The latest update to the original Angry Birds (v1.6.0) is now available for iOS and Android devices, with more platforms coming online soon. This update includes a brand new world named Mine And Dine (links to trailer).
ANNOUNCEMENT:Angry Birds v1.6.1 is now in the Apple AppStore. This update fixes the loading issue mentioned below.
If you have issues opening Mine And Dine post-update here are some solutions to try:
- Reboot your iPhone / device and then load Angry Birds again. It may take awhile (2 -3 minutes), but it should load.
- Try turning ON airplane mode and then load Angry Birds (it still may take awhile to load). After it has loaded you can turn airplane mode off. Thanks to those commentors who recommended this solutions.
- Go into Game Center and log off. Then when Angry Birds loads click cancel when it asks whether to log in to gamecenter (thanks to the tip C.q).
- Per Rovio, “If you have problems with Mine and Dine update not starting, just wait, can take several minutes.”
- Another suggestion for users with older devices (pre iPhone 4 and including 4th Gen iPod Touch due to less RAM). Go into your Settings, tap General and set your Auto-Lock to “Never”. This will stop your “screensaver” from interrupting the loading process of game. Again, this could still take a few minutes. Remember to change your AutoLock back to your preferred setting after the game loads up. Thanks to SteveJack for bringing this to our attention.
From what we know this update includes:
- 15 new levels that take the birds deep underground
- Some 3 star scores and levels were adjusted a bit, so you may no longer have 3 stars on all levels. For example, we know the minimum 3 star score for level 3-5 has changed and the level has been slightly tweaked. This is likely in preparation for Angry Birds Sync (trying to get all devices in unison)
- There is at least one new Golden Egg. Checkout our Complete Golden Eggs Guide for the location and walkthrough.
- Additional achievements
- Bing integration has been removed.
- For those on iOS devices there is a new Mighty Eagle feather counter below each episode selection button.

Is the update on the stand alone version, or Intel Appup? I don’t see it on intel appup, which is where I have the original AB, and my version of Rio still doesn’t have an update for Carnival Upheaval. Is there something I need to do? Thanks for any help!

Unfortunately, can’t help you with the crashing. I haven’t had any issues with either iPad2 or iPhone3Gs
Go through the process of buying the Mighty Eagle again and if you get charged, contact Apple. They will have on record that you’ve already purchased it.

It was harder getting this to load than most of the levels! I finally cracked it by putting it into airplane mode then rebooting! If it was anything other than AB we would all have deleted it!!
A tip for everyone Dont answer a text while playing it causes the same loading probllems again!!!!!
After all the hassle getting it to work I ggot an iphone 4 this morning restored from backup now it wont load again!!
I’ve tried all the tips listed and still just a black screen for around 30 seconds.

Like yourself I have tried all the above suggestions and even deleted Angry Birds & then re-installed. It did open after that but I’d lost all my stars, so I re-synced it with my Apple account & now back to square 1…grrrrrrr! So irritated now! Come on Rovio sort it out!!!!!!!
Have you tried to restore a backup? If you synced after removing AB then you might have an issue.
I synced my ipod before removing Angry Birds, so hopefully I still have all my stars! Do you think it’s still worth me doing a “restore a backup” ?
Absolutely! Follow the instructions in the link above. I would try the written instructions first. If that doesn’t work, watch the video.
I can’t get it to open on my old fashioned iPod. It won’t even get to the load page and keeps kicking me back to my icon screen :(
First, restart your device. Then open Angry Birds and simply wait. Note: This may take several minutes.

If the loading screen cancels itself and send you back to the homescreen, then you can try again. You can also try BigH’s method. Otherwise, Rovio said they have submitted an update to fix this issue, so you can wait on that.
Any idea on timing of update for this “old-fashioned iPod” issue? Is it hung up at Apple? Your comment was from June 17 and it has been a month. In other conversations, I think you implied that Rovio had announced this update well before June 17. I know you are simply reporting what you know, but do you have any insight as to what may be the timing of the update’s release to us?

Rovio indeed submitted an update (v1.6.1) but it was not effective on most devices. Rovio still says they are working on fixing the loading bug.

I had “done everything” before i worked something out:
1. Turn your phone into airplane mode.
2. Turn the setting that automatically locks your screen to “never”
3. restart iphone.
4. Make sure setting are still the same.
5. Open Angry Birds.
6. Leave iphone alone but so you can still see it. dont touch the screen though. up to 10 minutes can elapse before it loads first time, but from here on out its been fine for me.
However, Angry Birds Free wont open, hangs on the loading screen. No idea why the two games would be connected either!
Even if it goes back to my icon screen? Not working
I would say at this point you’re best off waiting for the update to roll out.
Krissy, the v1.6.1 update is out now. Go get it and see if it fixes your issues. Let us know.

iPhone 3GS – update runs if you don’t let the screensaver kick in. Either reset like previous posts say or keep touching screen to keep “live”. Angry Birds loads after a couple of minutes.

