Happy New Year — or almost New Year — Angry Birds fans! What an amazing 2011 it has been! I think we can safely say that 2011 was the, “Year of Angry Birds”. Fortunately, 2012 seems to be shaping up to be an even bigger and better year. Case in point, in addition to the “New Year’s” Golden Egg that can be found today, a new teaser video released by Rovio confirms our suspicions that the next Angry Birds Seasons update will celebrate the Year of the Dragon. I imagine it will be similar to Moon Festival, but who really knows.
Lastly, a BIG “thanks” to everyone who has helped make AngryBirdsNest.com the best Angry Birds site on the web. I think we’re argueably the best game fan site there is, but I’m just a wee-bit biased.

Wow, Season’s updates two months in a row! Rovio is spoiling us, or really feeding our addictions….
…and yet they can’t get a Thanksgiving season… the most perfectly matched season/holiday for a bird based holiday/season game.
Maybe in the future.
But Thanksgiving is about feasting on birds/poultry. I don’t want to picture my AB’s served up on a platter! :-)
Also Thanksgiving is an American thing. Not everybody celebrates Thanksgiving. (Or at least not the way we do :P)
In my country we neither celebrate St. Patrick nor Moon Festival, so I would not mind a Thanks Giving theme.

OK….but unless you are in China, when do you celebrate Mooncake Festival? Is this upcoming year your year of the Dragon?
With the intro of Mooncake Festival and the upcoming Year of the Dragon update, Rovio has shown that they can successfully introduce more region/country specific themes. Thanksgiving is no exception. While primarily an “American” holiday, it’s knowledge and impact is felt worldwide on a grander scale (and I am not talking about the historical impact…I’m referring to the business impact) than Mooncake Festival or upcoming Year of the Dragon update. All I am saying is that there is no reason that a Thanksgiving season can’t be successful, even though it is not celebrated worldwide.
I wouldn’t mind, but the proximity to Christmas (IIRC) would probably mean they would have to forgoe the Christmas theme (which is celebrated worldwide) or push two updates really close to one another (which I wouldn’t mind!) either way, thanksgiving could provide interesting variations, such as saving the birds in a similar way to Rio, rather than killing pigs!
Why forgo a Christmas theme? Why forgo any Season/theme. As it stands now, they pushed two updates rather close together, and a third is on it’s tail later this month. With proper planning, they could get all three end of the year Seasons (Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas) in two updates which is the same number of updates they had this past year (a Halloween update, then a combo Thanksgiving/Christmas one…Christmas will prob remain advent calendar style, so releasing it with Thanksgiving will remain a teaser until Dec 1), or even with just one (that might be a headache doing, plus there isn’t a scheduled release to fix any bugs that might crop up).
In actuality, the Wreck the Halls and “Chinese New Year” updates are about 7 weeks apart. By contrast, a Thansgiving and Christmas update would only be 4 weeks if they dropped the Advent style, and about 5 days if they kept it.
i would love it if they had the advent style so it could be like a week and a half apart! :D

It’s unbelievable how great Rovio is with the amount of content they provide for just $.99. I can’t wait for the update. And I’ve said this before but this site is amazing and just as addicting as the game. Still trying to get my first number on spot on the leader boards. Happy New Year to all the Bird Brains!

Whoo hoo! I’m happy to see another Chinese festival. As I’ve said before, it would be great to get a truly global Seasons.
As for the update after this one – I’ve noticed that there are now plush lady birds available for order. Another Valentine’s update perhaps? There’s also a ‘nerdy birdy’ plush which is a bit odd.

Seasons 2011 started in october 2010 and ended with mooncake festival. Seasons 2012 started in October 2011 and will PROBABLY have the same events, and end with mooncake festival. This update might be an extra and not be in Seasons 2012
I don’t think 2012 would have the exact same updates as 2011 did. Just because 2012 and 2011 have the same seasons so far doesn’t mean that they would be the same all the way. Not much people would play if the 2012 and 2011 packages were similar.
I think this makes it quite clear that Rovio wants to add some new Seasons, and likewise I would think a few “2011” ones will be skipped.
Maybe they will do chinese new year theme for every year with different animals. They can use snake for 2013.
I hope they will do monkey in 2016… that’s my year… (dreaming…) :P
The Chinese Calendar says that the “Year of the Dragon” begins on Jan 23rd. This could be the date ROVIO releases the next update. Its just a guess, no real proof. Either way, I am VERY impressed with all the updates they have launched on Seasons in less than 6 months – Summer Pignic, Mooncake, Hamoween, Wreck The Halls and now Year of the Dragon! Those folks at ROVIO are some hard workers! Makes me wonder if they let their employees beta test all these new updates first…that would be really cool!

Downloads in the US is on its way down. In China (the second largest Angry Birds base), it’s rising.

But the more diversity, the better IMO. I want to see how others celebrate their holidays, even if it is by showing small flightless birds destroying green piggies.
What about Halloween and Valentines day? They are celebrated in lots of countries now, but I would say they are typical American celebrations.
with two thirds ( and counting ) of the world’s population living in Asia, any company that wants to be global will focus some of it’s marketing energy on that continent.

More than happy with the Chinese New Year update. Being from the UK I would also like to see a special update for the Queen’s Jubilee and one for Guy Fawkes Night. Not sure how they could pin it to a season as such but I am dying to see a space themed update as well. I loved the level in the summer update.
Yeah, and of course there must also be an episode about the national holiday of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines!

Must be referring to the dragon silhouette in the video. Don’t think it’s going to be a new bird because, technically, a dragon isn’t a bird…
Maybe Rovio will let us use the dragon in the new update. Who knows? we can only use the dragon in the new update, because it is for Chinese new year. It will be only for that chapter of angry birds seasons that we will be able to use the dragon.
It looks alot like Mighty. It’s probably him (I’m guessing).
I agree with Kartflyer and Silent assassin. It looks a LOT like mighty facing his beak to the left. I don’t see how that could be a dragon OR a new bird, but i might be wrong
It’s definitely a dragon that looks similar to Mighty Eagle, but this does not mean that we can play that dragon in the game, but it is possible.

It is likely not the Mighty Eagle, but I also believe it is not a “playable character”

Happy New Year’s to everyone on ABN. I can’t wait for the next update. I can’t believe Rovio is working so hard on releasing these updates. I got to give them credit. For the next few weeks, I’m going to study for my finals and take the exams. Until then, I’ll check for updates on Amazon and ABN comment on the site after the finals.
