@sweetp Following up on your question about rooting an Android phone, here’s why it’s the first thing I did with my HTC One X:

You can disable or delete *any* program… not just the ones that your carrier says are okay to remove. This declutters the phone, wins back some storage space and can even improve performance if unwanted background processes are nibbling at the available ram/ battery life/ data cap.

You can install a bunch of useful software that you otherwise couldn’t, such as a decent screen recorder, back-up software, a file explorer that can look across your whole device, ad-blocking software – so you don’t waste a large part of your screen and a chunk of your data cap on adds! – and an improved version of VPN/ TOR to improve your security over public Wi-Fi.

Regarding a back-up app, perhaps you’ve already read about my great experience with Titanium Backup Pro. I mainly use it to save and instantly switch between all of the old versions of AB Space. Want to replay a level that *used* to have a glitch? No problem! I also use it to make back-ups of other apps on my phone. This way, if an update is less good than the old version, I can always do a roll-back.

You can even install an entirely different ROM and upgrade to the latest Android version yourself (improved security overall) or change the look & feel of the Android interface (e.g. CyanogenMod).

    Plenty of reasons!

    • Rooting sounds like it is a real advantage afterall. I do have issues with battery drain with those unwanted apps running in the background, and I’m constantly trying to turn them off!

I did install “File Expert” awhile back, since it allows me to see all of the files on the phone and on both of my SD cards. I did this when I wanted to transfer a bunch of files from my old HTC Evo and uploaded to my current phone, via the PC.

I’ll have to look into Titanium Backup Pro. I don’t have any of the old versions of the AB games, so even if I wanted to use the ones in Seasons with the Santa hat glitch, I couldn’t retrieve it.

It certainly was frustrating with the latest Android update, even after they fixed the bugs. The interface is not as user-friendly as the previous version and it’s a pain to get used to.

Well, you’ve convinced me to do it. Still a bit apprehensive, but I’ll get over it once I realize it’s for the greater good, and my sanity!

Thank you for calming my fears, and helping me through this!
