Angry Birds Space Lands on BlackBerry Playbook

While many Angry Birds enthusiasts await the forthcoming “Fry Me to the Moon” update for Angry Birds Space, Rovio has surprised the community by releasing Angry Birds Space on the BlackBerry Playbook. That’s right, BlackBerry users can now enjoy Angry Birds Space in full HD on their Playbook tablets for $2.99 USD! BlackBerry users, to purchase, head on over to Rovio’s developer page in the BlackBerry App World store.

The Playbook version features Pig Bang and Cold Cuts, along with the five sequential Eggsteroids. Here are the details straight from the BlackBerry App World store:

  • 60 interstellar levels!
  • Regular free updates!
  • Brand new birds!
  • Brand new superpowers!
  • Zero-gravity space adventures!
  • Trick shots using planets’ gravity!
  • Hidden bonus levels!
  • Beautifully detailed backgrounds!

As you can see, Danger Zone and the Space Eagle are not yet available, but that’s okay, there is still plenty of HD fun to be had.

This release is definitely a surprise, since originally Rovio announced that it had no immediate plans to bring Space to platforms beyond iOS, Android, PC and Mac. As for other platforms, only time will tell.

Has AB been available for Blackberry phones?

@PlayDBird no, and I doubt it will ever happen. BB phones are dying in sales.

That’s why I inquired – I thought they were putting themselves up for sale. I guess Rovio makes money anyway, but it just surprised me a little to hear anyone was doing anything with Blackberry anymore. I guess I can understand the Playbook, but I wanted to know if anyone can play AB on a traditional BB phone.

@AMslimfordy – The PlayBook isn’t exactly flying off the shelves either…and if memory serves correct, you need to tether it to an existing BB device to check email (which you just stated were dying). A definite surprise.

@heathen I heard that as well. It’ll be interesting to see how many downloads this gets! :)

Seems like Blackberry users caught themselves a small break, and good for them.

Sure, I agree it’s not doing great, but Playbook is their best selling product. Also, from what I remember months ago, Rovio said the Playbook’s OS was pretty close to existing platforms (I think Android, most notably), making the transition easier.

It seems like it would be hard to play on a BB phone… the screen is small, and the keyboard takes up a lot of room. It would be hard to fling a bird without hitting a key, or tapping the wrong place

If the picture is depicting an actual BB Playbook, it looks like my Xoom with more external connections. That is to say fairly tablet-like, so I don’t see any problems with bird flinging.

I think @oobgular17 was referring to a BB phone, rather than the playbook. Often, the BB phones aren’t even touchscreen either! :)

Good for the BlackBerry Playbook players! Is BlackBerry Playbook like an iPad?

Any tablet is like an iPad, but iPad is better… in terms of AB and AB update times. :)

FYI – Playbook can run a lot of Android apps-many have been repackaged and are available on Blackberry’s app market. You can also find some apps on line and install them yourself. My son has one-he is a BB fan and loves his. It is just slightly bigger than my Kindle Fire. It has 64 GB of on board memory. It’s actually a very nice device, great screen and nice size. Blackberry was giving them to Android developers for use in developing apps to run on it. You don’t have to tether to a BB if you can use a wifi connection. He downloaded AB Space just tonight and it plays very well. The other AB games are available on Blackberry’s market, as well.

Why is it that iOS has Danger zone and the space eagle, Androidsupport has Danger zone, but BB has neither? Seems peculiar

It should be noted that Android does not have DZ except for Galaxy Devices which have Danger Zone already
