To coincide with the announcement that Angry Birds is coming to Facebook, Penn-olson.com snagged an exclusive interview with Rovio’s Mighty Eagle, Peter Vesterbacka, and, Henri Holm, SVP of Rovio Asia. Interviews and articles like this are nothing new, but this one does include some interesting tidbits, including talk about Angry Birds Sync and a brand new version of Angry Birds that sounds very familiar. I highly recommend reading the full article by Joshua Kevin on Penn-olson.com.
“Angry Birds Local” Edition Coming Soon
Rovio also plans to release more games than it did last year including making a more localized game with local content. Rovio released a Year of the Dragon update to Angry Birds Seasons for the Chinese New Year where it has a new theme, animations, and of course, a swooping dragon as a ‘power-up.’ The team is planning to do something like this in Indonesia, and that’s another part of the reason for the visit here. The forthcoming game will include local content such as Batik, Garuda, or even Komodo so that it has a more local touch filled with Indonesian cultural references. This looks set to be a separate, new Angry Birds game, and not just an update to Seasons.
I think I’ve heard this idea before…oh yeah, check out our Angry Birds World Travel concept that we posted September of 2011. I’m not saying this is our idea exactly, and it’s entirely feasible that Rovio had already thought of this, but nonetheless it’s cool to see an idea we had coming to fruition. I really hope that every “local” version is available to all markets in one new app. Not only would it be more fun for everyone, but it would also help people learn about other cultures around the world.
Angry Birds Sync
In the near future, Rovio is also working to bring a seamless and connected experience through any platform you play Angry Birds on. For example, if you start playing Angry Birds on your iPad, you can continue your progress on your Samsung TV or on a PC in an internet cafe.
Sounds like Angry Birds Sync is close(r) to becoming a reality. That said, I personally believe there are still many hurdles to overcome. For example, for a sync system to truly work I would assume all levels would need to be the same across all platforms. They currently aren’t. Also, all platforms would need to be running the same version, or close to it. I mean, how would you sync your Year the Dragon progress if said update wasn’t currently available on your other devices? I don’t know, maybe there is a solution to this that I’m not seeing. Regardless, I am happy that it’s still in the works to me this is a must have.
can’t wait for angry birds local!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Same, and I hope they do many different areas, combined within one app, just like BLs suggestion! I’m guessing this new game would be to ‘replace’ ABR, which will hopefully receive its conclusion shortly :)
Agree, it’s time for an new AB app, even if we have to pay for it.
Some of us have been paying all along. A fairly nominal amount, I grant you, given all that I’ve gotten out of it, but paying for it, nonetheless. Hopefully, this new app, when it’s released, has all the richness we’ve come to expect.
Laurence, I suspect you’re correct in the new ABle (nice acronym) will be a replacement for Rio, but should Fox/Blue Star come out with a sequel, they can always split Rio as they’ve done with Seasons.
I would also see that new app called Angry Birds Local!
Hopefully they will travel to Holland :)
And maybe some countries like Vietnam. :)
Really looking forward to Angry Birds Sync, sounds like an awesome feature!
Yep, me too.
The best idea ever :-)
i agree totally jolly! :)
:-)
Good to hear that sync is still alive, I was starting to worry about that. Since I’m primarily an iPad player now, I miss not being able to take my iPhone out of my pocket and sling a few birds for a couple minutes.
I’d like to see Sync come to fruition, especially since I bought a new desktop PC with a 23″ touchscreen monitor, and it’s waiting in the box, for me to come home and set it up.
Sounds very interesting ….
So if Rovio does decided to allow people to get their angry birds everywhere on any device without having to restart it would this include itunes and android as I currently got a new android phone and have to start from scratch which is a real bummer !, please contact soon if anyone knows ! thanks :-()
The assumption is that this would work cross-platform, yes.
If that’s how it works out, that would be awesome!
Cant wait!
Do read the full article (link above). Best quote: “Angry Birds are one thing, but angry girlfriends are a different game altogether.”
i hope they do australia, like they can go in sydney harbour to the harbour bridge and uluru in northern territory that would be so cool :)
Angry Birds should make the new app! Can’t wait….
Wow, it really sounds like Rovio has listened to it’s fanbase and I am very impressed. An Angry Birds Local would be so much fun. I have immensely enjoyed Mooncake Festival & Year of the Dragon visually. They seem so much richer & vibrant. Keep up the great work, Rovio team! I will sit quietly & be patient. I realized with wait between Wreck the Halls & Year of the Dragon release I should have been reading a book (oh the horror!) instead of bitterly trying to beat my own top score on Mahjjong. :P
I love the idea of Angry Birds local, there are so many beautiful and interesting places and cultures all over the world. It sounded so interesting when it was discussed here, and now it sounds like it might be a reality!
And if sync is going to be cross platform, maybe that means we are getting closer to all versions having all of the same content???!!! At least I hope that’s what it means.
Most do already though.
Hopefully the local “AUSTRIA” is one of Culture Place :-) The Pigs like “Wiener Schnitzel” :-)
I would love to see Austria, and would also love too see Russia, especially Moscow!
I was really talking about ME, MD and some versions having FB or Twitter levels. I guess things like Chrome and Google Plus are sort of separate games, so those wouldn’t apply.
