Those poor yellow birds just aren’t necessary on Angry Birds Surf and Turf level 4. Aim the lone red bird at the far tower and try to hit the rectangular wood block so it bounces back and hits the TNT. This explosion should take down the tower, take out both pigs, and do quite a bit of damage. The score in the video below is 79,030.

86810 – a no birder. If you wait long enough the tower will settle then topple and destroy everything of its own volition.

Is there anything beyond luck or coincidence to get a no birder? I think it depends on the moment you restart a level, but i couldn’t figure out a way to do it (still waiting for the tower to fall..).
nope. If the tower does not look like it is moving after about 20 – 30 seconds, restart and try again.

I guess I have never seen the tower move a bit unless for the first 2-3 seconds. I have encountered many other levels where after a small amount of time, at once something moves. With this level, I just don’t see it happen. No matter what I do, no matter how many restarts, it just sits there. Many points involved, so odd this is so rare.

It happend to me twice, the first time I lanced my bird before I new the tower could fall down :(
I chanced upon this strategy early on also. I had some free time and some cold beer so I set out to determine how frequently the tower fell on its own. I zoomed in on the game on my iPad and then waited a few seconds after the screen shifted to show the slingshot — just to be sure that I gave the tower a chance to settle. I added one to my count and repeated until it did fall and then recorded how many attempts it took. I did this for 100 tower collapses — it took 5,210 attempts. Occasionally, it would fall on back-to-back tries and once it took over 500 tries but the average is 52.1 tries which might take about 8 min. You can easily improve your score to 92k without spending too much time but I think that the 98k high score is pretty safe. In my 100 tower collapses, I reached 97k and 96k twice but typically only reached 88-92k.
Thanks for the stats jw. I just started trying this and got it to topple just twice so far but the frequency seems similar to your analysis. Both successes were in the mid 89k’s but I’m still trying for higher.
From what I can tell, after every restart, the tower sways to the left immediately. Sometimes it’s barely noticeable and sometimes it leans quite far before it stops. So after it stops leaning I just restart again, usually within 10 seconds. I don’t know if there’s any benefit to waiting any longer.
I don’t know how many times I reset the level when I was playing today, but I reckon about 20 or so… reset again and went to get a drink, came back to find I’d got 88k. So it worked, but I didn’t see it happen, and now I’ve got another 52.1 tries according to @jwgardenwiz to see it happen again. I’ve never had a no-birder before!

Just wondering- how long would you estimate for the tower to topple? I’ve been trying to zero bird this one and once or twice the right tower shifts to the left but doesn’t sway much after that. The middle section- the one with the wood support on the left and the stone support on the right moved about about 1/8 of the way and then stopped. thanks!
Pretty quickly, I would say within a minute or two.
I found that the little platform the piggie is sitting on shifts horizontally back and forth and doesn’t stop if it’s going to topple… it sort of does a little dance, slowly to the left, and it happens soon after you start the level. Once it stops that motion, I think you can safely restart.
I think you need to wait 30 sec to a minute for it to fall with any frequency.
Last time I visited this level I tried for at least 30 minutes for the zero birder. Today, I can get one at least once every five minutes. It doesn’t take long after the reset, about 5 seconds.

97370… 2-Days later because I had a THEORY. If this level can Fall by itself, than why not Give it -More Momentum. Shoot the Red bird high over the very Top (Blue Block-Right Corner)
Doing this Fast -is the Key to a Higher Score. Since the Tower is Already Swaying. The Bird May crack 1 to 2 barrels then Bounce back onto the Brick Forcing the Tower to come down.

