Bug or on purpose?

  • So right now I’m stuck on cave 13-5. I can handle losing, but my main problem is the fact that the enemies deliver more damage than they are supposed to. If you hold to display the info about damage for each enemy, all of the enemies always evoke a higher level of damage to every bird for every attack – how is this possible?

    I also think that the AI in the game has improved extensively in the latest updates – I’ve noticed this in the arena and in the cave. The “random” AI attacks are not so random anymore. The AI also seems to have a better understanding of what you’re trying to accomplish. The “knock outs” in the cave always happen at exactly the point that you plan to use a defense move so that you cannot follow a normal plan.

    I think right now it’s even worse in the arena. For example if I need to knock out a certain number of birds for an arena battle, the AI will try to work against me – to the point that once an AI bird had exactly the health of my attack, it did not get knocked out (without any protection). I have especially noticed this on a recent challenge where I had to defeat Red – I had to go through MANY battles to even play against a team with a red bird. Come’on man…red is THE most common bird that everyone uses, how is there not a Red in a battle for 4 battles in a row?

    Previously the AI would attack a bird until it was knocked out (ignoring post-turn poison subtraction). Now the AI plans for what birds can get knocked out without an additional attack…

    There are other factors in play than simply a Bird’s remaining health. What Banner was the opposition equipped with, as many give damage reduction bonuses?
    Four battles in a row without a Red is common, not everyone uses him to any extent, and then add the RNG factor…
    The Arena AI has evolved, yes it recognises imminent KOs, but isn’t this what you would do? The AI is still very predictable, use your experience from this pattern to your advantage.

    @pointless That’s not right. Yeah, we as players would have done that but since it’s an AI, one would think that it would act less like a sentient player. During this week, not always have I been able to take this “advantage” you speak of simply because of the advanced AI and being matched against 100+ power differentiated opponents. It feels right on paper, just not always on the field. As I have said, I have the strongest gear for my level and league but never have I been pitted against much stronger players. This is not a situation I would call to take an “advantage” of.

    All I am saying is that the AI has evolved with the progamming with updates (as it should). The patterns have changed, but are still very predictable. I have played Arena since the beginning, have seen the evolution and have been able to adapt my own strategy accordingly. I am regularly faced with opposition rated 1600+, but as I have said many times before, this is an arbitrary system that puts weight on health above any team synergy (Elite Knight, anyone?)
    My chosen team is less than 1500, but it is really next to unbeatable (a bone of contention to some apparently).

    @pointless When you say bone to contention, who are you referring to? Also, can you post a screen of your team?

    Pointless
    @pointless

    @datguygamer see other threads, I am not referring to you. I also won’t post a picture of my team, but it is no secret considering what has been talked about in these forums. I will say I am lucky to have all gear maxed. I am not trying to be evasive, I have just seen what happens to things openly posted. PM if you want details.

    @datguygamer

    @pointless I cannot PM you unless you are in my friend list. So…I did send a request. I still don’t see what the point of being so secretive as I have posted my screens and nothing happened. Maybe I’ll see in that PM, who knows.

    I agree with you. At least 90% of the teams I am offered have an a rating higher than mine by a few hundred even after playing McCool. I also agree the AI seems to have changed recently. It does not go after Chuck first like it used to. It seems to be trying to stop me from completing certain objectives.

    I’m really glad you said it seems to be trying to stop you from completing certain objectives as I have experienced the same thing and thought I was being paranoid. It’s very frustrating.

    @dallasreds @suzyq I don’t think this is new. It’s always been that you get an objective with knock out… and all you see is the Resurrection emblem, knock out a particular bird and you don’t see it etc. It always makes me sigh. I remember once having to play 60 plus games to find enough Matilda’s.

    @bubbley @suzyq

    I have gotten Knock it Matilda with blues 5x almost every other day for weeks. I had to restart at least 60 to 80 times to find a team with her on it. I am really tired of this objective!

    Pointless
    @pointless

    There is definitely more situation play from the AI. There is a huge difference in actions between winnin and losing the toss (once again, same as we would do). This being said, it still does follow predictable patterns, it’s simply a matter of recognising them and adjusting.
    I have not really noticed any anti-objective pairings though. I will watch for this.

