At long last! At very long last! Angry Birds Space has landed for iOS, PC, Mac, NOOK Color, and Android via the Android Market and Amazon Appstore. We will definitely know more as we delve a bit deeper into Angry Birds Space, but here’s what we know so far. The initial launch of Angry Birds Space includes:
- 60 gravity-defying levels: 30 from Pig Bang and 30 from Cold Cuts. The Angry Birds Space leaderboard is online and ready for your scores. Walkthrough pages are also up, so feel free to provide your strategies and help us track down those minimum 3 star scores.
- 30 brain-teaser, extremely difficult levels in an episode called Danger Zone. Our video walkthroughs are available, but we warn you that they are very challenging. On iOS, Danger Zone is an in-app purchase, though level one is already unlocked, so you can try one level before you chose to buy the episode for $0.99. On PC, Danger Zone unlocks if you pass all 30 levels Pig Bang. It is available for free on Samsung Android devices. As for other devices, only time will tell.
- A Golden Eggsteroids episode, which are the Angry Birds Space equivalent to Golden Eggs. This episode is locked by default. It unlocks once you’ve found your first Golden Eggsteroid. When found, Golden Eggsteroids unlock bonus levels, some levels pay homage to a few classic 1980’s video games. This is reportedly Rovio’s not-so-subtle nod to its video game predecessors.
- For iOS there are new achievements via Game Center. For the first time we’ve actually created some video walkthroughs that can help with some of the hard achievements.
- Poppable space suits (bubbles) on the home screen and throughout the game (i.e. check out the credits).
- New animated bird help menus that help you understand the different powers.
- The Space Eagle is making an appearance (see more below).
- Quick tip #1! Frozen pigs will pop on their own.
- Quick tip #2! To unlock the first level in an episode you need to hit the “Play” button and watch the first comic. Afterwards, you’ll be taken to the very first level.
- Quick tip #3! If you hit an Eggsteroid, like the one on level 1-9, you’re automatically transported via a wormhole to that Eggsteroid level.
- Quick tip #4! Lazer Bird isn’t affected by gravity when he’s targeting (after tap), but after impacting something gravity will exert force.
As you can tell, Angry Birds Space is launching on many platforms at once. Here’s a quick breakdown on the different flavors and their subsequent cost. Regardless of what version you chose, I’m sure the few dollars that it sets you back will be well worth it. In most cases it’s cheaper than a Happy Meal at McDonald’s.
- iOS: There are two flavors. The SD version costs $0.99 USD, which is identical to the other Angry Birds apps in the past. The HD version costs $2.99 USD, which includes retina support for the new iPad (colloquially, the iPad 3). At this time, it is unclear if there will be a free and/or trial version like the other three apps. Angry Birds Space for iOS will run on iPhone 3GS/4/4S, iPod Touch (3rd, 4th gen) and requires iOS 4.0 or later (iPad requires 4.2 or later).
- Android via Amazon Marketplace: There is a free ad-supported version, a $0.99 ad-free version, and a $2.99 HD version for Kindle Fire (nice!).
- Android via Android Market / Google Play: Just as above, there is a free ad-supported version, a $0.99 ad-free version called “Premium”, an a $2.99 HD version for tablets. Requires Android OS 1.6, just as before.
- PC: $5.95, a dollar more than the other Angry Birds apps in the past (the extra dollar may be for Danger Zone being included). There is also a demo available which allows you to play levels 1-1 through 1-15 of Pig Bang.
- Mac: $4.99 and requires OS X 10.6.6 or later.
Understanding The Mighty Space Eagle
The Mighty Space Eagle has arrived, although it’s not exactly what you’re used to! On iOS at least, we first see the option to use the Space Eagle on level 1-11 of Pig Bang. The Space Eagle pops out of the sardine can through a wormhole and quickly blasts the surrounding area before returning to Earth. There are a few important differences though.
- You must have at least one unfired bird in the slingshot to use the sardine can.
- Most notably, the Space Eagle isn’t buy once, unlimited use. Rather, it’s treated more like a power-up. On iOS you receive three trials and then are prompted to purchase more. You can buy 20 cans for $0.99, 80 for $2.99, 280 for $7.99, or 980 for $19.99. We should also mention that you can earn Space Eagles via gameplay, though probably not enough to make significant progress in feather collecting.
- Using the Space Eagle does NOT automatically pop all pigs and clear the level, like it does in the other versions of Angry Birds. You must keep flinging.
- We’ve heard reports that the number of birds you use actually affects your destruction percentage. In the past the birds could help you, but didn’t directly affect your percentage. This is unconfirmed.
Let’s Find those Golden Eggsteroids! Clues Abound
Update! We’ve found all five Eggsteroids and our Complete Angry Birds Space Golden Eggsteroids Guide is ready and waiting if you need it. The Golden Eggsteroids leaderboard is up as well, so head on over and enter your scores.
If you want to track them down the Golden Eggsteroids yourself, we’ve outlined the clues we’re aware of below. If you aren’t interested in sleuthing for clues, our Complete Golden Eggsteroids Guide is available as a shortcut. Okay, on to the clues we know exist so far:
- One hint is available by participating in MTV’s “A THIN LINE” campaign, which we wrote about a few days ago.
- Several hints will available via Walmart, both by their Facebook page and by physical Angry Birds Space merchandise. Supposedly their Facebook Page will be updated with a clue today. But that’s not all. Per this USA Today article, “three more clues will be hidden in a new line of limited-edition plush toys, T-shirts and candy that the retailer will begin selling on Sunday. The 5- and 8-inch plush birds ($9.97 and $14.97, respectively), $6.97 T-shirt and Space Fruit Snacks ($2.18) could have clues on the price tag, in the packaging or within the shirts.”
- Furthermore, T-Mobile stores within Walmart will offer a free level to those who buy an Android smartphone. We’re not sure at this time if this is an exclusive level or some type of unlock.
Lastly, I should also add that all Samsung users have access to a bonus Golden Eggsteroid. Since it’s not available for everyone it’s not included on our leaderboard.