I had the same, it just fell, I’m sure it has only happened once in hundreds of tries. You will notice fairly quickly if it’s going to shake more than just the first few seconds. Stinks though it’s just luck on how much is destroyed, and not based on technique.
Okay, just hit retry if it does not move within 5-10 seconds. If you look carefully, you will see it tremble a bit, just as the level starts. If you see a small shift to the left, it may happen, but it really is very rare.
Ok so this is weird..It finally did happen, a no-birdie but I only got 89880 not like others who got 98K and when I got it with a one birdie by hitting at the empty square box just above to the right of the tnt I got 89550…only slightly lower than my no birdie, lol…also it hapened a few times where the tower fell but didn’t get first birdie so I used red to take out first tower and only scored 75K something…very odd!
I have had it happen twice now, once 91k, then 95k. Pure luck, so not as rewarding, but I wanted to keep my score in check.
I think I’ve seen in happen 3 times so far out of way too many attempts at this level. First two times though I already had the first bird in motion before realizing what was happening.
Third, and successful, time I never even saw what happened. I’d just been starting the level, doing something at the computer, checking back after a while to see if the tower fell over on its own. Rinse, repeat. Finally it happened.
Are we all talking about the same level???? Mine doesn’t move a smidge!! No matter how much I restart the level. LOL
I had the same opinion at first, eventually it moved. It’s rare and seems to be this way for a few levels in S&T. I’m not a fan of it, as it does not show talent, but pure luck, and a ton of time/patience.
Best 1 bird score 90000; best no bird score 99100. Pure luck based on how tower falls.

I play on Android and got the self-collapse. I got my current score after an hours worth of resets and 10 different end results.
Ah OK – thanks for the confirmation. Sometimes I get paranoid about players on other systems having an unfair advantage when clearly they don’t!!
I think there are differences in some cases. (I’m convinced iPhone does not produce as much debris ever but that’s for another day.) I’m wondering, when people estimate, “about 1 in 50 resets,” does it make a difference whether one plays the level or not? Is it 50 times not touching a bird or 50 times playing every time? I ask because my one bird score is only 82k and I see others at 89k so I hate wasting a reset if there are another 7k points available in the worst case scenario. But this issue brings me back to the debris problem. It’s a simple shot that I’ve varied a hundred ways so why aren’t I able to get the same scores unless there is a platform difference? It’s not exactly a skill shot. But I’m really curious about whether playing the level instead of just resetting starts my counter back to zero. I don’t want to be the person who has to throw 500 to make the average 50, lol.
3 hours to go from 82k to 88470. Not ONCE did I get a zero bird clear. Actually fell asleep once and hit bomb powerup getting 91k so now anytime I get a legit high score I either have to enter the change immediately or write it down in case I forget. Wonder why I’m the one person with the patience and stamina who is NOT seeing this?
Fling little red to where he skims over the little stone piece in front of the TnT. It’s really the same approach as the video. But if you hit the TnT directly at the right angle, little red pushes through and does a little extra damage to the right tower and it will result in a higher 1-bird score.
Hey Ripsy while waiting for the collapse I have been following your 1 birdie strat and it got me above avg. so thank you for that, not to mention it gives you something to do inbetween the waits! Ha I figure I might get such a good score I won’t have to wait for a no birdie! LOL There’s always hope ;D

@rdnzlrips82 I’ve been tring to improve my ranking here for a few days. I guess I missed the 0 bird window. It appears to have been corrected by an update. If anyone gets a collapse in 2013, I wish they would post it to confirm. I give up and am moving on.
@pjdambra The weeble wobbles, but it won’t fall down. I tried it on my last run on ABO and appear to have gotten it just in time. I think it was v3.1.0 that fixed this one and the one on 12.

Nope. That’s why there’s only one score over 90K on the Facebook leader board. Obviously, there were some changes made to this version of S&T.
Yeah, I had to work HARD for my 90k over there. Over here, all I have to do is wait. One of the few levels that ABO has the advantage on.

Whoo hooo for the first time I had a self destructing level! I was beginning to think it just wasn’t in my stars but tonight is my Factor L night. It’s mt first 0 bird score :-) When played the tratitional way, I found that hitting the tower close to the TNT gave me my highest bird score. Hit the top of the open square block. Of course more points if the debris takes down the pier too.
Any one had luck with the no birder recently, I’m not having any luck?
Never mind, got the answer to my question soon after, it does still work, but of course it started to falling on its own right after I released the bird =P
Just improved my score with the 0-birdie, to 94240. Got 0-birds twice today within <20 resets. I am playing on iPad, which could be relevant, and as creator of the Self-Destroying Level forum, may have more experience than most. If there is any significant shift to the left within the first 10 sec, you need to wait maybe as much as a minute. Sometimes the self-destruction starts slowly and accelerates. Good Luck!
I don’t think zero bird works anymore. Been at it for 2 days. Lots of wobble and once had a real nice lean to the left. But nothing came of it. Let me know if anyone sees anything in 2013 and I’ll return.
The zero bird still works. I reset about 20 times before it happened. It did not take very long after the reset, about 10-15 seconds.
I have been waiting for the self collapse that I have read about here for about 60 minutes now and so far it just wiggles a little then stops, I did take a shot one of those times and the lower pier was totally gone, which is how I just scored 88240.
The score differential then amounts from about 1000 to 13000 more points with the self collapse, I can definitely use one of those.
I finally got it almost 2 hours later, but I think the score should have been higher after who knows how many resets.
I just got it again, but it was only for 30 more points than I had. Shooooooot.

