a bad cliff. Just hit about the worst episode ever (12-6). Utter utter rubbish. Yes, Chibnell was one of the writers. Don’t ask me to describe it. It was shameful. I wanted the monsters to win and have done with it.
Brian N
@briannC is for bloody cold https://youtu.be/l81HZfkLwpk?si=4upeJarQUtFSSHxU
Desperate Dan
@desperate-danWell, well, well. The Dinorwig slate quarries, just down the road. I think, at the time that it was at its peak, the second largest in the world. Second only the the Penryn slate quarry, a few miles away and now home to the fastest zipwire in the world. One of Twiggy and my favourite places to go walking. Unesco World Heritage Site – you really are not allowed to do anything like the video portrays, naughty boys.
Desperate Dan
@desperate-danTalking of temperature, it’s idiot time again. 3 out of the 4 contestants on House of Games when asked to guess the melting point of gold, chose round about at or below the boiling point of water. So if you accidentally split hot tea on your gold ring it would melt then? Only about 950 degrees Centigrade too low.
Brian N
@briannEvening Stalky Dan .Those boys just don’t care,in another Mountainhead video Jon can be seen throwing fake money all over a beach.Tsk Tsk.
Desperate Dan
@desperate-danAnyway, you’ve seen my back garden.
Brian N
@briannHad a feeling of deja vu about our friend Chirpy and scrolling forward a few pages in the forum saw he’d asked exactly the same question two years ago. What’s worse is I gave the same answer.I think deja vu is taking over my memory.
