As many of the die-hard flingers know, the original Angry Birds app received a very unique update two days ago. The episode, titled Red’s Mighty Feathers, was met with a slew of skepticism to say the very least. Some players really loved the twist; some thought it was alright but a bit too different from the existing app; and some decided to use words that we won’t repeat.
Two days later, Rovio released a blog post with 5 tips on how to master this new gameplay (and we are working our own as well). But with that said, what’s more interesting is what appears after the fifth tip on the aforementioned post.
Also make sure to stay tuned for even more bird-flinging action! Due to massive demand, we are also making more of the familiar, classic levels for the Red’s Mighty Feathers episode.
That’s right! Whether you loved it or hated it or settled somewhere in between, Rovio has decided to return to the basics. Classic gameplay levels will be coming soon to an ABo app near you! And based on the image above, it certainly looks like any other level of the Angry Birds games we all know and love.
A few questions still linger:
- Red’s ability: Will Red still have his special, head-hunting ability in these levels of Red’s Mighty Feathers? Based on the image, it appears so — I can see the feathers revolving around him in mid-air. This makes total sense, as that’s the whole point of the episode.
- Retroactive ability — Just say No: Will Red’s special power be retroactive to earlier episodes of ABo? Since it wasn’t done in the v3.2.0 update, we don’t expect it to happen in the next update either. Rovio, if you happen to read this please keep Red’s new found ability specific to this episode and / or future episodes. Thanks! (I’m still of the belief that the new gameplay is a teaser and/or test for a brand new game)
- Unlocking requirement: What will be required to play the “classic-style” levels? In full versions of ABo, any player can play the first level of any episode without restriction. After that, levels within an episode must be unlocked chronologically. In Red’s Mighty Feathers, will users be required to pass all 15 “Egg Defender” levels before playing the classics? Or will the first “classic” level be unlocked by default? Or will the “classic” levels appear on Page 1, while “Egg Defender” gets bumped to Page 2? Or does Rovio have something else in mind?
Questions? Speculation about these items? Let us know!
Please don’t post your opinions about the v3.2.0 update on this page. Take our poll and you may post your opinions in the comments section there.
I love the classic Style, i cant wait for the update
I suspect that when Rovio announced the classic levels in response to the backlash they received, they had not yet, and perhaps still not, considered how the unlocking will work. I think they just had to rush out an announcement to quell the fury ;)
Considering how quickly they mocked up a level, this could have been their plan from the get-go. Who knows?
Since this announcement is so fast, I’m wondering if they had a back up plan to release some classic levels which they had prepared in case the new format wasn’t popular.
No matter what, I’m glad they listened and gave us a classic update as well. I am really hoping the first level will be unlocked so we don’t have to finish the other format first.
I suppose some day, I may finish that level, but after hours of playing it, I’m really not excited to try it again.
I doubt it was an answer to negative feedback on the latest update, it would be to quick. It is more possible that classic levels were already developed, postponed for later launch.
Although I like new update gameplay style, I couldn’t get 3 stars on most levels and that is so frustrating, I am one of players who give up of game if couldn’t perfect it. I hope that unlocking classic levels wouldn’t require completing “egg defender” levels.
And when it’s about Rovio’s tips on perfecting new gameplay it doesn’t worth much, it is still hard to perfect it.
I say.. go for both styles for a few ABO updates. People will play them, or they won’t.. but some of us diehard fans.. well.
Keep’em coming Rovio…
I think Red Birds new ability will stay episode specific as it stays true to the episode’s name. There might be a requirement to play out all the 15 levels of the update but seeing that some players are having difficulties unlocking them Rovio might just unlock all the levels.
Another thing to think on is, that will the tap-to-direct the bird feature stays on for the Red Bird or will it be just flinging the Red Bird with more stronger effects of destruction.
Good question @iamMighty. Hadn’t thought about if you would be able to pick the pig you target.
@amslimfordy If they choose the tap-to-direct straight to the pig feature a lot of debris points will not be offered as only the pig in-sight remains the target. So, according to me they have to implement the classic but strong Red Bird style flinging.
I hope they gonna remove the ‘Pig Target’ from the red bird, and that we can destroy what we want :) , not only the closest pig
Or at least you should have the possibility to tap the screen where you want the Red Bird to fly and not tap the screen anywhere and only aim at the closest pig.
Great to see they are listening to what I can only describe as the majority of feedback (be it here or on FB or on the survey they issued in game).
I will wait to see what they come up with before making my judgement :)
The cutscene has shown Red had beat Foreman pig and King building something… they might be continuous.
I give Rovio credit for trying something new, but sadly, it just didn’t seem that well thought out.