@pjdambra, after reading your inquiry I went to S&T and tried for almost 3 hours to get the 0 bird kill again, but it seems that the glitch has since been updated, it just won’t give it again.
It also might be a program regulated glitch where it gives it after a preset number of attempts.
@Sadbird. Thanks for your quick response to my question. This is just such a frustrating level. It’s my lowest ranked level in the whole ABO game. I keep coming back to it like somehow I will finally get that lucky collapse. I should know better by now.. I’ve never had even one 0 bird score on any level, looks like this one wont be the first.
Like @sadbird I have not succeeded in a collapse and it has certainly had ample time. Is there any chance that Rovio have fixed the collapse I wonder. This score was with one bird and is higher by far than any up to date, it took me by surprise. Now back to trying for the collapse – @kathy – does this constitute an official whine lol, if so I expect the collapse on my next attempt
@windwalker I’m pretty sure the self-destruction was fixed months ago. I don’t see anything more than a bit of a wobble & I’ve spent a lot of time trying as have many others.
@welshwitch55 was your score of 102k on today’s challenge achieved with the self-destruction?
I don’t know. It’s an old score and I play so many different AB games, that I don’t keep track of what levels have glitches. I start playing as soon as the levels are released so it’s possible it was a pre-glitch fix score. I just play the games as they come.
ty for the reply @karen68 – oh woe, oh well I think I might move on and stop looking for the initial sway. As I said my scores were all in the 80s so I was really surprised by the 93 when it occurred. Will have to put the whining back in the cupboard.
A new high score! I kept aiming the red bird to land slightly above the tnt box, without hitting the piggie on the tower along the way. This allowed the tiny block right in front of the tnt to be thrown back at that piggie, while the red bird went on through the hollow wood blocks. Lots of debris from the thin tower was thrown to the left, which broke some of the glass on the ground. Of course, a lot of the destruction was just luck, esp. on the right side. Getting as much impact from the vertical stones on the wood pieces helps, and for this attempt, they eventually broke through the stone platform that everything’s resting on.

Hundreds of resets, hours of watching the tower tremble a bit then settle, no spontaneous collapse for this flinger. Very frustrating.
It’s not in the list of bugs fixes, but my tower isn’t falling either. Can anyone confirm it is fixed or do I need to be more patient..
Seems fixed to me. Tried it 400x and same wiggle every time.
I also have been trying since the Challenge came up. Although I have improved my score – no self-destruct. I’m on the computer version.
@welshwitch55 @karen68 et al. — Self-destruction that has been fixed is never(?) reported as a bug fix, since it is not considered a bug.
It would be interesting to hear from @welshwitch55 if she got the self destruction, and if so what version of the game was she playing and on what platform. I will change listing in Self-Destroying Levels forum if it really has been fixed.
iPad usually, sometimes iPhone if I’m bored at work. As I said, this is an old score that I would have obtained shortly after the initial release.
Well we know this High Score is at least four years old and perhaps even older. Level maxed out…..

BTW — You’re on the top in today’s challenge, which makes you eligible for a puppy (Underdog badge), but to get it you need to post a screenshot in your album AND post a strategy on this walkthrough page. Incidentally, scores obtained with total or partial self-destruction, even if played on an old version of the app are valid, but it would sure be nice to know how you got it.

