Julien from Rovio has informed us that the Mighty Eagle has landed for Android! Thanks, Julien, for keeping AngryBirdsNest in the loop.
Now, before we get lost in a sea of confetti, Android’s Mighty Eagle is currently only available through the T-Mobile Mall — a service clearly only available for T-Mobile customers. In the Julien’s shared article, it states:
T-Mobile customers can send a free text – ‘BIRDS’ to 6255 – to receive a link with instructions on downloading the exclusive title via the T-Mobile Mall. Through Oct. 13, T-Mobile customers will be the first to be able to call on the Mighty Eagle to help defeat those pugnacious ‘lil piggies. …
Additionally, customers who download this version of Angry Birds will receive a 25% discount off the purchase of an additional game from the T-Mobile Mall.
If you read that closely it sounds like this is a separate app, not an In-App purchase. We can’t confirm or deny that just yet though, so if you’re a T-Mobile customer please give us some insight into how the process works. Maybe this is just a “demo”, with an In-App purchase coming down the road. I’m just speculating now…
Update: Downloading the app from the T-Mobile Mall is free (ad-supported) and overwrites your existing “Android Market” version while maintaining your progress. When you first try to use the Mighty Eagle, you are prompted to purchase him for $1 US (appears on cell phone bill). Then voila! Mighty Eagle ready for action!
Additionally, the ads have an “X” on them. If you click the “X”, you are prompted to remove ads permanently for $1 US (appears on phone bill again). It is unclear what would happen if an Amazon (ad-free) user were to download the T-Mo app, so we would like to hear from any who wish to try. (Special thanks to kathi17 for all of her fantastic info!)
As for when the Mighty Eagle will land rest of Android, hard to say, but the article’s mention of 13 Oct. seems to imply a staggered release across different Android marketplaces. Also, it is not clear when the Mighty Eagle will land for Seasons.

I have the T-Mobile version of ABo for Android with the Mighty Eagle. Rovio told me that if I updated it through the Markets, I would lose my score and Mighty Eagle. A few posts above, Mike told me I wouldn’t lose those.
Well, today, I updated using the free version from Android Market/Google Play, and he was right, I still have my paid version, and Surf and Turf and Birdday Party both have the Mighty Eagle, and my score is still there! Anyway, if anyone else has the T-Mobile version, just update to the free version, and you will still have your paid version plus the ME and all of your scores!

First, it can be used to skip a level which has not yet been passed. This function, however, can only be used once per hour. Second, it can be used to earn feathers for Total Destruction of each level. This is a fun, though sometimes frustrating, mini-game. For particularly troublesome levels, we have video walkthroughs available.

Hey its November and the Mighty Eagle isn’t at the android market!I checked it not there!Is it just for T-moble now because I am stuck on levels like on the regular angry birds 3-12 and on rio 3-8 or 3-9 I forget and seasons OMG IT IS A BIG AMMOUNT!So Mighty Eagle come to android market PLEASE!
It is an active project, but there is no estimated time of arrival.
I think someone should ask Julien on twitter about the current status of ME on Android… He may give a small hint at least.

