Same here. The game seems to freeze at least as often, if not more so, since the update.
hamvestor@james-simonI was leading my Diamond League arena with double the points of the next closest player, but after this morning’s update, with two days left in the weekly competition, I was suddenly switched to a totally different group, with much higher scores, so I have only a narrow lead over the second-place competitor. What’s up with that?
hamvestor@james-simonYet again, I was on the 7th level in the Arena, needed the “free bird” to win, and the game froze when I tried to click on “improve your score with a free bird”. The only solution is to shut down the device and reboot, leaving me back at the first level and losing the 750 feathers. Very frustrating, and it has happened way too many times (always on the 7th level) to make me think this is just a “bug”. This game gets to be less fun and more of a chore day-by-day.
hamvestor@james-simonI’m done with the Arena. It just isn’t worth it anymore. I was in second place until a few minutes ago, with 1035 points. (the first place player has 1962 points, having accumulated a huge — actually, impossible — total in the first day of the contest). Then, moments ago, a player with a name in Russian script, who was not even in my league, suddenly appears out of nowhere with 1644 points, dropping me to a distant third place. How does a player switch leagues with 7 hours left in the contest?
I’ll play the daily challenge in the future, but the Arena just isn’t worth the time and effort anymore when crap like this happens. Good luck to those of you who still remain…
hamvestor@james-simon@jim151, I’ve encountered the same issue in the past day or two. My opponent has no birds left, and after I play my last bird, suddenly his score increases by several million points. This game seems to get buggier with each passing day. And lately it’s been much harder to get past the first game in the Arena. If Rovio’s objective is to get players to spend gems to advance, there’s a lot less incentive to do so if you are losing at level 1 than at the 5th, 6th and 7th levels — which now seem to be easier than before.
hamvestor@james-simon@captsternn, thanks much for shedding light on the extent of the potential to exploit the bugs in AB2. I simply had no idea. I wondered, for example, how many of my Diamond League opponents had a full complement of pirate hats, as well as the newer set of 1000-pearl hats, when it would take me forever to accumulate that many pearls, even with my birds maxed out at the top level. I’m 23-2-1 in the Arena, and leading again this week, but given the huge amount of time it is taking to be competitive against opponents with those kinds of ill-gotten advantages, it just isn’t worth it anymore. I had been having my doubts about all the time it is taking to play the game, and you provided the impetus for me to make the move. I’m outta here.
Thanks again for putting it all out there…
hamvestor@james-simonHas anyone ever played “Raven Angerson” in Diamond League? His record is 46-1-1. He’s in my contest this week, and is getting impossibly high numbers of points in very short time frames. Something doesn’t pass the smell test here…
hamvestor@james-simonCan someone explain how the “beachwear” hats (x2) fit in with the crowns, etc.? If a bird has all of the x2 hats, does that mean that the score is multiplied by x6? Should I buy a x3 cowboy hat for one bird instead of adding beachwear hats to 5 birds? Is any of this explained anywhere? Thanks!
hamvestor@james-simonI just lost days’ worth of progress on my birds, with the birds suddenly dropping several levels each. I’m 16-1-1 in the Diamond league, and way ahead in first place in this week’s Arena, but after several incidents like this, it’s just not worth the stress and effort. I’m tired of Rovio’s lame excuses for not fixing these bugs. I’m uninstalling the game, and will spend my time doing more productive things. Best of luck to the rest of you. Over and out.
hamvestor@james-simon@sambeaver – I have AB2 on 2 separate tablets I use. I’m logged in to FB on both. But for some strange reason, on the secondary tablet, I shows my current score in the Arena, and updates that on a more-or-less real-time basis, but it’s about 2 weeks behind on showing where my bird levels are now on the primary tablet. Any guesses how to fix that?
hamvestor@james-simon@david-martin – my experience has been that if I force quit the game (i.e., shut down the device) to replenish the spells I used during the day, I lose the additional feathers I earned in the Arena during the day, including leveling up a bird to a higher level. Has that happened to you? Is there a way to preserve the progress made in adding to the feathers during the day when exiting AB2?
hamvestor@james-simon@cosmo2503 I am logged into my FB account on the tablet and the phone, but I’m on level 535 on the tablet and level 1 on the phone. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled FB and AB2 on the phone several times, but it doesn’t seem to matter. Any ideas welcome! Thanks.
hamvestor@james-simonFor the first time, for me the contest results updated instantly when the competition ended, and I got my second-place rewards instantly as well. Encouraged by that, I played my first game in the new Arena competition, but sadly the same problem continued – I was matched up against someone with much higher stars and bird point values, and predictably got clobbered despite executing very well. And I did not get a free play afterwards. So, I’m done with the Arena contests until and unless I get an indication that the match-ups will result in a level playing field.
