On Sunday, December 11th Angry Birds turns 2! To celebrate this glorious day — which also happens to be my birthday — Rovio will be releasing a “Happy Birdday” update to the original Angry Birds (notice how it says “Birdday”, not “Birthday”). Per Rovio’s blog, the birthday update will include 15 new birthday cake themed levels and a special birthday achievement. In addition, as a special present ALL episodes will be unlocked and available to play.
This update is out now (read more) and includes some notable changes!
It’s important to note:
- This update will land on iOS on Sunday, with other platforms coming online thereafter. We don’t know how long it will take for Android, PC, Mac, etc. to receive the Happy Birthday update.
- Our post on December 6th titled, “Angry Birds Episode 7 Update Coming Soon” is obviously related to this update.
Rovio’s not stopping there, they have plenty of other real-world birthday events lined up, including:
- Fans in the US can celebrate by heading over to their local Barnes & Noble, which will have special events and giveaways from 11 AM to 3 PM. Angry Birds aficionados can join a scavenger hunt to find the Mighty Eagle or enter a raffle to win special Angry Birds prizes…
- Toys ‘R’ Us is also getting into the “birthday” spirit. Fans can get 25% off Angry Birds plush toys plus a code that unlocks an Angry Birds Google Chrome bonus level.
- For Angry Birds fans in Japan, Rovio CMO and Mighty Eagle Peter Vesterbacka will be giving a special presentation at the Apple store in Ginza…
- The Forbidden Planet stores in the UK will also be celebrating Angry Birds’ second birthday with merchandise previously unavailable in the UK.

Good work Rovio. I hope the Happy Birthday update wil come to Android two days or shorter after the iOS update. My father call Angry Birds “Birdy Birdy” (lol). :-D

Updates are usually 15 levels. This has been true for ABo and Rio for a long time.
will this only be the first 15 level of the usual 45 or has the whole 7th episode only 15 level?

I don’t think it belongs in Seasons because it’s not the birthday for the Seasons app.
They only have room for 15 levels on Happy Birdday. Their running out of space on the leaderboards.

Oh goodness, having both an Original and Seasons episode to work on at the same time. My head may just explode. Thank goodness for vacation days at the end of the year.

Rio was released on a weekend.
AppStores cannot approve an app on the weekend. But a developer can request a specific date/time of release.

I got my birthday presents early, mine was Dec. 2, and the Seasons and Chrome updates came out on the first!

Oooops, by the time I looked for a B&N event and then got to the bottom of the page, I had forgotten who’s birthday it was! Happy Birdday Bird Leader!
And we won’t even ask how many candles were on the cake this year! I’ve even found myself referring to my age as “being on the sunny side of fifty.”

For all purposes of date and time, Rovio operates at UTC (Universal Time). By universal time, it is currently 2:38am on Saturday, Dec. 10.
For example, each daily level in Wreck the Halls is released at 8am UTC.
in my country, calendar levels are unlocked at 4:00 pm