Well I have now found 5 Eggsteroids, But I am stuffed if I can figure out how to get 3 stars on E2 (Eggsteroids 2)?
What one? 1-20 thing(Mario level)?
Yes, I think so. The one where you fire the red bird at the grey stone above and a pig drops, then you have a blue bird to shoot at the pig or the blocks.
OK, here’s how. Shoot red bird to hit very low point of stone that pig pops up. If hit correctly, one of these will occur:
1)Red bird will be dropped late because of wooden block, and pig will hit red bird and suicide.
2)Red bird will hit another stone to summon carrot or radish(maybe). If carrot is summoned, pig will crash into carrot and die. When it is radish, red bird will also fall to floor and kill pig.
Then you will earn over 15000 points and get 3 stars.

One other question, for those who have already downloaded PC version- is it still an option to install the game on three devices? I noticed that some versions have some pricing changes and wanted to find out before I bought this version. I usually install it on my netbook and the children’s PC and didn’t want to have to pay for it twice. thanks for any help!

Slim… It took me 3 hrs, but I narrowed down the 3 star threshhold for E-1 (what the pause screen names the 1st Eggsteroid level, from level SPOILER ALERT (see below for level number))….
Where should we post these (I have a bunch now)?
This level was hard to pin down as the bubble and space-invader-blocks are all worth only 400 pts, while the pigs 5k and birds are 10k unused. Meaning that scores in the X3,000 to X4,990 range are nearly impossible to get.
In any case 22000 is 2 stars while 25000 is 3 stars, making 3 star threshhold for level E-1 23k, 24k, or 25k (25k being the lowest I could confirm).
It would be great to have a central thread to post these scores so that score gathers and others can see what has already been determined, and I’d imagine it would also help you to have all 3 star threshholds in one place.

E-1 is obtained in Episode No. = i to the zeroth power; Level No. = the binary compliment of six.

Don’t know why Rovio hates us Symbian users so much. All the updates come often weeks after the initial release and now, no release for this game and no info whether there is a Symbian release at all. I mean, it is not that there are no Symbian users out there…
Rovio has publicly said that there are no active plans to bring Space to any platforms other than the four today.