It’s only speculation on our side, based on the language of the article. But hopefully that’s the case.
AMslimfordy: I think you may be right, at least, in that it reads that way to me as well. However, the unstated corollary to this news is more interesting. As I read it, and I could be wrong, (but I don’t think so), Julien’s message phrasing appears to be a tacit implication of Rovio being unable to make the Bad Piggy Bank functional across the many flavors of Android systems.
Not that I would be surprised if it turns out that I’m right, as the open source nature of Android, to say nothing of the multi-flavored nature of the underlying Linux made BPB both a Herculean and a Sisyphean task from the word “go.” I think that Rovio is up against a hard truth in the multi-platorm smartphone environment: the Apple way isn’t always the best way.
This could also have been Rovio’s only means of an “exclusivity” release as well. Julien was working solely on BPB and I don’t think he would sound so excited if the operation was closed.
Perhaps. However, I’m more certain than before that I’ll have ME playability through Verizon’s Android Market or the Amazon App Store long before I see a release of BPB.
Such a strategy would seem to make the concept of BPB a moot one, but then who knows? There always exists the possibility that Rovio has many other cool ideas in the pipeline that require it, but which they’re remaining mum about.
So when you send the sms to the specified number you get back a very nice message that says:
“Free T-Mobile Msg: Go to T-Mobile Mall store.t-mobile.com and click the Angry Birds link to get Angry Birds with the Mighty Eagle!”
First problem: The link generally doesn’t work! It seems that to get in the web version of the T-Mobile Mall (and not the App) you have to do it using a T-Mobile’s data plan. Otherwise (e.g. using wifi) the link won’t redirect you and you just get a 404. Anyway, here is the final link: http://tmomystore.hcac.com/srt/d/mystore (lame)
Second problem: No link with angry birds anywhere (at least for me)… The search won’t work unless you have the Web Guardian (T-Mobile’s censorship service) set to off (and I can’t turn it off, keep getting a verification error). On the other hand if you try to browse the site from another connection or from you desktop/laptop you still can’t search because you will get a 404 again… (jesus)
Third problem: The applications (e.g. doodle jump) cannot be installed on my phone. I have an unlocked HTC Desire and the T-Mobile Mall says that the apps are not supported by my device. (fml)
And that’s how far I got… Seems that I will have to wait till mid-October with everyone else thanks to the geniuses in T-Mobile that do not support anything else other than their own handsets.

I think it’s clear that they only support the TMO devices in their store. And Kathi’s Sensation 4G is also TMO’s… Conclusion: T-Mobile’s customers == TMO devices

I’m downloading it now, but it’s taking forever over 2G. For anyone else who only has 2G, don’t wait forever for the page to load, just click the angry birds exclusive link below the loading stuff.
It will work on any network’s tower, I’m downloading on an AT&T tower.
As a clarification, I’m a TMo customer, but we don’t have any reliable towers from any company where I live. I use TMo because they have wifi calling, and it’s the only way we can use cellphones here. In one spot in my house, I can pick up an AT&T tower sometimes. That’s how I connected today. The link won’t work over wifi.

I’m using a TMO stock Sensation. It’s finally up to 24% in about 20 minutes. I’m hoping it saves my progress, I’d hate to have to three star everything again, and I’m not sure if backups will restore to this version.
I got download incomplete, it cannot be resumed. :-(
I keep trying to redownload, but TMO Mall thinks I have it, and says download complete. If I try to install I get a parsing error. I h’m late for work. Will try again later.
Success!!! I went back to the TMO Mall. I reenabled wifi while on the page. I clicked the link for Angry Birds Exclusive. I redownloaded it, and this time it downloaded fast over wifi. I installed, and all of my progress it still there. All my eggs, and all my stars! I now have the Mighty Eagle on my Sensation 4G!

Home from work, it was a short day. I didn’t tell them I was late because I was trying to download the Mighty Eagle :-)
How it works is, the download you get from the TMO Mall is Angry Birds and it’s free. (Still with ads, I don’t know what happens if you have the Amazon paid app). When you try to use the Mighty Eagle for the first time, you get the message about buying it for the one time $1 thing. After buying it, which is pretty instant, you get a notice that your phone bill has been charged. The next time you hit the Mighty Eagle eye, all your birds disappear, and you get to fire the sardine can.
This will hopefully, hold me over until the next update!
Will this be in Canada too, or just the states?
No idea. Doesn’t specify US-only so I would guess an TMo device.

Something new, we can remove ads forever! There is now an x by the ads and if you click it, you can purchase AB for $1! Yes, I know you can do it on Amazon, but with Amazon, if you uninstall the Amazon app, you can’t play any of their games, or use any app you purchased from them.