At least their marketing team was ON it and is working to mitigate the damage quickly. Another reason why Peter is so amazing. He’s my marketing hero..
Well that’s more like it. I have to admit that while these new levels were great, the gameplay could’ve been better. I wonder if there will be any Golden Eggs to find in the new update. Do u think it’s possible @amslimfordy ??
None in Surf & Turf or Bad Piggies, so I lean toward no.
I miss the golden eggs. It was fun to find them and fun to play them, especially the Rube Goldberg style. They were just a really neat reward for us!
Me too. I love searching for the Golden Eggs and that was part of what made Rio fun (golden fruits).
I hope Red’s ability is not retroactive! I say NOOO to that! NO to retroactive of Red’s power please!
Yeah, this power would actually make use in previous levels HORRIBLE.
I am trying REAL hard to like this update :( mind you, I didn’t really like the Bad Piggies game either. Can’t wait for the new update :)
I hope that the other levels are a side story that you can choose to play, and these classics will be mostly in place ofthem.
I hope reds power is retroactive because on the pc we have no mighty eagle or powerups to improve the highscores or to fill feather meters.
@redbird1604 – But the scores with power ups are not allowed on the leaderboards so what’s the use? I hope that Red’s power won’t appear in the older episodes, ’cause that would really mess everything up.
I’m looking forward to get the update for PC! :D
As @Lisko said, scores obtained with power ups are not permitted on our leaderboards. Also, the Mighty Eagle yields no points at all.
@AMslimfordy – Yep, that’s exactly what I meant :D
And to be precise, what would be to use of power ups when you can’t compete with scores earned by using PU’s? What do you do with a higher score when you don’t have a place where to insert it? And there’s no leaderboard for ME so to be honest, I dont even miss that. And really, if Red’s special power would appear in those old episodes, admins should make a new version of ALL the walkthroughs and I don’t think anyone wants to ’cause that kind of bother to our dear admins :) It’s totally different if they will let Red keep his power in upcoming episodes, but I just hope that they’ll leave the old ones as they are now :)
Thanks for the sentiment! :) We don’t want to do another 400-ish vids either.
I hope they add the feature to distinguish between normal scores and power-up scores. Ideally they show both high scores on each level (e.g. you see your normal high score and below the power up highscore).
So Rovio has read our complaining about the update and I’m glad they will make the classic levels soon. But I curious about many things: When is this update gonna land ? Where are the classic levels gonna show up ? Is this update inluce 3-star golden egg (I hope not, because we also have to 3-star the Egg Defender mode), and I hope the Red’s ability only episode specific like the episode’s name.
Yes!!!! I love the classic gameplay.
I hope, Red Bird’s power will like Lazer Bird or something NEW.
Looks like Red Bird’s power will not be Retroactive – only in this episode & future updates.
May be, they will divide ‘Red’s Mighty Feathers’ episode into two different parts.
Players can choose which mode to play –
(1)Egg Defender Levels (2) Classic-Style Levels
New levels and games are good if one likes to fling the birds. A different RB powers (aim it where you wanted instead of only to a pig) would be great but I also liked what they did with the Red Bird update this past week. It just provided another opportunity for Rovio’s creativity and exemplified the many different “avenues” that game play can travel.
The excitement of anticipation is what sparks our interest and it will be fun to see what they produce, in the theme, the birds’ abilities, background and game-play with the new levels in ABO. Part of me would like to see some of RB’s “point and shoot” attribute incorporated into the new game but leave the final landing spot to the player.
I’m just noticing there’s no ME button. I think this is because ME is impossible to use in Egg Defender levels.
Correct, ME can’t be used in Egg Defender stages (at least not yet), nor do we get daily free power ups anymore.
And we can continue our competition! This part of it completes the fun for me.
I hope the requirement for these classic new levels is nothing too major. If I have to 3-star these previous levels, I’m just gonna lose it.
I meant to say “the requirement to unlock” in the first sentence.
Well you never have to 3-star a level to move onward. Just pass.
What they got right in the release:
Continuation of the birds/pigs storyline
Innovative twist of the egg-capturing perspective
Applying the Bad Piggies contraptions into the storyline
New bird power that requires different logic to use effectively
What they got wrong with the release:
Releasing it as part of ABO, a completely different type of game
Lots more good points than bad, but the bad one was the killer. It definitely has a place in the AB Universe. IMO, it should be a new separate game or be integrated into Bad Piggies. This announcement of “knock stuff down, get lots of points” is a great move and I’m looking forward to playing them.
One additional thing they got wrong – No replayability, once three stars is achieved on a level, what is the point? This is the same reason Bad Piggies and Amazing Alex quickly dropped to the bottom of my priority list.
I noticed that I’m not getting my daily powerup anymore. Am I just returning at the wrong time, or is that part of the update?