    @dallasreds

    @bubbley @suzyq
    To further elaborate (Now that I have calmed down) I started using wiz/twin lightening, MM/ Ballista and sea dog/scissors to try to get the STUPID Kill Matilda with blues 5x objective and I had success even though I swear the opponent went after blues first in every match. This was extra nerve racking. It has always gone after Chueck first in thousands of battle in the past.

    Pointless
    @pointless

    @dallasreds I find that using Chuck and Blues in a battle is a risky proposition as they are the two weakest Classes and you will often lose both in the first round if you lose the toss, resulting in a scramble to stay afloat.
    This is a statement regarding many objectives, but it is easy to fall into the trap of focusing solely on the goal rather than the win (I am guilty of this as well, given my two losses in the KO 10 in a battle). I have to recognise a lost proposition and simply win to fight another day sometimes.
    I will definitely play down on the occasions that I face a ~700 team with Matilda (due to connectivity instability) and fight a long, boring battle to bide my time and KO her over and over with Blues, as this presents a rare gimme that I can’t pass up.

    @jim151

    It seems to be trying to stop me from completing certain objectives.

    Like whenever I get “Knock out 3 birds with a single attack”, the lineup I face makes it all but impossible to achieve. Things like resurrect, protectors aura, rage shield, save me for blues but no reborn for Chuck, thus Chuck dies while trying to get to Blues second life, the set bonus chain attack procs, thus killing one bird while trying to weaken another, etc…

    Jamairoqui
    @jamairoqui

    If the AI wins the coin toss, it *always* attacks your weakest bird (in terms of health) first. That used to almost always be Chuck, and if he was fit with the feather set (I forget the formal name) he would survive the initial attack. But with enchanted sets, I’ve found that Chuck is not the weakest, it mostly is Blues so he gets attacked first (generally it takes two hits to take them out, and the third bird then attacks the banner, leaving Chuck and the third bird on my team ready for my turn). So the feather strategy has evolved, and I’m at the point where I don’t want to enchant the off-hand sets for Blues any more because then Blues will be stronger than Chuck again.

    As far as nasty objectives go, yesterday my three objectives were “win two with bomb, with five with bomb and blues, and win five with lightning bird.” Trying to win with Chuck/Lightning, Bomb/Captain/Scissors, and Blues/Trickster/Artillery was kind of amusing. Not. I would rather have “kill three at once” because that is just a game of patience until you get the right enemy team where it’s do-able.

    burbman
    @burbman

    I think the AI is now calculating in the “bonus health” that Save Me and Reborn provide, as it now attacks the third member of my team first rather than starting with Chuck.

    Kdubz
    @kdubz

    It definitely prevents you from completing challenges now…I had the new challenge ‘win two battles after losing the coin toss’. I won like 15 coin tosses in a row…

    Like I said, once I had the knock out three birds with one attack challenge – no shield, no resurrection, no damage reduction and the attack power matched the remaining health and it didn’t get knocked out.

    What about my problem in the caves? Why does every pig deliver more damage than the description says to every bird on every attack?

    Kdubz
    @kdubz

    I also noticed that the AI almost always put up a shield right as you fill your rage chilli. I can’t see the enemy chilli but clearly the AI knows mine.

    RedYoshi45
    @smwforever45

    @kdubz
    Cave 13 contains many Brute type enemies (and 13-5 is nothing but Brutes). Some brute enemies deal more damage as your rage chilli fills up. They’d only deal their base damage if you were to use the chilli right before they attack – because then the chilli is 0% filled.

    Otherwise, what you’re describing sounds like extremely bad luck on your side… Sometimes you wish you’d finally win a single coin toss then you wish you’d finally lose one… I can only say this, winning is more likely than losing (I think @rovintan once tested that), and whether you win or lose the toss also seems to depend on your power rating) so it’s rigged to start with.
    There is, however, a single set item that can influence the outcome of the coin toss. It’s the upcoming 5th set item for the Blues – Gamble. It gives you a 50% chance that if you lose the coin toss, the coin turns around and you still win. If you happen to find an opponent with that set item (some computer-generated ones may have the set already), and you need to lose a coin toss, battle them.

    When a bird has no resurrection and no damage reduction (shield) on, then it must have had Save Me! or Reborn as the equipped set. It NEVER happened to me that a bird would not get KO’d even though I dealt more damage than it had health left.

    If the AI puts up a shield when your chilli is full, wait until the shield is gone and then attack. Makes more sense than wasting a chilli while the shield is up.
