Alright, I have a copy of the Rio DVD in hand and I think it clears up a lot of confusion. I will do my best to articulate this for everyone. How you obtain the new “Golden Beachball” episode differs depending whether you’re on a iOS/Android device or PC/Mac. It’s unclear if other platforms will be supported, but at this point the instructions the come with the DVD currently say, “Available on iOS and Android only” (in addition to the PC & Mac). I’ve broken the instructions below and linked to the scanned images of the actual inserts found in the Rio DVD / Blu-ray (sorry, the code is obscured).
First though, a bit of background on the new episode. Currently the “Golden Beachball” episode contains 15 levels. Most of the levels are quite fun and some are actually pretty challenging. The leaderboard and walkthroughs are ready!
Updates:
- The latest update for Symbian includes the Golden Beachball Episode
Weird bug (caught on video): for some people once you unlock the Golden Beachball levels it will show you have 17 out of 15 watermelons. If you watch the video below very closely you can see the count change after FujiToast returns to the episode selection screen after obtaining the Golden Beachball.Fixed in the Airfield Chase v1.3.0 update.- There are currently no achievements available in Golden Beachball (this was likely done to keep it a secret).
- If you have issues it looks like Rovio and Fox have a dedicated support email address: [email protected].
- Mac users can now obtain the Golden Beachball episode, but not in the traditional manner (see below).
Instructions for Mobile Devices View DVD Insert Instructions
To unlock the new episode you have to find the Golden Beachball that is hidden in an existing level (video walkthrough below). You DO NOT have to enter a code. This works in both Angry Birds Rio and Angry Birds Rio Free (as of the v1.2.0 update).
- Launch Angry Birds Rio select Beach Volley and head to level 6-13. In Angry Birds Rio Free head to level 3-2.
- Now you need to drop a bird below the slingshot platform as shown in the video below (click here to see the graphical instructions). To do this lightly pull back on a red bird and fire him almost straight up. You want him to fall in the crevasse right in front of the slingshot, but he’ll need enough force to roll for a bit. Once you drop the bird in the opening below the slingshot the Golden Beachball will pop up (it is not visible until you get your bird down there). If your bird has enough speed it will rollover and get it.
- Once you hit it the levels will now be available. Head back to the level selection screen and swipe to the left in order to access the new levels!
Instructions for PC View DVD Insert Instructions
- If you already have installed the latest update (v1.2.2) for Angry Birds Rio PC open it up. If you haven’t yet installed it head over to download.angrybirds.com and download and install it.
- Now launch Angry Birds Rio and click “Redeem Code” and enter the code found on the insert that came in the DVD or Blu-ray copy of Rio. Caution: per Rovio, this code will only work ONCE, so make sure your entering on the computer you want to play on. Also, if you purchase the movie digitally — say through iTunes — you won’t get a code, so take that into consideration.
- Upon successfully activating your code the Golden Beachball levels will open up.
Instructions for Mac More Info about the Angry Birds Bonus Version
Note, for unknown reasons the Angry Birds Rio v1.2.2 Mac update didn’t contain the Golden Beachball episode, so Rovio has offered up a new method of obtaining it.
- Head to http://riodvd.angrybirds.com (opens in a new window)
- Once there scroll down a bit and in the gray instruction box click the “Mac” tab at the top.
- The first arrow prompts you to, “Download Angry Birds Rio Bonus Version from here.” Download it to your Mac. Note, that is says “OS 10.6” or better required.
- Once it’s downloaded double-click it and drag the Angry Birds Bonus icon to your Applications folder. It’s now installed. Launch it!
- If you have a copy of Rio on DVD or Blu-ray and haven’t used the secret code yet, click “Redeem Code” and enter the code found on the insert that came with the movie.

So what’s the point of buying the DVD if I got the levels buy hitting the secret beach ball? Do I still need to buy it f I wantthe levels?
You need a code if you’re playing on a PC or Mac.
i tried to get the golden beach ball on level 6-13 on my mac and pc and it didn’t work for me.

I’m using nokia’s OVI suite and it’s not popping up. No updates, are there for me, apparently? And I’ve only got the first 15 levels of the carnival levels. I don’t know what to do about updating?

The Mac update is waiting at Apple, I assume. Once it is approved, you will have the redeem option.
As per the updated post above, the Mac is waiting on an update. I presume it’s been submitted and is waiting on Apple’s permission. As soon as the update is available you’ll be able to redeem your code and access the new episode.
Finally, 3 starred all these 15 bonus levels!!

