An update to Angry Birds Rio that contains the final chapter of Airfield Chase is now available for iOS and Android via the Amazon AppStore and Android Marketplace. We presume other devices coming online soon. The leaderboard is up and running and if you’re stuck our 3 star and apple walkthrough videos are ready. We will keep this post up-to-date as the update becomes available on more platforms and this site is updated.
Note, Android users, there is a new update (1.3.2.2) available in the Android Marketplace and Amazon AppStore that users have reported fixes the loading issue. Thanks to Ben for the heads up.
This update includes:
- 15 new levels in Chapter 10 of Airfield Chase
- Eight new hidden apples to find throughout Chapter 10. AMSlimfordy has a list of all the locations below.
- A new quasi-boss fight (shown in screenshot below). I say quasi because you’re not trying to defeat a character from the movie, but rather the plane is flying away from you with crates flying out the back. It’s similar to a normal level, but with more action.
- Four new achievements in Game Center (iOS only). We have confirmed that they all work.
- Pro tip! Try to hit the luggage. It’s worth 5,000 points!

Best tip is a high-arcing first shot. Drop the egg between the first and second structure.
I beat the level but 124000 is still only 1 star. No idea how to get higher.
I have 136530 points and have 3 stars. I will let you know how I did it.
Help…i formatted my windows 7 ultimate. I backed up the rovio file in documents. But now i copied but doesnt work. Can u tell me what happend?
Did you backup both the settings.lua and the highscores.lua in the “documents” folder? You’ll need to overwrite the same files with the backed up ones then completely restart. If that doesn’t work something might have gone wrong with you backed up your files.
ya. I copy pasted that folder before format. Then, now after installing again, i replaced that again but doesnt work. I am dead!
there are some programs that can recover files after a format. Just google it you may find some. It is two .lua files, highscores.lua and settings.lua at %appdata%\Rovio\Angry Birds (Rio), though I believe you won’t find the path or the names when trying to recover after a format. Also, I suggest you hurry and do it because the filesystem stores deleted files until you make a new file which overwrites it on the hard drive.

Don’t replace the entire folder, JUST THE TWO .lua files. You may have to reinstall and try again.

Kathy – it really is at Amazon. Once in the App Store, use the “My Apps” control, then tap on “Updates Available” at the top of your screen. It should appear at this point, and allow you to download the update.
It worked that way for me, without a hitch.

Something bad happened:(I installed the update now when I open it I get a blank screen.not having a good day, I fell down stairs when I woke up spent half morning at hospital now my angry birds not working . waaah

I updated Rio (Amazon App Store) and now when I try to open it, it immediately closes. I’ve tried restarting (rooted Nook), trying over and over to open it… no luck x:o( I haven’t been able to play Seasons since the “ad removal” update either, it also closes.
You should definitely contact Rovio about these. I’m not familiar with the NOOK semantics, but hopefully Rovio has some words of wisdom.

I am having the same problem… tried uninstal, reinstal, reboot, etc… I tap on the app, the screen goes black for a second, then returns to the menu screen… no Rio.
I’m having the same problem. When I try to open it the screen goes black for a sec & then it takes me back to the phones home screen. Glad to know I’m not the only one having the problem. What’s going on? I’ve sent amazon an email reporting the problem & am waiting for a reply.
I got a reply from Amazon and they said they are trying to find a solution to the issue and gave me a $5 credit…. still not working though x:o( Maybe they’ll let me know when they fix it.
They said the issue comes from having to save the data with an SD card.
I was able to successfully install the update after installing the latest Android software. My battery is not removable so I wasn’t able to try that option.
I am not going to be able to play the new chapter in ABR until the iPhone 5 comes out, because my iPods’ password reset itself to a word password that I don’t know.
Help I only need 1 more star for boss flight. What should I do?
The blue bird is the key use it right you can get the guy and both cages on top. Thats how i did it at least..

Wow. Is it bad im ready for another update already? 3 stars and all apples found.. Back to collecting feathers. Anyone else think we should get a “golden feather level” for getting all the feathers in one world?

