Fresh on the heels of the announcement that the next chapter in the Angry Birds Seasons franchise would be aptly named, “Summer Pignic” comes the official trailer (below). The trailer is interesting and warrants it’s own post for a couple reasons.
First, it answers the question as to what platforms the next Angry Birds Seasons update will this be released on: iOS (iPhone, iPad, iTouch), Android, Mac, PC, Palm, Symbian, and Nook. Holy bird brains Batman!
Second — and much more interesting — based on what Rovio said on their Facebook page the trailer may contain a clue as to something new coming later this summer. Here’s what Rovio said, “Get ready for a Summer Pignic, Angry Birds Seasons style! Check this trailer, featuring a teaser of a special treat coming later this summer, and don’t forget to get Angry Birds Seasons for your device.”.
After watching the video the first time I didn’t notice anything, but after watching the video again a few things started to standout. For instance:
- The intro text says, “One Bird. One Mission. Save the Eggs from the Green Pigs.” I guess that could be describing normal game play, but “one bird” doesn’t sound normal to me.
- Right after that there is a shot of a pig in what looks to be a safari hat, but the in-game footage shown later shows pigs in sunglasses.
This is just pure speculation and I may be totally wrong, but to me it looks like the first part of the video is showcasing something new, while the latter part is the actual Summer Pignic trailer.

It is the boomerang bird. It’s just the style. Remember the poster of all seven of the birds looking in fear over the Mighty Eagle? The Boomerang Bird had the same look on that image. There are two artistic styles for drawing the Angry Birds characters.
It could be a trailer for a new series of animated films?
maybe there might be a upperPig so the pigs became very evil and caught all birds without one bird, which has to release the caught birds.

The start of the video looks like a movie trailer, so my guess is that they’re doing an Angry Birds animated short or something like that to be included as a special feature on the Rio dvd release? Aside from that I have no other ideas.
PK88, what is the special feature? Angry Birds Rio features may not be in Rio dvd. Rio dvd release will be open in tsgroup.com in late July.

I know what the clue might be! The green bird might be added to the new update of rio!!

Know that Blu (and Jewel) is the star of Rio. Blu and Blue Bird can have the same name. :)

I saw on rovios website that they recently acquired Kombo animation studio in Finland so maybe the special summer treat is an angry is an animated series? Could this be there first project together?

Maybe we only get one bird for each level in the summer picnic update.

Weird that it shows the boomerang bird, but has the white bird in one of the levels. Probably not just one bird. I can’t wait for the update, finally Angry Birds Seasons will come to PC.

Maybe new addition to Rio, it seems to go by the storyline of the movie for what I know, is there a safari part in the movie?
TripleXero, there was a safari part in the Rio the movie. Where Blu and Jewel are still chained together, walking through the jungle (but there was no monkeys there at that time).
On the safari hat there is a picture of a crown.
On their website it said they acquired an animation studio – the “treat” is probably some animated mini-show on their channel. If not, a new bird is possible. The “one bird” part is still puzzling me.
And when is Angry Birds Seasons coming to PC?

Well, they accomplished one thing, getting our curiosity up. One bird could mean that each level can get 3 stars with only one bird. Or it could mean there might be an introduction of another bird. I like the pig shape clouds!

Yep, it is out on iOS, but there are 5 more levels than the seasons greedings. 30 levels in total. It also comes with a awesome new theme song. Looks like I will be busy this summer!

I think rovio made this verision to celebrate 30 days of summer. But who knows, it might be a countdown to the special treat!

I’m on an iPhone 4 running the latest software, 4.3.3 I think it is.
Go into app store, select the purchased apps thing at the top of the updates page, scroll down to find ABSeasons and it should say UPDATE next to it. That’s how I solved the problem.
And yes, it does operate like the seasons greedings levels, 1 per day.
Thats another great way! Thanks! I might use that way next time. I went to the update tab and the app store finally notified me of the new update for ABSeasons! Too bad I updated it about 30 minutes before the notification! LOL
Im in the us. Look up Angry Birds Seasons, and if it has a new icon, and can not wait, like me, buy it again. iTunes will not subtract money from your account if you bought it before from the same account. I worked for me… but I don’t know if it will work for you though. Maybe you should play it safe and wait for the app store to notify you that the game needs to be updated.
That’s good, it’s not just me. The summer version shows up in the iOS app store, but not as an update. With all the problems that other recent updates have caused I’m not going to go reinstalling and risking not starting or losing scores.

This is how I did it. I left the game on my iPhone, I went into the app store and I brought the app again with no cost, and it updated. No scores were lost. That was my way. But if you want to play it safe and don’t risk losing a dollar, just wait for the app store to give you the symbol that the game needs to be updated.
When I hit the ‘check for updates’ button in iTunes I was told ‘No updates’. However, when I clicked on AB Seasons in my list of Apps and then hit ‘check for updates’, the update came up right away.
update out in App store…..but 24 hour lock between levels….guess they worked out how to keep us 3 star ppl occupied each day!! Very clever but frustrating!!!!!!

I actually enjoyed the 24 hr lock in Season’s Greedings. I woke up each morning eager for the new level (and wanting to 3-star it before I went to work – I was successful except for a couple of days) and on the whole I think it was a fun way to play the game.
But at that time I was playing on an Android phone which I have now given up as a way to play AB. I got way too sick of the ads so I’m now playing on an iPod Touch and I don’t have a ready internet connection with it. Oh well, guess I’ll be visiting B&N or Starbucks every day….
Next February I can get an iPhone, there will be AB sync available, and life will be perfect.

Concerning the clue.. this is kind of a long shot, but i noticed that the iphone shown on the video has a square home button, instead of the usual circular one. Prediction of the iphone5? it’s due later this summer.. I really doubt that Rovio would be advertising an apple hardware feature but i couldn’t ignore this detail. I browsed some older adds from Rovio and they all show iphones with regular home buttons!
As I said, kind of a long shot.

Set time to 22 July, but no luck to unlock the rest 29 levels!
No way it syncs with Rovio servers or sth to check the date :)
There are files in the update, one per level, which has the prompt to unlock levels after midnight on the specific date. However, dating back to Seasons Greedings, Rovio’s FAQ said that an internet connection was required for your FIRST PLAY. Thus, the first time you open the game, it automatically logs exactly what time it is, and the countdown begins. No way of fooling it once you’ve opened the game once.

Minimum 3-star score is exactly 110k. Confirmed with a 2-star at 109+ an 3 at 110+.
