Angry Birds II what’s the point

  • I think I understood the game’s original scoring and goals. With the the last two updates I am now unsure what is happening and why I should continue to play.

1.I have gone up to Diamond level. What did I gain from this except eggs for each level. Seems like you should just not participate and let the game drop me down to lower levels as there seems to me no advantage. It might be easier to win lower levels with the chance to gain more eggs than I spend. What is the point achieving Diamond League?
2.What is the advantage of a higher stars rating? I am at 35 now. You now win stars for each level won and each Tournament won. But what does the higher rating give you?
    3. Feathers: I understand your birds have more power 2x,3x, up. I believe, in earlier versions to gain the power you must have all birds upgraded. That used to be the way you got to the higher levels in the tournaments. How about now? I suspect each bird gets greater power when meeting the ever increasing threshold for 4x, 5x. No additional power until getting to the threshold.
    4. I know you supposed to be playing real players scores. Maybe but I think some are ringers after seeing players with low star rating but with birds 6x or higher. How about those players you buy one of each spell. That is expensive. Only there to bully you in buying spells. I refuse. Since the latest upgrade where scores no longer start with you opponent a couple of screens ahead of you, I am seeing strange things. I also hate spells in the Tournament as the scores, for me at least, are so low. The game can insure your Tournament failure by substituting a spell instead of a bird. I hate this as I can almost always do better with a bird. I have seen some strange scores with the new system. I have seen the opponent’s score freeze for several levels as I increase my lead. Then, when I am down to my last bird, the opponent’s score goes crazy closing the gap or even going higher with one jump. System needs to be consistent. If a opponent has spells at the beginning of a game you are almost guaranteed to have a spell substituted for a bird replacement. The kiss of death is getting the ice converting spell which, in itself, contributes no points.

Love to hear your comments and explainations

@clovos — Maybe you can answer rjallenxxx’s questions?
I agree with rjallenx that I don’t understand how the scoring in the arena is really working now, although I have read your explanations. The scores for your opponent are supposed to be for the room you’ve completed, correct? However, when I selected a spell, and my opponent didn’t, the opponent’s score stayed at 0, even after I completed the first room with a strike. His score only started increasing in the second room. I have not seen the opponents score freeze at anything other than 0, and then only for 1 room.
rjallenx — Were you using more spells than your opponent when his score froze, and did it freeze at 0 or some other value?
I thought the new update got rid of spells being drawn as birds in the arena?
Spells in the regular levels are sometimes helpful — you may be able to get through a level with fewer birds than if you didn’t draw a spell.
A higher star rating gets you more feathers in the daily treasure chest (rating + 10), I think.
In earlier versions, to advance to a higher arena league, you had to have all birds at that level or higher. I believe that all birds have always become more powerful when they get to a higher level. A higher level now means that the score multiplier is also higher.

No- I don’t use spells in the Arena except when they are forced on me as a bird replacement.

I still get spells- I hate this as in injects a huge amount of luck into the game and usually, it bad luck

Okay but it seems to me the the daily chest is variable. Sometimes you get credits sometimes feathers sometimes a second chest after watching a commercial.

All these rules should be posted for access in the game itself

Seems like there is less and less traffic here. Guess most are moving on. I may be behind them soon. Thanks for the reply

The daily feathers are the ones where your bird in the Arena has an exclamation point beside it — those rewards are always feathers. You only get other rewards from the treasure chests, which now (for me at least) offers the small chest every 30 minutes (that’s a lot of rewards!).

I have never, in dozens of battles since the update, drawn into a spell card. One exception to that is the drawn card at the end for watching a movie (if you are behind) — I have gotten spell cards in those scenarios, which may or may not be a bug.

I do agree that I wish spells were simply not part of the Arena at all, but Rovio makes money off of people buying gems and spells to get a leg up. So, I doubt they will remove them.

I also think I am playing real players, and I have won a LOT more since the update. Not sure why. But overall I feel like I am playing about as “real-time” as possible in a non-real-time setup.

But you are correct — leagues mean nothing. Not sure what the point is. There should be more incentive for going up to a higher league or at least treading water in the one you are in. If all goes well I will reach Diamond League for the next tournament, but I might not play at all (need a break). At least I can say I reached Diamond, and that’s enough for me.

I get those treasure chest one or two per DAY! Sometime I get an option of watching an ad for another chest, sometimes not. Chests every 30 minutes! How?

I always get an unwanted spell subbed for a replacement bird if my opponent has purchased extra birds. I believe this is yet another ploy to sell gems. I am about done with all this. I seldom use gems unless I get stuck on a level. Then I typically spend sixty gems= 3 birds to keep playing. This is after multiple attempts at that level. I have not purchased any spells in the Arena for a very long time.

I also think the arena opponents are actual games but I believe there are quite a lot of ringers. I have seen quite a few of opponents with every spell possible. Count up how much that costs. I also think choice of opponent is NOT random. Think you are given one easier opponent and if you win the next one is much harder. Just my impression. I am winning more as will but I, more and more, get the idea I am just being manipulated like a lab rat running a maze for a treat.

Have you updated your game? This is really odd.

And yeah, I feel like I am the only guy getting rewards every thirty minutes. because noone else is talking about it! Maybe this is Rovio experimenting with “specific gameplay” for end users. I have no idea.

As for “ringers”, I just call them, “people with money to burn”. I am trying to zero in on first place in my tourney, but I leave the game and then two hours later the first place person has put up thirty stars. They are spending way more than what they are going to get in rewards for winning — just for a virtual trophy. That’s not cheating, it’s not “ring”ing — it’s just exactly what Rovio wants to see — people spending real money on gems.

Hang in there — nothing more satisfying than beating someone who brings all five spells and still can’t get it done.

    Thanks,

Yep it updated about 5 days ago. Noticed here people had gotten the update. I was locked out of the tournament all that day until notified my game was updated late at night.

Yes, I actually beat those guys 60% of the time. I am at Diamond and the one thing good is since I got up here, with nowhere to go, it it’s easy to hang in the middle and not get demoted.

@rjallenxxx @sutekh137 — I did get a spell card today in one of the middle rooms in the arena. It was not one I used, so did not satisfy @Blankler’s criteria for “rare but possible situations.” Don’t remember if opponent used any spells, but think not. At the time I was well ahead and the free spell was an ME, so I was able to clear a difficult level, but of course, didn’t get many points.