@amslimfordy, I think levels that had self destruction or a bug/glitch that allowed some to get absurdly high scores should never be a daily challenge if the advantage was fixed/removed by Rovio in an update.
No fun playing a challenge when it will be totally impossible to beat the top scores which were achieved by a “fault” in the game that no longer exists. Just my thoughts on this. Doesn’t matter is it is requested by someone who might not realize the level was fixed with no chance to win a puppy.
Question needs to be ” why would users pick it?”. Is there a list of levels with glitches? If so they should be obsolete in challenges. If not, then how would users know? It’s useless to have a challenge with high scores that were attained by glitches. Doesn’t make the least bit of sense. It should be enforced that levels with glitches cannot be used for daily challenges.
@shamrockettes @gypsybird It’s a bit difficult to keep track of what levels had significant self-destruction, whether it was fixed, etc. @mvnla2 has a list in the forum but I’m not motivated to search through every potential-challenge level to see whether it once had a glitch or bug or something like that.
@amslimfordy, I know it is a lot of work to set this up and would take a bit more time to validate a level before putting it out there as a Daily Challenge. I definitely appreciate all the effort you and the other Admin put into this wonderful Nest.
I think it is a great idea to allow Nesters to request a level be used for the Challenge. I would suggest that a list of the known glitch levels be put on that page and just say that those levels are to be eliminated from being a challenge. Can catch them as we go along if any are missed.
I thought that @rdnzlrips82 had a list when the levels were being randomly rotated where he had flagged the glitch levels where super scores were achieved before the glitch was removed (IE: exploding Santa Hats). Can’t that be used along with what @mvnla2 has been gathering?

Yes…just not recently. It was just a suggestion for a possible solution to the dilemma a lot have with some levels being impossible to top once a glitch/bug has been removed by Rovio. If the self destruction is left in the game then ‘game-on’.
If there are extremely high scores because of a glitch or self destructing level (which is a bug or glitch) and the advantage to the score has been removed from the game, then it isn’t really fair to have a level like that as a challenge since no one can even come close to a top score. Not really a ‘challenge’ if it is absolutely impossible.
Of course, if these levels are still used for Challenges, whoever wants to play can, and whoever wants to forget it and just move on to improve their scores on other game levels can do that too. No biggie. Can’t please all the people all the time.

I posted a screenshot in my album. I don’t know what my strategy was other than to fling the red bird to the dynamite. The explosion knocks him back to take out the left tower and the right tower collapses as well. If it had a glitch, I don’t remember it. I don’t know how long the challenges have been going on, but I just started playing them this past week or so. And I thought I was serious about my bird flinging. I feel like I’ve been put on trial for a score that I don’t even remember getting lol. I’ve played the level today and can’t get my current score with one bird. I guess it’s a pre-glitch fix score. I don’t know.
@welshwitch55 — You said you posted a screenshot, but I can’t see it. Does it have restricted access? The only reason I’m asking is that I think you should get an underdog badge despite having gotten the score earlier.

This was an old score. I looked at the challenge, went to the level and that was the score I had. I typically hit the levels as soon as they come out. I’m sorry to say, but if don’t remember if there was a glitch or not. I will take a screenshot of my screen and post it. I typically never use power ups because I think it’s a cop out. When I get frustrated, I hit Mighty Eagle and that gives me a little satisfaction. I will play for hours until I get 3 stars. My husband knows when new levels come out by the number of 4 letter words he hears.
I’m not sure what else I can say about my score.
@welshwitch55 I second what @hunnybunny said about your honesty. Plenty of people would try to claim that as a brand-new score, and only succeed in infuriating everyone who’d been trying in vain to beat it :) If there was an Honesty Badge or something, I’d nominate ya.
Congrats on your score, and keep it up. You’ve beaten my scores a few times in the last couple challenges, and trying to return the favor keeps it fun. :)

@welshwitch55 congrats on your score. I dont play these levels, but I know all about glitches. Sometimes they work, sonetimes they don’t, sometimes Rovio has updated the level. And the glitch has gone.
However, the challenge is all about beating the current high score, on ‘the day of the challenge’. I think you were far too honest here, admitted it was a high score that you made some time ago, not on the day of the actual challenge. You could have got away with it, but I admire your honesty.
I know it’s hateful to enter all your old scores before you found ABN. But that is what we addicted nesters do.