Whenever I try to update ABR it says a secure connection could not be established. Wi-fi is on. HOW DO I UPDATE!!!
Try restarting your device and giving it another go.

All done already, all stars and all apples. Only needed to look up the apple on the plane wing, I would never have spotted it!! Back to Seasons Greedings 1-16 to try the feather again..

i now that in level 10-15 when i see the airplane is going out of rio and then blu free him self and free all the other birds then open the airplane door and blu……. fly
For everyone having trouble with the rio update, I had the same problem shut my phone down.removed battery for 30 secs.then all was fine same with my boyfriends downloaded and messed up seasons also.did same shut down.and all came back ok hope this helps

The boss fight was definitely a nice change but not as challenging as some of the other boss fights.
so i think that PC users can now expect Rovio to update the version!!!

You guys are amazing – I take one day off (I literally threw my iPad Sunday when I got yet another 99% on 1-16 and decided I was getting too wrapped up in a game) and I come back to find not only another level, but all the support up as well. True, but this is the way that Rio works. Amazon receives the update about 1 week before Android Market. Has been this way since March.
I think the criteria for the Stellarvore achievement may have changed within these latest updates. I had 3-starred every level up to chapter 9 (including the Golden Beach Ball levels) just prior to the release of chapter 10 and expected the achievement to unlock upon 3-starring those levels. However, upon doing so, it didn’t. This is on Rio HD (running on an iPad 2 BTW).
Anyone else found this to be the case? Or am I just the unlucky victim of a glitch?
Seems to be the case. I sent an email to Rovio asking of it’s a bug, or if the earlier successes were unintentional.
I can not get the Rio update from Amazon App Store on my phone. I have a Droid 2. Anyone have any thoughts
Cannot find the update to download? Probably best to restart your device and check Amazon again.
I tried that several times and I still can not get the update.
I’m not too familiar with Amazon, so I would definitely contact their support (I think they may even have a live chat option). The only other thing I have heard is uninstalling / reinstalling the Amazon app itself (not Angry Birds). Again, I would contact Amazon before doing so.

I ‘downloaded’ the Rio upgrade but I have nothing but locked boxes on my 3g Iphone. Upgraded on the PC then synched the phone but still no Rio upgrade. Any ideas?

Try restarting your device and opening up the AppStore. If you don’t have any updates, you should be good to go.
Thank you for the idea, but it didn’t work. There were no upgrades when I restarted and no new unlocked options. I welcome any other ideas.
A few weeks ago I lost all my awards and wonder if that is related?
What is the last screen of levels that you see?
If I understand correctly, I have finished Airfield Chase, 9-15 with a score of 1475960 (an amateur!).
What does Page 10 say? Does it have the big “Coming Soon” banner, or are all levels padlocked?
If you just see padlocks, re-defeat the last level of Airfield 9 (level 9-15) and click the >> icon after it tallies your score. Should be golden. If you see the “Coming Soon” banner, return to the main splash page of Rio and click on the ” i ” and check v1.x.x.
I never realized that there was such a thing as the Amazon App store or Ad-Free versions of all three Angry Birds games for only $0.99 available on it. I play AB for hours and hate the ads. I will gladly buy the Ad-Free versions from Amazon, but I’m terrified that it will overwrite all my progress in the free versions. Has anyone made this transition without sacrificing all their stars? (I’m 100% with stars, golden eggs, golden pineapples, golden whatevers in all three games and have no interest in starting over.)
The purchase should NOT erase your data, but rather “import” your data seamlessly.

I have replaced all 3 angry bird versions with the ad- free versions from amazon, it will ask you if you want to replace your existing game.just hit yes you will not lose your progress. With the seasons update, I needed a wi-fi connection because it uses a lot of space.need to enable wi- fi in your settings.I have android.hope this helps.
WHEE!!!! Looks like the final chapter is going to take place inside that V-TOL we fought, but I’m guessing that there will be two bosses instead of one, possibly Mauro and Nigel we must fight again.

Am I the only one getting sick trying to play 10-15 like happened with Carnival Upheaval? Those moving backgrounds really bother me, I can’t even try it once without feeling car sick!