Good info, that sounds a very plausible explaination since most of the people that are having trouble have older devices in which the load would take even longer. On my iphone 4 it only took a couple minutes but older devices with a lesser processor and/or ram, it could take significantly longer which might enact the screen lock messing up the load process. Thanks for that. I’ll add it or talk to birdleader.
@birdleader, add that the user might want to go into their settings and temporarily set the screen lock to never.

i tried all of that and it still dose not load. and i honestly do not want to take it off my ipod and start all over again. it took me forever to to beat poached eggs,the big set up,and the mighty hoax. i hope they drop another update soon.
I read the angry birds description on the app store and it says that it will take a while when you open it the first time
The update (v1.6.1) that is supposed to fix this issue has just landed in the App Store.
There are very few things that tear me away from Angry Birds…but a CD from my Uncle with music I grew up with (country — Patsy Cline, etc.) has done it for the last couple hours. Now, back to the game. You guys rock!

New update is still doing the same for me – absolutely nothing! I’ve tried all the suggestions in tuis thread but I keep getting returned to my home screen. I’ve waited over ten minutes and nothing has happened so I don’t think I’m being impatient.
I have downloaded the latest update that was suppose to fix the problem. It didn’t!!! I goes to a blank screen and goes back to the icon screen. Unfortunately, I can’t reboot the ipod because the sleep/wake button is broken/pushed in. Any suggestions?
on top of everything else, Angry Birds Seasons won’t open either…..what happened? Two of my programs won’t work now that they updated regular angry birds.
Your best bet would be to restart your device, switch to airplane mode, and retry the app again. And an AB update would not effect the Seasons app
Here is what works! I switched to “never” on the screen saver….that didn’t matter. It is tied to airplane mode. When I turn on airplane mode, both AB and AB seasons will work. BUT! I had to restart my device. Remember, my sleep button is pushed in, and I can’t restart my device. I had to use a sharp object (to push the button) in order to restart. Restarting after I changed my settings was the key.
BTW, I have to keep the airplane mode “on” or it won’t work!!!! everytime!!!!

If you did not notice yet, a level had been changed. 3-5 used to have have a stone roof. Now, the roof is made out of glass. They also fixed the problem with the pig on top. Now, it is not moving around. I also think they made the score for the 3 stars even higher. I used to have 3 stars, but now I only have 2.

The 3 star score is now 108,000 for level 3-5, drop 2 birds through the roof to do it. Check out the forum for a list of the other level changes.

thanks to the new update (the mine one), my scores are reset, i have to pay for eagle again and this is running slower than slow.
quick fix needed so i don’t pull anymore hair out!
First, if you “re-buy” the Mighty Eagle, you won’t be charged if you’re using the same iTunes account. Apple will have on record that you already bought it.
Next, if you have recently synced/backed up on iTunes, you can restore a previous backup. You will lose a little progress (everything since that backup) but beats starting from 0. read the post on restoring

I think we can expect all updates within a few weeks or a month. Seasons update (Summer Pignic) should be very very soon.

I would imagine that the Mine and Dine update was submitted everywhere simultaneously, so I’m not sure what the hold up is.

I can’t even get the update to download. Tried numerous times, but it just says “waiting” forever. Any ideas?
Have you tried restarting your device and trying the update again? Or download the update within iTunes and then sync your device.
Thanks for the quick reply. I did try both of those things. I have tried restarting and also rebooting several times, no luck. I cannot download the update in iTunes because it says “downloaded” under the icon. (Which is new, because I know you used to be able to “redownload” things that you already had downloaded previously).
BTW, it is an iPod Touch, a couple of years old. I have downloaded other updates, within the last half hour. Just this one troubling me.
What happens if you go to iTunes > Apps > Check for Updates (bottom right corner) ? Does AB not show as available?

HOWEVER, cannot start Angry Birds now. I have rebooted, logged off gamecenter, turned Airplane Mode “On,” and still, after about 15 seconds black, I get kicked to the icon screen.

Are we still waiting for another patch? I have not been able to open Angry Birds for over a week, and never got to play the new updated game. I tried all suggested steps, multiple times. Am I the only one with this problem?
