When should I try and get sets?

I now at level 50 and most of my classes are between 4-7.

My items seem to be the weak point in me trying to build up mastery points and get through the tougher fights.

That said, I don’t want to waste GC’s and do this the wrong way.

@george-hoenninger — Do you have FB friends who play Epic? Don’t know if you get more rolls on their pig machines than you do if your only friend is McCool. The free rolls for watching ads now seem to be every 12 hrs both in nest and arena.
If you connect to FB, you get 1 LC per day from the calendar. There are also weekly awards.
I generally don’t spend any LC on the pig machine until the day when you get 5x chance, and then spend whatever I’ve gotten for the month. I also have the advanced pig machine (the one with the diamond eyes), but you might not be able to get that yet.
You might read the thread on mastery to see what’s the best place for you to collect mastery. You didn’t mention where you are on the map. Most of us have spent a lot of time farming mastery at various points in the game.

Set Items are only effected by your level (not mastery), so the answer is “when you have reached the max level in the game” which you now have reached (level 50).

However this is only if you already have all the classes in the game. Bird Classes comes before Set Items when you are going to spend GC.

I have around a dozen or so friend at this point…more are certainly welcome.

I have been using all the free pig machine opportunities.

I don’t yet have all the classes and I have only cleared the first two cave levels.

I have been grinding for the past week by playing the Holiday event and SFC and CPC.

Not exactly exciting, but it has been effective.

@george-hoenninger — Did you mean SRC (Star Reef Castle) it’s the most effective in terms of mastery if your birds are strong enough to get through it on autoplay.
I agree that getting all (or most) classes is more important than getting sets. Which classes are you missing?
If you have a dozen FB friends, you should be getting a free roll on one of their pig machines each day.

My timing was perfect and I was able to get to 1000 stars and the advanced pig machine right as the 5x Rainbow riot became available.

So I now have all of the available sets for all of the birds! :-)

Using sets definitely makes a noticeable level of improvement for my birds (mastery level 6-9).

For you, I would look at a strategy like this:

1. If you have any key set pieces (i.e. Valiant banner, Mana set) from any source (esp. free spins), and those pieces are Level 50, then you definitely should upgrade them. You will use them a lot, so it doesn’t hurt to bump them to MAX now. A high level weapon at M9 is better than M12.

2. If you are missing key classes (e.g. Paladin, Sea Dog, Witch), then you should get them before random spins.

3. If you are Level 50, and you have the 1000 stars for the Advanced Pig Machine, then you should make some effort into getting Sets when the 5x comes up. 5x still means you pay 10+ LCs per Set item, mostly junk.

Otherwise, hold your gold.