Thanks Hunnybunny! I had started entering my scores last weekend and discovered I was posting them on the PC AB and had to delete them all! It’s going to take a while to get all of them posted since the only AB I haven’t finished are the two Star Wars versions. I had a bunch of email notifications regarding my score for this challenge, so I was compelled to reply and I wasn’t going to lie about it. I didn’t realize there were so many rules to the challenges or that it would cause such controversy. I wish there were a faster way to gather the scores than to open each level. Or is there?
@Welshwitch55 –I’m sure no one meant to put you on trial. People always want to know how the high score was obtained on the daily challenge, whether posted that day or previously. I’m sure your high score will stand, whether or not you get a puppy.
It’s up to the admins to determine whether or not you get a puppy. I can’t see how they could verify that anyone got the score they posted on the day of the challenge, but we’ll see.
In addition, the challenges recently switched from a list created by @rdnzlrips82 to levels suggested by users in a new forum created for that purpose. Since I maintain the self-destroying and unstable levels forum, I am always interested to know if a change has been made to a previously self-destroying level. I have not yet verified that the self-destruction no longer exists.
@mvnla2 Well, FWIW, I’m sure it’s fixed. I tested 2 platforms 400x and had no instability. You know how these creaky levels show signs that something’s unstable: motion, wood/ice/stone damage sound, points, scared/black eye pig, or variable shaking durations post-reset. Here, the post-reset shake times are identical. Reset, 1 shake, stop.
Plus, nobody’s reported it happening since July 3, 2013
@Kelani –Thanks! I think the evidence is pretty conclusive, so I plan to change the listing in the self-destroying levels forum.
@welshwitch55 you have to enter all scores manually, just look to to see if you have a high score once done, post a strategy and a screenshot, or just dump one in your album and mention that’s where it is. No more controversy on high scores.

@welshwitch55 — great score and welcome to ABN. A puppy is the coveted Underdog badge you get for beating the prior high score on the daily challenge. There is a page titled badges and ranks that can be accessed under the “About” tab at the top of the page. It will answer just about any question you may have.
I’ve been playing this level continuously for the past 2 hours and never got a no birder. Nothing toppled or ever fell over. Oh, well, I’m happy with my score anyway!
If anyone has seen self-destruction on this level since July 2013? That seems to be the last reported case above, and lots of people think it has been “fixed.”

@mvnla2, I’ve played this one since last night and even let my phone sit with the level open for 30 – 40 minutes today and restarted it a lot – there is a bit if shake (as it is on many AB worlds/levels when first started) but nothing fell and no freebie points were accrued. I play on an iPhone 5 that is fully up-to-date on IOS and the AB games.
@mvnia2, I haven’t played this level in a long while but will try it again and post my results. Jim
@mvnla2 you may be correct. I just tried to induce self-collapse by restartibg over 600 times with zero success. That doesn’t eliminate the possibility that self-destruction can still occur, but it does seem unlikely. If it does happen at all, it must be substantially less frequent than when Surf & Turf was first released.

Something is strange about this level. I played this level previously and posted it around 5/1/12 to 8/6/12 along with all the other first 15 levels for S&T. I have this marked off on my tracking sheet that I left a comment for this level at that time. My previous-1st play-three star score was 87,130 in 217th place and obtained a new score of 100,060 for 3rd place around this time frame.
On or around 8/10/12 I dropped to 4th place for this level.
From 8/6/12 through 8/10/12 I played and posted comments for levels 16 through 30. I have to somewhat agree with @Kathy comment that some comments or pages may have been deleted or we tried to post them and for a day of so given a server malfunction did not get posted.
Given all that, it probably does not matter at this present time frame except that now I am riding in the same “boat” as @welshwitch55 in recalling the strategy employed at that time.
1. My first inclination is that I used something like what rdnzlrips82 posted above.
2. Also obtained scores in the 80k with the video method.
3. Also tried two birds, one into the vertical wood planks and the second into the tnt area or right above it. Tried to obtain glass breakage for a higher score.
Presently, I have not got within 5k of my present score.
Also have not seen and do not recall this level as self-collapsing but others have so it must of occurred at some point in time.
