Recently, the Las Vegas Licensing Expo was held at the Mandalay Bay Casino on June 17-19. The Expo offers a chance for companies to show off their upcoming projects so potential licensors can see if they want to make a partnership to produce goods based on these brands. Everything from toys to movies to fashion to video games are on display.
Part of the Expo includes the LIMA (Licensing Industry Merchandisers’ Association) Licensing Excellence Awards, which honors the best licenses available. Rovio was nominated in the following four categories:
- Best Digital/New Media Program
- Best Licensed Promotion
- Best Digital/New Media Licensee
- Overall Best Licensed Program
and won the award for “Digital/New Media Program of the Year” for Angry Birds Star Wars.

Further, Sony Pictures was also in attendance at the show, showing their upcoming movies over the next few years. At their booth, they displayed the first teaser poster for the upcoming Angry Birds Movie. While the poster doesn’t reveal any new info, it’s exciting to see the first official images from the studio.