Hi! I have the 3 Angry Birds versions from the Android Market. If I download the Angry Birds from the T-Mobile Mall, I will have 2 Angry Birds Original apps, one with the Mighty Eagle and the old one without it, or the Eagle will be added to the other app too?
According to kathi17, the T-Mo version overwrites the “Android Market” app — maintaining your progress of course. On your phone, only the Mighty Eagle / T-Mo version will appear. The T-Mo version app is ad-supported, but (for an additional $1) you can pay to remove the ads.
We have yet to hear from any Amazon Appstore users on this. I would hope that users who have the Amazon ad-free version could get the T-Mo version ad-free without any additional cost, but this has not yet been confirmed.
I purchased the ad-free version from Amazon and the T-Mobile Mighty Eagle. I haven’t seen an ad yet. I am on Level 4 but I had to go back to work.

Did you try to go to store.t-mobile.com first? It should then redirect you to the Mall. You need to do it with a data connection, because wifi will only give you an error.
You may have seen that about wifi not working, but I thought I’d mention it just in case.

no i know, i already have the tmobile mall as a widget/app, i can get on and everything, the problem is i cant find any kind of update in it. please keep me updated if theres any developments about it landing on the full android market
This morning I turned my phone on and the T-Mobile Mall automatically downloaded to my phone as an app. (Sensation 4G). If anyone can’t get in to the T-Mo Mall, it might be worth it to try and download the Mall from the app store.
You can use wifi for the mall. The app is called T-Mobile Mall. HTH!
I download the App sunday and is working fine , but i make a hard reset on mi HTC My Touch 4G and you know that you lost everything, So how can i get it back without paying anything again?
You can download the app again without getting charged (so long as you use all the same information), but your progress is likely gone forever. If you have any issues (like getting re-charged) contact the App Store and explain your situation. I’m sure they’ll quickly refund you.

They now confirm the speculations that one can download the Mighty Eagle version only on T-Mobile devices and they include some more complete installation instructions.
Probably it doesn’t really matter now that we are close to the 13th but maybe you want to update the first post to be more accurate! ;-)

And I have also seen disturbing comments in their Facebook page where they (Rovio) are calling users to ask from their carriers for bad piggy bank support. That tells me that they still need to establish agreements with carriers, at least in a satisfactory level of coverage, in order to make ME available to anyone.
I would appriciate however to get the T-Mobile edition since I’m a T-Mobile customer (but only on the air plan and not on a device). Since T-Mobile allows bad piggy bank transactions and the TMO Mall exclusiveness ended on Friday why not let me dear Rovio? :P :(
So I downloaded it and it was there and now it’s gone…I was able to play some levels and the Mighty Eagle option was there, I used it, and now it’s gone…..I paid my dollar….and it’s gone…..anybody know WTF is going on???

I’m a little upset personally. I bought the Amazon add free one and tried this. Didn’t have to pay twice for ads but now what about updating? Just can’t make it easy….
Don’t understand what your question is. You went from Amazon –> TMo ad-free at no cost? And what’s the complaint?
Maybe @thebeard is afraid that updating his Amazon version (which he paid) is no more possible since he downloaded the TMo version.
From my experience, I’m able to change versions between Android Market and Amazon AppStore back and forth (without losing data) while also keeping the ad-free feature. So, I don’t think there is a reason to be upset! Especially when you are some of the few lucky ones who have MightyEagle on their Androids! :-)

Just thought I’d add to this. I just did the text message thing to T-Mobile since I’m a T-Mobile customer and got the Might Eagle version with no problems. I installed it over my previous version which was the Amazon App Store Ad-Free version.
I haven’t seen any ads yet and I have the Mighty Eagle with all my saved progress from before!
It is the 15th of december and I looked on my droid threes market but I couldn’t find anything on me im really depresse I love the mighty eagle cause I’ve played it on google chrome and on an ipod touch so sad I want me so bad please update when any info comes about it

Do you or anybody at AB nest think that android will make the ME (in a matter of time) for AB Rio? I think so… it seems that it would be a sort of left-out game if they didn’t right?
I would guess yes. The thresholds and such are already set, so it wouldn’t be much additional effort. The major issue right now is the in-app payment system. It’s tough to coordinate with so many service providers.

When it comes out it will be just for the oringinal version. It was the same way for IOS. Released for the original.and then 6 months later, seasons. I doubt it will ever be on RIO.