Same level I am having trouble on! 3 starred all the rest, some very interesting concepts here.
Just got it 131,600. Yellow bird at the board covering up the shaft between the first two towers. White bird aimed at the top of the shaft drop the egg to the bottom and have it bounce into the cluster above destroying both towers and leaving onty the right side. Then yellow bird to break the floating brick and smash into last tower finishing it all up. Took 50 some tries. Good luck.

I am anxious to see how my scores stack up with everyone else. Some of these levels have been a little challenging to get 3 stars. If you lose at one of the Golden Beachball levels with the birds to rescue, you will hear some marmosets laughing!!

If you go to the levels menu, you can see that the “Buy ABS” button is not updated (still shows easter eggs).
This was always in levels with Marmosets.

that’s kind of unfair to Mac/PC users because we pay more for the game, but the iPhone and Android version gets it for free. :(
Yeah, I thought this too and I’m honestly not sure why this is the case. We’re just the messenger here, but as it stands the information we’ve presented is accurate. Ultimately this is a deal between Fox and Rovio.
I purchased the movie on Blu-ray and unlocked the bonus game levels. The film actually makes it a worthwhile purchase. In addition to getting the bonus levels on the PC version, the movie is actually awesome.
Well, that really sucks. i’m from bangladesh and RIO original dvd will not come here ever. not a single original dvd is found here. i bought the game and after this, really bugging me out why did i buy this game……………

I’m not sure what Amazon’s shipping policy is, but I would think that they could ship a DVD or Blu-ray to you. I’m not sure if you’d be able to watch it though, as I believe they’re still region coded. Assuming your PC version shows “Redeem Code” I would think it would at least work. I can’t guarantee any of this, but that’s my best guess.
So I see the PC instructions but I bought it on line and downloaded it. How do I get the Golden BB then???

I got ABRio (v1.1.4) from Intel AppUp and the 1.2.2 update isn’t yet available there. I’ve emailed them to inquire – any word on this while I wait for a response?
I have a feeling AppUp is going to lag behind as they are really pushing the standalone version now. Sorry. Let me know what they say.

Honestly not sure if they will release a patch or not.
The real issue here is if you buy the movie via iTunes, you do not get a insert code to use if you have the PC version – all you get is the iTunes extra thing showing how to unlock it on the iOS and android devices.
Yep, that seems to be the case. Currently, if you want to unlock the new episode on a PC or Mac you have to purchase the DVD or Blu-ray.

I have tried and tried this on the Free Rio HD version for the iPad and I can’t seem to get the beach ball to appear… My bird is rolling past the last point of the floating mound… and still nothing…
I think Rio Free needs an update before this will work. Hopefully the update lands soon.

I tried it on PC on 6-13, didnt work. I bought the DVD and got the secret code. Put it in, it worked, and everything is awesome! But there one really unfair thing…iPhone and Android users can easily get the beach ball through the Internet. But PC users have to buy a DVD they dont need to get only 15 levels! Not fair at all!
Also, will you post Golden Beach Balls Walkthroughs? Im dying to get 3 stars on all of them.

You can get the Golden Beachball levels in Angry Birds Rio Free version by going to level 3-2. I tried scanning the boards and didn’t see any mention of it.

Finally 3 starred all 15 levels (no achievement though, as far as I can tell). Levels 5 and 10 took a lot of tries. These were a fun 15 bonus levels!
Surprisingly, ALL the golden beachball levels are on the free version of Rio. I don’t have the paid version because I am still trying to decide if I should buy it, is Rio worth it?
I was trying to show a co-worker how to get the new levels on her phone today. I got the paid versions first on my iPod, so I was confused when I saw all of the ads on hers. How are you guys playing the games with those annoying ads in the way??? That was a rhetorical question. ;)

I’m new to Angry Birds and just bought Rio today…and want to install the free levels on my Android (Evo 3D). The instructions say go to level 3-2. Just to clarify, do I have to play all the prior levels to unlock enough to allow me to go to that level? It seems to be the case, but checking in case I’m missing something. I’ve played a bit of the first Angry Birds, but today is my first time using Angry Birds Rio.

The Android game is NOT “Angry Birds ___ Free”, despite it costing $0. Android has the full app, ad-supported. You will have to follow the directions on this page (namely, 6-13).

We won’t allow actual codes to be given out here. If you’re on an iOS or Android device and have the latest update just follow the first set of directions above. If you’re on a PC you need the code from the DVD. Same will go for Mac, but it needs an update before it’ll work. So far as we know those are the only devices currently supported.
Haha, on Angry Birds Rio Free you also get all the 15 Bonus levels. I thought there will be only 3. So I have to play all the 15 levels again.
And besides, I got the achievement for the new Carnival levels (on AB Rio Free) without any problems.
I am so glad I waited to find out more information before I bought the video.