So let us hope for Moscow and Vienna :-)
Is ABLocal just Country Themes? Or can you only play you own country theme? I hope that first…
Hopefully sundry Country Themes for all players. That would be very bad if you only can play your own location Country :-(
It’s not necessary to have all platforms up-to-date for syncing. Your progress for an episode could be saved online and when you update for a platform that didn’t have it earlier, the progress could be synced into it after updating. I’m not sure about this though.
According to rovio’s Wikipedia page,Angry birds will also come on Wii U, 3ds and PSVita
This is exciting news! I really like the idea of the local editions; as a homeschool mom with an 11 year old who loves to play AB (I don’t know where he gets the obsession:) ), I think the cultural aspect will be very nice. We had a good time looking at mooncakes and Chinese New Year information when those levels came out.
As for the sync- this is a fantastic idea. I am planning an Android tablet purchase and currently all of my playing is on my windows netbook. I would like to be able to have all my scores from day one of using my new tablet. By the way, whoever suggested “Bird Brains” (from your article a few months back) was a genius! That is the perfect name.
Waiting for the new app! The idea seems intresting which will help children also to learn something about their culture as well :)
maybe my mom will count it as school then… ;)
Rio is out for iPad …
Good catch! Will start on the post
lol thought I cancelled this post sorry.
The only intended post is here:

it’s out for iphone too.
Search out all the hidden fruit and earn special awards!
What is the special awards ?
Got Global Phenomenon for unlocking Orange Bird.
Multi-Mullionaire was unlocked in 17.5M points.
The “Special Awards” is that trophy room.
PC ver is landing.
Updated for that and even more good news!
I wish they would release all platforms at the same time. Maybe if everything gets sync, they will. I like this concept better than the facebook. We can all learn, not just the kids. :)
Question re: BL’s moment on AB Sync…
When BL says not every level is the same across all platforms, what does that mean, exactly:
That the level numbering doesn’t match? (Rovio. Old simply map the levels properly in that case))
That the levels are the same, but a small difference in block placement or physics, creates a discrepancy in the total possible points or 3 star threshhold (this wouldn’t be so easy to fix). As an example of what I mean, take Poached Eggs level 3 has the same layout on iOS and google+ but a small difference in block placement makes one easier than the other (note: this is just a hypothetical example, I’m not at all saying this is the case)?
Or something else?
Corrections:
Moment = comment
And
Rovio. Old = Rovio could
good to hear that sync is still possible. I already feared that Rovio has forgotten about it.
This Local Edition sounds great. But I hope this will be available for everyone, not only for the locals.
I have doubts about the Sync system. Let me explain it: I have the iPad, Android, and PC versions. Two of three (iPad, Android) are frequently updated, the third one not because I have it on a notebook I will soon discontinue to use. Will Sync work regardless if the version of the three games is not the same? If I have different scores in the three games, which scores will be stored?
Despite this, I think Sync would be a great tool for Angry Birds players.
by Amphoth3ra
I think it could work regardless of version. And it’s not clear if it could mix-and-match scores.
My thought on sync is that all your scores would be stored on a central server and have the following types of behaviors.
1) First sync of a new device, compare all scores on device to the server and update the server scores if a new high exists, and vice versa on the device.
2) 2nd device on the account would have the same behavior as the initial load.
3) When syncing, only scores flagged as new on the server or the handset would be checked / updated to save on bandwidth.
Also, this would apply for the bonuses such as ME, MD, and Rio Fruit.
I would love to see a sync implementation. It would be great to play Angry Birds between my PC and iPhone, without any cross platform issues.
I would support another ab platform too, Angry Birds Mini, witch includes the volcano, pistacio, chrome dimension levels, and every internet levels,
It’s launching in Jakarta?I will definetly come! :D
AB Philippines on PC, I DOWNLOAD!
Slim, have they already started released this Angry Birds game and will rovio add iCloud support in all there apps?
Nope still not available in the market.
Neither. iCloud won’t work for iOS.
Just a little venting here. If Rovio is serious about the Sync, then they need to figure out how to fix Seasons Greedings. In the original release there was the Santa Hat glitch. For those users who were able to take advantage of this glitch, they were able to post some incredibly high scores. This glitch was fixed and those of us who came afterward are stuck playing behind the 8 ball.
The second thing they need to fix is Seasons Greedings on chrome. There are several levels that have an extra bird which also yields higher scores. Some of the 3 star thresholds are not the same. Level 5 is completely different, basically just an ad for Samsung’s phone. Also, I have noticed that the birds do not seem to have the same destructive force on chrome as on other platforms. From what I have seen, the yellow and blue birds do much more destruction while the white bird is quite lame.
I have no idea how they will be able to solve those 2 issues. I know this will not be popular, but it would be nice to see all levels and birds play exactly the same across ALL platforms. And to have all Santa Hat glitch levels reset to 0 and no stars. This would level the playing field for all involved. Yes, we would have to re-play some levels but I think that would be fair to all involved.
I can not imagine the frustration that Slim and BL (among others) are having trying to keep the leaderboard for Seasons Greedings fair for all who play.
I don’t think Chrome will apply for the Sync system.
do you think that the mighty eagle will come out for android
Yes; it has already been released for T-Mobile devices running Android OS.
does it cost money?
Does what cost money?
Can’t wait for Angry Birds Local!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I cant wait for sync.
I could use it. I’m unable to get 3 stars on Smugglers Plane 12-7 on PC. I’m sure it’s just as possible as on iPad, but I just don’t have the patience to do it again.
I think it will take a long time before Angry Birds Local comes out because Angry Birds Space is coming 22nd March.
