Angry Birds Transformers update version 1.6.15 (iOS) and 1.6.16 (Android) was released today and fixes the boot crash many players on both iOS and Android had been experiencing after updating to 1.6.11 / 1.6.13.

We received many reports that the app crashes before loading. Rovio is aware and actively working on a fix.
But wait! You can help Rovio pin-point the cause of the crash by giving them some basic information in the Forums Section.
This is what they need:
- a) which OS version is affected.
- b) which geographical region (city and/or country) is affected.
- c) what level of rank you’ve mastered in the game.
- d) if your iOS device might be rooted or jailbroken.

Thanks to @mighty-red-1, we managed to take a look inside, and it is Awesome!
- New Characters: Blue Streak and Prowl
- New Lab: Professor Pig’s Lab
- New Weapons: Energonicon … yep you can equip your autobirds with extra weapons
- Six (06) New Achievements.
- Silo’s Capacity has been increased … by a lot!
- Video doubles coins and pigs now.

I think it’s just affecting games that are already installed
I reinstalled my game after experiencing the crashing and now it works just fine all I had to do was restore my progress through the game centre.

Just tried a restore through ITunes and lost the game all together.
This completely sucks after months of playing.

Waited for the Character upgrades and the Missions to stop and then went to the app center to download the game. After the down load it appears to work fine. Still had all the pigs, coins and crystals.
After clicking on the ship on the bottom right and when one selects a character then taps the right button with all the equipment that can be added.
Question: Does this equipment improve the character’s abilities or performance in any way?

I am unclear about what to do in the dome and also how to obtain Energonicons and how they relate to the characters for game play.