How do we get Danger Zone on Android?
Is anyone else having a problem with the app crashing in the iOS platform? It’s crashing like hell for me. Everytime I pause the game it crashes and sometimes right in the middle of playing it will go down. I’m playing on an iPod Touch 4th gen, and while ever since I upgraded to iOS 5.0 I’ve had issues with apps and Safari crashes (as have a lot of people), it’s nothing like this. Curious if anyone else has this same issue.
I also downloaded the game on my LG Spectrum Android phone and it runs flawlessly. I may have to just play it there…but I’ll miss game center!
I’m using ipad, and in an hour of play, it crashed like 3 or 4 times — sometimes when I was in the middle of the game, sometimes when it just finished showing the little video. It doesn’t seem to me there is a pattern of the crashes, so I guess they have to tackle this stability issue in the next update.
Could try restarting your device.
I am playing on iPod 4 ,But whit IOS 5 , After 19 levels it Crashed many times , I restarted many times , and still crashing. I also contact Rovio and make a complaint about it. I asked for an update to fix it . No answer until know from them.
I’m on an Android, Motorola Droid 2. It spontaneously quit on me a couple times. But it just did an update. I’m assuming that was a glich fix of some sort.

I updated my Xoom about an hour ago. Since nothing seems to have changed, I think it safe to assume that the “update” were bug fixes.

Danger Zone Level 1 – spent some time trying everything and finally 3 starred it, 92390. The only way to do it is send the ice bird at the very edge of the planet above and have it curve around to the TNT that is next to the tower that connects the 2 planets. Make sure it takes down everything. Next bird send right into where the two orbits overlap and split the birds right in the center of the overlap. One bird will pass through the ice block of the first tower and the next will travel all the way to the TNT on the second. It takes some tries to match the splitting of the birds and the proper spot where the orbits overlap but you’ll get it. It beats wasting your time trying to do it any other way.

I was wondering if there was a program or an update I could get for my iPhone to get ABS to work on it. iPhone software is up to date, so I guess I’ll have to upgrade my phone….
The app is not designed to run on older-gen iOS devices. I don’t know of any workaround.

I love the options this creates. Clockwise, or counter clockwise? High orbit or low orbit? first pass or second pass?, Glancing impact with a secondary somewhere else, or direct hit? So many different ways to play each level. I spent an hour this morning just messing around with the first few levels.
in the description for the app it says ipod touch 3rd generation will not run the game. But here you say it will. I have a 16 gig 3rd generation touch and want ot know if it will work
I had the same question (I have a 32GB 3rd Gen iPod touch). I spent 99 cents for the answer, which is, it appears to work just fine.
On my phone Angry Birds Space take 1 minute to load! Does anyone know why? This happend in Angry Birds Original and Angry Birds Seasons too!
Anybody else unable to load the game on Android? I downloaded and installed through amazon but the game refuses to load and screen goes black.
And when you kill a pig the 5000 points does not show, but you get the points. And when you have some birds again when you are finished a level the 1000 points does not show, but you get the points here too. Why does not this things not shows?

Different games display differently, not sure why:); as long as the points register, I wouldn’t worry. As far as the game not playing- it could be that your phone is an older one. I had an older android -htc hero- and the games would eventually load, but it would take 60 to 90 seconds sometimes. If you go to Rovio’s site, you can find a list of Android devices that will run AB games properly. Amazon does try to screen out games that don’t work on your particular device, but it does miss some. You could try uninstalling and re-installing the game, that might work. I hope that helps.

Idk about anyone else but this app on the ipod touch keeps crashing. It loads to the main screen but when I press the play button to get to the levels, it just crashes. I want to play it so bad, ugh.
Try restarting your device, and watch the language please.

Three starred all of Pig Bang. Haven’t tried Cold Cuts yet. Also three starred the first Danger Zone level. I had 16 Space Eagles earned from three starring Pig Bang. I managed to get the feathers for the first five levels only. The game is incredibly impressive. Having to pay for Eagles at such a high price if you want to obtain all the feathers, not so impressive. Being the type of person I am, who has three starred all levels and gotten all feathers in every other AB game, this seriously bothers me. I am not spending a fortune on a 99cent game just to be able to say I got all the feathers. No thanks.