Also, another question we may have: will there be powerup distinctions like in Seasons or Star Wars?
I’m also notice there is no daily reward, since latest update.
I notice the same thing. After the last update I’m not getting my daily power-up neither.
I’m also not having my daily reward either in my new Android tablet! I guess the daily reward will come back in the next update.
They are back in 3.3.0
And big, big THANK YOU to Rovio! Another giant THANKS to all the admins here: for keeping on top of the new and exciting things in AB world :-). I
I am very glad to see that there will be another update for AB. I am looking forward to playing the new levels.
How can i change my platform device? Today, i bought a Android Tablet.
@pokemonguy93 you can change your platform by going to the yellow bar at the top. click on your name on the right side and choose “edit profile”. You will be brought to the page where you can edit all the information regarding your profile. To change the platform click the button “Gamer info”. Hope this helps and enjoy the new tablet :D
Thanks @e-star!
You are welcome @pokemonguy93 :D enjoy the bigger screen :D
I really hope you don’t have to complete all 15 egg-defender levels before starting the traditional-style levels. I gave up on RMF level 4 — too hard, too repetitive, not fun.
I echo this. I cannot get past level five, i do not have the skills for games with speedy reaction requirements and cannot even get the one star even with walkthroughs. I picture myself wandering around town looking for someone to play the levels for me :-) Hope Rovio just replaces them with classic levels and makes a new game called Reds Mighty Feathers.
That sounds about good News!! The original style i great.
@AMslimfordy do you know why players don’t get daily power-ups for free? Is it just me or Rovio decided that after one year of daily free power-ups they will not give them anymore. Sorry if this was answered somewhere else, but I couldn’t find answer in post nor it was explained in application news description.
I have them completely disabled so I couldn’t tell you. Others have reported it. You should contact Rovio I think.
I’ve never used them, but enable daily for the “reward” to accumulate them on the off chance that one day unused PU might have the ability to be converted to something else. I too notocied that they stopped on my Android phone, but were still on my iPad. I’m slow on the uptake so didn’t put 2+2 together. After seeing exactly what this update was, I didn’t bother to update my iPad. Now I know why there are no more on the phone yet they continue on my iPad.
BTW, I experienced this with ABR a long, long time ago, on the same device. I estimate they were “awarded” for only a few days. Since I’ve never used them in any AB version I never contacted Rovio since its just not important to me.
@justpast40 thank you for answer. I don’t use power-ups but I am a kind of person who just like collecting “freebies”.
@cosmo2503, you’re most certainly welcome. I guess in a way that’s why I collect them ;-)
I admit the only ones I collect are the ones of Space and i hope to get the Mighty Eagle and the bundle of 5 Mighty…
”They have indeed been removed from the Classic game. We’ll inform you if this changes!”
Since I input angrybirdsnest, I think that the power-ups is not necessary.
daily reward wishes it is abolished.
‘We’re working on 15 new levels to Red’s Mighty Feathers with the original gameplay! ‘
“You CAN teach an old bird new tricks, but original levels for Angry Birds are coming too! #RedBird” – twitter
It means, Red Bird will have special power too, in classic levels.
You cant see that in this tweet, they are refering to the existing levels.. But in the picture you can see that red bird have his power
@josm Sorry, I thought they’re referring to next update :/
In the above image, We can see feathers around Red Bird, and but there is also a Green Arrow pointing towards the bottom-left pig Zoom In the image to see it.
I think, Green Arrow means that Red Bird will go to the nearest pig, when we tap the screen, in the classic levels.
LOL, i didnt notice the green arrow, so the pig target feature will stay :(
IMO the targeting feature of RMF is the worst feature of the new levels. Playing this way on the classic levels better be a distinct option, or they will end up killing the goose that laid the golden egg.
Hey, you are right. Good eyes!
I didn’t notice the arrow until you mentioned it. That takes away some of the skill level. I was hoping we would be able to target anything we wanted.
Green arrow!? Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. No. No…. NO.
This whole RMF business is totally souring me on the game. I am trying to keep in wait-and-see mode, but I can’t help feeling disheartened when I see an arrow telling me where the bird will land. That is not Angry Birds.
PLANNING AHEAD:
I reckon the level can be one-birdied if Red manages to strike top right pig, bringing TNT down-cutting rope while TNT blasting top left pig-dropping second TNT-landing on the track below-cart 1 leftward into small pig, cart 2 rightward taking out small pig 2.Seems a great prospect but judging from the trajectory Red can’t go that high & far,let alone passing that bubble generator.Anyone reckons it’s indeed possible?
Still no modern pig design, I see.
Four years and we still don’t get the spicy new designs the AB Chrome gave us.