hamvestor@james-simon@hank, I’d really appreciate you input. After having won 12 Arena weekly contests out of my first 13, and being well in the lead early in the 14th, suddenly something changed a few days ago, and for the last 36 matches or so, I have been matched up against opponents with significantly greater advantages (much higher ranked birds, star ratings, spells) in every match, making it virtually impossible to win. Clearly something in the algorithm changed, I suspect by design, but maybe as a result of a bug, that would cause me suddenly to lose 95% of my matches despite good execution. Since the number of matches was large enough that it was impossible to be a random result, I am mystified as to what would cause that. Could you possibly shed some light on the issue? Thanks much.
hamvestor@james-simonNow I’m really ticked. I’ve had four matches since my last post. My birds are all 6’s and 7’s (with one 8). In three of the matches the opponents’ birds were all 8’s, 9’s and 10’s, and in one match, 10’s and 11’s. I executed well, but, of course, won none of them. What’s going on, Rovio?
hamvestor@james-simonIn contrast to your experience, virtually every match I’ve had in the past 36 hours has been against an opponent with a much higher star rank, and birds at higher levels than mine, or in a few cases, at a slightly lower rank, but with all their spells, making the matches unwinnable for me even with perfect execution. I was in first place in my diamond league, but the person who just overtook me has accumulated such a large number of points in the last 36 hours that he/she would have to be spending some major money to accomplish that. Since I have never spent any money on the game to buy gems, etc., I’m guessing that there is an algorithm that is now designed to penalize someone like me who spends no money on the game, but is designed to benefit and encourage those who do spend money on the game. There is no possible way that it could be coincidence I could be given some 30 or more matches in a row in the last 2 days where I am significantly out-matched at the outset. This is neither fair nor fun. I guess Rovio needs to make money from this game, but after the Arena contest ends tomorrow, I’m done with it until and unless fairness returns to the game and/or Rovio becomes transparent about its agenda.
hamvestor@james-simonI am getting fed up with my spells that I have been awarded disappearing just as fast before I can use them. Please, Rovio, find a fix!
hamvestor@james-simon@ddeck, perhaps you or @hank have knowledge on this. Starting early yesterday, I have been consistently outmatched by opponents with much higher star ratings, birds at much higher levels, and lots of spells, making it all but impossible to win a match. Since others do not seem to be having the same issue, I have a theory — I am 12-0-1 in the Arena (diamond league), and this week was way ahead again in first place. I don’t buy or use spells, and just depend on skill to win. I’m guessing by the sudden change in match-ups that an algorithm kicked in to make it virtually impossible for me to win so others can catch up and make it more competitive. I play every 3 hours during the day, and there have been way too many such mis-matches since yesterday morning for this to be coincidence. Can you comment on my theory?
hamvestor@james-simonSomething changed in the Arena today, and not for the better. Virtually every match now has me pitted against someone with much higher star rating, birds that are at levels way above mine, and usually spells. I’m having trouble winning even the first match. This is nether fair nor fun, and if it keeps up, my plan is to find more enjoyable ways to spend my time going forward.
hamvestor@james-simonCan anyone tell me the difference in effect between the “crown” and the “street hat”? Do they differ in any way regarding their impact?
hamvestor@james-simon@djangosum, thanks very much for the explanation. I had no clue about the process, and so I have just bought party hats for my birds and claimed my daily feathers. Now I understand better why I have had so many opponents with star ranks lower than mine but with birds that were ranked higher. I’m bummed I didn’t figure this out sooner, but better late than never!
hamvestor@james-simon@kelshe, thanks for the reply, but I’m really confused now. I am star rank 49, but I have never been offered daily feathers in the manner you described. There is a nest with 3 eggs in the upper right hand corner of the screen with an exclamation point which I click on to enter the arena, but it does not offer me daily feathers. And while the upper left corner of the screen shows that I have 120 pearls, I’ve never been offered any invitation to use them to get hats. If I click on the pearls icon, I get a message which says I can use the pearls to buy hats, but it gives me no way to actually buy the hats. It seems like a may have a buggy version of AB 2?
hamvestor@james-simon@djangosum, I must be missing something, because I’ve never seen an invitation to buy hats with the pearls. I’m not even sure what you mean by claiming feathers in the daily arena. I’m 12-0-0 in the Arena, having won gold in all 12 of my Arena competitions, so I’ve won feathers, and I get feathers or gems when I claim treasures periodically during the day. Is that what you are referring to, or am I missing something? I’ve often wondered why other competitors seem to consistently have birds ranked higher than mine, and wondered if there was a way to get/buy feathers that I am not aware of. Sorry to sound like a novice, but I seem to be missing some opportunities here!
