Just watched the 2025 New Year firework display from Sydney, Australia. About as spectacular a display as I have ever seen. Then they showed the one from Auckland, New Zealand. It was like some kid waving a sparkler in comparison.

Twiggy and I completed our 2024 challenge of walking the length of the Appalachian Trail before year’s end. I did 2200 miles. She must have done well over 2500 miles. We had 2 days to spare.

She can have a day off.

Nothing in the UK where technically it only counts (as you can place bets) if the snow falls on the 25th. So we could have 6 foot drifts, blue sky, and it wouldn’t qualify. Or you could have a single flake and it would qualify.

I’m totally quizzed out already. And it’s only Tuesday. Do we get Wednesday off? We are not going traditional this year. SAUSAGES for Xmas dinner.  We shall be on Bangor pier with Twiggy, taking in some bracing sea air and getting ready for W&G. Everyone have a good time, sausages or not!

Since we are talking about best ofs, I think the best TV I have seen all year was possibly Mr Bates versus the Post Office. The worst? I think I had the misfortune of seeing a trailer for Mrs Brown’s Boys.

I do like Love Actually, actually love (see what I did there?). However I have just finished watching the decidedly un-Christmassy Squid Game. Nasty but very good. Series 2 on Dec 26. Looking forward to Wallace and Gromett mainly.

You could do a lot worse than Stop The Cavalry by Jona Lewie. At least it has a point. But I don’t really like any of them. In my opinion, the best ever Xmas number one was Mad World by Gary Jules (2003), which I would say is one of the best cover versions of all time. But not a Xmas song.
